Really amazing food and prices! perfect lunch

Always the friendliest staff, beautiful tasting food which is very good value for money and it’s all for a good cause. A lovely place to sit, relax and have a beautiful curry. I keep coming back again and again!

The employees are so friendly and polite. The food came out quickly and it was so delicious. It was very affordable and we greatly appreciate their mission. I highly recommend the Atma Lounge!

Amazing semi-Indian traditional atmosphere , the people are the sweetest in the world! Definitely try the curry dal rice, the large thali, the methi parathas, the mango lassi, the cakes, and the wraps by Kelvin!

This is a wonderful place. Whenever I go to queen street, This is where I have my lunch. The staff are friendly and great. The food is delicious. The atmosphere of this place is peaceful. I don't make reviews too often but I really feel like I had to for this place. It's really a shame I walked past it so many times as the food is very tasty, a good size portion and really good value for money. Need to make sure I come again

Welcoming atmosphere to have some fair vegan delicious food.

The food served here is absolutely divine. Since the cafe is run by ISCON temple, the food served is Satvik which is without onion and garlic. If you need to eat homely food, a must visit place at the heart of Cardiff city centre. Also, the prices are absolutely reasonable. A wholesome meal would be very much within the budget. They also serve free meals to the needy people.

My wife and I have been here a few times, it used to be our go to place for food in Cardiff due to it being plant based, tasty, and good portions. Last time we went, they had changed the menu and now had the thali in size order. We ordered the large as it came with samosas, bhaji etc. When we got it the portion was a lot smaller than that it used to be (rice was half the amount), plus we never received the samosas or bhaji, instead, 2 small fried potato things with we didn't like. We wouldn't mind if we were told that there would have to be a substitute as they were out, but they weren't, there were samosas in the cabinet. The food is still nice but it is now pretty average for the price so there is no draw to keep us coming back unfortunately.

Really delicious food, friendly atmosphere and plenty of space where you can sit and chat to friends. They do great work in supporting the homeless too. I would definitely recommend it!!

A real jewel at the quieter end of Queen Street. Great food and a lovely vibe. A terrific place to feed yourself well at a reasonable price but also a place where you can sit back and chat or chill over a cup of tea. Deleted previous review because theyre constantly looking to get better and had solved a few teething issues. Awesome place.

I had a very negative experience at a happiness talk with a monk who I felt was very insensitive to anyone with mental health issues. It was an incredibly gloomy and negative experience, which I don’t feel anyone enjoyed. A happiness talk should be uplifting. As a reaction to the talk I experienced a psychotic episode because of how unwelcome I felt. I feel that atma lounge is a great charity, and has provided a good space that is relaxing, with good values and ethos. Every other talk was fairly good, but I don’t think monks should make statements about scientific knowledge as non experts. The chanting has been a good process which has helped me, however.

Such a gorgeous place to eat and relax. The vegan food is always up to a high standard, topped off with absolutely lovely staff. Their ethos is really amazing too so you know you’re money is going to a good place. Highly recommend.

My friend got a free meals voucher from the library we went there today, and she got asked so many questions in order to random the free meal and only have two options for take out only even the table was empty doesn’t seem the staff were friendly we felt so embarrassed, the experience we had today doesn’t seem they are charitable incorporated organisation.We took the meals but we didn’t eat It my friend gave it for the seagulls on the street at the end.Never go there again!

Wonderful vegan place to support in Cardiff. We had the very decadent vegan chocolate chip cookies and even more decadent vegan hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. They have really cheap vegan Indian food, like £3 curry and rice which is just amazing, but sadly didn’t get to try. Next time! I love that they also donate free meals to those who need them. Wonderful atmosphere.

