Myself and my husband decided to have a evening out. The food and service was excellent,we will come back again. Prices are reasonable and good choices for vegetarian options. Plus the selection of dessert is out of this world.. Thank you very much to Andy and all his staff members for a lovely service. From Dan & Anita Long

Tucked away on the edge of Ouseburn, this stop made for a great weekend brunch spot. Wide range of food and drink (kombucha being made behind the bar) with open galley kitchen to see, hear and smell all the dishes being prepared fresh. Worth visiting anytime of day for a bite to eat

Came here for lunch on a Sunday with family (the roast chicken was sold out by 1:30 when we arrived). Everything was delicious, especially the pork belly main and the both the hispi cabbage and potato sides. The mains are a decent size but probably need a side to make them filling! Staff were lovely. Very interesting selection of drinks including lots of good cocktails and soft drink options.

We were charged 12.5% of the service charge when the service we were offered was way below expectation. I was utterly disappointed with the service and attitude, if I knew that was happening, I would have taken off on Saturday night. Unfortunately the bill was all paid by my fiancé who was actually quite drunk without reading too much into it. There were few reasons why we were disappointed with the service and I'm actually gutted that we had to pay so much service charge for it. First of all, a full glass of my sparkling wine was spilled everywhere when one of the waiters was collecting all the plates and cutlery in. He dropped the cutlery, broke my wine glass and got the wine all over my friend and my outfit. No apology was given and the napkins that we've used to clean it up for him weren't replaced either. Soon after that, we had to order more wine ourselves and request for an extra glass to replace my broken one. Nothing was offered by him to replace the full wine that he spilled everywhere. Secondly, when we asked them to help us take some group photos, they rolled their eyes at us before taking them and everyone saw it. I couldn't help but wonder if this is the typical service standard that you offer on a daily basis. We have actually feedback these to the owner, however we only received tons of excuses and no apology. Will not come back even the food was amazing. Your customer deserves better.

The potential is there but the execution is poor. This place is overpriced and overhyped and I simply don't understand all the great reviews at all. Everything was bland with the exception of the hispi cabbage side - although at 7 quid for a bit of cabbage, it is wildly priced. Really wanted to enjoy it but didn't. Everything was a bit cold and the obsession with bland whipped cheese (?) wasn't good. Price wise, it's playing in the premier league but the food doesn't match up.

We found this on the Michelin app and what a find - excellent really innovative menu - I'm not a vegetarian but I selected both a vegetarian starter and main course. Great service, reasonable cost and lovely ambience. We liked it so much we went back for brunch two days later and again not disappointed. Highly recommended

First time eating at this restaurant, unfortunately it will probably be my last, food combinations were interesting but completely over priced for the ingredients used. I had the pork belly strips with curried beans and some new potatoes while my partner had a small mackerel with some assorted pickles, we also ordered half a bottle of house wine. The bill came to an eye watering £84 with an automatically added service charge of 15%. Conclusion would be that the food was okay but nothing special and it was completely overpriced for what it was and for the venue itself, also automatically adding a service charge to the bill is very pretentious and does tend to leave a bad taste in the mouth as all gratuities should be discretionary and not obligatory, Management take note! 3/10

Delicious food and great service. My tempura cauliflower with a curry sauce was shared with my friends and loved by everyone. Others found the salads delicious and my sole main course was also great. We enjoyed an early dinner after a friendly welcome to the restaurant. The menu and drinks list had an excellent selection to choose from. All the food was different, considered and very tempting. As the puddings seemed so good we missed the started and went straight into the mains. We had the Hake and the lamb with a couple of sides and they were both so good. For pudding we had the trifle and the carrot cake….again very memorable puddings. There was no rush and our server was attentive all the time we were there. First Class, we will do it again soon!

All the food was really good, as good as some of the mains were they were poor value as it was small portions. Unfortunately, got their homemade "cola" and couldn't even drink it, all of us at the table tried it and no one would drink it. Also, the wait time we felt like was a bit too long. If you are after big portions and good value, this is not for you. If you want somewhere nice, have plenty of time and are not a big eater I would recommend.

The meal started off strong with reasonably priced drink options, sensational sourdough and kimchi. Unfortunately ended disappointed with main courses. The bavette was the most expensive yet the most bland main meal I’ve had for a while and subsequently I’ve now seen via social media that it was not served with everything as listed on the menu (see photos). The meat was also chewy which is disappointing for a Michelin guide restaurant. I’d also have to agree with other reviews - adding a service charge automatically never leaves the customer feeling happy! Maybe it was a one off bad plate but we sadly won’t be returning as the quality and cost do not match up.

Sehr aufmerksame Bedienung. Arrived without a booking. Server was polite and courteous, said we can have a table for 45 mins. No problem we thought Ordered 1 starter and 2 mains. After 20 mins asked where our starter was. Server went to check and brought our kipper pate starter with our 2 mains !!! Ok , no worries will just go with it. Started to eat mains and they were cold. Very cold. And yes it may be an awarding winning restaurant but portion sizes were for kids at best. Shocked at how poor the food was. Pretentious and over priced. Yes it’s in the Ouseburn the new place to be, but daylight robbery springs to mind. Chefs who think there unbelievable, unfortunately you need to self reflect on your poor food. Crackling ! Chef it was soggy and unpalatable . And yes. That pork is a main course for £25

