Very high service charge 13% and food is a little bit too salty for me. Food are okay, but poor value imo. Service wise we get a sense of getting rushed because it's a popular place.

We had dinner on Sunday night and we were sat quite quickly. Overall the food is good, extremely overpriced and they served really tiny portions. I’m giving two stars mainly because of the staff and the service, we got sat at 20.30 and they were really pushy with the timings and constantly reminding that they were closing at 22. We got forced to eat in a hurry as they were cleaning the kitchen and tables and walking around the place with the card machine in hand(they even asked us twice to pay when we already did). We finished dinner by 21.25 and they were forcing our way out making us feel quite uncomfortable. We’ve been in Pizarro and the experience was amazing

Great place. Friendly staff. We were three people. Hadn't reserved, but it all was no big deal. We tried a lot of dishes. Worth going for the Catalina Anchovies. You will not be disappointed.

Our party arrived an hour before close for some after dinner drinks and snacks and were met with a very welcoming staff, delicious snacks of croquetas and squid, and well curated wine list. The sherry selection is a must. Definitely recommend and will be back

You can never go wrong with eating at José and we have been going there for years. The food is delicious and the restaurant is cozy. The staff are kind and helpful. The Jamon Ibèrico, shrimp and pluma are delicious & a must have.

Excellent authentic tapas, short walk from London Bridge station if you’re heading through and after dinner. So glad I found this spot! Service was super excellent and friendly- it’s a tiny restaurant and we had a short wait on a Wednesday evening but we were well cared for during and it was for sure worth it. It’s popular - very loud and tight inside but this wasn’t a problem for us

Came on a Thursday afternoon, although not full the service was nothing to shout about. We asked for vermouth and was given the most expensive option, same with bottled water without giving us choice. Two drinks and small plates came to £50! Some of the other dishes looked good, but it's definitely not worth it if you have to wait for a seat

Amazing meal. The medium rare pork was literally like butter you could cut it with a fork. Hands down the best piece of meat I’ve ever eaten! The chicken was served to us quite raw in the middle by accident but they quickly resolved this - suppose these things happen. However, would really really recommend. Plus the queue was quite big but went down so quickly probably waited 5-10 mins max!!

So simple. So good Some places mess about adding too much of this or that. Jose don't. This is my third visit to one of Jose Pizarro's restaurants, and the original little tapas bar didn't disappoint. Great range of tapas and some slightly larger dishes if you're hungry. Foods are flavourful. Attentive service. Often with queues. They don't accept reservations, 1st come 1st serve basis.

This was my second visit to Jose, and it was just as enjoyable as the first. We were lucky to walk in and get a spot at the bar, where the atmosphere was lively yet relaxed—not too noisy, so you can actually have a conversation while sipping on a glass of red Spanish wine. We started with the salchichón ibérico plate and the croquettes, both of which were delicious, though next time, I think I'll go for the jamón. Watching it freshly sliced right in front of you is quite a display! For mains, we tried the octopus and the cod. Both were perfectly cooked; the octopus tender and smoky and the cod flaky with a distinct garlic flavour that paired beautifully with the wine. I wish I could have stayed longer to try more of these hearty dishes, but our table was only booked for an hour and a half. If you’re planning a visit, I recommend making the most of your time and sampling as many plates as possible. José is definitely worth a visit for a taste of authentic Spanish tapas in a friendly, unpretentious setting.

Sooooooo disappointed after wanting to eat here for ages! Bar Tozino 200 yards away is half the price and twice as good.Food was OK,service was poor.Was expecting so much more unfortunately.

Great tapas! Recommend the pluma Iberica, octopus, sirloin, and padron peppers. Walk-ins only. Can be rather crowded and hard to talk indoors.

No where near as good as it used to be... what a shame! Last time I visited was about 5/6 years ago and it was much better.... now they give you 1.5 hours and then push you out, wine selection not that great and the food was hurried... probably a money making place now. Thank god the company was good...

Had the prawns, pardon peppers, bruschetta iberico and butter beans with mussels. It's a nice casual dining experience with a lively atmosphere. Staff were attentive and everything was lovely and I would happily go again.

