Took my wife out for a meal after work, food was lovely and so was the staff. Decor was very dated and dull lighting. I wouldn't go again just on the decor, it just feels really old.

We were really NOT made very welcome..The locals were very rude and intimidating..Its advertised as a 'dog friendly ' establishment, but were made to feel uncomfortable with other ( non resident) guests..Yes we have a puppy of 8months that was experiencing new surroundings so did bark a little but wasn't aggressive or unapproachable! Other dogs ( not residents) were much older but in the dog world that does NOT always mean not intimidating to othe dogs.. I felt on edge and uncomfortable and found myself constantly apologising for my dogs..Not a relaxed stay.. The owners should have been a bit more supportive of their staying guests but didn't feel that was the case..I WONT be going back, NOT a pleasant or relaxing experience!

This is my first and last trip to this establishment. The place was packed even at just past 12 noon on a Sunday. We ordered our food and drinks at the table but on arrival we were told we would have to be out by 1:30 pm as the table was booked, another indication that this was a popular place. Unfortunately the food and drink did not live up to the level of popularity!! The food came within a couple of minutes of placing the order. The waitress asked us not to touch the veg plate as it would be very hot. It was not, it was stone cold as were the vegetables. I ordered pork and my friend ordered lamb. The pork was dry and had obviously been cut and left many hours previous. The lamb had probably been left in a bain marie of water and had lost any taste it may have once had. The roast potatoes (2 only) were cold and soggy, the veg was cold, the Yorkshire puddings were cold and soggy, the mash had been squashed down by the "slice of undercooked stuffing" plonked on it to make it look like there was a decent meal on the plate. £17.00 each for one course - never again. Whatever you do, dont book it for a special occasion or your friend and family will not forgive you.

I booked weeks in advance as it was a birthday treat for my mum. Upon entering it wasn't a pleasant welcoming the two women were unfriendly and gave the impression we were an inconvenience with their sour faces! The meals we ordered were a big disappointment over priced, small portion and not very well cooked. I sent my steak back as it was undercooked it came back being slammed back down in front of me with no apology or anything. It was still undercooked i asked for medium to well done and it was rare with pink juice that went all over the other food on my plate. I couldn't eat more than a mouthful. No one really enjoyed the food out of our party. We ordered desserts and again was greeted with a snarl from the waitresses. We ordered several drinks alcoholic and soft drinks and spent quite a considerable amount of money. over my shoulder i witnessed the waitresses look at our table and with a motion pick us up and throw us out. Very very rude staff i won't return EVER AGAIN.

Booked a family meal for 9 people but disappointing is an understatement, one meal came with out salad, but was stated in menu, staff never rectified issue and then tried to charge for some coleslaw!, unfortunately had to send a meal back to kitchen for being under cooked only to be returned with the chef saying its how its supposed tobe, again not mentioned on menu. turns out we had 3 party member poorly afterwards. Pleased not to return as they are lucky to have a captive audience being one of only two pubs in village. The Gate pub up the road is alot better.

Oh dear. Pre-booked on an early Saturday evening. Ordered 4 x sirloin steaks which feature heavily on their menu. Took them 20 minutes to tell them they’d run out of sirloin because they’d been so busy. Clearly they have a communication problem between kitchen and waiting, clearly they have a supply ordering problem. Woman who informed us who claimed to be the manager was very dismissive of our complaint of the delay. Ordered alternative food which was underwhelming. Cod and scampi were both tasteless. Rump steak was tougher than old boots. I couldn’t be bothered with the argument, but my Mum mentioned the state of her steak and got a whopping 10% off - taking the proverbial. Heard the ‘manager’ discussing our drinks or she thought lack of when I got some more - if she bothered to ask her staff we actually paid for them when they were ordered as two different households paying for different elements of the meal. Would the drinks have been waived perhaps? Well we got 10% off one steak meal. The ‘manager’ needs to get some training on hospitality customers service. Other staff were lovely.

Picturesque old style village pub but the inside is looking it’s age as well. Seat cushions were ripped and the table very small for a party of four adults. Overall it exhibited the patina of a bygone age but the food was worth enduring for. Good sized portions of well cooked and tasty food. Service was also polite and friendly. The pub was full when we visited and one can only surmise it is for the good food not the tiny table next to the toilets.

we booked here for a family of 30 for my mums 80th it was booked months in advance, all meals was pre ordered. The main waitress was rude and swearing in front of children as she was getting confused with bringing the food out. the younger waitress couldnt do enough for us but the older waitress talked down to her and snapped at her on more than one occasion, which was uncomfortable to watch and listen to. The food was awful, every meal was cold, the chips were soaking in grease and obviously not been cooked fresh and left under a heat lamp to try and keep warm. one of my family members got his peppercorn sauce after he had finished his meal . ive out a complaint in to head office will not be returning !!!

