Janata Palace in Cardiff

The food was so good on our first visit (with wife) I thought I have to go back with a few of my mates, food did not disappoint again, not my last visit.

Delivery took 75 minutes, when I’m 10 minutes or less from restaurant. Curry, naans and starter all luke warm. Will say the chicken madras was the nicest I’ve had for a long time - chicken cooked from scratch, sauce delicious & right amount of spiciness, but all had to be reheated. Naans, starters nothing special. Could improve by faster delivery time, and ensuring food arrives hot.

Second night in Cardiff and we thought we would try Janata Palace. We came back on our fourth night in Cardiff; need I say more. The quality of the food and service coupled with the great value for money made this one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever visited. I particularly enjoyed the in depth knowledge of the staff with regard to their dishes, ensuring we knew exactly what we were ordering. Looking forward to the next visit.

We've had our cycling club Christmas meal at the Janata Palace for the last three years. This year we had 48 people, the staff were polite, organised everything efficiently and the food was excellent, as always. Everyone enjoyed the night.

1st time we have been here and it was very good. I personally think it could do with more of the chefs' speciality meals on the menu. The menu in general was comprehensive, and the food was very good. It is well worth a visit.

Great food. One of the best chicken & mushroom biriani's i've had. 2 mates with me said theirs was great too.

Don't tell customers it will be an hour for delivery if its actually well over 2 hours.

Tasty food at a reasonable price. Although service was a little slow it wasn’t a problem. Even the house wine was acceptable.

Just got a takeaway for a treat. We were so looking forward to it. We usually go to red chilli and really wish we had. This was just awful. Really bland food, no heat to it at all. A strong flavour of raw onion with no spices detectable at all. I had chicken and my partner had lamb. The chicken tasted a bit like a disinfectant type flavour and even the rice was odd...very watery and almost sweetish. It was totally inedible and very disappointing.

Picked up our order of lamb tikka bhuna and chicken tikka masala this evening. Writing the review immediately because I’m so wound up. I had the bhuna, and there was NO spice at all. On a medium spice curry, I expect to feel the heat in my mouth after every mouthful. The only thing I felt was disappointment. Like dumping a tin of tomato soup on top of some lamb. What on earth happened? Could’ve made a better curry myself. - and for a lot cheaper! 2 stars because the naan was really good and I respect a good naan. Just a shame we were dipping it in tomato soup Whatever happened I’m assuming it was a blip, because our previous order was fantastic. Sort it out because when a bhuna and a tikka Masala taste the same there’s something wrong.

Over 2 hours for a delivery. If I sat down or collected would it be that long? Terrible service bunch of liars. Minus 1 go to mowgli’s instead. Better service and a better meal.

The service was great. Food absolutely stunning. 8 of us altogether and we all had a lovely meal. Definitely looking forward to going back.

3/5 stars. I ordered a coconut rice, saag bhaji and a chicken tikka bhuna. Food arrived lukewarm/cold. The coconut rice was lovely. The chicken tikka pieces were good quality but the Bhuna sauce was bland and a little oily. The saag bhaji container was half empty so not a very good portion for the price. Not a bad meal, but I won’t reorder and will go back to my usual Indian, the red chilli by Victoria Park instead.

All round great place , it was quiet on our visit but that suited us

In a group of 4 we had a takeaway that included a korma, butter chicken and chicken tikka. Unfortunately they were ok but pretty bland and the paratha was like eating cardboard.

Lovely food but a bit tight on the Keema meat in their bread.

Whether eating in or home delivery, best curry on Cardiff!!! Food is alaayxx as bang on point, in house service always customer orientated and staff dedicated to the best service they can give. Many claim for years that other older curry houses r the best, I say no way!!! Beautiful restaurant. Outstanding service, fantastic food, ur a fool if h don’t give it a try!!!!!

First time ordering. Food arrived earlier than anticipated and was piping hot, really tasty and not greasy. Will definitely order again.