I have been to this lovely restaurant twice and so my photos were from both of the visits. First time I came was back in 2021 and the second time was last Saturday. Both times we came for dinner so can't comment on their daytime menu. I was visiting my friend in Newcastle for the weekend and she recommended this place for us to try together as she had already been multiple times and had thought the food and overall experience was great. I know they were on the Michelin guide a few years in a roll so I was really looking forward to trying it out. My first time there was absolutely fantastic, great experience all the way from greeting at the reception to sitting down, ordering and paying. Staff members were very friendly and nice, took the time to explain the menu to us. On the first visit, we had the shrimp salad as a starter and then for mains we ordered the lamb chop with cous cous and mussels with a side of potatoes. The salad was refreshing and a great way to stimulate our appetites. The lamb was absolutely fantastic, so savoury and not gamey at all. Second visit we had the brown shrimp salad with blood orange which was once again super refreshing and stimulating. Mains we went with roast pork shoulder and braised is cheeks. The pork shoulder was absolutely delightful, crunchy crackling and tender meat. The apple sauce and potatoes were such a great complement to the meat and really pleasant. The ox cheeks were also soft and tender, particularly enjoyed the beetroot on the side with their dill pesto, so savoury. We enjoyed both but we agreed the pork was the highlight. For dessert we ordered the earl grey poached pear with chocolate and walnut ganache which was lovely. Such an interesting combination of flavours yet they somehow worked. That tea flavour coming through in your month balancing with the rich dark chocolate ganache made it so moreish and easy to eat. Absolutely not too sweet and it's just a light dessert to nicely wrap up our dinner. On both times we thoroughly enjoyed our visits there and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good restaurants in Newcastle. They change menus regularly so you can always get excited for what they will cook on the day. I am already looking forward to coming back one day!

We were on a city break to Newcastle, and friends recommended the Cook House. Incredible meal! We tried booking online but it said unavailable, but we phoned to see if there was any wriggle room and the staff were so helpful and got us in early. We were amazed at the quality of the dishes, the creativity of the food and the taste was faultless. Plenty of vegetarian options, as well as hearty meat dishes. The mushroom ragu was off the scale! Not the cheapest of meals, but when the quality and taste is so high it was well worth it. The staff and restaurant location are also worth a big shout out. Great service, and the location, in the heart of fascinating part of the former old industrial part of the city by the river adds to the experience. So many good, unspoilt, old traditional pubs near by - The Ship and The Cumberland Arms.

We had family visiting from London this weekend. It was a big party, there were 12 of us including two vegetarians. The cookhouse offered a set menu with a variety of small plates, large plates and sides for a set price and every single thing was perfect. Our family loved it, the food was delicious and well presented, the staff were excellent as always. It can’t be easy on a Saturday evening to handle a large party like that, but everything went off smoothly. I would definitely recommend the cookhouse to anyone. Thanks so much everybody. Off the peg John Lewis plates and fairly standard quality cutlery let the food down. It was my first visit. A quiet lunchtime. The place has a lovely feel. The staff are very friendly and on the ball. I wasn’t very impressed with the food. The menu promised a lot but one of BBC the two dishes I ordered didn’t deliver. A slow-cooked ragu was more like shredded beef bolognese on toast. Maybe that’s what it was supposed to be but it was quite disappointing for £11. I gave it 4/5 because I have a feeling that this place could have a lot to offer.

I’ve always loved the cookhouse and visited many a time- always loved the unusual but brilliant food combinations and it’s always a nice place to go to try something a little bit different. I visited at the weekend and ordered oyster mushrooms on toast with smoked garlic - it tasted amazing butttt the portion size was tiny. I understand it’s classed as a ‘small plate’ but for nearly a tenner I expected to get at least a full slice of sourdough bread. I couldn’t help feel a bit ripped off and everything else I was with said the same. I will visit again but rather than visit regularly, it’ll be a special occasion type of place where you don’t mind spending a Bob or two.

My only downsides if I had to be picky was the BBQ brocoli was quite meh and hard - wasn't too keen on the potatoes, boring and bland - I know it's a posh establishment but I'd have killed for some chips or fries with my food. Hipster restaurant. Kambucha etc. But really good. Like most hipster places, no soft furnishings so soubd bounces harshly off all the hard surfaces. But great food and service.

Been here a couple of times now and it's always a great experience. It's on the expensive side but you can always count on eating well.

Nice overall vibe. Perhaps the food doesn't quite match the hype but it's still a great and refreshing dining experience

We went to visit nearby Ouseburn Farm and stumbled on this restaurant. We thouroughly enjoyed our meal! Highlights were the butter bean and hazelnut soup, tempura broccoli with coconut sauce, grapefruit tart with pepper pastry and the cheese platter (lovely local cheeses, chutney, beautifully crisp seeded crackers and who-knew-pickled-celery-could-be-so-good?). We got distracted by the food and forgot to take photos till the end. Service was excellent.

A little underwhelmed. Had pickles with our starters. The pickles were OK but the starters were the best course of the night. Mains were disappointing for the price. The food was warm rather than hot and would have expected a bit more flavour and complexity for the price. The wine we had was nothing special really. Desserts were good but again would have expected a bit more. Service was great and we were happy to pay the service charge and the cocktails were excellent. Would we go back? I'm not sure.

Venue and service were excellent. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because two of the dishes we ordered had far too much lettuce on the plate. It basically swamped the dish. There was not enough of the other ingredients on the plates which was a pity because they were delicious. Minor grumble and I'm sure we'll be back.

Lovely little place on Chillingham Road. Couldn't ask for better service, chef/owner really cares about the food and it shows as the food was delicious! We visit regularly and recommend to friends.

The waitress who served us went over and beyond to help us as we had never been before, she was so friendly and a credit to you. The food was lovely and nice decor for our pre theatre lunch, I have recommended you to a number of friends.