Great corner restaurant that’s worth the wait. Arrived at 7pm and waited 20 minutes in line. The octopus, steak and croquettes were our favourites!

We came here for a late lunch after visiting the nearby Fashion and Textile Museum. Food was delicious and there was a good selection of wine. Mid afternoon and it was no longer crowded. We sat inside and had a lovely time.

Worth the reviews and queues. Great spot for tapas around Bermondsey. 20minute wait for a seat (I went solo) though the line went down quickly. Small inside, you are seated close to others. Great menu, quick service, friendly staff. Recommend highly.

Our meal was genuinely 10/10. The food and drinks are fantastic. Service was ok - the restaurant was full in fairness though. It is quite cramped and the tables pushed together, but in my opinion it’s completely worth it for how good the food is. Will definitely be returning

Amazing food, from the iron side to the way it is cooked! Quick service, despite the busy restaurant, yet you don't feel pressured. Fresh and authentic. There are some vegetarian options, albeit limited.

Delicious Jamon Iberico and Octopus with Potato Cream I ever had! Found this place from Bib Gourmand Michelin. There was a queue when we arrived but as I came only with one other person, they gave us a high chair quickly and you simply see the food menu written on the kitchen board. Will definitely recommend this place to anyone loves Spanish food!

We came to José after it was recommended for us. It is a small restaurant located about 10-15 minutes away from the London bridge. There was a que when we arrived but we were seated on a small table in about 30 mins but was located in front of the restaurant. The staff were attentive and kind and gave suggestions for items on the menu. The food was very good with the highlights being the croquettes, cod and the pork! And it coming out quickly as well. All in all a very good experience I would recommend José to anyone looking for Spanish tapas food in the area!

I went there at lunchtime today (Monday / day off work). The food was superb and among the best tapas I’ve ever had. Started with some Patatas Bravas which were nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, nice tomatoey sauce and mayo on top of it. Croquetas were with a hake filling and were delicious. Both washed down with a nice chilled glass of Manzanilla sherry. Then I had prawns with chilli and garlic which had a nice kick and another good seafood dish of clams with garlic and parsley. I had a glass of Albariño which again went really well with the seafood dishes. I would highly recommend this place as the service, quality of ingredients and execution of it was excellent. As this was my first time at Jose Tapas I can now honestly say that this place has a well-deserved reputation. Well done guys!

Really nice tapas spot with a good selection of food and wine. The location is quite small so there's often a wait to get a table and some of the tables are uncomfortably small/cramped (the window seats).

High quality tapas with seats outside, and inside along the bar and a few tables. Very cramped and chaotic but that adds to the atmosphere. Not cheap, but fresh and tasty like grilled sardines.

With outdoor seating going past his latest restaurant (Lolo) Jose is an amazing spot for al fresco lunch with a couple of glasses of cava and a smattering of tapas dish recommendations the clams oh wow the sauce hmmmm

Great food and variety of dishes. The staff are pretty good at recommending and the atmosphere is nice. The place is not very big and expect to queue to sit, but overall it was worth it!

Let’s start with the good. Tasty tapas dishes especially the clams but skip the Octopus with mash. Expensive and tough. Efficient staff but very busy so the personal touch is missing. Don’t come here for a relaxing meal but if you enjoy watching frenetic cooking and service you will enjoy the experience.

Cosy local Spanish tapas - pluma Iberico is freaking amazing - juicy, grilled and flavour packed! Other dishes that stands out for us is the grilled pepper and octopus on potato cream (tender and juicy)! Restaurant gets pretty packed 6pm onwards and table are first come first serve basis. Menu changes daily

Great Spanish restaurant. The menu is short, hanging on the wall. Classic Spanish forge available. Gazpacho is excellent Padron peppers are excellent Salads and hot dishes are also good Service is normal

Over-rated restaurant, so we were very disappointed. The tapas mediocre for the price. Restaurant was cramped and noisy. Squashed onto a wobbly, sticky table too small to hold the tapas dishes. Staff friendly enough but constantly hustling. So definitely not recommended if you are looking to enjoy a relaxed meal with friends. Always happy to pay for a great dining experience, but this one misses the mark by a long shot.