Seriously not really sure why there's loads of 4 & 5 star reviews. I've never left my food before until I ate here. We had a chicken platter to start, nothing special just warmed up chicken nuggets and wings. Didn't really rate the peppers with cheese in batter. I had a chicken burger and chips. The chicken was dry, the bacon salty and the cheese had been grilled. It just tasted cheap. My husband had fish and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce. The fish was edible at best, the tartar sauce was awful. The best thing about the pub was the pint!! I'd avoid unless you like cheap food with a price tag.

My friend had a meal from the special's board which was sea bass, This was £12 - 95 When the meal arrived there was only half a plate full One small fillet of sea bass, which in other restaurants there are always 2 pieces , There were a few crushed potatoes and very few prawns no vegetables, In other restaurants this meal came with a good selection of vegetables and lots of prawns so this was very poor Value for money, I had Fish and Chips of which the chips were awful and the fish was much smaller than the one I had on my previous visit, This place needs to get it's act together quickly or they will be losing trade to other restaurants in the area

It started out pretty well, we were greeted and shown to a table, given menus and our drinks order taken. The drinks were pretty quick and we were left with an instruction that someone would be back shortly to take our order. That's where all the good stopped. The table was in the dingiest part of the restaurant, where we were constantly interrupted by people trying to find the gents toilets. After half an hour, no one had come to take our order, so I went to the bar to order. My first choice of meal was no longer available to order, and hadn't been for a while, as the server didn't know why it was still on the menu. I changed my order and went back to wait for it. It was fairly quick from the point of ordering, but it was bland. I ordered a "pan-fried garlic chicken", and if that chicken had been near a pan, I'd be surprised. It was also majorly underseasoned, as was the mashed potato that came with it, and it was surrounded in some poor excuse for what appeared to claim to be a mushroom sauce. All-in-all, I would avoid this one if you like food.

We were bitterly disappointed by our visit to the Jug and Glass today. Immediately on arrival drinks and meals were ordered. The drinks were served straight away. However, it took well over 35 minutes to get our food. People who came in well after us had been served and were almost finished even before we received ours. Worst part was the burnt pizzas which the children had ordered and really should not even have been sent out of the kitchen but the children were hungry having waited so long. We should have sent them back in hindsight. In view of this we will not be returning.

Went to the jug and glass on a Monday night as we wanted to not do the washing up. I had pie mash and garden peas. It was a small plate that had just been microwaved and served. My partner had fish, chips and mushy peas. The chips were soggy and limp and the peas came with a lot of vinegar in them. So they were not eaten. All in all I should have cooked myself and done the pots.

This was our second visit to the Jug & Glass. Though very busy with customers inside and outside, enjoying the picturesque surroundings, we were served promptly. We had reserved a table but changed tables to one further from the bar, without fuss.. I had butterfly chicken and chips, The small piece of chicken was very dry and didn't taste of much ( I think it had been microwaved), but some of the chips were reasonable (quite a lot of them has black bits and weren't eatable). My husband had chicken curry, he said it was not too bad but he wouldn't order it again..We all had a different meal and the others in our large party rated their meals as good, though I noticed one of us left most of their meal.. To sum up - wonderful location, lovely sunny day, friendly, efficient staff, meals not quite as good as our previous visit..

On pulling in i was quite excited-from the outside a pretty looking pub in a lovely spot, overlooking a stream and green, so we had high hopes for a pleasant experience. We had phoned ahead and asked to reserve a table but arriving 20 minutes later were told they hadnt had time to do it so help yourself to a table. Table chosen and meal ordered-was suprised to be asked for the debit card which was to be retained behind the bar even though we weren’t paying on that card and in fact paying cash. It is at this point, had i gone to order the food i would have refused this request-in this day and age retaining someones debit card-out of sight of the owner of said card-is totally unacceptable, but my partner chose to agree to their request, more fool him if that card should get cloned !!! Food took about 25 minutes to arrive, which i dont have a problem with when its freshly cooked, but this gave me plenty of time to take in the overall drab, tired and very dull grey surroundings-what a total disappointment after seeing the pretty exterior. Carpet is filthy, 1/2” dust on ledges, sills, fire etc. A grimy sachet tomato sauce packet, gunged up with sauce was on our table before , during our meal and remained there when we left despite our plates being cleared away. Staff are very sharp-not friendly. I asked for mayo and two sachets were practically thrown at the table. No condiments(salt, pepper, vinegar) on table-none offered and had to go and borrow from another table. Overall the service was very unfriendly, almost hostile. The only reason iv given this place a rating of 3 is down to the tasty food-which was very nice and fairly priced, never the less i won’t be going back again.