Used this restaurant this evening as our local was shut. It did not disappoint. The food was first class, staff very friendly and listened to out requirements. My curry was made milder and my friends hotter and the both came perfect. The Balti rice was delicious too. We sat chatting for ages and at no time did we feel that we had out stayed our welcome. Will definitely return - and would highly recommend

Best curry house in West Cardiff 😋

Great food, wonderful staff. I have used them for many years to dine in for family birthdays. Quiet place if you like to chat and have conversations. Great menu to choose from and they also do takeaway and delivery. Thanks Janata for the great dining experiences over the years!

We went to celebrate my wife's birthday seven of us sat down to an excellent meal I had a tandoori massala and could not wish for better. The staff were attentive but gave us plenty of time to chat and chose from the menu. if you like Indian food you will enjoy this restaurant. They also do take away and offer a delivery service.

Awful curry - made me regret going there. Did go late for meal but my lamb was grisly and full of ligament and bone, my friends veg curry comprised curry liquid and rice and nothing more (no veg).popadoms were soft and nan bread was raw. Rice was greasy but eatable. Last time I go there - they may have thought I would not care but it was just really disgusting to eat.

Very nice food and good service

Usually a big fan of this place but disappointed with yesterday evening. 5 of us made to sit on a tiny table and all very cramped. Couldn't fit any food on the table and waiter had to put on our plate immediately instead of being put in the middle of the table for us to share...Couldn't even fit the drinks on the table. Spoiled the experience as its off putting everything having to be lumped on your plate.

Staff helpful and friendly, prices about right, meals were was really nice, very pleasant surroundings.

The staff are friendly. Bought takeaway a few times and not had any issues. Neat and tidy eating environment if you fancy some Indian cuisine.

Can't fault their takeaway, very good value, decent amounts, fresh and tasty.

Samosas, Bahai’s, naan, popadums, rice, absolutely perfect. But mains tasty but meat tough. Considering we ordered lamb tikka and chicken tikka meals the meat should have been really tender. But both were tough. Not good. Service: delivery excellent and on time food hot and we appreciated that. But will we order again? No. There are better takeaways in Cardiff.

The curries are the very best that Cardiff has to offer and indeed I have yet to visit anywhere in the UK which prepares better asian food! Lovely place with some lovely food, chicken always tastes fresh and the spice of curries is always perfect. Any problems, these guys will sort it, no trouble at all. Went to collect and left without my poppadoms, then they delivered to the house super quick so I could enjoy them with the meal. Will definitely eat in soon! Thank you for the great meal.

Nicest Indian I have had in ages

I have visited this restaurant on many occasions to dine in and also for take-aways. The first thing you notice is when entering the restaurant is, the warm, friendly greeting from the staff to you. The food has always been very enjoyable (consistently) whether dining or as a take away and the prices are reasonable too. Never had to make any complaints ever. So if you fancy an indian meal in Cardiff, then give this place a try - you won't regret it.

I did eat here many times - food was ok, while on business - Some say Janata serves Islamic halal meat ? NOT sure - I wont eat Halal meat at any place.

We have used the Janata Palace for many years and have always had very good experiences, both eating-in and takeaway. Now in the middle of lockdown we might have expected a lesser experience. However, we have just enjoyed one of our best takeaways ever - absolutely first rate. The mixed tandoori starter was delicious and my chicken dhansak was great, tender chicken in a delicious lentil sauce. My husband’s lamb vindaloo was pronounced to be the tastiest ever and our spinach bhaji was perfect. I had pulaw rice and husband had a pashwari naan bread, both perfectly cooked. Delivery was, as always, reliable and on time. First class service, as ever.

Cannot say enough good things about it. Sag paneer is a must have and the onion bhajis are perfect. My go to indian and so reasonably priced!!!

