One of the best south Indian meals (especially chai and masala dosa )we’ve ever had.Masala dosa is very crispy and cooked to perfection . Chicken Biriyani is incredibly unique and bursting with flavours .Excellent hospitality from the owner .Waitress is so polite .I brought an year old with me ,she made a mess however they were quite supportive .Highly recommend this place 😍😍😍FYI-Parking is available the left side road before approaching the restaurant and a parking space on the right inside the private property which belongs to them

The place is reasonably priced compared to the size of the portions. The Gobi manchurian was very nice. Please ask to make it mild because it's a bit extra spicey.. the dosa was big. You can ask for more chutney if you finish before finishing the dosa. I am certainly going again for their idly and see how it is.

Extensive menu with loads of Sri Lankan and Indian options, really different to your ‘standard’ Indian. The masala dosa was incredible, identical to what we had in SL ! Mutton Ceylon curry was really nice if a little spicy, and chicken Kothu was delicious. Service was friendly but a little slow, and restaurant is clean and basic. Really good value which makes a change for eating out at the moment !Highly recommend and would return.

We ordered dosa and idli along with parota. Idli and dosa isn't great taste as it was bit hard but it goes well with sambar after soaking it for few minutes.

The masala dosa was delicious, crispy and flavorful. The devil chicken had the perfect kick, adding excitement to the meal. The chicken kothu porotta stole the show with its amazing taste and unique blend of flavors. Highly recommended!

Colllected a takeaway last night. Starter and side dish missing when we got home. Fish in curry was obviously frozen as it was like eating cardboard. Messaged the restaurant. No response.

I ordered a Poori and Idli These guys have not send me the potato masala with the poori. This was at 3 pm. When contacted they said that they will deliver a potato masala at about 5pm or 5.10pm on the same day. But I have not received the potato masala even at 7.30pm . The girl who answered the phone was so disrespectful she just cut the line, and she says no managers are available, when she said that she will ask a manager about it. She is lying .Later she called from a different number and promised to send it with a few minutes. But I did not receive it .

Such errors are not only inconvenient but also erode the trust customers place in your brand. I demand immediate attention to rectify this situation. I expect a prompt resolution to the issues raised, along with a clear explanation of the steps being taken to prevent such lapses in the future.

Such a terrible food and service i ever had in my life. We ordered prowns noodles , kothu porota and falooda. No aroma and flavour , totally tasteless food. The girl who came for the service showed a long face🥺 The atmosphere was great, calm and pleasant , because nobody else was there in the restaurant other than us.

Wonderful South Indian food (plus Sri Lankan and more familiar North Indian options) at very reasonable prices. My dosa was crisp and tasty with a delicious potato filling. Staff very friendly. This was our first time but won't be our last

They don’t follow simple instructions, I requested for a less oil and crispless dosa but I got exact opposite not properly fried, lot of oil and crispy, which I even had but the main thing is the attitude at which they replied was not acceptable.. we requested to return which they could have politely handled but on the contrary the chef mentions that- “ that’s what they get here,“ which was not told to me when I ordered. Not worth it .. very arrogant in the service and food was not served up to the mark

Food dishes were very tasty and plentiful. Far more authentic than most Indian restaurants. Breads+rice were amazing. Service was excellent. Very friendly and helpful. I asked for their music to be played instead of xmas tunes !! So all in all a great experience and not expensive. Just be warned dishes are a lot hotter than usual curry houses .

Go here for the food which is amazing! Small neighbourhood restaurant with an interesting menu. Last time we went there were quite a few items not available which was a shame eg hoppers and kulfi desserts. Would recommend just for the quality of the food though - I had a mutton curry which was lovely.

If you're looking for a nightmare dining experience, this is the place for you! My partner and I ordered food, and what arrived was a mess. To start with, a curry was missing from our order. When I called to complain, they had the audacity to tell me I'd have to pay for my chips, rice, and chapatti again before they'd deliver it. It wasn't just the additional cost that made my blood boil; by the time the food arrived, it was cold! And as if things couldn't get any worse, when I opened up my chip packet, there was a hair as long as a piece of floss tangled up inside it! Need I say more? Avoid this restaurant at all costs - your stomach and sanity will thank you for it!

Must try place. You get the authentic South Indian flavours. Very clean and tidy. Food served piping hot. The chappathi and the natholli fish fry felt very homely and fresh.