Lovely pub, friendly helpful staff, pre ordered over the phone, think some confusion ensued as plain pasta with tomato sauce and mushrooms turned into just plain boiled pasta with some tomato and mushroom. Asked if garlic bread would be ok, thinking they could get some from the frozen section at supermarkets that's vegan, the garlic bread given was their own & not vegan. At almost £10 for this meal i was a bit shocked as it was next to nothing compared to other meals. Will give this a miss for food in future. Everyone else said their meals were delicious though, would have been nice to be able to say the same.

Visited last weekend for dinner, and left the place pleased overall.Had the burger, it was quite nice. Bun was fresh, bacon with cheese also added a lot of flavor. I would have liked the actual beef pattie to be slightly bigger/thicker, as it looked fairly smallish, compared to the size of the bun.Salad that came with it was very fresh too.Highlight was the chips. Great taste! Probably homemade.Service was very good. Friendly people.Decor was a bit dated, but to be honest it doesn’t matter. If a refurbishment took place and the cost was passed onto the customers (eg. by increasing prices), then I’d sooner leave it as it is.Will come again, but next time I will probably try the cod n chips, me thinks. One of the other customers had ordered it, and it looked enormous!

£16 for a 3 course xmas meal is good value. The pub itself looks to be a bit old fashioned, which is no bad thing, and the staff and friendly and efficient. The food is not memorable, but it's tasty enough, and good value. I had prawn cocktail (seemed defrosted, and some prawns still had a bit of shell on) with ordinary slice of bread with margarine on; roast beef with all the trimmings, where the beed was well don but soft, the roast potatoes and parsnips tasted good if not crisp, the stuffing was okay if dry on the outside, the gravy was okay, the Yorkshire pudding was big and crisp, and the side veg were a bit overdone and bland; and I had a moist chocolate fondant with basic ice cream.I'd recommend the pub to anyone staying the area on a budget.

When I last went to The jug and Glass Inn, it was back in 2008! So, me and the partner reminiscing, decided to take a long trip from Sheffield to here, to see if the food was just as amazing as it once was.. Unfortunately, we were disappointed, the first thing I found strange was that there was no set menu, there were different menus for different days, on a sheet of A4 paper. So, I ordered the Cannelloni, and my partner being a true northerner, Chicken Pie.. When the pie arrived, it looked as though someone had ran to the chippy, the food was cold, and the gravy lumpy and sort of thrown on top of it, as for my Cannelloni, the ricotta cheese tasted a little like bread, and the pasta sheets so undercooked in the centre. We were so disappointed with the food, but on the other hand, it is clean, and a friendly environment, the food needs some work.. Bring back the old chief?...

This pub provides good food at reasonable prices in attractive setting. It is well worth a visit, and on a good day, its lovely to eat outside, enjoy the gentle waters of the stream running along the frontage and choose a good beer to accompany your meal.

Lovely village Pub, didn't eat here but the food looked delicious. Very welcoming to children. If the weather is good then there are seats outside to enjoy the surroundings

The food was decent enough for a pub, but too expensive. Mansfield is littered with good value eateries, so there is too much competition.

I've been several times to the Jug and Glass, the food and service have always been excellent. I've been 2 Sundays in July for the Sunday lunch. Very pleased both times. The ladies serving were very attentive, following up after each course was served, and the food was tasty, home cooked, and piping hot . I liked having the vegetables and potatoes served separately, there were 3 good slices of meat and a sauce boat of gravy. I have recommended to several friends and colleagues.

Bit pricey. Plenty of other places for better value. Food nothing special. This is a very competitive market around here.

This is a pub that does what it does very well. Not pricey, no intention to be posh, but excellent food, huge menu choice, great value and served by cheerful polite staff. Great beer too and the best chips. Lots of seating, including outside by the river, but still cosy as it is divided into lots of corners and areas. Prompt service too, just ideal when on the road. This is becoming a regular stop off for us and we haven't been disappointed yet.

