We went as a family for my sister's birthday and had a lovely meal. 5 adults including vegetarians, and the menu is great for making sure everyone has loads of choice - jackfruit being the veggie option to swap in for almost anything. Lamprise and Sizzler Devil dish particularly lovely and different to anything I'd had before. The staff are super friendly and made us feel at home. Authentic Sri Lanka food and great to have such interesting flavours on our doorstep in Macc - try it out, it's great! Very fair pricing too.

The food is DELICIOUS. Amazing and unique flavours, really interesting combinations and ingredients I never tasted before. Great atmosphere and absolutely impeccable service. Their vegan ‘all you can eat’ nights (last Wednesday of the month) are an absolute must.

The amazing smell upon arrival sets you up ready for a wonderful feast. All the food was amazing, delicious and there was plenty of it. The staff were friendly and attentive. I’ve travelled around Sri Lanka and so can honestly say this food is authentic.

KANDY have great range of Sri Lankan food and I love their starter platters and Devil dishes .The starters are great. Very good atmosphere and staffs are friendly and polite. I have already booked our Christmas staff party in two weeks. Thank you 🙏

Our recent visit to kandy Restaurant in Macclesfield was deeply unsettling for several reasons. The wait time was significantly long despite the restaurant being empty, and the food lacked the authentic taste and quality we expected from a Sri Lankan cuisine establishment. The most alarming issue, however, was the conduct of the chef/owner. His behavior escalated from verbal abuse to my wife and physical aggression towards me all infront of 5 years old daughter and 6 months old baby with us leading to us feeling threatened and compelled to report the incident to the police. This concern was further amplified by the absence of functional CCTV cameras, a critical safety feature, raising fears about potential unchecked criminal activities like abuses or attack. Additionally, the refusal to provide a VAT bill upon request raises serious questions about the restaurant's compliance with tax regulations. Given these experiences, I caution potential customers against dining at Kandy Restaurant. Instead, I would recommend Sigiriya Restaurant in Altrincham and Knutsford for those looking for a reliable, safe, and enjoyable Sri Lankan dining experience, marked by exceptional food quality and commendable customer service.

Out with a large group of friends, booked at fairly short notice and were easily accommodated. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. I cant say enough superlatives about the food. Everybody in out party enjoyed their choices from a varied menu. Prices were reasonable although the alcoholic drinks were a tad steep. This is my second visit to this restaurant and I cant wait to go back again.

Really missed Sri Lankan food since moving from London to Wales so we’re pleased when staying in Congleton to find this restaurant in nearby Macclesfield. We began with the mixed starter of mutton rolls, squid, fried lamb in a spicy sauce and fried balls of tuna (cutlet). We then ordered dosa bread, kottu roti, devilled lamb and black pork curry with a portion of mushroom rice. Everything was delicious but could have been a lot spicier for our palates. I enjoyed the lion lager in bottles. All in all an excellent little restaurant with great service.

We were drawn to this restaurant by the many vegan options on the menu and the good reviews. The reality for us was disappointing. Although our waiter was friendly and obliging, the restaurant is itself is tired and very grubby. The food choices sounded appealing but were poorly prepared. We had a sharing platter as a starter, where most of the items were dry and overcooked. For mains, my partner had a dhal, which she described as the saltiest thing she had ever eaten, suffering as a result for the rest of the evening. The Kandy special I had as a main was ok, but nothing special. Apart from ourselves, there was only one other couple in the restaurant, adding to the impression that this place has seen better days.

We were a party of 4 on a Monday night. First visit based on previous recommendations and turned out to be a good choice. We were the only ones in the whole time, which is such a shame as the food and service is good quality. 2 of us had the Khotu which was refreshingly different. All meals were offered as mild, medium and hot. I normally like it just on the hot side of Medium so next time I'd probably go hot as things were relatively mild. This suited my wife who only likes mild spice. All the food was nicely presented, service was friendly, and all at a reasonable price. So, we will be returning for definite

This place is great for vegetarians. It's lovely to be able to try dishes that are different from the usual cuisine you find in most towns! Very friendly and efficient service. Definitely give it a try!

I don't normally do reviews but this place is a hidden gem in Macclesfield and deserves a smashing review. Freshly cooked delicious food, we will definitely be going back for more. Very friendly and helpful staff and really helpful if you have any allergies. Would highly recommend.

