We have been regulars at Mowglis for several years and booked a birthday meal for a friend. When we arrived our table wasn’t free as the previously group hadn’t left, but this should’ve been addressed before our arrival. It took 15 minutes to finally be seated after standing in the middle of the restaurant. After another 20 minutes being sat down, no one came to take our orders so we had to call staff over for both drinks and then food. Our waiter was less than pleasant. Some drinks were forgotten by staff as well. The service here has declined massively since our first time and we’re unlikely to come again.

First time we've been . It was from a recommend. It was amazing. Great staff. Stunning food and such beautiful decor. We went for the set menu for 2 so we could try lots of different dishes. So nice and we were very full. It was also my birthday so was presented with a warm chocolate brownie with ice cream and a birthday candle. Perfect end to a fab day.

Had lunch recently, the Butter Chicken and Basmati Rice tasted delicious.Service was very attentive, and the restaurant looked good with twinkling fairy lights.My daughter and her friend also enjoyed their chosen meals.

The 4 start is for it atmosphere. The food was really average. The potatoes curry, one of the sharing roulette curry, tasted like boiled potatoes in a can of tomatoe sauce. It's risky to order the Tiffin Sharing Roulette (hence the name of roulette, I guess), as you might not like any of 3 curries the chef chose for you! So bear that in mind when ordering. We had such high hope as a friend highly recommended it to us. After our meal, I went on to read some reviews (I know I should have read it beforehand). There were 3 or 4 people mentioned about the food being flavourless/not good. It is rather pricey, too, for what it is. What puts me off the most is that they charged service charge on the £1 charity donation!! It's only 10p but it is off-putting. Would I visit it again or recommend it? No.

I absolutely loved this place! The dishes were creative and delicious, the service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxing. Highly recommended!

Mowgli is a regular for us on a shopping trip to Cardiff. The food was great as usual and the free chat bombs via an email promo was a bonus. Aran was our server and he was very helpful and friendly.

First date night of 2025 and we both had a fab time. Our server Jack made it all straight forward and couldn’t do enough for us . Food was fantastic, we’ve been once before and it was even better than we remembered!

Rushed, not pleasent informed all food will be brought out at the same time including starters,my food was cold so had it replaced, rice had no flavour,bread was cold ordered 2 only got 1, nothing like the Cheltenham venue. Wouldn't recommend and won't be going back.

Second time visiting and not disappointed. Was very busy for an early Saturday evening and Jordan went out of his way to sort us out a lovely table. We went for the sharing platter for 3 of us. So much food kept coming out. Every bite was explosive with flavour. Atmosphere was lovely and service fantastic.

This is the third year running that we’ve eaten in this lovely little restaurant and each time the staff have been amazing in explaining how they serve their food ie it comes out at the time it’s cooked. We asked for an extra side dish whilst we were eating our main dishes (name not remembered) the waiter did look a little surprised and did explain that it was a large dish, and when it came by another server I could see what he meant (large)but something must have been misinterpreted as I explained to the new server and she knew exactly what I dish I meant. The wrong order was taken away without any problem at all & shortly after our correct dish was with us. I’d definitely recommend this restaurant and shall return the next time we are in Cardiff.

Ambience and decor 9/10 Staff and front of house 9/10 Food 6/10 Lovely ambience and decor. Lit with hundreds of fairy lights giving a warm intimate vibe. The young staff were helpful friendly and attentive. The food was served in small oblong tiffin tins. We ordered numerous dishes to the value of £114. Which included just two Coke Colas only. All the dishes were tasty, vibrant and punchy in those familiar Indian flavour notes. I chose the Lamb curry. It was a richly flavoured slow cooked curry. You could taste the individual spice notes. It was lovely. My main gripe with our Mowgli experience was the portion sizes of the dishes. If you actually counted the pieces of chicken or potatoes. There wasn't much. Nearly all of the dishes are served on beds of salad leaves with sliced red onions as a feature garnish. The lamb curry portion size was dire to be honest. If it was a ladle full at the very most. The amount wouldn't fill your average coffee mug. Also, our group did not like the 'Discretionary' service charge of £11.23p It's a sneaky form of emotional blackmail in my opinion. We eat out a lot. We are good tippers if we feel we've had great service and food. We just don't like the service charge added on the bill. We want the opportunity to decide in how or who we decide to tip. So to conclude this review. The food is good. The portion sizes were meagre.

