Top Catch Fish & Chips in Southampton

Great place, not only finally somewhere offering smaller portions at a reduced price as a lunch deal but also the best chips in Southampton hands down, warm, crispy on the outside and freshly cooked!

We visited the restaurant in April and we liked it. Fish & chips was tasty, crispy. We are not fish & chips experts, but we thought it was great. The location is also good.

New to the area we fancied fish and chips for dinner and having driven past many times and seen good reviews thought we'd give it a try. They have a great app which lets you order online for pick-up shortly after - this worked very well - ordered, walked 5 mins there and it was ready within 5 mins. Regular cod was amply big enough and perfectly cooked, scampi was excellent and chips were perfect (not greasy) and plentiful. Probably the best fish and chip shop I've used in a long while - will definitely be back!

Quality of food and service was always good, but opening times is increasingly unpredictable. I've lost count of the number of wasted journeys made only to find it closed. As I write this review several listings show it open, yet when I called 90 mins ago it was shuttered. Enough is now enough. They have forfeited my custom.

Sadly not! Granville must have slept in. On all web sites and Google maps it says this fish and chip shop is open. I went twice on Monday 12.30pm and then again at 4.35 pm. Shutters up. No notice advising patrons it’s closed. Very disappointed and unprofessional.

Went there and spent £17 on two fish and one chips and a sausage and the fish was like a fish fingers proper rip off will never go back there again. As I always have gone there but never again greed

I havent had fish and chips this good for years. Not at all greasy and so tasty, always cooked to order. Super busy on a friday night but great effecient service. A proper treat for my family.

The best fish and chips I have had for ages. Plenty of options and choice. Good service and the Cod was cooked to order.

Best cod for a long time, piping hot and delicious scampi, cheese and onion fry it lovely and tasty, chips very good. Good service.

When the new shop opened in Shirley Road, Southampton I was delighted that at last excellent fish and chips had finally arrived in Southampton. I had previously driven to Alverstoke, Gosport or to Westbourne, Bournemouth to get decent fish and chips. I have been using this shop about once a week but lately, and today being another problem, the Fish was undercooked, the batter soft and the centre of the fish was cold. Very disappointed. it seems only the owner manages to cook the fish properly. I will look to see if the owner is working before entering again. Sad to write this report.

We had problems with a previous visit. Manager contacted me and resolved the issue. Went back and it was loads better. Thank you. Food is always tasty

The Fish and Chips were fresh and not greasy, the batter was very crisp and the chips with firm. It was packed very well and included a slice of lemon. Negative would be the cost of of tomato sauce.

Phoned up to make an order on sat as were staying at the novo hotel and food isn't really optional very polite service on the phone I ordered a large order thinking it would take a while to prepare but was told roughly 15 mins so I got ther and the food was just about ready 1 guy on his own he was very polite and sufficient the food was excellent fish cooked perfectly and crispy would highly recommend this place to fish and chips lovers

Excellent quality chips and a good portion too. Noted on the wall that the potatoes are locally sourced. Only negative is that the allergens are not clearly labelled and there are no marked vegan options

Nothing can beat a good plate of fish and chips. Top Catch doesn’t serve a good plate of fish and chips, it serves a great plate of fish and chips. It is just along from the Mayflower Theatre and I have gone there a few times over the past year or so for my pre-theatre dinner. Haddock is my favourite fish and Top Catch serves a great haddock, always freshly caught, always cooked in a light golden crispy batter, and always too big for me to finish. The chips are the right size for chips (fish and chip lovers will understand) and golden crisp on the outside. The service is quick and friendly and the seating area is comfortable and bright; it is lovely to sit there enjoying this most wonderful British dish.

Ubicado en una pequeña plaza cerca del Teatro Mayflower, este restaurante promueve su captura sostenible. ¡Tienen una pizarra que enumera dónde fue capturado el bacalao (Islas Feroe) y el eglefino fue capturado con línea y el nombre del barco de pesca! Incluso la granja donde se cultivaron las papas se publica.El bacalao normal es un filete generoso ligeramente rebozado y crujiente. El pescado para llevar se coloca individualmente en un recipiente de cartón y se coloca en una bolsa de papel. No hay utensilios de plástico acordes con la filosofía ecológica. Hay un pequeño comedor en el área para 10 personas con mesas y sillas simples.La única razón para no dar 5 estrellas es que no tenían salsa tártara casera disponible a las 5 pm de un sábado.

This is a follow up review and I am pleased to say that Top Catch still lives up to its name. Friendly staff, great fish and chips. Really worth breaking a journey at Southampton Central for.

Enjoyed some fish and chips takeaway prior to the show at the Mayflower. Tasty and delicious and super staff - working hard and welcoming. Definitely worth a return visit.

