Ordered a good selection of dishes - and it was quite expensive at over £80. But looking forward to giving it a try. Unfortunately was totally disappointed. Firstly it was nearly cold - can’t have been kept warm in insulated bags at all. Then most the dishes were overly greasy. All the tempura is meant to be really light - this wasn’t. Heavy and greasy unfortunately. My boys usually LOVE tempura prawns and wouldn’t eat these. The bravas sauce was not pleasant at all. A really odd taste. The same taste was prevalent in the pork cheeks - which were also not particularly nice. The croquettas were fairly good on the flip side. Overall - completely underwhelmed and with the choice of restaurants out there we won’t be going back. Sorry - but make more effort in your food!

Greasy, congealed, poor quality - it all went into the bin. The ribs were just fat, no meat at all. Predictably once I sent them an email to advise that we were disappointed with the food, I got an aggressive email immediately stating I must be wrong as no one else had complained - so clearly fault was mine!

We frequently visit Spain and really enjoy tapas. Well, these two restaurants serve the best tapas outside Spain. We visited 4th November, just prior to the England lockdown. I must say, safety was paramount in the the restaurant. The food is mostly imported and really authentic. The chefs are so skilled and put a great twist on each dish. And the wine list....well that’s just as good. Friendly staff, good food and superb wine. Well you just have to give it a visit.

Food was faultless. Loved the tapas. But did feel the venue lacked social distancing measures due to the confined space.

We have been here a few times and always enjoyed the food , however after lockdown we thought we would book for a lunch . The restaurant was adhering to social distancing so there was not too many in as it is a relatively small place . We opted for a selection of tapas dishes and a bottle of wine to wash it down . Although the food was decent ,the service took ages, the potato bravas was served first and the last dish (which was the charcuterie) was served about 45 mins later ! The bill was £85 for 2 of us for lunch which was a bit steep for a lunch . Nice food but let down a bit by the service.

Visited as part of the Eat Out to Help Out campaign on a Wednesday evening.Very impressed by the friendliness of the 2 waiters, such a lovely little setting as well. The extensive wine list didnt disappoint and we went for a white rioja which was a perfect accompaniment. We ordered the patatas bravas, pork cheek, chorizo, padron peppers, croquettes and the tempura hake. Everything seemed really Spanish, portions were bigger than some of the other comments on here would indicate. The batter on the hake was slightly thicker than I'd expect for tempura, croquettes were my favourite. We ended on a very large portion of churros with chocolate sauce, just maybe needed a scoop of ice cream. Was more expensive than most other tapas restaurants in Newcastle but was well worth it!

My partner and I were looking forward to a date evening for the first time since lockdown and maybe this resulted in high expectations. The food was quite a disappointment. The pil pil prawns (£9.50), which I know from Spanish holidays should taste deliciously flavourful and garlicky only tasted.... vaguely fishy. They were also totally overpriced with 7 of them on a few bits of bread. The “aioli” on the patatas bravas, almost definitely came from a squeezy bottle. The atmosphere of this place was wonderful, casual and romantic, and the service was attentive and smooth. But we won’t be coming back because of the totally overpriced, bland and unfortunately disappointing food. **** atmosphere and service, ** food

We booked this restaurant not really knowing what to expect and we were really pleased with the experience. This was our first real weekend away as a couple as Covid had got in the way, so it was very special for us. A mix up with our booking meant we had to wait for a table, but that wasn't a problem as we ordered wine and olives whilst we waited. Covid meant strict distancing and cleaning, which was followed. The meal was delicious, staff very friendly and courteous. We would definitely go again whenever we visit Newcastle.

Kind staff, energetic atmosphere, great wine list and hih quality ingredients and authentic Spanish flavours. I couldn´t ask for more. Thank you for a lovely night

My friend and I decided to give this restaurant a 'go' on one of regular evenings out. From start to finish it was disappointing. We start with their booking system: utter chaos, and on arrival they claimed to have no booking for me. Well I definitely booked. Eventually they found a table, we were left to stew! No serve, no menus, no wrest fro a drink etc. We, eventually, had to wander over to the bar to order drinks and get menus. We ordered, only to be told (a it late by that point) that dishes would arrive when the KITCHEN (not us note, the kitchen) were ready. Inevitably the main course arrived To make matters worse the small table meant that everything was crowded in. As for the food, well it was good although I thought there age of minute nouvelle cuisine dishes were long gone. Overall? We'll never go there again, neither would I recommend any friends to go: quite the opposite and it's a place to be avoided.

We visited the Dean Street restaurant. The food was ok, but we waited over 30 mins to order even drinks, and then longer still for food, only for one of the mains to be apparently ‘forgotten’ with the chefs leaving the restaurant before we had to ask if the food was coming. To top off the experience, they had the cheek to add on a 10% service charge to our full price bill with not so much as an apology. I had looked forward for a long time to eating here but I won’t be returning.

