Our 2nd visit here. We returned as we had really enjoyed the first experience. This time we had some traditional favourites and tried a couple of new dishes. We were not disappointed. Food is excellent. Staff are all very friendly and take time to get to know you and make recommendations. Our only disappointment was that it is not our local but we will be back again!!

Food delicious, good portion sizes. As all ways staff are very pleasant and helpful. Collected, they do deliver at a charge and are only taking cash payment.

Just had a takeaway from Shamrat, lovely food, tasty, piping hot and delivered with a smile. What more can you ask for?. Would highly recommend.

Poor service…. it took very long for the starters to be served, the plates from the starters were not cleared away, but left on the tables until the main course had been eaten …. I bought half a pint of black currant and soda - hardly any fizz in the soda, the drink was not cold, it was flat and tasteless- and I was charged £2.95 for it! Never again.

Really Horrible food. Chicken tikka masala tasted liked a desert. Don't waste your money if you are looking for Indian food.

Always a lovely warm atmosphere and the staff are welcoming and friendly. The food is always constantly great and flavoursome. It is a great takeaway and great to stay and eat in, a real hidden GEM.

Our first time here. Having been several Indian restaurants in Cardiff so far it would say this one is the best. Spacious, foods are delicious and the service was impressive. Prices may not be competitive enough (based on this location) but it’s worth to return and definitely will do so. Last but not least, it is easy to imagine how popular this restaurant is in this area from the take away orders we spotted during the 1.5 hours dinner.

Takeaway, great food and service.

Terrible food rice swimming in water, nan bread swimming in oil, no salad with starters and mint sauce was like mint sauce you put on a roast dinner small portions too, had a chicken madras curry there was plenty of chicken but not enough sauce, nearly £50 for a take away meal for 2 absolute rip off too 🤬

Just called to order a takeaway. Cash only. Why? Cancelled order on principle. There’s only one reason why establishments only take cash. Previously collected takeaway from here - last year. Strangely, they were having problems with payments and only able to accept cash then….. Very disappointing as the food is usually very good

Probably rhe best Indian restaurant in cardiff, with a great menu selection. I have had some brilliant meals here and delivered,which also caters for the vegetarians in the family. The staff are great and will make sure you enjoy your experience. So if you are looking for one of the best Indian restaurants in cardiff then I would honestly say try the Shamrat restaurant you won't be disappointed.

Food was outstanding, very tasty, and plenty of it. Disappointed that we were outside of the delivery area Was a phone order, answered quickly, ready to collect within 30 minutes . Was a fair bit of water on the plate from the tikka masala .

Went there Saturday 29th april for a takeaway, the place looks spotless , the service was good although it was quiet at 9.00 pm. The meal was most probably the best I have tasted in Cardiff, chicken was well cooked and large pieces in both meals , I would recommend this curry house to everybody. Pros: Ok curry (heat aside)- looked clean inside. Cons: only take cash- had to travel twenty minutes to ATM and curry cold by time got back. They weren’t prepared to accept card. Get with the times guys!

I collected our food which was still hot when l dished up our food. It's a traditional Indian restaurant, very comfortably furnished, very tasty, very filling food. It was lovely.

Recently moved to Marshfield and heard about this restaurant from a relative who lives close by and highly recommended it so thought we would give it a try, so pleased we did the food is stunning the staff are so friendly definitely the best takeaway we have had so pleased to have found this little gem.

Both takeaway and eat in are always top notch. The guys there are so nice and friendly. They have amazing food and it’s fairly priced. Biggest top is to order the naan bread. It’s so huge and fluffy and the garlic one is to die for!

Highly rated place , with mixed blessings. Completely empty on a mid week visit , but it was January. First impressions was that it was cold inside. Bless. The energy crisis is hitting hard. But manageable. Decor is not overly fancy , nor the plain white plates. Waiters looked smart in black. Service was friendly. No hot drinks though ( coffee jug behind the bar sat staring at me ) and I could not drink chiiled stuff when it was six degrees. Music was interesting. Started off as traditional Asian with s singer but later became a trendy modern pop synth. The best of all was the food. REALLY good quality. Large portions. Very tasty. My captain special was lamb in a tamarind sauce. Very tasty. Lemon rice was lemony , peshwari naan soft and tasty. I really reccomend the place.

Ordered a £60 ish meal and all the meals were not labelled so there was no idea to know what curry was what

Stunning food. What a find. We had korma, dhansak and dopiaza. All were absolutely fantastic.

I'll give this place 10 out of 10 for ther food nice and tasty but the only thing if you go in the winter make sure you wear a hat,scarf coat bloody cold in ther no heating on brrrrrrr

I ordered take out chicken tikka and it was awful. It tasted very sweet ( too much sugar) to the extent that it was inedible. Also added too much red food colouring the chicken pieces were dyed red. Apart from the sweet taste and red colour , no flavour whatsoever. It went into the rubbish pin after one bite. Total waste of time and money.

