Ordered food and waited an eternity for it. Cutlery was filthy, so asked for more. They brought new from out of dishwasher. It was disgusting, food still caked onto it. Eventually got clean cutlery. Food finally arrived. I had ordered the mushroom and chestnut pie, as I'm vegetarian. Bit into it, and it was meat!! They have young staff working who haven't a clue what they are doing. Got my meal refunded and left. Won't be going back

Absolute disgrace and no respect from John Lewis delivery drivers. The delivery driver didn't remove his shoes, it was raining on the day and with it being a new house, it's a construction site outside the house. He trailed all the way from the front to back of house leaving dirt and marking my new LVT flooring. I was going to order a mattress from John Lewis but definitely will not now, I'm not having there delivery driver walking on cream carpets with there shoes on.

Took some trainers back as they were coming away at the back. I had had them for just under a year and unfortunately the assistant said that as they were just under a year old there was nothing to be done. I was unhappy with this as John Lewis also refused to send them back to the manufacture for their opinion. The trainers manufacture was Superga and as John Lewis sells that make I would expect the quality to be good ..which didn't happen in this case.

Today I visited the ladies department and had excellent advice and service from Lesley. It’s refreshing to find assistants who go out of their way to help find items and advise customers on the right items to suit them. Also thank you to the lady on the changing rooms who went to find the correct underwear which would not show through the light coloured item I tried on. Very happy with my purchases today.

Fantastic shop. Baught a set of expensive headphones from here recently. I could of got them almost £20 cheaper in other shops. But I would not have had the quality of customer service nor the help nor the aftersales support nor the great service overall. Id rather pay the extra for the fact its John Lewis. The Guy that suppoerted me and helped me choose a good pair of headphones was amazing. In a world of getting things as cheap as possible these days. Sometimes paying a few extra pounds results in a better expererience. Great service

I took my elderly parents into John Lewis Newcastle where they have been shopping for 60 years. They went in to order some fabric for curtains. The first problem started there because the computer wasn’t working properly Anyway, they eventually got it working. To cut a long story short, we got the Email through to say the order had gone through 2 weeks later and another one would be sent through for paying the full amount. I was just about to pay when another Email came through saying the fabric was discontinued. I immediately rang John Lewis and spoke to a young female working from home. I was told that I had to take them back into town to choose some more fabric. After explaining that they are 82 and have difficulty getting around, she said that there was nothing else they could really do. I then told her that if I took them into town again to pick some more, order it and then wait for the order to come through, only to be told that those curtains were discontinued. So we would have to repeat the process again. John Lewis used to be the place to go for getting goods but not now…John Lewis have now lost the sale, they will be going somewhere else for the fabric. As a company who are struggling to stay afloat, they do not help themselves.

It's very sad that Waitrose closed in Newcastle. My personal opinion is that it should have been integrated into the bottom floor of John Lewis, like their competitors. Fenwick...food and drink sales on bottom floor. M & S....food and drink on the bottom floor. John Lewis... just lost of cutlery, glasses, pots and pans. Dyson vacuum's which are down the pan!! Downsize the other departments... ground floor up ... its not rocket science... I believe it would be very popular and profitable 🤑 Have faith and trust in your brand and workforce.

Disappointing from a personal perspective as I’d worked as part-time agency staff in this store for several happy years… but, when I reported an uncomfortable environment, management gaslighted me and made out it wasn’t an issue at all. A better understanding of autism is needed.

We only called in because I had free hot drinks for two on my JL app. Large queue as we walked in and assistant advised everyone to move to hot food counter if all we wanted was a drink, but we wanted cakes, so stayed in the queue. Two assistants, one on barista and one taking payments, very slow service. I’d ordered oat milk drink but was served cows milk, so even more time to wait while new drink prepared, and queue grew longer. Although the staff were pleasant they had difficulty serving customers quickly. In my opinion, the first counter on entering the restaurant isn’t big enough to serve all customers quickly, which has a knock on effect and slows the process down.

I have never been in a John Lewis...... i took my mother looking for wedding dress for mother of the bride. Walking in i have never been so impressed. The staff arnt on you the second you walk in which is good thing but when you do need them they are always handy. Every single one of them was smiling and friendly. Couldnt do enough for you !!! I hope the manager reads this.... Sandra in your perfume department is one of your best assets in this store. So knowledgeable about all your ranges and really helpful! Will definitely be coming back to see Sandra for my future purchases! Oh and your food in there was brilliant! Fresh clean and well presented!