The Dean St restaurant is a total disappointment from start to finish. Whilst waiting for friends to arrive I sat at the bar for 10 minutes without anyone really even acknowledging my existence. Finally I was forced to go to the till to get a drink. I was be-grudgingly recommended a glass of Rioja at the rather expensive price of £6 per glass (and there is no way that it was a large glass). We were seated and had to wait a further 15 minutes before anyone took the drinks order. Following the grumpy bar mans advise I ordered a bottle of the "amazing" Rioja whilst my fiends were given a limited choice of other wines to order. Another 15 minutes and everyone has their drinks except myself who is informed that "they are still looking for that elusive bottle of wine" that they recommended. Finally I was forced to order wine by the glass as no other option appeared to be available. We all ordered various tapas dishes off the menu only to find 10 minutes later that 3 of them were no longer available (Saturday night 8.45pm????). The garlic prawns were totally un seasoned and lacked any flavour of garlic or lemon, the blackpudding salad thing my friend had would not fill up a pigeon and the chorizo tapas was a plate of chorizo cut into chunks. My friends had 3 over priced deserts that came to about £30 that were barely on par with something you could buy in the freezer section of Heron foods. In conclusion I had 3 or 4 prawns in olive oil, one piece of chorizo, one mouthful of a bit of cake and some glasses of wine I didn't want for the handsome sum of £60. This place is a complete joke.

Booked for 8 of us on a Friday night. Table was downstairs in a 'nook' down some stairs which made it feel nice and private. Our waiter was really nice and patient with us as we took ages to decide and was really knowledgeable as we had 1 vegan, 1 nut allergy & 1 pregnant. We ordered 2 each and 2x mixed meats/cheese platters and finished them all. The chef was really accommodating and separated out the nuts from dishes so we could add it and the nut allergy could eat them. The pistachio cake was a good finish. We had paid a £80 deposit beforehand and this was taken off the bill. Without drinks food was about £28 each which was reasonable. Would return again.

I had wanted to try this place for a long time because I’d heard really good things but I found it very disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, the food was of good quality but I found it very pretentious. The restaurant was freezing, the dishes were pricey and the waiters were not very attentive. For example, we ordered the octopus which was £13 - expensive for a tapas dish, if you ask me - and when it came, it certainly wasn’t value for money. If you’re wanting great tapas, I’d recommend El Torero because it is far more reasonably priced, the staff are very attentive and the restaurant has a brilliant atmosphere. Our waiter was attentive and helpful with his knowledge of the menu and unlike the person who does not like to leave a tip we were not only quite happy to pay the service charge but left a further tip. On arrival at Kaltur, we acknowledged the waiter as we joined our friends but did not expect to have to ask various waiters 3 times to be served for drinks, especially that it was a hot evening and we were gasping for a drink. Eventually the drinks came and food orders taken; however, one friend was served one dish and nothing else arrived so she ate the entire dish on her own and still waited before any other dishes came out, defeating the idea of going out for a meal together.

Visited last weekend, which is our 3rd time at Kaltur. Great food, great wine, competent staff and all very reasonably priced. Cannot wait to go back.

I was looking forward to enjoy a nice evening of Spanish food and drink on my Birthday, which was ruined by incompetent staff not properly creating the reservation. I had given them my Name and mobile number, so thought no more of it. Only until tonight did I realise they have two restaurants in Newcastle the first one said no second one said no but we can 'squeeze you in', aboherent service and no sorry, I DO NOT WANT to be squeezed in like a second class diner. If this is how they manage the reservations, one can only assume the mess they would make by actually taking food orders. Avoid.

My wife and I had heard good things about this place for some time so, in the middle of last week, we decided to try it for a fairly early evening meal. The result was slightly difficult to review as it contained some really good stuff yet some parts that were less than impressive.

Recommended by a friend to try this place and did not disappoint. A small and cosy venu with a lovely atmosphere. We booked last minute and we're sat at the bar. We weren't sure what this would be like but it actually added to the experience sitting in view of the open kitchen.

In for lunch on a Saturday and we were the only people there. Come on Geordies you are missing out. Food was excellent and service was fast (as you might expect with no one else there). The whitebait and the baby calamari were superb, everything else was good and the patatas bravas were terrific. Would highly recommend the place.

Rugby Weekend , 4 friends. We wanted to sit out drink a glass of nice wine and eat a few side dishes and found it very hard to find somewhere that was willing to accommodate us. We found Kaltur accidentally but what a find. Warning:Tapas comes "as its cooked" and this is a one person kitchen. We had a couple of bottles of Tempranillo Gallinita Ciega and 8 Tapas which was plenty of food for us. The Iberico Ham and Wild Boar plates were the most interesting but all was very tasty and we spent a couple of hours in the place. Very good service from the waiter who gave us plenty of advice on what was interesting to order. Service charge is added automatically to the bill and it came out at £35 per head which is good value but probably a little expensive by UK standards.

This morning, after searching somewhere new for breakfast in Newcastle, I found Kaltur. Staff were very attentive, and the ambience was relaxed. The decor is light and modern. Some works are ongoing downstairs, presumably to extend the seating area. This in no way interferes with the seated area at ground level.

we went as a group of 5 to the Dean St branch last night and had a great time...food and wine were uniformly to a high standard with the tapas a couple of notches above the competition. a larger group gave the opportunity to give the menu a thorough seeing to and highlights were the croquettes, chorizo in cider, their take on the staple patatas bravas and a magnificent brioche with creme anglais.