Fantastic little vegan treat. I stumbled upon this restaurant while wandering around Cardiff. Yeah had the Curry, Daal and Rice washed down with a lovely Egyptian mint tea. Absolutely delicious! … and the bill came to £5.50. This was combined with a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Its inside Capitol Shopping Centre mall. It's not only a restaurant but a place where we get different vibes, we reflect upon few things seeing the atmosphere along with ofcourse consuming a tasty meal. The price you have to pay for a such a delicious and variety of food served in thali is very less. Everything is home made. They even give you a card with which you can get a complementery desertt like Mango lassi etc on se fixed number of visits. The waiters are not actually waiters, they are volunteers who work for a good cause. Spreading a good word around helping people in Cardiff. There were British women in Indian attire serving food politely and asking if its good. There were various leaflets which tells us the mission of this lounge and the state of wellbeing of underpriviliged people in cardiff and their needs. About, how we can also volunteer in our free time and help them. This place is usually busy due to low price of thaalis and the quality so plan well to avoid disappointment. I went their alone so they could accommodate me easily.

Fantastic vegan cafe. Prices are incredible, ambience/music is lovely, staff are really friendly. The food is fresh, tasty and ultimately awesome. There isn't a great variety of choice, but they know how to cook what m's on the menu. Went multiple times and got the thali first and then the kofta wrap. Undoubtedly this'd be a regular if I lived in Cardiff.

I visit Atma quite frequently now, though I always forget to use my loyalty card 🤣. Recently I’ve been for lunch with friends and for breakfast and lunch with my child and we’ve had amazing food every time. The Chai tea, lassis and milkshakes are all fantastic and the staff and amazing

Amazing calm, serene ambience serving delicious vegan food at great value - tasted fresh and very homely. Menu: Was impressed at the choice of lassi and milkshakes (more than any restaurant I've been to, incl non-vegan). Bakery section all looked tasty and it was hard to choose! The thali option looked great but we were only making a short stop. Order: We visited for a quick-ish lunch and ordered the blueberry lassi, strawberry milkshake, 2 kofta wraps and a chocolate tiffin. All for £20. Absolutely delicious and would come here every time I visit Cardiff from now! Set-up: The restaurant has tables on one side and sofas on the other, with the desk and mini-shop in the middle, selling food, spices, incense, books, clothes. They played meditation music. A range of wellbeing and spiritual books - we bought a book called 'Hiding in Unnatural Happiness'. Thank you! Highly recommend this place to all!

Atma has become one of my favourite lunch spots in the city. Its menu offers simple but delicious staples of Indian cuisine, with a variety of curries, dals, wraps and thali, and there are takeaway options. Plus, it's a charity that helps feed others, so it's all in a good cause. In a city centre full of overpriced and busy fast food outlets and chains, Atma is an affordable and friendly oasis of calm.

After checking out The Happy Cow website, we visited this cafe/restaurant twice during our stay in Cardiff. The peaceful atmosphere was a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The wraps, curry, rice and chapati were delicious and the mango lassi was excellent. It was a relief to find somewhere serving nutritious, inexpensive vegan food. Next time we’re in Cardiff we’ll be back!

Healthy, delicious and spiritually nutritious. Friendly atmosphere, brilliant Indian style food mainly. Besides the good food they sell books on ancient spiritual knowledge, jewelry that fits the vibe, a few environmentally friendly daily essentials like plastic free soap etc. and more. They also do different spiritual programs.

This review was created due to our being able to finally enjoy a proper beautifully flavoured meal in a calm and relaxed environment. If you are Lover of peaceful calm but with a lovely happy atmosphere and incredibly Fresh Flavourful Aromatic Food this is the place for you. Our Chef was wonderful and definitely knew his food spices and flavours. We had the Ahimsa Supersoul Special, Spinach, potato & pea curry with handmade ahimsa paneer, creamy yellow mung dal, basmati rice and leafy greens with crunchy cauliflower - all lovingly made by the monk and it showed it was delicious heavenly. All I could do was go ohh,AHH ,mmm you get the gist. I cannot recommend this place enough , being Gluten free, it is so hard to find Fresh food, with flavours that will make you remember them. To be honest before Atma we used to go buy our own at Tesco express, and take it to our hotel room ,make our own meal. I know it sounds crazy over the top but it's not. Not paying for what I call processed ping, ping food with little to no flavour, sadly most places are like that now and will not cook to order. At Atma we watched our Chef cook our food and the smell was incredible, the taste exquisite, and the atmosphere calm but joyful,nice low background subtle music, no screaming, laughing was at a natural giggling, a good nice level. It was quite an experience after the bustle, and loudness of the town. I was in heaven,and felt as if I had been replenished body and mind. Thank You to All at Atma we will definitely be back, keep safe all Namaste.