We went to Janata Palace on Friday night and we were very disappointed with the meals we complained and it took 3 attempts to make the biriyani edible it was very runny and tasteless We used to use the place regularly but since it's been taken over we definitely wont be returning

This has been my go-to spot for a curry since I moved to Cardiff 6 years ago. Excellent food and service whether you are ordering a takeaway or a full meal with friends/family.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a take away from here it was always very impressed with the welcome from the brothers and the quality of the food. However, the visit last weekend to collect my food wasn’t the best to say the least. I found the guy who took my payment rude and dismissive. Got home one of 2 poppadoms had turned brown (i.e. overcooked) the Saag Bhaji was tepid and bland, the main course was disgusting! Literally tasted like mildly spiced oily water! It went into the bin after 2 mouthfuls along with the glupey rice and bland half eaten saag. I will never eat here again which is sad as I’ve been visiting for 20 years at least!!! Sorry boys, you need to up your game! OH, the guy who handed me the food was polite and courteous. The only positive experience of the evening!

Since it’s been taken over we’ve had a number of home deliveries, sorry to say it’s gone down hill big time

Nunca había estado aquí antes, pero escuché buenos informes. Tuvimos una comida para 3 y todos lo disfrutamos. Personal atento pero no demasiado ott. Temperaturas tomadas antes de ingresar y rastrear y rastrear detalles tomados. Se observa un distanciamiento social. Realmente no me puedo quejar del restaurante. Definitivamente volveremos.

We have a long history of frequenting Janata. Recently changed hands, but still produces reliably good food at a reasonable price. The new vendors are polite and helpful.

Food excellent staff welcoming value for money and very relaxing staff dont rush you or dont stand over you can not wait to go again.

Tuvimos una comida para 4 esta noche, todos tenían platos diferentes, todos eran realmente sabrosos, excelente relación calidad-precio (incluso sin comer fuera para ayudar con el descuento, es una buena relación calidad-precio), personal servicial y amable, definitivamente regresaremos y lo recomendamos encarecidamente. Se han implementado medidas de distanciamiento social y desinfección de manos, así como la toma de información para seguimiento y localización.

Realmente muy bueno. Nos detuvimos porque parecía un buen ambiente y quedamos encantados con el resultado. El servicio fue excelente y modificaron mi elección de plato para adaptarse a mí. La comida era deliciosa y el precio igualado. ¡Nos encantó y volveremos!

Fui el miércoles 12 de agosto. Reservé con anticipación pero no estaba demasiado ocupado. Aproveché el trato de EOTHO. Conseguí una gran oferta y la comida era muy buena. No he estado aquí antes porque no soy local y estaba preocupado por una revisión reciente, pero en mi experiencia fue excelente. ¡El personal fue muy útil!

Fui al palacio de janata por mi comida y no reconocí un lenguado, me dijeron que eran las mismas personas pero como llevo más de 43 años yendo allí creo que lo sabría. Bueno, la comida estaba sucia y también el servicio. Pedí comidas para cuatro y todo fue en vano. Ya no iré a ese lugar

Beautiful food, every time - whether its a sit down meal or take away. Staff are so polite and attentive and prices competitive. Kids love it too, “they’re generous with their chocolates”!! 10 out of 10.

Prawn purée to share was good, my mixed tandoori was fine, wife thought her biryani was a little dry. Nice atmosphere lots of pubs nearby. Staff very nice.

Not bad curry, haven't been before but after reading reviews and being local thought I would give it a shout,friendly service but won't be rushing back though as there are far better curry houses in Cardiff

speciall tandoori grill very reasonable and god sized portions and tandoori chicken equalt so with loads of meet. very tasty and great value. very pleasant and effective service and pleasantly busy for a Monday night. Good sign!

Honest opinion! Never order curry I usually cook it but this day I was very busy, fancied a curry but was to late to cook one so I ordered. Was going to order from love curry as I heard it's really nice but as janata palace had so many good reviews I thought I'd take a risk! The saag aloo was nothing like I'd eaten before had to many chunks of onion but was kind of bland, the lamb curry was watery, tasteless and bland the only good thing was it had a decent amount of lamb for the price. The buryani was actually ok not the best but still ok and the salad was a joke it consisted of one huge piece of tomato and cucumber and lettuce that was thrown in a bag. The naan wasnt garlic but the chappattis were good. Sorry but wouldn't order again.
