Lovely environment and excellent food, this made for a very agreeable evening. Would recommend if visiting Newcastle. Made for a great location to catch up for an evening with an old friend. Had the pollock which was particularly good and would not hesitate in returning and having the same again in the future.

A nice alternative twist on dishes. Very strong and beautiful flavors combined in excellent dishes, often vegetarian, but there is also a choice of fish, chicken or meat. A must do good restaurant if you are around here.

We had a family meal at cook house yesterday and the service was lovely and friendly, what food we had was nice. But the price was ridiculous for the serving size. An £12 chicken salad was a plate of lettuce with about four shreds of chicken (not even half a breast) and a drizzle of dressing. The small plates are hugely overpriced for the size. £12 for a slice of focaccia and a few mushrooms, £9 for a small slice of bitter cheesecake. While staff were lovely and there’s a nice atmosphere it’s definitely more about being a bit pretentious than value for money!

I have never been to a restaurant where the staff seemed more unhappy and unwelcoming. I was not greeted with a smile once and after waiting 35mins for a drinks order to be taken I was asked and I quite “what do you want”. Deadpan and monotone with not a pleasant expression to be found. The food was not too bad. The dishes I fear lots of them were lacking general quality checks and balance of flavours aswell as general presentation and coherence with one another. The atmosphere was nice, a nice decor and a lovely building and location. And to top it all off a big sigh upon us leaving the restaurant. We were not the last table to leave, nor the largest group. I have been in the service industry for over 5 years and no matter how hard of a shift I have had you never let it show to the customer, not atleast without batting it off and rolling a joke in there. The drinks were pretty good as a highlight ! Thanks anyways guys :)

Came here for lunch on a Sunday with family (the roast chicken was sold out by 1:30 when we arrived). Everything was delicious, especially the pork belly main and the both the hispi cabbage and potato sides. The mains are a decent size but probably need a side to make them filling! Staff were lovely. Very interesting selection of drinks including lots of good cocktails and soft drink options.

We were charged 12.5% of the service charge when the service we were offered was way below expectation. I was utterly disappointed with the service and attitude, if I knew that was happening, I would have taken off on Saturday night. Unfortunately the bill was all paid by my fiancé who was actually quite drunk without reading too much into it. There were few reasons why we were disappointed with the service and I'm actually gutted that we had to pay so much service charge for it. First of all, a full glass of my sparkling wine was spilled everywhere when one of the waiters was collecting all the plates and cutlery in. He dropped the cutlery, broke my wine glass and got the wine all over my friend and my outfit. No apology was given and the napkins that we've used to clean it up for him weren't replaced either. Soon after that, we had to order more wine ourselves and request for an extra glass to replace my broken one. Nothing was offered by him to replace the full wine that he spilled everywhere. Secondly, when we asked them to help us take some group photos, they rolled their eyes at us before taking them and everyone saw it. I couldn't help but wonder if this is the typical service standard that you offer on a daily basis. We have actually feedback these to the owner, however we only received tons of excuses and no apology. Will not come back even the food was amazing. Your customer deserves better.

The potential is there but the execution is poor. This place is overpriced and overhyped and I simply don't understand all the great reviews at all. Everything was bland with the exception of the hispi cabbage side - although at 7 quid for a bit of cabbage, it is wildly priced. Really wanted to enjoy it but didn't. Everything was a bit cold and the obsession with bland whipped cheese (?) wasn't good. Price wise, it's playing in the premier league but the food doesn't match up.

First time eating at this restaurant, unfortunately it will probably be my last, food combinations were interesting but completely over priced for the ingredients used. I had the pork belly strips with curried beans and some new potatoes while my partner had a small mackerel with some assorted pickles, we also ordered half a bottle of house wine. The bill came to an eye watering £84 with an automatically added service charge of 15%. Conclusion would be that the food was okay but nothing special and it was completely overpriced for what it was and for the venue itself, also automatically adding a service charge to the bill is very pretentious and does tend to leave a bad taste in the mouth as all gratuities should be discretionary and not obligatory, Management take note! 3/10

We enjoyed an early dinner after a friendly welcome to the restaurant. The menu and drinks list had an excellent selection to choose from. All the food was different, considered and very tempting. As the puddings seemed so good we missed the started and went straight into the mains. We had the Hake and the lamb with a couple of sides and they were both so good. For pudding we had the trifle and the carrot cake….again very memorable puddings. There was no rush and our server was attentive all the time we were there. First Class, we will do it again soon!