I visited John Lewis on 16th May, in the Beauty department, I was approached by Lynne Cowen, 24.7 agency (GHD) it was about hair care products. She was very approachable, very educated on hair care products so I was defo ask for Lynne. The product she recommended (not tried herself) but from someone else was the Quai range, I decided on the hair gloss. Lynne did ask me to let her know about this product, I personally can't really see a difference in my hair using this product and when using my straighteners to curl my hair it is harder to pull the straighteners and leaves lines in my hair, so I would recommend using hair straighteners to curl your hair with this product. with a curling wand it would be much better but overall the product isn't anything special in my humble opinion.

So disappointed with John Lewis I wanted to purchase a mattress and after spending a considerable amount of time and being guided by the assistant we decided on a British Cotswold 19000 it was £2639.20 that included 20% discount I also wanted to pay over 12 months interest free as advertised on website, the mattress was not in stock when the assistant checked however said it wasn’t a problem and continued with paperwork giving me a number to ring when I was home to arrange interest free this is where it all fell apart, I was informed I could not do interest free and get 20% off as it’s 2 concessions , this was not the case as stated on website however the mattress not being in stock became the issue, 3 phone calls to customer service, trying to get a resolution being told different things each time, eventually a manager from John Lewis Newcastle branch phoned , they were apparently unaware that you could not order an item if it’s not in stock with interest free , therefore no mattress , I could pay full price an extra £600 to buy it end of April when back in stock , or look for further discount in the future !! I have spent several hours picking my mattress then trying to actually secure mattress to no avail I will not be taking the managers advice and look to purchase again in the future or anytime !! Very unhappy ex customer !!

Absolutely disappointed with after sales we have recieved from John lewis . Purchased a television from them which supposedly included a 5 year warranty ! Television has broken within the so called warranty period and can’t be fixed , John Lewis also can’t replace the television with the same model , you would think you would get a full refund with it being in the warranty period however that is not the case we have been offered an e-voucher for less than we paid for the television and all they say it’s a fair offer , unsure how it is fair when the television broke within the warranty period ! The last tv or any other electrical items I will buy from them will definitely purchase from a competitor!

Really disappointed, having visited the store to buy a birthday present from the technology department. There were few staff available and those who were there weren't knowledgeable. I was told that the store didn't have in stock what I wanted to look at and to order it from the website. I can't see the point of having the store. As I left, on other floors there seemed to be more staff than customers and it felt like I was gatecrashing their party. I went for a drink in the Fenwick store's wine bar across the way, where there was distinctly more life. I then visited Argos and made my purchase there (same price as John Lewis) and brought it home. Having used John Lewis in Newcastle regularly in the past, I wouldn't miss it now if it closed.

Online is a nightmare solving problems. Purchased a special Xmas present for my sister in law. One expensive item was not correctly supplied. To get a refund I had to spend hours inconveniently sending the wrong item back ( my sister in law is a busy nurse ) via Evri ....oh yes that feels likely to succeed My money is being held to ransom by a highwayman. I had to go to Ebay to replace the item as JL was out of stock. I spent several hours talking to various customer service agents who could not solve. I see JL is not what it once was.

What a shambles. My grandma went in to buy a new vaccum cleaner, they didn't have any in stock so the man on the floor said he'd order one for her and that they'd ring when it was available to deliver and she could pay on delivery. That was on the Tuesday. On the Saturday she rang as she hadn't heard anything and the first assistant hung up on her. The second assistant helped her but said the vaccum had onl been reserved for 24 hours and is now gone and there would be nothing until after Christmas. No support for the older generations and she was told if she had an email address this would have been communicated but why couldn't they just tell her the right information in the first place. If I could give 0 starts I would.

Popped into Ori for a quick lunch before catching a matinee performance at the Theatre Royal. Despite NUFC playing at home, with Newcastle being very busy, service was quick and excellent. You'd think for a café as long standing as this one, that an order for a hot chocolate and a coffee would be easy enough. Not so. When I asked for a decaf americano, I was told that 'the machine doesn't do decaf'. Apparently, if you order decaf, regardless of the type of coffee you want, you get a tube sachet. I ordered a 'regular' americano instead. The hot chocolate was more water than milk topped with a frothy scum. The 'americano' was like dish water. Aside the quality of the drinks, the wait is painfully slow - almost as if they weren't expecting customers to come at 11:00 for a coffee. The decor is now tired and drab and the staff (but who knows what's going on behind the scenes) just give the impression that they really don't want to be there. When will I learn not to go there. I guess I always hope for the best. I guess John Lewis doesn't care one bit.

