Junkyard Nottingham in Nottingham

Unfortunately, I've had to edit my review and not for the better. We fell upon this tucked away bar by in Bridlesmith Gate by accident on a Saturday afternoon and found it quirky and staff friendly. If you like real ales there is an abundance of choices also it serves food which by all accounts what we saw coming out looked OK. On the back of our visit we recommended a vist for our friend's as they both like real ales, thiscwhete it's all gone spectacularly wrong. They both ordered a pint each of different beers, firstly the cost of each pint was £9.00!!! and disappointingly the customer service was non existent when it came to changing one of the pints due to the vinegar like taste. This beer would have been better poured in a Sarsons bottle and served. My friend asked the barmaid if she could change the beer as it was so sickly and was told a blunt no we don't do it once poured. The bar could claimed the beer back as ullage / spillage. Fair enough my friend could have asked to sample the beer first, however, the barmaid could or should have insisted she has a sample first as it was an unusual and acquired taste. It was embarrassing for my wife and i having invited our friends to this establishment, and on the back of this experience we will not be back and i certainly won't be recommending the Junkyard to any of my other friends.

Lovely bar with a great atmosphere and really good selection of beers. Staff are always happy to help, weekends are busy, mid week is a bit more chill. Definitely recommend for something a bit different

Easily one of the top joints in town to grab a beer and some great food. Totally inviting place, and everyone is made to feel welcome! Plenty of great breweries, both local and international, and also great spirits, cocktails and natty wines if that’s your thing! Food is also great, and surprisingly healthy and fresh for a place that specialises in beer!

What can I say. Not a safe environment. Staff inviting to have a talk, and then being thrown a out for not being PC enough. And let me be clear, I never offended anyone. My departure had other people leave as well. Been loads of times, will never be back.

Surely got to be the best pub in town? Great atmosphere and fantastic selection of beers. Nice option to go for 2/3rds so you can try some different tipples. DJ was great, spinning the tunes, top notch evening, so we’re going back next week.

Came in to drink some very nice beers and ate some very reasonably priced pickled eggs 👍👍 great stuff

Over the course of a few years I have been to Junkyard several times for drinks in the evening, however recently I have been lucky enough to sample their menu. The menu itself boasts a variety of dishes, I am vegetarian and felt I had plenty of options to try from. After ordering our dishes - I had the potatoes, veggie pie and mushroom rolls, they arrived at the table in good time, with lovely presentation and also piping hot. The dishes did not disappoint, truly delicious home made pie and rich flavourful mushroom rolls. The potatoes were as crunchy and fluffy as could be and I was nicely surprised at the hints of Middle Eastern flavours within the food, which worked very well and added a refreshing take on classic pub cuisine. My compliments are to the chef who has taken the heart and soul of wholesome pub grub and updated it with unique flavours and Middle Eastern fusions. I will definitely be eating here again!!

Food amazing, best vegan burger I have ever had! (I have had many!) Plus very tasty side dishes. Staff very friendly.

The beer and drinks here have always been good. Now the food has been transformed to the best kept secret category. Superb. No photos necessary.

Had a great two thirds pint of Funky fluid which is a polish beer. There selection of beers is as elliptic as they come. Nice beer garden.

Just had the strangest of interactions here … I asked to try a taster of between two very similar looking pale ales … as is the norm in any place serving craft ales . I was told they don’t do that anymore … the manager told me that I should ask the staff about which I’d prefer which is intrinsically ludicrous as how would they know what my taste would be . Appreciate other people may have abused the taster concept but I’m experienced in my preferences and as I say the two were very similar DDH pales . There’s plenty of other places to choose from in Hockley so I’ll not come again … more because of the attitude to me as a customer displayed by the manager

Friendly enough service and quite good vibes but the most ridiculously overpriced beers, in some cases very pretentious, I’ve ever come across.

Fantastic little bar with a wide variety of ales on tap and beer in the fridge. The staff were very helpful especially Sarah who went out of her way to recommend some places for us to visit during our trip to Nottingham.

Wonderful bar in cleverly disguised alleyway with a good range of beers and gins. Superb and attentive service but can get a bit hectic and (very) noisy when busy. Hugely metrosexual and accepting crowd, but that's par for the Lace Market area.