This is not 'Tapeo de Cervantes in Malaga' which I consider to be one of the more authentic tapas restaurants out there. The food was overprized and mediocre at best. Staff friendly but focus on turnover makes the whole experience not very relaxed. On top of that the place is really small which makes you feel as miserable as the sardines they serve!

Most of the food was absolutely delicious, service is a bit slow, which was fine as it's a super busy place with a great atmosphere. Perfect environment to sip on a glass of wine and enjoy your tapas. The pan con tomate, patatas bravas and something with chorizo were table favourites!

If you want a taste of Barcelona in London, then this is for you. It has the buz and cheek by jowl seating that creates that excitement and anticipation of the food that is being prepared before your eyes by the chefs in the small gallery kitchen behind the bar. The food was good and the service was great and friendly. It was a bit expensive and the quality was not as high as I expected but it certainly is a taste of Spain.

It was very small and cramped inside, with customers being squeezed into every nook and cranny. It's a classic tapas bar, but the quality and portion sizes do not justify the price charged. Nevertheless, if you want a Spanish tapas experience and have not had a chance to go to Spain, it's the nearest you will find in London.

Nice location and atmosphere, food was good, might be slightly overpriced. As you don’t have the chance to reserve a table, once you seat you can have it for only 90minutes, which is a shame after you’re paying 19£ tapas and 6£ beer of 330ml. Overall ok.

One of the best tapas spots in London. No reservations so be prepared to queue during peak times, but the line moves reasonably fast. In summer there are seats outside as well. The menu changes regularly but some standouts were the octopus, patatas bravas and rice with squid ink.

It may be nice, but as a single guest you won't even get a table for two. The main thing is that the cash register rings!

Small place that makes the atmosphere cozy but also typical of the tapas shops in the south of Spain! I wouldn’t recommend the patata bravas but the rest of the dishes were very tasty! However, a bit overpriced for tapas.

Avoid. First thing the waiter tells you on arrival, is that you can only stay for 1.5 hours - really? No proper menus - you have to order from a board on the wall BEHIND you, with the waiter unable to explain what the dishes are. Food arrived - burnt to a crisp. Then the clincher - the exorbitant bill for all this aggravation. With so many other great places in Bermondsey Street this one is worth giving a miss; thank me later.

My God, this was excellent. I settled for simple dishes, like the tomatoes on grilled bread and the chicken croquettes. But I wanted to try lots of others such as the black rice and grilled prawns. But I was sadly just by myself and would be picking it.

Superb food, authentic tapas and Spanish selection! Very well priced and a wide selection in the menu. Wines are good as well - overall nothing to complain about. Highly recommend - note that they don’t take reservations, it’s only walk-ins.

Very overrated, the patatas bravas dripped with oil, also the croquettes and the very salty Iberian ham, in quality and price it was not even remotely worth it, on top of that the service charge was very high.

Excellent experience. Very kind and helpful staff, we were served by Bianca, perhaps one of the managers, who advised us in a precise and professional manner. I would say everything was very very good, congratulations to all the staff and thanks Bianca, we will definitely be back.

Food was good but staff were rude - I got told off twice! Once I asked how long the queue was and told basically how long is a piece of string Second time I moved the menu for our neighbours to see easier - “how would you like it if I came to your house and moved the pictures”. Sorry but pure comedy. Never coming back unless absolutely dying for a padron pepper.

Food: - Great tapas - especially the Jamon Iberico, Pluma Iberica, and the Garlic Prawns (star dish). We also had Tortilla, Pan Com Tomate, and Patatas Bravas which were good. - Recommend 3 tapas per person (based on portion sizes) - House wine paired great with everything we had. Service: - Had to line up but it was a short wait for a table. - Staff were helpful with the menu and drinks and were great in general. Atmosphere: - Intimate interior with open kitchen - nice in summer.

Great choice for quick lunch, fantastic choice of wine by the glass and food came quick and all dishes we ate were delicious. Counter table are a little tight but plates were cleared fast. Look forward to visiting again.