We throughly enjoyed this cultural experience being transported straight to the Himalayan mountains. The food was delectable perfectly balanced between spice and sweet though sullied by the presence of foliage. The orange wine though exotic in title-ship was ordinary in taste, would recommend to fellow alcoholics. It is not the kindest to bank accounts but it makes up for it in atmosphere

Not bad, not great. Food was average, staff were ok, however when clearing up one of the waiters dropped plates with food all over our belongings. Didn't bother offering anything as an appology. Considering it was a fair amount, I felt it was very strange as we ordered a decent amount of food and drinks for a family of 4, yet still kept the service charge on the receipt even thought he spilt yogurt all over our items,my jeans and jacket. Otherwise ok location, fancy restraunt and if you like bland food then not bad. (They did bring chillis on request which helped). Unfortunate occasion, otherwise would have found the experience ok.

Dhrubo's service at Mowgli was exceptional. He went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable. His knowledge of the menu, especially the Indian dishes, was impressive. He guided us through the menu with enthusiasm and made some fantastic recommendations. The food itself was a culinary delight. The spices were perfectly balanced, and each dish was bursting with flavor. A truly unforgettable experience.

service was great, staff are nice and welcoming. the atmosphere in the restaurant is amazing, light and cozy. however, the food portions are absolutely tiny and not filling whatsoever, not to mention it’s overpriced. I asked for a gunpowder chicken and didn’t realise it had coriander in it so i asked for a new dish without coriander if it was fine, which it was so they made a new one and the new one literally still had coriander in it so i had to eat it despite not wanting any coriander. so overall, food is okay, portions are absolutely tiny for such a extortionate price, always wanted to come here but this will be the first and LAST time ever coming to Mowgli. Walking in hungry and coming out still hungry due to small portions and expensive prices.

What a taste sensation. Had the tiffin boxes, lucky dip, where all dishes are the winning ticket! Loved it all. Great, friendly staff too. Thank you for the experience, we will be back.

Terrible service, okay food. I was handed a hot metal bowl of the curry I’d ordered (rather than them putting it down in front of me) and half the pot spilled all over my jeans, coat, handbag and trainers and they didn’t even say anything or offer to bring me a cloth to wipe it off, now my clothes and trainers are completely covered in bright orange turmeric stains. They don’t bother to pour the wine for you, and while some of the food was okay, I've had much better. It seems like they rely on the pretty interior rather than anything else.

The ambience was so lovely with all the lights and the staff were extremely helpful, especially when explaining the menu. It was a clean restaurant. I definitely recommend visiting. I took my son to Mowgli’s with my daughters to celebrate his 21st birthday. I had never visited a Mowgli’s before but had read some great reviews. Unfortunately, to say I was underwhelmed and disappointed is a vast understatement. The size of the dishes is ludicrously mean and miserly; I simply don’t buy the explanation of the staff that they are “like tapas” given the extortionate prices. My daughters and I ordered the street sharer meals. Naively, I believed the promise on the menu that we would receive a good selection of dishes and that this was “pot luck” on the day, determined by what the chef was cooking. It was in fact highly apparent that the chief ingredients of many of the dishes were as cheap as chips: potatoes, chickpeas and lentils. The dahl was mushy and dull. Each portion of rice amounted to no more than about three spoonfuls. The rotis were tiny, tasteless and dry; I could make better at home with supermarket chapati flour. Our ice-cream desserts literally consisted of one spoonful of ice-cream each. I couldn’t help but feel utterly conned and swindled. The concept of Mowgli’s appears to be based upon the objective of greedily making as much profit as possible by spicing up the cheapest of ingredients and serving the most meagre of portion sizes. The ambient atmosphere is simply created by an abundance of fairy lights and ropes ridiculously hanging from above. Even the serviettes are disposable - no better quality than those you would get in a roadside burger van. If I was the owner, I would feel deeply ashamed. In short, the food is crazily overpriced and overhyped. The decor is silly and childish. In addition, you are automatically charged a service charge on top of the inflated bill, as well as a “voluntary” donation to charity. I am sure the owner must realise that most people would be too embarrassed to ask for these to be removed. Well, I’m not. I asked for them to be removed on principle and left a tip of my own choosing. I refuse to be compelled to pay a tip of over £13 when the food and portion sizes are so unimpressive. One pound to charity does not sound a lot, but I checked out the Mowgli charity accounts and found that they lacked the detail, transparency and clarity I would expect to characterise such accounts; for instance, what exactly does all the expenditure relate to? Very little non-numerical information is provided. One thing about the accounts is, however, clear: taking £1 from every single customer who doesn’t object adds up to hundreds of thousands of pounds per year. There’s a traditional Christian principle that you shouldn’t seek to make excessive profit from people but instead treat them with fairness, honesty and decency. Not at all in evidence at Mowgli’s, in my opinion.