We visited friends in the area and were told about the great food in this restaurant. Indeed the food was great, well cooked,tasty and hot. The only problem, which is a complete No for me was that the waiter in holding certain dishes had his thumb in the food. That’s never good and of that hadn’t been so, I would have given 5*. I’m sure a simple cloth over the hand would solve that problem. I paid by card, which was better, as my friend said they often ask to pay in cash , which I also had. Would go again when I am in the area - if they sort the thumb in dishes.

We've had food from here about 5 times in the past 6 months and we've been really impressed every time. We sat in the restaurant once and the waiters were very attentive and friendly. The other times we've had take away (delivery once) and don't have any complaints about any of the food. Lamb biryani was the best I've had and the curries have always been delicious. Good price too, we spent £32 tonight for 4 people (1 big starter, 4 mains and a rice) and it was plenty for dinner! Even have left overs. A lovely place to eat and we're grateful as it's the only real restaurant in our part of St Mellons and walking distance from our house

It has everything from the minute you call - Polite staff, friendly mannered, cater for all, great service, freshest of food AND to top it off - fast delivery. And if you sit inside (done both regularly). You are greeted with the warmest of welcome, staff remember faces, names, orders. Service is impeccable, normally the two staff. The one especially is a credit to the place as he has always been polite and friendly. Visited a few times and not once needed to complain, which is unusual when eating out, in general, there can be one thing. I have never found anything to complain about! When ordering/eating out i believe the staff play the biggest role. And here, they generally want what is best for the customers and will go above and beyond to a customers needs. Thank you for your tremendous hospitality yesterday, today and for the near future :)

This was a takeaway, the food was ok, even good, and plentiful, but ut’s really irritating that they don’t take credit/debit cards for takeaway food even though they obviously have the machines. Wake up Shamrat, this is the 21sr century.

We have supported The Shamrat through covid. Take aways and eating in, when we were allowed. The service and the food have always been faultless. Started going here years ago and now the grandchildren are old enough to come with us.

A group of us went there to celebrate my daughter's confirmation. First time dine in for a couple of years. Food was great as always. Staff are very friendly and looked after us well. Really enjoyed the evening in great company and convivial atmosphere.

Very welcoming and friendly staff. We had a table for 28 people booked tonight . The food was really nice and very tasty. The house desert which is available on request for 20 +guest was a great way to end the evening. We all had a very pleasant evening... Thank you every one at Shamraat restaurant.

If I could give 6 stars I would. The food, the service, the presentation of food is second to none. The staff are warm and friendly, and go out of their way to accommodate everybody. The food is always so good and consistent. I normally find some negative eating out. NOT HERE... 100% POSITIVE.

Always a warm friendly atmosphere, even during lockdown, this is our local Indian restaurant and takeaway, but to be honest, we wouldn't go anywhere else! The food is always perfectly cooked and presented, even my father who was born in India said " best Indian cuisine " he has tasted in Britain!! This family owned and run restaurant is spot on in every way. The family always have time for their customers, and genuinely care about us. You cannot ask for more. Please support them during lockdown

There were 6 of us including two children so we ordered the £49.95 house special for 4 people over the telephone. There was a great selection of food including poppadoms, dips, chicken tikka, kebab's, piliau rice and naan bread plus a choice of 4 main dishes (excluding prawns). We chose chicken Korma, lamb Bhuna, chicken Rogan Josh and chicken Pathia. As well as the house special we also ordered 3 portions of chips. The food was ready within about 20 minutes and was delicious made with lots of fresh flavours and ingredients. The portion sizes were good and there was plenty for everyone with lots of left overs. I would definitely recommend a visit. As well as the takeaway service there is a fantastic restaurant which is great for all occasions.

Another great meal yesterday, but no surprise in that. I’ve been a regular customer here for many years, and it’s a fantastic restaurant - always great food and great service from the team lead by Omar.

This is St Mellon's greatest secret. You would never expect such a tasty little Indian in the back end of St Mellons where there is nothing else. Seriously it beats anything Roath and Canton have to offer. Always tasty, always friendly, large portions. Gorgeous.

We have been customers since the Shamrat opened and have always highly rated the food. Both eating in and takeaway, the standard of food and service are excellent. On the odd occasion that we have ordered from another indian restaurant, we always regret it and wish we had got a shamrat! Delicious food at a great price. Dont let the unusual location/outward appearance put you off.

2 hour wait on food. Booked 2 weeks ago. They did take away before servicing us. Very bad experience.

Excellent indian restaurant/takeaway , couldn't fault any of our order everything we ordered was very very tasty and looked really nice , the Garlic Naan deserves a special mention as it was the best tasting Naan we've had anywhere.......great place, plenty of parking...is worth ordering by phone as it is very busy...which shows how good it is👍👍

Ignore the setting, it's worth going in for the food. Friendly welcome, nice spacious room and a menu with some unusual items on there. Portions are good sized and packed with flavour. Next time we are in the are we'll definitely be back.