Recommended by a vegan barrista in one of the local coffee shops ( we were looking for vegy/vegan food). We would highly recommend Atma, and will return soon, really good food, relaxed atmosphere. The only thing I would say, is that a customer hand washing sink would be a good idea, I appreciate that there are toilets in the shopping centre, but all we wanted was somewhere to sanitize our hands before eating. Excellent value for money

Eating in Cardiff is not usually a soothing experience, all noise and rush. Not Atma, the music sets the tone....not sure but I guess from Indian subcontinent. The food is really fresh, and excellent value. It is in the Capitol centre so easy to find.

went for lunch today, before my friend arrived I asked one of the girls for a recommendation, she gave me a really nice outline of the best dishes.. i went with her pick..The Mexican... a spices lentil burger with jalapeños and a tasty side salad. It was delicious, my non vegan friend loved her burger too. A little piece of tranquillity and peace in the madness of the city centre. A lovely place to eat, happy enthusiastic staff and great food. I brought Mrs Wroe along for her first visit and Cafe Atma has become her favourite eating place! I had a delicious Bhakti and she had a Mexican Maha burger. Mrs Wroe is allergic to onions so was hugely relieved that there are no onions or garlic used in their dishes. Enjoyed so much, she took a take out dal for lunch tomorrow, and we are going back on Thursday to continue through the menu!

It was very busy, obviously very popular and no wonder why - gorgeous food at great prices . It is a spacious, clean, gem in a fairly quite less crazy Capitol mall in Cardiff city . The food is made with love and devotion for sure - you can taste it . The staff are lovely and friendly . I had Vegan veg dish , rice and dahl for 5.50 pounds and it was delicious . My son said his super vegan burger was the best he had ever experienced - praise indeed. They have lots of spiritual workshops and talks there creating a nice community feel . It is non profit and it is so refreshing to know there is a place where people can go to have a peaceful atmosphere to eat lovely veggie food at such good prices . Well done and good luck. Opens 12 til 6 pm so can have early super , lunch , brunch and great cakes for tea.

This is a difficult review for me - I'm not a veggie at all, and don't really like most veg. But I was with a veggie and paying her back for going to a steakhouse the night before. My review should be read with this in mind.The burger option I chose (best of a very poor list for me) was absolutely tasteless. The only thing I enjoyed was the salad.Having said that, my partner really enjoyed her veggie option (a sort of curry) and was raving about it. She did agree with me that my option was tasteless though, so not a great restaurant, even for a veggie. Most people did seem to enjoy their choices though, so maybe I just made a very poor choice.So, on average, call it average, but don't take a meat eater here to introduce them to a veggie diet - I have been to much, much better veggie restaurants for that.

Amazing food, especially if you are vegetarian or vegan. They are happy to discuss with you exactly what is in each dish and find what's best for your tastes, without you feeling at all judged. I had their trio of vegetable curry, dhal and rice and it was delicious. I could have eaten more, but it was enough to satisfy for a lunch. The menu selection was outstanding and the prices very good value. Thoroughly recommend and would definitely go back.

I went to this restaurant following a friend’s advice and I must say that it was a fantastic choice.

If you are a vegan and would like to try a not so typical Indian food, this is the place to go. I went there by peer pressure and was sceptical about it. Had dhaal and rice but when I receive my food, it was not the typical dhaal curry but still tasted great. Food wise it was good but the service was not so great. The girl was pretty passive and was just talking to a dude all the time without any checking up on customers.

Really tasty and soleful food, I have the chilli paneer wrap. Even the side salad had thought put into it. Loved it and would recommend to anyone.

A very friendly welcome, one of the staff took us through the menu which was helpful and also explained the ordering arrangements (diners get given a number for their order to be collected later from the counter) which worked well. The food was delicious. Peter had an inexpensive, ever-so-tasty curry (not too much and not too little) and Carole had a superb wrap. We also enjoyed our bottled soft drinks - Carole had a cucumber and mint pressé which she let me sip! - and the cakes afterwards.