Popped in here for a tasty beer and it did not disappoint! Great range of beer, super friendly service. We enjoyed it so much, we went back next day after having an overnight stay. Will definitely visit again! Loved it.

This restaurant had a very chilled vibe and the food was alternative. Each dish was very tasty and very nice although the portions were a bit too small.

We had a couple of drinks before going on to Iberico World Tapas. The drinks were really good, and the atmosphere in the Junkyard was really good. Would definitely return.

By chance stumbled on this bar and really enjoyed it. Interesting selection of drinks so think would appeal to everyone and had a nice inside seated area along with a shared courtyard out the back and a small space at the front. Descubrimos este pub una tarde, una joya brillante de un lugar escondido detrás del centro de IBIS (debe haber otras formas de llegar allí, así como un pequeño callejón al lado del IBIS!). Diez cervezas artesanales: el marido dijo que la que eligió fue la mejor que había probado nunca, ¡y ha tenido muchas a lo largo de los años! ), vendido por 2/3 de una pinta - muy único. Lugar agradable, no enorme. No probé la comida, pero sin duda lo recomendaría si le gusta el estilo 'pub' o rústico en lugar de un elegante local de cócteles.

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat, it’s a really cool place and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The menu is very small which is the only thing I would fault it on. The Mac and cheese is to die for! Great beer selection.

Heard about this place from a few friends who live in Nottingham & is well worth a visit if you're into cool beers & something a bit different!

We had read up about this great craft beer bar back in our home town of Liverpool before starting a six day trip to Nottingham and this bar surpassed our expectations.

I've been going to Junkyard for years as our fave local bar, but I'm popping in to review just to give the food a shoutout!

Wonderful bar with an excellent selection of beers and knowledgeable staff. Gluten free beer too which is much appreciated

This is right up my street as a real ale and craft beer person, great choice with quick service from the staff and people talking to each other, what is not to like about here.

Excellent beer choice, late opening even in the week, friendly and helpful staff, and chatty clientele. All set in a courtyard but 5 paces from a tram stop. Fabulous. Good until 2200 too.

A nice little place. Gets very busy, but has a lot of beers on tap & a well stocked fridge selection. Not bad prices. Lots of friendly people & good service. Will definitely return

Visited on Saturday and enjoyed a few great beers and decided to share a pizza, everything was really good, the atmosphere was great throughout! Would certainly reccomend to visit, the best bar we went to on our visit to Notts!

A nice place with a good beer selection but serious beer drinkers be aware that after spending money here I was declined a small sample (for 2 of us to try) on the grounds it was too expensive! I drink many places (Untappd member) & attend many beer festivals and have never been declined a sample! A real shame!

Called in here for a quick bite to eat and few beers on a Thursday evening. It wasn't too busy and we managed to find a table easily. There was good selection of craft beers available and I believe they also sell beer to take away. The chocolate and seasalt stout was amazing!

A calm paradise of beer, food and gin. Found the Junkyard by accident and stayed longer than planned. I would highly recommend you visit and sample the food and beer. Will probably return tomorrow for breakfast. Love the place

Went to the Junkyard today for a beer and lunch, got our drinks attempted to buy some food but due to a few technical issues in the kitchen they couldn't do any food for my child , which we understood and decided to eat elsewhere. The staff were spot on and couldn't apologise enough and gave us the drinks with no charge. The bar staff even recommended a restaurant round the corner. Excellent beer, great staff we will go back!

Barstaff are very friendly, came for drinks during craft beer week and had a good time sitting in the nice courtyard outside. Good selection

They have a good choice of ales all chalked up on a board with plenty of info to help you make your choice. They also do a few wine, spirits and cocktails. Good atmosphere and helpful staff.

I am sure this place is jjumping on busy nights, but we went on a Sunday afternoon and it was very realxing. We knew about it already, and it is off the beaten track, but worth searching out.