So sad to see a once excellent store which provided excellent customer service reduced to a shambles. I visited the Newcastle store on Thursday 7th September at approx 1.30pm attempting to purchase a washing machine. I was in the store measuring the display models as I am limited by the door to the utility room as to a suitable model. I was the only customer in the the large domestic appliances department and I had to seek a partner for assistance. It felt like I was interrupting them from there work. I then showed the less than enthusiastic assistant the model I wished to purchase and they looked it up n their tablet and promptly advised me it was out of stock. I asked when it would come back into stock and they said they couldn't say. The assistant then said even if it did come back into stock they couldn't guarantee the price. They then showed me another model which I was subsequently was advised was also out of stock. I asked them if they ever sold display models, and they abruptly said they don't. I then asked what the lead time was on delivery for any models in stock and they said it depends... (I am not sure what that means). I had to ask the assist if they would let me know if both models come back into stock, they then said "I could do that online" I said i would prefer if they arranged that for me so they took my email. ... something I would have expected a customer focused partner to proactively offer me. This experience is deeply disappointing, John Lewis Newcastle was always excellent and the shopping experience - made so by their partners. I feel let down and fear this store will close should their customer service not improve, especially as they can't even get the basics right. I then went to Currys at Gateshead and experienced the type of excellent service I once received from John Lewis. What a shame.

It was the worst quality jacket I have ever seen, the edging was frayed the size was way too small it looked like a made in China copy!! I bought myself a laptop afew weeks ago and because I've been really busy decorating my new property hadn't any time to sort out my laptop can I also say that I'm a single parent I called into John Lewis this week to ask for help to transfer photos from my phone to my laptop I was advised by staff at the till to to attend the technical area of the store as they would potentially be able to help me all I wanted help with putting photos on the laptop just to be shown how to achieve what I was hoping for it's an experience laptop so I didn't think there would be an issue it turns out that I would have had to pay £35.00 just to quickly be shown something that is very important to me I left very disappointed I have spent lots of money in John Lewis over the years and only wanted a little help. Not Much To Ask I wouldn't have thought!! Very disappointed

I went to 2nd floor (the tech department) to purchase a pair of Airpods Pro and I also wanted to use a gift card along with my card payment. I was told they couldn't accept the gift card as it is "just an image" and they can only accept a physical one. (It was a One4All gift card, which is used as a debit/credit card on payment. It has a card number, expiry date and security code. Not the regular gift card or voucher you can use. So the card details can be added in the POS after the available amount of money on it was added.) No one at the till could help and I left. I went instead to Argos the next day and they happily helped and explained why the staff didn't know how to do the transaction. They even offered a small voucher too.

I go into town as little as possible to shop, but in the last 18 months, my two visits to Newcastle's John Lewis lingerie department have been second-to-none! The first time, I left M and S after a dismal and fruitless hour of bra-shopping, and decided on the spur of the moment to try John Lewis, a store I never go into. Immediately I was attended to by Julie, who with tremendous care and attention, found 2 bras which fitted so nicely, I was thrilled. Today, I was helped by Yvonne and another assistant in the lingerie department. Even though they were busy, I was made to feel welcome. Yvonne diligently and competently figured out my new size since losing weight, and again I felt very well treated. Many thanks ladies, for another very enjoyable bra-shopping trip. Much appreciated!

We would like to commend partner Neil who met us in the basement at John Lewis and could not have been anymore helpful. We were looking to remove a security tag for an item previously purchased at the Cambridge branch and also wanted to exchange it for a smaller size- a difficult task as it was in a reduced line and further, the Cambridge branch uses a different type of security tag and the Newcastle store did not stock that particular dress. He navigated us through customer services and they could not help us, but he continued to use the internal communications for the John Lewis group to locate the item and organised another store to contact us and arrange delivery. We were really impressed with his level of service and commitment to customer satisfaction. He ought to be given an immediate promotion with the task to sort out the rest of John Lewis’s customer services! Thank you for all your help, Neil.

Their online order delivery service (outsourced to Evri) is truly terrible. On the first delivery attempt the driver arrived almost an hour earlier than the estimated time interval. I came home from work early just so that I could be home for the delivery, but only to find out that the driver had already left. On the second attempt, the driver simply left the package outside the front door and the package was covered in dirt and dust from the construction work at the front.