You could smell the chips before you got there, the guys were really friendly and food tastes amazing, and you even get to find out where everything comes from...

Ce petit restaurant sans prétention offre d'excellents 'fish & chips'. Décoration minimaliste et bon service. Poisson frais dont la provenance est affichée.

Nice touches, with chalked info board stating where the days fish were line caught, and by which vessel. Also their potatoe supplier was listed, above a pallet of these potatoes. Very tasty, only thing I'd say, is the chip portions are small in my opinion.

The fish and chips are so amazing here! Affordable price and so freshly made. No greasy at all. Also the store owner is very friendly and lovely. Definitely the best place here.

I love fish and chips. I love the smell. I love the taste. I love the Friday night treat. However after indulging I hate the way it makes me feel. Full. Bloated. Sick. Uncomfortable. I then regret eating our British classic, until the next craving. Then so the cycle continues!!!.

Good chip shops seem hard to find in Southampton but this is one of them. The food is cooked to order and have never had any complaints. The staff are always welcoming and helpful.

Always on time with great food :) The curry sauce and gravy are amazing. Fish is always very tasty. Highly recommend this place.

Really enjoyed the fish and chips at Top Catch. The chips are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Fish batter is also top notch. Curry sauce is fantastic, a game changer. Some of the best food in Southampton. Would 100% recommend anyone to eat here.

Visited here today for first time on way to the theatre lovely little cafe we ate in the chips was what we had were proper chip shop chips plenty of them reasonable price as wel the menu looked good and will defiantly go back there and the 2 guys working there were great good customer service

I had a lunch time special which for £3.50 included battered sausage, chips and a drink. This is a great price for freshly cooked food. Timers were set so I knew my food will be cooked to a set time to enable consistency. Portion size was good and chips were lovely. The battered sausage was special with the batter so lift and crispy. Perfection!

I'd gone to this little eatery near Southampton Central train station to pick up Deliveroo orders and was curious as to what it was like so ordered food myself in it one day. Basic décor, nothing fancy, but a nice touch is the board showing where the fish and potatoes have come form (it does change as well so it';s not just for show).

So was in Southampton with my family and saw this place, decided to go try it out. Food was delicious and had a solid flavour to it. Definitely the 'Top Catch' of my choice.

Amazing fish and chip shop, everything is made to order and the chips are superb. The food is always top notch and the blackboard saying where everything is from is a lovely touch. The staff are always friendly and receptive and it is such an easy process. The 5 odd minute wait is more than worth it and I cannot reccommend highly enough.

Possibly the best fish and chips I have ever had, and certainly the best in Southampton. Very friendly staff, pleasant surroundings and great service. I would 100% recommend.

Im back in town after living in canada for a few years and I had been craving fish and chips and these really hit the spot!

Little street side restaurant. Quick serve, tasty basic English fish and chips. One of several quaint eateries and shops found off the main street where larger stores and familiar chain retail operations are seen.

Food is good and reasonably priced. Close to transport hubs. Food always piping hot. If your peckish i recommend this chippy.

We popped in here after being at the Theatre, we just wanted some fish n chips and were pleased to find Top Catch 2 minutes-if that-down the road.

Review a chippy? Yes why not when it is as good as this. Just my place - unpretentious, clean, friendly. Found by chance when I had a 50 minute wait for train. Will make my way there again. I challenge anyone to make better chips!

Visited here on a Friday evening, not very busy so ordered food & sat at a table. Food came, I asked if I could get Mayo to be told that it is 30p per sachet!! After we had eaten, most of it left as it was very dry & overcooked & were sitting with a coffee I asked to use the toilet but they dont have any. I expalinede that I have a condition & needed to go now & could I use the staff toilet, but was still refused. A man came from the back & said we dont have to provide facitlites if we dont want to well I beg to differ as quoted from a government website " takeaways should provide a toilet if they have a 10-seat threshold"

What a lovely trip to top catch we was visiting the mayflower popped in before to find there were tables so we could eat in all food cooked fresh to order and even chips everything is fresh so do not mind to wait. Homemade fish cakes are amazing and mushy peas also homemade you can tell the owner takes a lot of pride in what he does and proud of the food he is sending out! Service with a smile got served by a very polite blonde girl who couldn't do enough for us thank you top catch for our great experience we will be returning most definitely!!!

Alighted on this modern clean cut fish bar on account of it being close to the Mayflower and we wanted a fish and chip supper prior to the performance.We arrived early evening and were the only sit down diners but were not disappointed.My wife chose regular Cod whilst I had a large Haddock together with two small portions of chips which were more than adequate sized portions.

Went here as was near the theatre, there was inside tables , fish was cooked to order, great light batter, nice chips, came on china plate, with cutlery. The tea came in a cup and saucer, with fresh milk in a jug!