Having been here regularly over the past few months we were keen to introduce our extended family to this restaurant. As always, excellent authentic food at a very reasonable price. Everyone enjoyed and so glad we have a restaurant like this in Cardiff.

We had a wonderful meal at the Banana. The choice is great and includes dishes from Sri Lanka. It was so easy to get a meal that was both gluten free and vegetarian for me. The restaurant was immaculately clean with a cosy feel and had a lovely mural of a waterfall in Sri Lanka. Our server was friendly, polite and helpful and the prices were very reasonable. We have already recommended this restaurant to our family and friends and will return as soon as possible.

There is a good choice of specialty dishes, allowing you to share and sample lots. The food was delicious with generous portion size. The rice was really fluffy! The service was excellent

Our 4th visit to the Banana restaurant in only 4 weeks. It’s becoming a regular of ours. As ever, the choice is extensive and very reasonably priced. The paratha are delicious and accompany the curries very well.

We have ordered sparkling water, they brought tonic ( or something but definitely not sparkling water). It was not in a bottle. I assume that they use Tesco 2 lt bottle drinks. The soup we ordered (rasam) was really bad. It was basically a hot water with spices. It was HORRIBLE. I am really sorry but it was one of the worst food I have tested in my life. Mr owner , please 🙏 do not serve this as a food to people. Rice was under restaurant standard. Curry was alright. Overall very poor quality. Good luck for your business adventure.

worst resturant I've ever been to. terrible food.i order sirlankan chicken curry and butter chicken it all taste same and disgusting it has ofter taste, like its spoiled never again and I had food poisoning as soo as I reach home all day i was vomiting and in toilet .... please concider this as warning before going to eat there....( all round the worst restaurant ever) i won't be surprises if this people even have health and hygiene certified ....

I just had food yesterday from this restaurant. It’s the first time in uk I’m having food poisoning! Idk what they gave me I wasted £61 and spend the rest of the night and day in the toilet ! Just don’t do a business with low quality food standards ! Worst experience ever.

The ambience is great. The food is above average. The service is absolutely great. A good South Indian restaurant with a variety of South Indian dishes and Sri Lankan tastes. Would recommend, especially because of their service.

It was an excellent restaurant. The food was delicious, reasonably priced, and the service was exceptional. They had an extensive menu with a diverse range of options. I tried Methu Vadai, Dal, and Spinach Curry along with vegetable noodles, and I also enjoyed a refreshing Lion beer. I left the restaurant feeling thoroughly satisfied. 10.06.2023

Very authentic keralan / South Indian restaurant - miles away fro the usual turgid oily fair served up in the usual ‘Indians’ in the UK. Think fresh ingredients, curry leaves, mustard seeds, coconut milk. Very generous portions, really kinda cafe informal feel to the place and very nice relaxed staff. We all had various meals, all very good and very reasonable. We will be back.

I've been to Banana a couple of times and I've always had a really nice meal. My latest visit was no exception. I went for the Egg Dosa this time which tasted really nice and fresh. The 3 dips that accompanied the Dosa were also excellent particularly the Sambar. I have to say though the Dosa's must be a foot long. The portions are that generous. I washed my meal down with a very reasonably priced Cobra. Banana is not only excellent value for money but the food tastes great to. They have an extensive menu and Dosa's are just a small part of it.

Went at 8.30 on a Friday night. There was one other table plus myself, so it was quiet. Took ages for the servers to take my order, didn't offer drinks on arrival, then forgot the water I ordered. Food was nice but only had the butter paneer and not sure how authentic it was. I wanted to sample more dishes and have a few drinks and dessert but the servers weren't around the entire time and stood chatting at the bar with friends for an hour. Two of them came over when I'd finished, and left my dirty dishes in front of me. They didn't offer the bill so I got up and paid on the way out. Won't be back.

The service was excellent and the rates were reasonable. The food was nice and not much to complain about. Parking outside the restaurant could be an issue though a residential area is nearby with some open parking .

Third visit to date. Absolutely stunning food - not your run-of-the-mill British curryhouse food. Can't wait for our next visit!

The food was amazing, the service was exceptional, and we had a 3-course meal for £15-a-head - the portions were the perfect size and we left very happy!