I’ve been there with a few of my friends. Restaurant was so elegant. Food was absolutely fantastic and very well presented. We all enjoyed every bit of it. Service was superb. We visited the restaurant 11:08:21. The food was terrible. We waited an awfully long time, which i can appreciate for fresh food but didn't taste fresh. The only thing me and my wife ate was the poppadoms. We ordered Coconut bread, Dhal (red lentils), sizzler...

food was very good, so often restaurants the food is tepid but here was excellent. They seemed quite Covid safe, with table spacing, sanitiser etc. Obviously quite busy, but we didn’t really mind waiting. The food was good, all a bit more interesting than a standard curry house, especially the mixed veggie starters. Staff were friendly. Is certainly go again.

We’ve visited Kandy a few times, and also when it was Portabellos. This is a really great family run restaurant. The food is great, all cooked to a spice you wish and using fresh ingredients. The menu isn’t overly extensive and is very varied with its dishes. They offer vegetarian and vegan options within most of the dishes on their menu. We have tried both meat and veggie/vegan dishes and although we aren’t veggie or vegan ourselves, we find we choose these options when we visit. All dishes are lovely and extremely tasty. They also offer a kids menu which does include mild curry & rice but also has English alternatives if you wish. We haven’t visited with our kids but do plan too. And I am sure that if you wanted a child portion of something that was on the main menu, this wouldn’t be an issue however, I haven’t asked this myself so I am not 100%. Front of house staff are very welcoming and pleasant and are very much open to offering information in regards to the menu if you require. I’d highly recommend this place, even if your new to the cuisine and if you’ve visited before, I’m sure you’ll return. It really is a great place! In regards to Covid-19, front of house staff do wear masks & gloves, they offer hand sanitizer at the door and tables are adequately spaced. I would advise pre-booking a table also.

Really impressed. We are a family group of 4 including 2 vegans and the owners made it clear that was no problem at all. We all had lots of choice and everything we ordered was lovely. Yesterday evening three of us enjoyed a tasty meal at this family run restaurant. Following a pleasant welcome we all enjoyed a shared vegetarian starter which was full of interesting, subtle flavours. Three different main courses followed, chosen from a varied menu. Each dish ‘spiced’ to the choice of the individual. Accompanied by red wine and Sri Lankan beer we had an enjoyable evening. Well worth a visit.

Me and my partner returned to live in Macclesfield, after spending a year away with work, to find this delightful restaurant. The food is exceptional and authentic, the service is first class and very friendly. Upon our first midweek visit we were advised about the monthly Wednesday vegan buffet. We took the first opportunity to visit this buffet and were so happy to be able to try a whole range of dishes without worrying about dietary restrictions.If i was to make any critiques, the drinks options are sparse but acceptable, and the atmosphere could be livened up.

We have been to Kandy a few times and always had good food and service. The staff have always been friendly and helpful with our choice of food. I was concerned after reading an earlier review that tips were not shared. We were assured that any tips are shared amongst all of the staff.

What an amazing place! After eating here ages ago we decided to book this venue for our wedding breakfast as we have lots of vegan and vegetarians in the family. Marsha could not have done enough for us. She was in touch with us constantly leading up the wedding day. The menu was exciting and everyone commented on how different the food was! We visited Kandy for the first time not having tried Sri Lankan food before and we weren't disappointed! On arrival we were greeted by the young cheerful waiter and taken to our seat. After being handed the menu's it was explained that each dish could be cooked to our chosen spice level which we thought was excellent and not something that we had been offered before. The food when it arrived, after not to long, was excellent. Succulent, flavorsome and well presented.The wine and beer were good and there was plenty of choice on the drinks menu too, all very reasonably priced.We throughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely go back.

Since moving to the area and reading the reviews we finally went to eat there last night and we weren't disappointed. Friendly staff, lovely authentic food and a great bottle of house red, all at reasonable prices. You even get to choose your own level of spices!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something different to try. We look forward to coming back soon. Thanks again.

Kandy is an affordable family restaurant which provides really good food for a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, music is at a good level for conversation, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is just great - tasty, not heavy on oil or salt, and almost as good to look at as to eat. We've been several times, mostly to the vegan buffet. I have not a single bad word to say about the place. It's just a lovely place with lovely food and lovely people.

Considering the quantity of rave reviews for Kandy, we were looking forward to our meal last Saturday. The staff are friendly and helpful, but everything else was such a disappointment - the waiting time, particularly for our main courses. was unacceptable, there were items missing which were not accounted for or explained and the food was OK at best, nothing fantastic. I was particularly entertained by watching a meal beting delivered to a table, and then removed 2 minutes later and given to someone else - after they had started eating it !There was also an additional item on the bill, which was removed when queried, but I wonder how many people this happens to ....?Definitely back to the Gurka for us, for service, cost and better food.

