Joe's Bakery makes the most delicious, fresh baked goods I ever tasted. They also use Too Good To Go which has been a lifesaver for me and my family helping us a lot with our budget. Plus it feels good knowing the food isn't going to waste.

Both times I’ve been to the smaller shop, I’ve had extremely dry food. I had a pre-made chicken and Mayo baguette and it was so hard and dry, it was job to eat. The filling barely filled it. And then the second time I went and I got an iced bun and that was the driest thing I’ve ever had. It was all crumbly, not nice at all and very disappointed. For a small independent business, I want to give it a chance but at this rate, I won’t be returning .

I'm a regular here and they bread and pasties are always good. They take a card for even a single item which is helpful as don't have cash these days very often. Highly recommend.

Staff member a woman in her fifties, grey hair I think, was very rude to me and expected me to know that only 3 customers are allowed in at a time. She sent me outside very rudely. When I was allowed back in I said to her the sign isn’t in a place where customers can see it (on the front door but the door is propped open so you don’t see it) and she said other people don’t have a problem seeing it and she said there’s 3 separate screened areas, like I should have known that! Then she rushed me to choose what I wanted and was rude when I was asking questions about the cakes. Shouted at me about not being able to hear me due to ambulance going past. Rude attitude and if I could be bothered I would have told her that but I just walked out. Whoever owns this bakery needs to have a word as she’s unbelievably rude and I can see other reviews saying the same!

My partner was going with their niece to hippodrome so we sropped in here for a bite before hand. My first time and I informed the staff I was having a difficult time during to overstimuation (ASD) and they were extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic and i will. E coming again. Thank you Anthony and crew for a wonderful first time experience.

Has so much potential being in this beautiful historic building but is really lacking in atmosphere and the service I received was cold and unfriendly. I ordered a macchiato and it was lukewarm when I got it

Tengo un plato encantador de pescado y patatas fritas. Porción generosa y muy bien cocinada. El personal no podría haber sido más servicial

I recently attended the Basic Ferments and Global Ferments courses run by Rachel De Thample at River Cottage HQ on consecutive days, and both were absolutely fantastic. Rachel is an excellent teacher—knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about fermentation. Each course was packed with information and hands-on opportunities, and I came away with a solid understanding of the techniques, plenty of inspiration, and confidence to try more at home. The sessions were well-structured, with a great balance between learning the science behind fermentation and the practical steps for creating delicious ferments. I especially appreciated the range of recipes we explored, from classic basics to more adventurous global flavors. I’ve brought several ferments home and can’t wait to taste them once they’re ready. These courses have truly transformed how I think about fermented foods, and I’d recommend them to anyone interested in exploring this fascinating and rewarding area of cooking. A big thank you to Rachel and the River Cottage team (including Sean for chauffeuring) for such an enjoyable and educational experience!