Went for dinner with my husband and 3 daughters. Everything was great! Service was excellent and they were so accommodating to my messy 2 year old. We had samosa, dosai, dhal, mushroom rice and steamed rice. It was all absolutely delicious and such good value.

Looking for something different around my native city, I found this relatively new restaurant. It says Sri Lankan and South Indian Restaurant on the sign. Bearing in mind that a whopping 89% of so called Indian restaurants in the U.K. are Bangladeshi, I just had to try. I went early afternoon when I was supposed to be working. Just a table of six were at the far end of the restaurant. I sat near the entrance overlooking North Road. I perused the menu and Salani the server asked if I liked spicy food? My face lit up and my reply was of course. I ordered a parota, coconut rice and a mutton ceylon curry. Just a glass of Welsh water as I was really on the clock. After about fifteen minutes, the meal arrived. Sanali was very warm, friendly and informative. The rice was garnished with bay leaves and was enough for two. I put my nose close to the bowl of curry before serving it. I wanted to take in the aroma and dip the parota into it before plating up. After three dips and tasting the rich tasty sauce, it was time to eat. The mutton was the best I’ve tasted in a long while. Absolutely succulent and melt in your mouth. The flavour was rich and spicy (medium). Blended with coconut, curry leaves, a hint of lime, cinnamon and ginger. I savoured every mouthful and took a short break before continuing. The parota ( alternatively known as flaky ribbon pancake ) was also the perfect accompaniment to the curry. No starter was needed and I certainly didn’t have room for a desert. Sanali was eager to know what I thought of the meal. My Cheshire Cat grin was a give away. I will return in the not so distant future and try another dish. I’d like to see the restaurant at high capacity to get a real feel of the ambiance. The decor is plain and simple. Yellow walls, pine tables and chairs. All clean and evenly spaced like the majority of restaurants that cater this cuisine.

Visited this restaurant with two other couples as this is one of the places where one can get good south Indian food and dosas. It is quite a favourite place with the students as it would appear to be reasonably priced. Food and the Staff were good. However, we made a mistake of ordering the chilli paneer and gobi manchurian which seemed to have similar taste , except the chilli one was chilli hot. The dosas were very good and so was the idli that we ordered. Both of these dishes came with chutney and sambar. And in my opinion the sambar portion could have been of slightly larger size compared to the chutneys. We had to order extra which was chargeable. One word of advice, if going there on a cold day make sure you avoid the drafty side as you enter the door. I would recommend and would visit again and would bear in mind the comments I have made.

Vast choice of south indian food. Limited space and can get full quickly as a lot of students use this restaurant.

Had the chicken 65 and it was amazing , really tasty and was perfect. The staff were really friendly and it was a really nice visit. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for the amazing food and for a great time.

We had delicious Ceylon Mutton Curry, Fried Rice and Paper Dosa for Dinner! Merlot Wine 🍷 was lovely and reasonably priced. Masala Tea is also a must for us. Attentive and friendly Staff. Sri Lankan Lion Larger is also a favourite drink of ours.

Ambience and taste of southern food is too good.

Really lovely, flavoursome food, quickly prepared and easy to collect. I already knew the team here were really friendly (they helped me de-ice my car earlier this year) and this experience was just as good. Will definitely be returning.

An authentic South Indian experience, I had the mango lassi and a cobra beer to drink which was fantastic! Would really recommend this beer. The mutton roll was an amazing starter and the Mutton Biryani was fantastic. Staff was friendly, food was tasty, venue was clean and the prices were worthy of the portion sizes. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone in the mood for proper good Indian food!

Great food! We had takeout but the interior of the restaurant was lovely Tons of vegan options. We especially enjoyed the jeera rice, vegetable fried rice, okra dhal and potato curry. Great if you want something that's a big step up from Indian takeaway. If you like Mowgli's you'll love Banana

Incredible curry! One of the best!! 10/10 would recommend! The aubergine one is great and the parotta is amazing too!!!

Some of the dishes were very good - dried anchovies and disa esp. But the chai and rasam weren't upto scratch. I got the feeling the rasam was made from powder as opposed to the raw ingredients. The welcome was warm as was the heating....