We found this place by sheer luck staying over in Macclesfield before an early flight. The food from start to finish was absolutely delicious and nothing like we'd tried before, totally different and authentic dishes with unique flavours. Loads of choice for vegans which was great for us, we were spoilt for choice. The best jackfruit I've ever tasted and the coconut breads were so good. I'd go as far as to say this is one of the best meals I've had in a restaurant ever.

Food was excellent. waitress worked her socks off all night as only 2 waiting on. Disappointed to learn that the staff did not receive tips paid in cash or on card. ( only paid 8.51 per hour as it is)Finding this out somehow made the food less enjoyable

I visited solo on business, having never been into a sri Lankan restaurant before. The waitress was full of recommendations and eventually settled on the lamb kothu.

We looked on TripAdvisor for somewhere to eat and found Kandy. Lots of good reviews so gave it a try. We were not disappointed. The menue was explained and we had a delightful meal. Staff were brilliant.

Came to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The food is really tasty and light. The lady serving explained each dish and each one that we had was delicious without exception. Sri Lankan dark beer is also fantastic.

Amazing food!! Attentive staff!!! Nothing is too much trouble, the waitresses are lovely and gave us their recommendations tailored for our tastes. The Devil dish was amazing and our friends had various different dishes, all incredibly tasty too. Well done Kandy, you are a very welcome addition to the town. We will be returning very soon.

Visited with a friend last week. Service was excellent. The menu was very reasonably priced and very tasty. We had vegetarian platter to share and Ceylon tuna curry which was very tasty. A visit is thoroughly recommended!

I can't recommend this place enough, everything and I mean everything was fantastic. We visited this place as a family of four on June the 1st. Unfortunately I cannot remember exactly what we had but the pictures show everything. As usual we all swapped and tasted each others dishes and I have no complaints about anything at all. The staff were polite and very helpful and even provided a sample of a dish which we hadn't ordered just so we could try Jack Fruit. If you are hungry go. We drove 42 miles to get there and I can't wait to go back, it really is that good

We visited for an early, pre-theatre meal, not knowing what to expect. We found the staff very attentive, informative and helpful. The meals we chose were absolutely delicious, with a distinctly 'different' edge - the Srilankan take on spices of course. We'd definitely visit again.

Ate here just over a week ago. Due to medical reasons my diet doesn't have certain things. Phoned up before going and Kandy were brilliant. They new the menu in detail and how each meal was prepared and what it contained. Also, because things are prepared fresh, adjustments could be made. The food for the group of us was enjoyed by all. Service was excellent with friendly staff. We ended up spending a couple of hours in there enjoying ourselves in a relaxed atmosphere. We're going again.

Our friends, who live in Macclesfield, had previously eaten here and raved so much about it we came across to try it ourselves. It did not disappoint. What I liked most was the fact you are asked what spice level you want your food at. Everything we had was superb. The duck strips starter was definitely the winner for everyone. Service was excellent and the atmosphere great. Absolutely worth a visit and we’ll certainly be back.

Had our first Sri Lankan meal at Kandy last night, and really loved it. The staff were absolutely lovely, and the food was a revelation. We shared a couple of streetfood-style starters, which came with a spicy dipping sauce and a little salad garnish (which I could have eaten a big plate of on its own!), then I had a vegan dosa, which is totally unlike its Indian equivalent, being 2 small, thick pancakes and some flavoursome, potato, lentil and coconut accompaniments. We didn't think we had room for dessert, but opted to share the vegan cheesecake, which was amazing - melt-in-the-mouth coconut layer on a crunchy, nutty base with a fruit compote on top. Delicious meal at a good price, we'll definitely go back.

Our son took us back to this restaurant as we had not been since it moved location. The venue was much nicer than the last one. We ordered 2 starters to share, a fish dish and the lobster balls both were very nice. For mains we ordered the sea bass with the nazigoreng rice, a lamb dish and a dish consisting of lots of different things, everything was great. We had to wait quite a while for the main courses as there were two large parties in but they kept on coming over to apologise for the delay. Glad we went back.

We tried Kandy after looking for local gluten free restaurants and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was lively and food was very tasty, even my daughter tried some new flavours and loved it. The majority of the menu is gf and or vegan which was great for us. Highly recommend a visit and we will definitely be back.

Came here on a Friday night with friends. We shared the meat and veggie platters to start and I had the lamb dosas for main. We were all seriously impressed with the food, it was really tasty and the dips/sauces had superb flavours - I will definitely return to try lots more of the menu!!

Yummy food and all quite different to the usual fayre. Everything was very tasty and hot though I've no idea what I ate! The staff are wonderful and attentive without being pushy. Highly recommended but go prepared to share.