A very good experience overall, most of the dishes were very tasty and well executed, high quality ingredients used. Service good and friendly waiter, some of the seasoning was off and the mashed potato was horrible, didn't like the automatically added service charge. Would visit again and beats all the chains round the corner. Small dishes but good value overall.

A wonderful pm at the new Dean Street Kaltur on Saturday 18th May. Quite a small restaurant, the downstairs room not yet open, but busy with a friendly and buzzy atmosphere. Four of us drinking and dining. Sherry, Cava, the day’s special white wine and a Rioja Baja all delicious. We had loads of tapas dishes, all fantastic with special mention of the tempura cod, the suckling pig, the courgette cannelloni and the seared tuna. Wonderful flavours, I just wish that more restaurants employed such skilled chefs. Congratulations to you all, I can’t wait to return.

Really charming little restaurant, we are lucky to have it in Newcastle. It is more expensive than usual however the quality and charm is unlike no other. We had a lovely window seat which was great to people watch on high bridge, we were there at 7:30 on a Saturday night (booking is a must) and we had a bottle of cava, patatas bravas, ciabatta with tomato and cheese, a slow roasted pork dish and chorizo which was the best ever! All very yummy and the service was fantastic.

We visited Kaltur on a Thursday evening without booking. The restaurant is very small but we managed to get a spot in front of the window, which was fine albeit a bit challenging when sharing tapas!

Kaltur provides a creative range of tapas dishes which are lovely to look at (I have to admit it was their Instagram feed that made us go there) and even lovelier to eat. We enjoyed a charcuterie board of Iberico meats, chorizo braised in cider paired with creamy puréed parsnips, and a caramelised apple and goat’s cheese mille-feuille which was a revelation—it had a light honeyed sweetness that balanced the cheese perfectly and that made me want to lick the bowl clean. The two man team cooking and serving the food were passionate and rightly proud of their heritage and the food and wine they were providing. When I was torn between two desserts and asked our server which he would recommend, he looked genuinely torn too. He then said he had a lifelong love of the dessert from the specials board, torrijas—brioche soaked in milk infused with citrus and cinnamon and served with cinnamon ice cream and an impossibly thin chocolate biscuit. It was every bit as good as it sounds. They’re opening a larger space in Dean Street soon and I’d come back to Newcastle just to have this experience again.

As a resident of Newcastle and someone who I keen to try new places I was really looking forward to my meal as many people had recommended this restaurant. Unfortunately it did not live up to the expectation. For a restaurant in the ‘expensive’ range it certainly did not live up to this billing. The food was largely bland and comparable to the Tapas chain in Newcastle called Tapas Revolution which is a much cheaper option for a very similar standard of food. Such a shame and unfortunately won’t be returning as there are much better options in Newcastle for this price range

Having had an early lunch we weren't overly hungry and just could not decide on what to eat. We wandered round for a couple of hours, eventually ordering at one place, but when we were told that one of the dishes wasn't available, decided to move on. After finding a magazine review on-line we found ourselves back at Kaltur, somewhere we had liked the look of a couple of hours earlier, but had decided against as it had some tins off sardines on one of the shelves in the window. It turns out Kaltur is an importer of Spanish goods. So glad we overcame our problem with the tins of sardines. Sat at two stools overlooking the chefs and asked them to cook whatever they thought we should have. What a great evening. Fantastic wine, knowledgeable, interested staff and delicious food. Will definitely return.

Food was tasteless, bland with no seasoning. One of our dishes didnt arrive but we werent bothered as the food we had already ate was tasteless. We did complain. We were drinking our wine when the waitress asked if we would move off our table so someone else could sit at it. We had only been in for 50 minutes. what a cheek. We told her no. They asked us to come back another time - no chance

Stopped here for pre theatre tapas. They were fully booked when we went in but because we had to be away before the performance started they managed to give us a pre booked table as long as we left in time for them to set up in time again. The food and wine were brilliant. The atmosphere has a great buzz and the staff were exceptional. We will definitely be back!

Having read a review saying they hadn’t “stopped thinking about the slow cooked cod” - I can only agree but for other reasons! The portion size for the price charged is completely outrageous and it wasn’t the best I’d tasted either. The bread we were served with our meal was so dry it was inedible and having explained this to the waiter he did nothing about it. The whole meal was expensive considering what you receive in portion size. Wouldn’t want to return.

One of my favourite places to eat; the food is great and the atmosphere is fantastic and very relaxed. However- 40 minutes trying to get a menu and order a dessert or even a couple more drinks is a little too relaxed. Spoiled the evening because we had to leave for taxi before we’d had chance to finish our meal. Not a cheap night out so the service needs to be better, in my opinion.

The food was stunning. I have not stopped thinking about the slow cooked cod and the prawn ravioli with manchego. I would have come back the next day and eaten it again if I could. We also had an Oaked white wine I had not tried before and it was excellent. I love this place and think it is one of the best restaurants in Newcastle.