Then to be refused the sale by a manager that never even showed their face. ‘Never anything sold’ eh folks!! Thank you for the pointless 90 mile round trip 👍

Had a very strange experience here last weekend. I was with a friend looking around and took a photo of one of the kitchens on display as I liked it and wanted to show my partner. The man working in the kitchens area appears and asks if I took a photo, to which I said yes, and he starts demanding that it’s £5 per photo and that I had to pay. I said I will delete the photo and he was still very adamant that I must pay £5 per photo and was asking if I had my card on me. I defended myself by saying there should be signs up, show me to the desk then and get someone else to tell me I have to pay and then his demeanour changed and he said he was joking. At no point did me or my friend think he was joking - he was very adamant and the whole thing was definitely not a joke it was very uncomfortable and confrontational!! We laughed a bit in shock when he said he was joking and then made a quick exit. It was such an uncomfortable experience to be confronted and demanded money from I will not return to that store.

I’m loathe to leave poor reviews but had a bad experience with my family in the 2F coffee/lunch cafeteria next to the Lighting Dep. Visited on the recommendation of a family member who regularly goes for a coffee. I ordered food for my family and an egg sandwich and bowl of pasta for a child both had hairs in. We didn’t finish our lunch and left. £12 wasted and an unhappy experience. As for the rest of Lewises, it’s always very nice and worth visiting.

We ate here because I had a free hot drink & cake reward. Ordered red velvet cake (very good) and Battenberg cake (rather dry) plus 2 hot drinks. Quite busy at 1030am, so a long queue at the first till. Some customers were asked to join the hot food queue if they only wanted drinks & scones. However, I’m not sure the hot food counter staff were ready for the influx of customers, as they looked quite annoyed when customers changed queues.

Dogs? Visited on Saturday and disgusted to see a dog clambering about the cosmetics counters then another urinate all over the floor in the menswear department, the old Barbour clad couple simply walked on with the designer pooch handbag in tow. I know JL cater for the older types but allowing these four legged child substitutes in to the shop is simply unsanitary. I would have complained but the older staff here are very unfriendly, more like are you being served. Electricals are now cheaper online, Fenwick is much more modern and friendly with a great food hall and great customer service. JL obsess increasingly over the more mature customers and it's not welcoming for younger or even middle aged ones. Remember these younger customers are your future which is starting to look precarious in its current outdated form.

Incredibly poor after sales care - avoid this company as they are not what they used to be. Bought 2 bedside tables that were priced £550 each, which were delivered by their own team in a sorry state - legs hanging off and broken draws - and their response was to offer a £50 voucher for the trouble!

Trying to make my mind up between two wedding-guest dresses I popped into the personal styling service, just to ask for advice. There were no appointments available but a lovely lady (I think perhaps called Josta) came to my rescue, gave me advice that saved me making a costly mistake and even advised on hats and lingerie! Great service!

Do not buy curtains at John Lewis. Ordered & paid for in November; JL measured… going to be delivered in January. WE have rung so many times last week- I ordered & husband paid but JL wouldn’t speak to him due to data protection ( utterly OTT!). so many apologies & promises cos they got the measurements wrong so no curtains- WHY HAVE WE HAD TO RING JOHN LEWIS? Why did they not contact us? We couldn’t get through to Newcastle John Lewis and Customer Service told us curtains had no phone anyway (we saw a phone on the desk when we made & paid the order instore) Eventually after I put a complaint review on JL site we got a call- new measurements taken & phonecalls promised by John Lewis re progress but NOTHING - no update and I’ve rehung old curtains. So disappointed. John Lewis is sitting on our money and curtains!

I had 2 pieces of cake as I couldn't choose between them so I let hunger be my guide and it was the wiser choice. Red velvet cake and Earl Grey and something delicious plus a large mokka left me replete and smiling. I wished my mum could have been with me as she would have enjoyed the red velvet very much.

This is a review directed at at the Newcastle store specifically. You NEED to update your directions to your customer collections point on Google maps. Because the current route DOES NOT TAKE YOU THERE! If you have no local knowledge of the city centre you simply cannot find it. AND you run serious risk of fines from Newcastle's over zealous traffic system.

Parmo has so much white sauce I had to scrape half off. The Bombay Kabab meat was absolute fire and could not eat from the spice. Chips were stale. Seems this place no longer cares. Ohh added to all that I found a short black hair in my food and deffo ain't mine as I have long brown hair. Its the 2nd bad meal I have had here now. Best walking further and going to Clayton St chippy.