Great coffee. Poor service. Six customers stood waiting for coffees to be made. One girl working her butt off trying to make coffees and hand food out whilst another girl just stood behind the till doing nothing, a man disappeared on his break and two other girls outside having a cigarette. Need I say more 🙄

This was a Monday lunchtime meal for 6 friends, and due to a cancelled walk beforehand because of the heavy rain, we arrived very early, but as our reserved table was available we were promptly seated. Excellent start, and having been given menus, ordered drinks and placed meal orders everything was fine. Starters arrived, a couple of Garlic Mushrooms with Rustic bread looked fine. My Japanese Karaage dish ( chicken pieces in spicy batter with harissa) wasn’t great, the batter whilst crispy on the outside, was soggy inside and the chicken pieces inside were very small, not breast meat but looked like thigh. The harissa was actually a harissa inspired mayo dip, very spicy but nice for it. For main course, three of us had Sea Bass fillets with crushed garlic potatoes with a wine and cheese sauce with green beans and carrots. Very nicely presented, however I’ve never had a plated meal which was so hot ( except for oven baked lasagne, fish pie etc) in particular the potatoes which were sliced and not crushed. At a guess, the plated meals had been waiting under the heated lamps on the pass for some time whilst other meals were ready. The sea bass was rather dry because of this, but copious amounts of white wine and cheese sauce provided in a gravy boat moistened the fish nicely. However, I’d much rather have a very hot meal rather than tepid or verging on cold as I experienced on more than one occasion. Our friends had a chicken and mushroom pie (thick soggy crust), a lamb and mint pie, and a plain butterflied chicken breast, all with accompanying vegetables, everything well presented. After this we waited and waited and waited, then had to shout to the bar for dessert menus half an hour after finishing main courses. Desserts weren’t great, 3 of us had a gluten free NY baked cheesecake which was very grainy and not pleasant, the mixed berries were not defrosted properly and the ice cream was bland. Others had apple and blackberry crumble and no one managed more than half of their dish, which comprised roughly 70% crumble and 30% fruit. Unfortunately not many complements were forthcoming. Again after finishing desserts we had to shout to the bar for attention for hot drinks to finish with. Coffee was nice, but the tea drinkers weren’t impressed, there was ‘just tea’ available, no varieties, and what arrived was very weak. The cardinal sin, apart from having no Sticky Toffee pudding available was that there was no interest in clearing our dessert dishes away, and these were left in front of us until we vacated the table to pay at the bar. At this time the pub wasn’t busy and staff were more interested in chatting to themselves rather than dealing with diners. Not once throughout our meal were we asked if everything was alright with our good. Maybe they were embarrassed by the about of food left uneaten on everyone’s plates. From their website and meal descriptions it looks like The Chequers is positioning itself as a Gastro pub, but it’s nowhere near to what I’d expect. It’s difficult to pin down an identity for their cuisine, having American, Chinese, Thai, German, English, Mexican, Mediterranean, Japanese, Moroccan and Italian dishes on the menu, but my suspicion is that many of the meals are bought in meals preprepared for catering. I may be wrong here, but that’s how it looks. Overall we thought it was a less than average experience which wouldn’t be difficult to improve with a bit of attention to detail, quality over quantity and better consideration from the serving staff. Oh, and the wi-if was not working 🤷🏻♂️

I hired out there function room July 2024, price was reasonable for what you got, I was able to provide my own food/DJ. As for the so called “staff” half of them did not even work there they were “helping out a friend” so no bar experience at all. Had to ask them to go and buy basic fruit for drinks from Asda as there was none at all. Had to explain what drinks we wanted and what was in them. They were charging us wrong every time we bought a drink, £22 for two Hugo Sprits then £16 for one. When we asked about this they had no explanation. There seemed to be no one in charge of the function, just looked like had no clue what they were doing. The bartender Emily was the one who helped the most (as she was the only one who worked there). Would not recommend to have a function here if you want it run by people who do not know what they are doing.

My wife, 2 children and visiting relatives went to your cafe today. And I was absolutely astounded by the poor service and lack of communication. We arrived at around 10:20 and was seated outside, we had our drinks order taken and breakfast order, but was told the kitchen was quite busy so to expect a slight wait… What we was not told was that the slight wait would turn into not getting our food until gone 11:40. When I got up to ask the young man who was serving how long the breakfast would be, he replied saying they stop serving breakfast at 11:30 not realising we had ordered already he said it shouldn’t be much longer (no apology given for the wait). And even then some of the food was cold, and the bacon my wife had was inedible. Will definitely not be returning