I love this place (usually), but have just returned from a very disappointing visit. As usual, the food was excellent, but the girl behind the til really upset me, swearing (in front of me) about another customer, then telling me 'i just can't think right now'. Obviously she was stressed (Although it wasn't particularly busy, but perhaps she was new as I didn't recognise her). To top it all, she then sneezed on her shoulder!. Left without the usual calm I feel from this place.

My husband and I came to Cardiff for a few days and knew that we wanted to visit Atma. We arrived very excited and weren't disappointed. Evie and the team were super friendly and helpful to advise us what to get from the extensive and mouthwatering menu. What really struck us about Atma was its dedication to the consciousness surrounding food. Every item on the menu had a soul soothing name and reminded us that what we were eating was made with love to nourish our bodies in the same way. I had the dhal and my husband had a burger. Oh my goodness, we have eaten in a lot of vegan places and this one blew our minds. It was the best burger we had ever tasted. So rich with flavours and textures. The dhal was other worldly. We sat in silence enjoying each mouthful and savouring the flavours. We can't wait to go back and to visit this incredible place. It is a must visit!

I was looking forward to lunch here but was totally let down. I ordered a falafel super salad which turned out to be falafels in a wrap with a salad garnish. I don’t eat wraps and I wanted a salad and NOT a garnish. The food resembled a quick snack from a supermarket.

Never would have thought of going to a vegan cafe if it wasn't for a friendly monk who handed me and my boyfriend a leaflet. We decided to give it a go, my boyfriend being a great lover of meat was very apprehensive but I can safely say that we both thoroughly enjoyed our wholesome Daal and rice. A really peaceful little place in the middle of a busy city is a delight to find. The prices are great and the atmosphere is very calming, shall definitely be returning.

I have been coming here for the last year. I have been following the ‘ahimsa slaughter free dairy’ for years and always wanted to try their products. All of the dairy products at Atma are from ahimsa. So no animals are slaughtered or treated as bad as they do in regular (even ‘organic’ dairies). I encourage you to look at ahimsa’s website.

Wonderful vegan cafe in the heart of Cardiff. This time I had a vegan bounty bar with a chai. Staff all friendly and the service was brilliant

I have been to atma many times now and have never been disappointed. The food is very reasonably priced and you can have a good range of things as well as great vegan cakes and meals!

An enjoyable eatery, quality food and a warm atmosphere in style and substance

I have visited this venue on a Saturday afternoon and evening , only on two occasions and both times I have been happy with what I received.

We had a thali type meal of dhal with cauliflower and paneer with salad, rice and a small paratha type bread. It was nice enough for a lunchtime bite to eat but it was too bland for my liking. If you are looking for something similair in the area then I advise going to Chai street. If you want a snack though, when I came here before, I had a vegan kofta wrap which was tasty. Or if you don’t like any spicey foods and are veggie or vegan, this place will suit you just fine. All depends on what you like!

We had the mixed platter supersoul special which comprised a good balance of dishes.The food, service and ambience were excellent despite being in a shopping mall. It is good to have a new central Cardiff vegetarian restaurant.

We are vegetarians but also dont eat onion or garlic so its tough to eat out, this place was amazing, every single item we ate tasted amazing !!

As a vegan I am keen to find new places to eat. Sadly I was dissapointed. The place was cold and possibly due to the back being open to the shopping centre. There was no toilet ..we had to venture upstairs into the shopping centre for this. The food was ok, filling but not exceptional and drinks were limited. The place was nearly empty, I had to wait for some time to place my order although there were 3 staff on. Once the food is prepared you collect it yourself. We were able to watch the food being prepared. The chef didn't wear gloves whilst preparing food including tearing lettuce for the salad. All in all not a brilliant experience...we won't be going back.