All the food was really good, as good as some of the mains were they were poor value as it was small portions. Unfortunately, got their homemade "cola" and couldn't even drink it, all of us at the table tried it and no one would drink it. Also, the wait time we felt like was a bit too long. If you are after big portions and good value, this is not for you. If you want somewhere nice, have plenty of time and are not a big eater I would recommend.

The meal started off strong with reasonably priced drink options, sensational sourdough and kimchi. Unfortunately ended disappointed with main courses. The bavette was the most expensive yet the most bland main meal I’ve had for a while and subsequently I’ve now seen via social media that it was not served with everything as listed on the menu (see photos). The meat was also chewy which is disappointing for a Michelin guide restaurant. I’d also have to agree with other reviews - adding a service charge automatically never leaves the customer feeling happy! Maybe it was a one off bad plate but we sadly won’t be returning as the quality and cost do not match up.

Server went to check and brought our kipper pate starter with our 2 mains !!! Ok , no worries will just go with it. Started to eat mains and they were cold. Very cold. And yes it may be an awarding winning restaurant but portion sizes were for kids at best. Shocked at how poor the food was. Pretentious and over priced. Yes it’s in the Ouseburn the new place to be, but daylight robbery springs to mind. Chefs who think there unbelievable, unfortunately you need to self reflect on your poor food. Crackling ! I have been to this lovely restaurant twice and so my photos were from both of the visits. First time I came was back in 2021 and the second time was last Saturday. Both times we came for dinner so can't comment on their daytime menu. I was visiting my friend in Newcastle for the weekend and she recommended this place for us to try together as she had already been multiple times and had thought the food and overall experience was great. I know they were on the Michelin guide a few years in a roll so I was really looking forward to trying it out. My first time there was absolutely fantastic, great experience all the way from greeting at the reception to sitting down, ordering and paying. Staff members were very friendly and nice, took the time to explain the menu to us. On the first visit, we had the shrimp salad as a starter and then for mains we ordered the lamb chop with cous cous and mussels with a side of potatoes. The salad was refreshing and a great way to stimulate our appetites. The lamb was absolutely fantastic, so savoury and not gamey at all. Second visit we had the brown shrimp salad with blood orange which was once again super refreshing and stimulating. Mains we went with roast pork shoulder and braised is cheeks. The pork shoulder was absolutely delightful, crunchy crackling and tender meat. The apple sauce and potatoes were such a great complement to the meat and really pleasant. The ox cheeks were also soft and tender, particularly enjoyed the beetroot on the side with their dill pesto, so savoury. We enjoyed both but we agreed the pork was the highlight. For dessert we ordered the earl grey poached pear with chocolate and walnut ganache which was lovely. Such an interesting combination of flavours yet they somehow worked. That tea flavour coming through in your month balancing with the rich dark chocolate ganache made it so moreish and easy to eat. Absolutely not too sweet and it's just a light dessert to nicely wrap up our dinner. On both times we thoroughly enjoyed our visits there and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good restaurants in Newcastle. They change menus regularly so you can always get excited for what they will cook on the day. I am already looking forward to coming back one day!

We tried booking online but it said unavailable, but we phoned to see if there was any wriggle room and the staff were so helpful and got us in early. We were amazed at the quality of the dishes, the creativity of the food and the taste was faultless. Plenty of vegetarian options, as well as hearty meat dishes. The mushroom ragu was off the scale! Not the cheapest of meals, but when the quality and taste is so high it was well worth it. The staff and restaurant location are also worth a big shout out. Great service, and the location, in the heart of fascinating part of the former old industrial part of the city by the river adds to the experience. So many good, unspoilt, old traditional pubs near by - The Ship and The Cumberland Arms.