Booked the venue for 3pm and arrived 5 minutes prior to, short wait to be seated, no issues. Drinks order was taken pretty much straight away and we were then asked 3 times in 5 minutes by 3 different servers. Food ordered, arrived as per standard Mowgli experience - no pattern, just when the food was ready. Lamb chops @ £13.95 were poor. Overcooked, fatty and cold. Not great. Cheese toast arrived cold. Agra chicken and sticky chicken both excellent. No offer from the waitress over additional drinks. One drink was served and that is all we were getting. Plates were being taken whilst we were eating, they couldn’t wait to clear the table for the next guests. Bill came, two options: 1. With service charge 2: without service charge added. Advised that we would like option 2 as the service was poor. Paid the bill, no thank you at the end which is most disappointing. Not even offered to have our ‘loyalty card’ stamped. We were in and out within 60 minutes. All told and with a balanced view 3 out of 5 and in no hurry to return.

Excellent food and excellent service. Jack our waiter was so friendly and helpful, he really made our evening special. Our first time here and we were made to feel so welcome. Food very tasty and filling.

Good atmosphere, food was quite nice and the portions quite generous but I wasn’t massively blown away by it. Having been to India it’s surprising how little street food there actually is over there beyond ‘paan puris’. The best food is the food served at home before a main meal, made by your Indian mum or aunt. So Indian ‘street food’ is a bit of a misnomer. This food still felt a little commercial and ‘chain-y’ and turned up surprisingly quickly.Our waitress wasn’t particularly helpful in recommending dishes, almost like she’d never eaten there. And it felt like she was trying to get us out as the bill arrived long before we’d even finished our drinks. Oh, and they already added 10% optional service charge. That irritated me. So we paid 5% partly because of that. Just include it as part of the overheads. What next, itemised bills include your rent, electricity and employer National Insurance? Relaxing it was not!

We were a table of 4 crammed on to a tiny table, shoulder to shoulder with other customers who were also crammed in. Everyone looked uncomfortable. We waited 1.5 hours for our food because the kitchen didn't receive our order. We were given complimentary chaat bombs for the mistake. When the mains did eventually arrive it was okay. We were so hungry and tired after the long wait that we didn't really enjoy our meal. Overall it was not worth the wait... Customers crammed into small tables + Not enough staff to manage that many customers = Orders being forgotten + Drink orders not being taken

Centrally located restaurant with super nice decor and delicious food. The waiters were nice but seemed quite stressed when we visited the restaurant.

I called today to try and see if after booking for 10 people we were able to use the normal menu as their email after confirmation stated that we would need to use the festive menu which is a tiny menu that is required for groups of 10+. After asking if for a group of exactly 10 of us we would be able to use the normal menu as we would if we had one less person the girl on the phone said she would have to ask her manager who was on the phone and I could stay on hold if I would like to. I said I wouldn’t mind waiting I just wanted to know as this would be for a friends birthday. After being on hold for 25 minutes they had hung up the phone on me. I thought this may have been a mistake and tried calling back but the phone was not answered and avoided like the plague. Absolutely shocking service to be on that long of a hold and not even had the decency for a call back or even had the phone answered again. Very poor service I had hoped the management was at least slightly better than the first person who answered the call but apparently they are even worse. Would never recommended to anyone since this is how they treat people just trying to book a table.

We had heard much about this place before going there for dinner. I was looking forward to sampling the Tapas portions of Indian style of food offerings. But I would say that there wasn’t any really standout food offerings there, although the food was overall good. I was a little surprised by the noise in the place. I suppose that (as an American) I’m not used to the way things are in the UK. To each, his own, I suppose.