Every time we are near Tower Bridge we come here. Our host today Daniel was so welcoming. Every dish was beautifully cooked with amazing flavour. We come from Reading to enjoy this tasty authentic tapas. Could not recommend enough. Looking forward to our next visit.

My favourite restaurant in London. They have a constantly changing menu but the basics (padrons, tomato bread, croquettes) are always on. The best place to sit and people watch while sipping a great wine. I really recommend the pluma.

Went with other half, stepson and partner for an early evening meal. It's a small place, cramped and without frills, but has a tremendous bustling atmosphere where the thing that matters most is the food. We enjoyed an excellent range of tapas, all excellent. Efficient service. Great food, great experience.

Not the best experience of a highly anticipated visit. It was very loud inside at 3 PM Thursday making it hard to order and have a conversation. Octopus was amazing but the rest disappointing. Steak on toast had too much fat and gristly. Potatas Bravas was under seasoned.

Fabulous little cozy place, delicious authentic Spanish food

The staff were helpful, friendly and courteous. The restaurant was bright and attractive. I will definitely go again and try more of the dishes on the menu.

Wasn’t as good as I remember when it first opened

Went again now in May 2024. Excellent food and wine. Garlic and chilli prawns were amazing. Sat through 2 bottles of wine and lots of food. Service was exemplary as always. Had a very nice alavariniho with the lunch. Will keep coming back for the vibe, food and wine.

Met a friend for evening drinks and bites at Jose on 16th May - sitting outside. We started with a cocktail and then ordered 3 plates of tapas each with a bottle of wine. Eventually spent £76 each. The serving staff were not happy that we didn't order food immediately and it seems we weren't spending enough for them. We were constantly badgered by during out cocktail to order food. When we asked the guy taking the wine order about some of the wines on the wine list we kept being recommended most expensive wines at the bottom of the list (even though we didn't ask about those). We weren't allowed finish our bottle of wine in peace but were effectively told we had to move on (we has been there less then 2 hours). I have previously been to Jose years ago and liked the relaxed vibe at that time. I will never go there again after the experience this week. If I want to endure being rushed and treated like something to turnover and upsell asap by irritable staff I will go to Leicester Sq or Covent Garden. Shame about what Jose what it has now become ...

The food didn’t taste as great as it did when I visited last year, food was also too salty. I found me and my friend both experienced upset tummies that evening and following morning. For the wait time and the upset tummies I don’t think it’s worth a visit anymore

Popped in randomly with my gf for a Spanish style snack with a glass of vino. Lovely Patatas bravas and on a sunny day makes you feel like you're on a Barcelona back street Would recommend!

I have to drop one star from my original review as I find that this place has lost some of its charme. Service is not friendly and a bit indifferent. The quality of the food is not top notch. The jamon carving skills are poor.

Great tapas and excellent selection of wines. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. The beetroot, blue cheese and walnut salad was delicious as was the garlic prawns.

Very nice, the sunshine certainly helped. It is a bit pricey, but the garlic chilli prawns were the best I've tasted in the UK.

Food here was amazing except a human hair was found in the mussels which I approached the waitress very quietly about as I didn’t want to make it a big deal, she took the plate away and the manager came back and said “Lucky for you, none of our chefs have blonde hair”, which doesn’t help as there was still hair found in the food no matter who’s it was. Staff came across very rude and not attentive at all, three separate people dealt with this problem and not one apology was said. At the end, they still wanted us to pay for the mussels and I had to ask to take it off, again still no apology as if it was our fault. A real shame as I would have visited again.

This place is always busy for a reason: the food is great. We've been well received and food came very quickly. As this is a tapas restaurant they served us from the cold quick bites to the hot lemon sole, which they gave us suggestions on getting bread to better enjoy its sauce. They have a good selection of drinks and the ambience is like of a tapas bar, so don't expect sofas or large seats. Although it is bit crowded and loud, this is vibe the restaurant intended to bring - the good thing is that you can still talk to your mates without issues, so well done to the acoustics. Get the lemon sole, goat cheese, chorizo, croquetas... Everything was delicious.