We visited here after a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed. The team were able to cope with my problem with anything spicy yet still 'spice up' my husband's food. I haven't tasted pork like I did for the starter! Thank you Kandy - we shall be back!

Lovely welcoming reception as you enter the restaurant. Well explained menu. Unique combination of flavours with a Indian Thai mix. Very impressed with the food but a few observations, tables with glasses on which hadn’t been cleaned, as you walk from the toilets downstairs you can see boxes, full black bin bags, dirty tea towels etc it doesn’t look good at all..maybe a door would be useful or a curtain as it is too visible. The waitress was lovely and was working alone and I noticed they are after staff maybe that’s why the tables weren’t cleared?

Lovely staff and place overall, only table in on the night and really wanted to love it. The food was pretty average unfortunately, especially the noodle dish we had which had noodles so overdone that they nearly formed a paste. Loved the huge amount of vegan and veggie options and the "devil" dish was good though.

Food was amazing, staff were really attentive and very reasonably priced. Really looking forward to going back again.

As a vegan It's refreshing to have so much choice! The dishes are traditional and cooked with love and passion. The poppadom chutneys are really good and different to the usual. I recommend the cashew nut and pea curry and the coconut bread. Plus the desserts are reallllyyy good - (Berry cheesecake and coconut pancakes are a winner).

Our evening meal with 9 people was very pleasant. The staff were friendly and approachable. The food was delicious and everyone wanted to go again to try other meals on the menu.

My boyfriend and me visited Kandy tonight after a recommendation from a family member & I have to say it did not disappoint! Food was totally delicious and extremely reasonably priced, staff were very nice and atmosphere was delightful! The only thing that let the restaurant down was the service as it was a little slow! This place is very unusual in the food that it serves. Don't expect your typical Indian/Bangladeshi curry here. Check out the menu to see the Sri Lankan dishes. I had lobster ball stir fry and popodoms to start. For mains I had the chick biryani and coconut sambol. The chicken in the biryani was extra-tender and the spicy coconut sauce served with it was beautiful. The only complaint I had was that the lobster balls were slightly rubbery in texture. I would not have them again but everything on the menu looked fabulous.The lady who served me was very friendly and exlained the food very well. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

This place is great. The food is superb and the service is really good too, even though we had a party of 14 everything was perfect. This is proper, authentic Sri Lankan food served in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Anyone who likes Asian-style cooking should try this place.

Date of visit 5 December 2018. We had booked a table for 20:30 hrs and was a little concerned when we entered as there were only two other people in for the whole of the evening. Not usually a good sign in any restaurant but we need not of been worried. The lady who served us was very helpful in explaining the dishes. As my wife does not like highly spiced dishes she explained that any dish could be spiced to taste. Excellent. We started off with poppadoms and a chutney tray followed by a chick pea dish for myself which I request to be spicy and a less intense dish of duck spring rolls for my wife. Excellent start to our meal. My main course Kandy Seafood Special was outstanding see photo. Trip Advisor top tip for this dish don't wear a white shirt as its messy eating. My wife had the sea bass fillet which she described as very nice but the fish was ever so slightly over cooked. A very minor issue that did not detract from the overall dish. All this washed down with a bottle of Shiraz. Excellent value £64.60 for two. Can I recommend Kandy certainly. Would I dine here again, a big fat yes.

Was looking forward to trying the vegetarian buffet after reading the various reviews. Having been lucky enough to spend time in Sri Lanka, eating amazing food and taking a cookery course. Kandy vegetarian buffet was nothing like Sri Lankan food. We where sat near the kitchen and no smell of spices and wonderful curry leaves being tempered eminated from that kitchen.The chutneys with the appalam where watered down. Not a clue what the falafel type things where but they where hard and virtually impossible to chew.The Dahl was tasteless and watery, the Jack fruit curry had been spiced with black pepper powder which gives a bitter earthy heat instead of fresh black pepper that is used as heat in a lot of wonderful Sri lankan dishes, where were the curry leaves? an amazing aroma and an absolute staple in Sri lankan cooking and a very distinct flavour. Where were the sambols? The vegetabla kottu roti was ok The beetroot and bean curry was passable as was the cashew nut and pea curry. All in all a very limited dissapointing buffet and at that price point people deserve better, and there is better out there.

Last Friday I went to Kandy restuarant with my friends. That was amazing night for us. Absolutely superb foods, amazing services without pretence. 100% our favourite place to eat There's no any hesitation to recommend this restaurant for any kind of people with various tast.

lovely eastern ( mild " curries) take on vegan food. Jackfruit was a revelation and the sweets were delicious as was all the mains.