We have often callled in this bar for a drink and sometimes food, not a bad beer on the board, food, to say it’s bar food is being discourteous it’s much better than that, I won’t be visiting again though, totally due to the bar staff/man, we asked for the bill, we were over charged by a couple of pounds, not much,easy mistake, I was going to let it go, however I mentioned it, got a refund and we were about to leave when the barman said “excuse me guys you’re supposed to pay for those drinks”, professional customer care or sarcasm? We were embarrassed to say the least, we protested and the barman said”it’s ok I believe you” not happy we elected to wait for the waitress, the one who had inadvertently overcharched us, apparently she hadn’t closed the tab.....”Sorry guys”, yeah right, I’ve recommended this bar to many of my friends, never again, which is a shame

We really liked it here. Another bar off the beaten track. You have to find a narrow alley way to access it. But once there you’ll be surprised by a nice little outside seating area that’s a great sun trap.

We were initially unsure of going here for food (I've been for drinks a few times and know that it's really nice) because the menu was really small and seemed like quite limited choice. However, the food that they do offer was amazing! I got the tacos and they were incredible, plus the price is super cheap too

I dropped in on a cold January afternoon. The ambience was warm & very welcoming. I liked the "feel" of the place and mooched about a bit. It's got a yard at the back with a projector which at the time was showing old trucks.

To be honest, I didn't know whether to rate this a 1 or a 5. A 1 - because it was the most disgusting service I have ever received. Or 5 - because the absolute ridiculousness of it provided the most entertainment we'd had all night.

My partner and I popped in here for just 1 drink as I really like craft beers. The staff were friendly and quick to serve and offer suggestions of which beers we would like and also offered samples before we made our decision. It was a little quite on a Wednesday afternoon (as to be expected) but this didn't dampen the atmosphere.

I cannot fault junkyard. The staff are friendly and helpful, the choice of beers is great with so many tasty pints to sample. It's off the beaten track a little which I like and it's got a lovely outdoor seating area front and back, as well as a great upstairs area with more seating and very clean and pleasant to be in. Definitely my new favourite ale bar in the city of Nottingham.

I've been to Junkyard a number of times for drinks and have always enjoyed the bar and the beer selection, so I chose it as the destination for my birthday lunch with good friends. Unfortunately though it was a disappointing experience for 3 out of the 4 of us. I enjoyed my Cali eggs (perfect poached eggs) although it was a small portion and definitely needed a side dish to go with it. The two people who had the chicken waffles were very unimpressed - the chicken was cremated and looked inedible. The mac n cheese balls were declared to be tasteless, and again a very small portion for the price. I will go back there for drinks, but after this experience I would not eat here again.

A simple pub but had a great feel. Loads of craft beers. Very friendly staff. Not really my thing as i didnt like the lager (they only had 1) but if you are into craft beers then this is your place. A tad epensive I thought too. £9.00 for a pint of beer and half of lager

Massive selection of craft ales.. some quite unusual. Great selection on draught. Lots of canned and bottled ales in fridge which can be taken out or drunk on premises. Felt that the £2 charge to drink in was too steep. Good food and bar snacks

Met up with some friends here on the weekend, had never been before but will definitely be returning. Really good craft ales available, really tasty food, and really friendly knowledgable attentive staff. It was a big plus that my doggy was allowed in, and the whole atmosphere of the place just felt very chilled and friendly. Love it :)

In a very out of the way place, it was a red hot day and I needed a cool beer. I was directed towards one of their IPAs, the Beavertown Lupaloid. At 6.8% abv, it was fruity and full bodied without being too heavy, so I had another. The Junkyard has a tasteful and slightly understated interior. There are a few tables outside in an old fashioned courtyard. I will definitely return and try the food.

We stopped here after work on a Friday. It's a nice set up with plenty of places to sit. We ate here and the burger my friend had was really good but the vegetarian chickpea burger was really dry and I wouldn't recommend. On the other hand the buffalo fries and panko potatoes were lush!

A great find. A great little spot for real ale drinkers. We were recommended to come here by other beer drinkers and were pleasantly surprised, we didn't know the place existed. I bet it would be lovely and buzzing in the courtyard on a summers evening, hidden away. A good choice of beer and other alcoholic drinks are available.

Great little bar tucked down an alleyway. Loads of unusual beers and I had a lovely Pimms or two! Menu looked interesting but we didn't try it. All the staff were very friendly and it appeared very clean.