I visited at the weekend and ordered oyster mushrooms on toast with smoked garlic - it tasted amazing butttt the portion size was tiny. I understand it’s classed as a ‘small plate’ but for nearly a tenner I expected to get at least a full slice of sourdough bread. I couldn’t help feel a bit ripped off and everything else I was with said the same. I will visit again but rather than visit regularly, it’ll be a special occasion type of place where you don’t mind spending a Bob or two.

the food here is absolutely gorgeous - i’ve been following Cookhouse Ana for a really long time on instagram and know they change their menu regularly, but the one I happened to try was amazing. I would definitely love to go back soon, the mains, the sides, the cocktails, everything was fantastic; the atmosphere was also friendly, quiet, and relaxing, perfect for a relaxed dinner with a friend or a partner

We had excellent pickles and bread and a full roast chicken to share between three of us for Sunday lunch. It was absolute perfection, hard to imagine anything better. Wines delicious, service warm and efficient, fabulous value for money – brilliant.

Cracking brekkie! Been wanting to go for ages and had high expectations, it didn’t disappoint. Really tasty and interesting menu with a brilliant bacon sarnie for the less adventurous. Friendly staff and lovely decor. Top coffee too, will deffo be back for dinner one day

This place is amazing. Recommended by a family member, I decided to try this restaurant. Have to say that I wasn’t too inspired by the menu but let me tell you that I was wrong. Every single small plate is absolutely delicious! One of my best meals. Service was amazing too

One of the best meal experiences my wife and I have had. Incredible food, lovely service, stylish but unpretentious interior aesthetic, fair and reasonably priced. We've lived and dined in London for over 20 years and we'd struggle to think of anything better we've experienced. Exquisite.

My second visit to Cook House. Cannot find fault with the experience. Staff friendly and helpful. Staff did seem to be enjoying their work (definitely a good thing - I don't like restaurants where the staff aren't enjoying themselves or look miserable). Wines and beers, interesting and good / very good. The food, excellent or fantastic - Either word works for me. Will definitely be back

Visited here a little while back, food was good, service also good but the portion sizes are smaller as they seem to focus more on quality, which is what they're aiming for and it is nice. There's on street parking nearby

Ordered 2 bacon sandwiches, or should that be grease sandwiches. I was going to ask for more bacon with the grease. As a HGV Driver for the last 30 years I have stopped at many motorway services, truck stops and 'greasy spoons' and I have to rate the cookhouse bacon sandwich as the worst I have ever had, not to mention at £7.00 each the most expensive.

Wonderful meal here last night for my birthday. It was a glorious evening so sat in garden having aperitif and then went inside for meal. There is also a terrace upstairs at the back.. we wenre made to feel welcome by friendly staff and able to see into open kitchen where it seemed very calm even though meals were constantly going out. 2 slices of their sourdough (on sale downstairs) and butter started meal. My starter of the asparagus with egg was delicious as was his crispy mushrooms with nduja sauce so waitress brought an extra plate so we could share. My roast cauliflower with bean mash rich and tasty and he enjoyed his confit chicken thigh with more asparagus. We shared a cheese board with the most amazing crackers (on sale downstairs) and pannacotta. Also had a nice rosé wine. Bill with service charge came to £164.

This was not as I imagined it to be. Due to the Michelin star, my expectations were a little higher than going to other restaurants. I really do appreciate the work that went into sourcing and producing the food, but I was underwhelmed by the price and presentation.

Hipster restaurant. Kambucha etc. But really good. Like most hipster places, no soft furnishings so soubd bounces harshly off all the hard surfaces. But great food and service.

Disgusting service from this business… ordered and failed to deliver. The staff showed no remorse or attempted to resolve. Will never use this unprofessional set up again

Went with my teenage daughter today after 1 of her friends had been and said the food was lush. We both had virgin cocktails which were very nice then had chicken sharma wraps with chips and side salad with bread. When we sat down we were brought complimentary olives and dips which were very tasty. Food served quickly and freshly prepared will definitely will be going back. Highly recommend 👌