We visited as part of a birthday party and we were disappointed with the overall experience. We were highly encouraged (emphasis on the 'highly') to order from the 'feasting' menu at £35 per head - the food was mediocre at best, the chicken was dry and the sauce didn't taste authentic. It felt like the restaurant was trying to insensitively maximise their profits out of us and as I understand business is business, a more subtle customer-centric approach may not have left us with a sour taste in our mouths. We paid for three people's meals and the bill was extortionate (we did order some drinks in addition); with the service charge automatically added and the satisfactory quality of food I did not feel the price reflected the experience we received. On a positive note, the waitress was informative, attentive and pleasant and so I hope she benefits somewhat from the costly service charge. To sum up, the overall experience lacked any marvel.

Having received a number of recommendations from friends, I had really high expectations for a delicious lunch at Mowgli’s. First impressions of the restaurant itself were great - its styled beautifully, the menu sounds delicious and the staff were attentive. The food though, I would say is pretty average. Certainly not as rich and flavoursome as the menu leads you to believe. The daal in particular was watery and very bland. Food was also only just warm. Mowgli’s is not a patch on Dishoom and sadly, I won’t be rushing back.

Great place to grab interesting twists on Indian flavours. The recipes are slightly modified from standard flavours but in a positive way. Pros - Cost - reasonable (main course ~10) Service - Excellent Atmosphere - Amazing, does give you tropical vibe . Cons - Masala chai was definitely NOT chai, came with milk separately and black tea in Pot. Wifi doesn't work. Adding 1 pound of involuntary donation unless you ask to remove

I booked Mowglis for my friends 21st birthday it was an amazing atmosphere, lovely food, banging cocktails, amazing staff, affordable and a lovely birthday brownie to top the mral off. We had a lovely time and as a student in cardiff it is my new favourite place to eat. A special thank you to Jordan and Richard for making my friends day so perfect and additional support with a medical situation they were patient, compassionate and understanding. Would 10/10 recommend and will be coming back :)

What a waste of money. Not at all good.

Very disappointed with customer service. I took my friend for lunch for her Birthday The meal was ok ish we had the set meal £25 per head and a bottle of wine which came to £80. The curries served were just warm and not really very nice. When the waiter came to clear the table he asked if we wanted what we had left boxed up I told him it was disappointing and we would not order that again. We had 10% off as we had clearly not enjoyed the meal. A little while later both my friend and I had cramping pains in our stomach and feeling nauseous. We were staying over night in Cardiff so this really spoilt our weekend. The discomfort continued over the weekend I rung the resturant on the Monday and explained the manager said it would have to be investigated. Following a few calls and a wait of a week we were told there was nothing wrong with the food we had been served. I was dealing with a lady I believe was called Paige who was meant to be getting back to me following emails and calls she had still not had the good manners to reply. Compleat wast of money. I would never dine here again.

Very good location. Dominica was very helpful when we called to check reservation, she was very polite and warm welcome. On the evening following Miguel helped with choice of food and it was served by Aran who so so kind as we were there for our golden wedding. A cake on the house was stunning. All in all a lovely night with lovely surroundings.

We had Friday lunch here based on a recommendation from friends. We were not disappointed. Staff were efficient and helpful. Advised 4/5 dishes for 2 people, we ordered 5. Just right amount. Fries, rice, monkey wrap, 2 x curry. Food was excellent, so fresh and tasty. We will go,back.

I have tested so many Indian dishes from the plethora of restaurants but I can say that this is the true authentic Indian tasty restaurant. Staff is so amazing at their work Izzy and Abbie and Richard help to find true dishes according to our taste..

The atmosphere is amaizing no doubt but the food was absolutely disgusting and the service was also ok we literally waited half an hour just to be served. Really disappointed we ordered mother chicken curry and it was tasteless. Just the atmosphere is good but the services and the food was not really great.

Very good service and nice atmosphere. It is better understood as Indian tapas. Relatively small portions, but a bit expensive. Butter Chicken different than usual, but also delicious. The starter of yogurt bombs was delicious. Unfortunately no naan bread. A bit too expensive for the price-performance ratio.

To start on a positive note, the decor and the ambience looked amazing to me. The lights and the swings are unique. We ordered gun powder chicken which was ok because the portion was so less, mostly a few pieces of chicken on raw spinach but the taste wasn’t awful. Next, it was Mowgli house lamb curry, which was extremely mediocre when it came to taste. We had to order rotis as the curry didn’t come with any rice and they were nothing special. Lastly, adding a 10% gratuity to the bill automatically and a ‘Charity Donation’ to the bill is very off putting. We paid it anyways. Because of the beautiful decor and the atmosphere we are glad we dined there one time.