My current local favourite - aesthetically pleasing, chilled vibe, informal friendly service and interesting menu. Best sliders in town and the breakfast stack hits the spot!

Not only is the food very good but the setting of this lovely old building with the skylight and lots of daylight coming in is perfect especially on a sunny spring afternoon. We had a very nice meal I had a great steak sandwich which was really tasty and my mum had the fish cakes which she loved. The staff were really nice and friendly too. Perfect for a nice catch up with friends and family - a little gem hidden away in the streets of Nottingham away from the city chaos.

Stumbled across this place today while looking for a bite to eat with a colleague and was extremely impressed. Junkyard is a really cool little bar with lively staff, fantastic food and a really relaxed atmosphere.Had a spot of lunch in the small courtyard outside and could not have been happier with the food, drink and service in the March sunshine.Cuban sandwich was to die for, great selection of beers and staff with a great sense of humor and high quality attentive service. I will certainly be back...next time for a few beers rather than a lunch time coffee!

We ate in the Herbet Kilpin next door and then went to the junkyard for a drink, good atmosphere friendly bar staff and a fantastic selection of beers. Highly recommended.

I moved to the UK after having grown up in Belgium... the capital of good beer! And I was disappointed time after time with the selection and quality of beer in Nottingham.When I first visited Junkyard ages ago now, when it first opened, I knew I'd be coming back every time I would be craving a good beer. It is the place to go! :) Even now, when more places are popping up and also offering decent stuff, Junkyard is still one of the best.

I am obsessed with fine beer, well made fresh food and interesting / inviting interiors. This is Nottinghams best example to date. A firm favourite of mine for a lazy Sunday. They are also very welcoming of kids which is handy, if you also have them. Staff are well informed and not patronising or overly hip. Which is refreshing for this kind of place. Go, definitely.

I stopped here for a drink on my birthday, a Saturday evening. It is clean, tidy and contemporary. Good selection of ales. I was on a little bar crawl and this place was the most uneventful. It's does what's it's meant to do but it left no real impression on me. I will still go back one one but it will be to eat.

Nice bar, which I didn't know existed in Nottingham. The Junkyard has a great selection of beers on tap, in bottles and cans. It also has a nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very pleasant. I will be back and will hopefully try the food this time.

Tucked in an alleyway off lace market, this is a quirky little place for different food than your normal restaurant. Great choice of beers which constantly changes. Really good customer service.

Been here numerous times -my husband loves all the draught ales & we come here for this reason. I'm a simple wine/cider person but still love the atmosphere. Cute smoking area and really nice to sit in the summer :)

Great range of beers and some nice snacks to go with it too. It's not the cheapest place to eat or drink but it's worth the extra and a great way to while away a Saturday afternoon tasting beers from around the world.

The place serves beer. That's about it's only redeeming feature. However it's overpriced, it's undersized. And generally the place is full of people who should be at home with a crossword. Not sitting at the bar on a Thursday night doing the crossword in The Guardian trying to make yourself note attractive to your own sock.The American Stout and porters on the sample 'skate'board are not as good as some of the local ales that they could stock. But that would not be in keeping with the bars 'too cool for skool' outlook. It's a shame, as I have heard good things about the food. I just can't see past the clientele, to get to the menu.There are plenty of other places to go. Which will probably suit the bar-proppers that were there tonight..

Been here 3 or 4 times now and will continue to return , beer list is off the charts , staff are cool, location is tucked away would be sweet to sit here and lash beers on an afternoon in summer. Food menu is also epic , recommend the Cuban sandwich or the surf n turf burger !

A great busy venue usual hustle and bustle on a Saturday night. No long wait at the bar also bar staff attentive. Quite a friendly atmosphere with a mix of varying age groups that worked well. I'll definitely keep this venue on my must visit list of cool venues.

Venture to Nottingham to meet up with a few pals. Wanted something a little bit different than the usual haul along at the Sir John and The Organ Grinder (nothing wrong with them, mind) and stumbled upon this place.Great selection of craft beer on draft and in cans and bottles to take away. Knowledgeable staff who recommended a pale ale by Brixton Brewery. Really relaxed vibe for a Friday lunchtime. Will be back in the future no doubt.