Wow. A fascinating menu, everything delicious, served promptly and with a smile! Portions were generous to a fault. Enjoyed our "leftovers " at home the next day 😋 Excellent value, highly recommended

A return visit and just as good as before. We love Indian food and this was a little different, with options we had not seen before and some more familiar dishes. On recommendation of very helpful waiter we started with milk hopper and mutton rolls, then Chicken kothu parotta for me, chicken biryani for my wife. All were delicious, great balance of spice and really well cooked. What I especially liked was a separate portion of spicy sauce on the side so you could add extra spicy heat if you wanted (which we did !) . Finished with a Sri lankan rice pudding which was more like a drink and pleasantly warming. Add to this great service, a relaxed atmosphere and very reasonable prices. We will definitely be back again!

We visit Banana Restaurant very frequently. Their Food are delicious. Yesterday we had Masala Dosa, Paper Dosa and Ceylon Mutton Curry. Rasam and Masala Tea are also very good! Sri Lankan Lion Larger is very smooth! Very friendly Staff who are helpful!

The Paneer Butter Curry with Parotta and dessert Sri Lanka rice pudding are so tasty thanks to the recommendation of the server! They sell many kinds of curry, so if you visit for the first time and don’t know what to eat, just ask servers. They are kind and hospitable.

I have had a delivery and pick up take away from Banana restaurant. I have tried the Sri Lankan curry and vindaloo and both were absolutely delicious. The lady on the counter was a pleasure to talk to whilst waiting for the food to be cooked. Thanks very much for the food and service. I definitely recommend Banana 100%.

This place is a godsend. This is the best Indian restaurant that I have been to in Cardiff. At really reasonable prices, they are doing the cuisine some justice. We tried porotta, butter chicken and Sri Lankan curry. While the Sri Lankan curry is on the slightly spicier side, the butter chicken could be improved, but hey I'm not really complaining. Seeing porotta that had actual layers made my day. In short, the food is yum and the staff very polite, cheery and helpful. Definitely returning and recommending this place. In short: Great quantity and quality at great price. Has really clean washrooms too.

I telephoned yesterday to order a take away for my husband and I. Since neither of us had tried Sri Lankan food before I had a few questions about the curries and asked if we could be recommended a curry. The lady on the telephone unfortunately did not hold a good command of the English language and explained that she couldn't understand what i wanted. It appeared that she only understood that i was asking for a curry. Since she couldn't understand me we ended up ordering from another restaurant which was a shame, but it really is poor that the front of house staff cannot understand and answer basic questions, this would be a huge concern if I'd been asking questions about allergies etc!

What can I say... the king fish was great and the mango lassi was not too sweet.

The dosa we ordered with our family was poor. The chutney was pure salt extremely dangerous amount to the point I’m still tasting it the next day and the samba was hopeless. The team kindly removed one of the dosa but all 5 was terrible.

5 of us went .Asked top rate lady host to choose our food and we all shared .We'll what a surprise the food was brilliant as was the service . Would recommend it as something different 👌 .

I popped into Banana for a late lunch recently and I really enjoyed myself. I went for the Mysore Masala Dosa which was not only tasty but very large in size. The Dosa came with 3 tasty sides including Samba. Value for money is guaranteed....

This is a hidden gem in Cardiff. Extremely good authentic Sri Lankan curries with plenty of vegetarian options and beautiful sides. The dosas are to die. Generous portions too.

Ok. Service was abysmal and the food was okay. The masala dosa was very good, and if that’s all we’d had, it would have been five stars. But everything else fell short. We had the fried fish starter. Extremely overcooked and dry. Came with an excuse of a salad with no dressing or sauce or anything at all. The paratha and chapati were awful. Thick, chewy, tough. Both completely undercooked. I could make a ball of dough from it if I tried. Mango lassi and sweet lassi both disappointed. They were watered down and had the consistency of milk. The yogurt and water had even separated. The butter chicken, pictured below was not butter chicken. It tasted alright but I would not call it butter chicken, if it was called something else I would be happy with it because it looked and tasted nothing like butter chicken. We also had the aloo gobi and that was very good.

Been going here since it opened and I have to say that we have NEVER been disappointed!! The food is from the Tamil area of India/Sri Lankan so it is a real step up from most of the Bangladeshi/Pakistani food usually served under the ‘guise’...

Staff very helpful and attentive. South Indian Food was authentic but the curries average. Food came in drips and drabs and one dish didn’t arrive until we had finished. No dessert available as it was graduation weeks!!!