I popped in for a takeaway lunch, the lady that served me was helpful. The restaurant was clean, smelt lovely and a had a calm atmosphere. I ordered the Dahl with rice. I was very disappointed. It was watery, tasteless and very disappointing for the price I had paid. I have attended weddings and the mandhir in Watford, and thought the food was amazing. I am not sure if it was down to the chef on the day who made the Dahl, but I will come back and try other dishes on the menu. My review is poor at the moment hopefully it will improve in the future.

I sought this cafe out after getting recommendations. Not disappointed. I am not a veggie but found the food here very tasty and filling. The dals and curries were really good. The menu is extensive enough to cater for most tastes. Prices very reasonable.

Would totally recommend Atma. There was nothing to fault, friendly staff, superb food and not over priced. We are not vegetarians but throughly enjoyed the meal.

It is a very calming place for a meal,the rice is really scrummy. Wraps are really lovely and desserts yummy. I have visited twice now and both meals were great.

Was out in central Cardiff with my wife. Started to get hungry. Was going to go to the usual but decided to have a look around the Church area and noticed this place.Never eaten there before.

Such a lovely place for a casual meal. Everything was delicious and well presented, even though I am not vegan/vegetarian the food was wonderful and incredibly filling! When walking around the city centre of Cardiff, I'm often approached by people who are handing out flyers for Atma; not only do they do delicious food, but they also offer meditation and yoga classes during the evenings.

Relaxed atmosphere, nicely spaced tables. Veggie burger options were great and tastes wonderful. Service was impressively quick and very friendly. I want to go back and try other menu options.

This place does incredible veggie food. We finally went today and it didn't disappoint. If your a veggie or vegan then this place is a must in Cardiff. My wife and daughter are both veggie I'm not but this place made me forget about meat. The burgers are so full of flavour all with homemade sauces. The Dahl is simply fantastic and all delivered with such great service.

Atma is conveniently located in the city centre and serves variety of vegan and vegetarian meals. The staff is friendly and attentive.

Great Vegetarian Place to eat! Had a great range of Vegan & a couple of GF options so I was happy.

We were initially pleased to have found a venue that caters for vegetarians and vegans, and were expecting that these dishes were better thought out compared to other venues that only have one or two vegetarian options. However we were very disappointed with the quality of the food. We had the Indian dish "Atma Special" which did not have a good balance of flavour that you'd expect from Indian cooking, with the blandest dal that I've ever tasted. We also had the mushroom pie and chips. The pie was very dry, with a sauce that was over floured, and skinny fries that were obviously from a packet. I really can't understand why a venue that implies certain standards can't even slice a potato to make decent chips. If we had time, the food would have been sent back and we would have gone somewhere else. Perhaps the staff are aware of the food quality issues, and this is why they don't make any effort to check if the customers are happy with it.

the best vegetarian burger, and for those meat eaters, they feel like they haven't missed out!! Seitan burger with fries, is super delicious.

Lovely place to eat on a busy Saturday in Cardiff. We sat at a window table and watched the world go by whilst eating delicious food. I had the Atma special- rice, dahl, puri bread, a veg and paneer curry and some chutney. Delicately spiced and so tasty. Hubby had the kofta wrap which was also very tasty, packed with salad and two deep fried carrot and chickpea koftas. The surroundings are basic but clean and I look forward to returning to try the burgers which also looked really good.

Centrally located this vegetarian restaurant offers good food at a reasonable price considering it is located in the city centre opposite St. John's church. We had the Atma special (veg curry, dahl, cauliflower bhajee, rice, puri and chutney) and a kofta wrap with some soft drinks for under £15. Will come back again.

I called in here by chance looking for a vegetarian snack in the afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised by the value and quality of the food. I had an ATMA platter and was given th option of vegetarian or vegan while orerdering. It was very good indeed.

I have eaten here twice in the last month and both times I have been blown away by the quality of food. My husband a pround carnivore and me a newly minted vegan have enjoy everything we have had. My husband said if he hadn't had picked the sweet potato and walnut pie of the menu himself he would've sworn it was a proper steak and kidney pie. Eveytime I ate something it was a revelation that the vegan doesn't mean tasteless. So many good things to eat and no loss for the lack of meat. Amazing Value and great unobtrusive service.
