Mowgli Street Food in Cardiff

Booked the venue for 3pm and arrived 5 minutes prior to, short wait to be seated, no issues. Drinks order was taken pretty much straight away and we were then asked 3 times in 5 minutes by 3 different servers. Food ordered, arrived as per standard Mowgli experience - no pattern, just when the food was ready. Lamb chops @ £13.95 were poor. Overcooked, fatty and cold. Not great. Cheese toast arrived cold. Agra chicken and sticky chicken both excellent. No offer from the waitress over additional drinks. One drink was served and that is all we were getting. Plates were being taken whilst we were eating, they couldn’t wait to clear the table for the next guests. Bill came, two options: 1. With service charge 2: without service charge added. Advised that we would like option 2 as the service was poor. Paid the bill, no thank you at the end which is most disappointing. Not even offered to have our ‘loyalty card’ stamped. We were in and out within 60 minutes. All told and with a balanced view 3 out of 5 and in no hurry to return.

Excellent food and excellent service. Jack our waiter was so friendly and helpful, he really made our evening special. Our first time here and we were made to feel so welcome. Food very tasty and filling.

Good atmosphere, food was quite nice and the portions quite generous but I wasn’t massively blown away by it. Having been to India it’s surprising how little street food there actually is over there beyond ‘paan puris’. The best food is the food served at home before a main meal, made by your Indian mum or aunt. So Indian ‘street food’ is a bit of a misnomer. This food still felt a little commercial and ‘chain-y’ and turned up surprisingly quickly.Our waitress wasn’t particularly helpful in recommending dishes, almost like she’d never eaten there. And it felt like she was trying to get us out as the bill arrived long before we’d even finished our drinks. Oh, and they already added 10% optional service charge. That irritated me. So we paid 5% partly because of that. Just include it as part of the overheads. What next, itemised bills include your rent, electricity and employer National Insurance? Relaxing it was not!

We were a table of 4 crammed on to a tiny table, shoulder to shoulder with other customers who were also crammed in. Everyone looked uncomfortable. We waited 1.5 hours for our food because the kitchen didn't receive our order. We were given complimentary chaat bombs for the mistake. When the mains did eventually arrive it was okay. We were so hungry and tired after the long wait that we didn't really enjoy our meal. Overall it was not worth the wait... Customers crammed into small tables + Not enough staff to manage that many customers = Orders being forgotten + Drink orders not being taken

Centrally located restaurant with super nice decor and delicious food. The waiters were nice but seemed quite stressed when we visited the restaurant.

I called today to try and see if after booking for 10 people we were able to use the normal menu as their email after confirmation stated that we would need to use the festive menu which is a tiny menu that is required for groups of 10+. After asking if for a group of exactly 10 of us we would be able to use the normal menu as we would if we had one less person the girl on the phone said she would have to ask her manager who was on the phone and I could stay on hold if I would like to. I said I wouldn’t mind waiting I just wanted to know as this would be for a friends birthday. After being on hold for 25 minutes they had hung up the phone on me. I thought this may have been a mistake and tried calling back but the phone was not answered and avoided like the plague. Absolutely shocking service to be on that long of a hold and not even had the decency for a call back or even had the phone answered again. Very poor service I had hoped the management was at least slightly better than the first person who answered the call but apparently they are even worse. Would never recommended to anyone since this is how they treat people just trying to book a table.

We had heard much about this place before going there for dinner. I was looking forward to sampling the Tapas portions of Indian style of food offerings. But I would say that there wasn’t any really standout food offerings there, although the food was overall good. I was a little surprised by the noise in the place. I suppose that (as an American) I’m not used to the way things are in the UK. To each, his own, I suppose.

The food was great. We really enjoyed the sharing menu that gave us a chance to taste a variety of dishes in a reasonable price. The restaurant is very beautiful and had an excellent vibe.

Absolutely stunning food. Restaurant was really busy but the service was still excellent Very polite and knowledgeable staff. The food was out of this world. We had the sharing menu and it did not disappoint. Every dish was so full of flavour and absolutely stunning. Will definitely recommend and will most certainly be retuning. Excellent place

We visited as part of a birthday party and we were disappointed with the overall experience. We were highly encouraged (emphasis on the 'highly') to order from the 'feasting' menu at £35 per head - the food was mediocre at best, the chicken was dry and the sauce didn't taste authentic. It felt like the restaurant was trying to insensitively maximise their profits out of us and as I understand business is business, a more subtle customer-centric approach may not have left us with a sour taste in our mouths. We paid for three people's meals and the bill was extortionate (we did order some drinks in addition); with the service charge automatically added and the satisfactory quality of food I did not feel the price reflected the experience we received. On a positive note, the waitress was informative, attentive and pleasant and so I hope she benefits somewhat from the costly service charge. To sum up, the overall experience lacked any marvel.

We sat outside as a warmish day. Service was very friendly. They didnt rush us. Food was delicious. Asked if we wanted more wine. Chat bombs melted in out mouths. Mowgli chicken curry was delicious and freshly made. Highly recomend Mowgli street food.

Having received a number of recommendations from friends, I had really high expectations for a delicious lunch at Mowgli’s. First impressions of the restaurant itself were great - its styled beautifully, the menu sounds delicious and the staff were attentive. The food though, I would say is pretty average. Certainly not as rich and flavoursome as the menu leads you to believe. The daal in particular was watery and very bland. Food was also only just warm. Mowgli’s is not a patch on Dishoom and sadly, I won’t be rushing back.

Great place to grab interesting twists on Indian flavours. The recipes are slightly modified from standard flavours but in a positive way. Pros - Cost - reasonable (main course ~10) Service - Excellent Atmosphere - Amazing, does give you tropical vibe . Cons - Masala chai was definitely NOT chai, came with milk separately and black tea in Pot. Wifi doesn't work. Adding 1 pound of involuntary donation unless you ask to remove

I booked Mowglis for my friends 21st birthday it was an amazing atmosphere, lovely food, banging cocktails, amazing staff, affordable and a lovely birthday brownie to top the mral off. We had a lovely time and as a student in cardiff it is my new favourite place to eat. A special thank you to Jordan and Richard for making my friends day so perfect and additional support with a medical situation they were patient, compassionate and understanding. Would 10/10 recommend and will be coming back :)

What a waste of money. Not at all good.

Very disappointed with customer service. I took my friend for lunch for her Birthday The meal was ok ish we had the set meal £25 per head and a bottle of wine which came to £80. The curries served were just warm and not really very nice. When the waiter came to clear the table he asked if we wanted what we had left boxed up I told him it was disappointing and we would not order that again. We had 10% off as we had clearly not enjoyed the meal. A little while later both my friend and I had cramping pains in our stomach and feeling nauseous. We were staying over night in Cardiff so this really spoilt our weekend. The discomfort continued over the weekend I rung the resturant on the Monday and explained the manager said it would have to be investigated. Following a few calls and a wait of a week we were told there was nothing wrong with the food we had been served. I was dealing with a lady I believe was called Paige who was meant to be getting back to me following emails and calls she had still not had the good manners to reply. Compleat wast of money. I would never dine here again.

Very good location. Dominica was very helpful when we called to check reservation, she was very polite and warm welcome. On the evening following Miguel helped with choice of food and it was served by Aran who so so kind as we were there for our golden wedding. A cake on the house was stunning. All in all a lovely night with lovely surroundings.

This place deserves nothing less than 5 stars…excellent service, amazing fresh tasty food and the atmosphere is second to none. If your new to cardiff and like an Indian with a difference, try this place

We had Friday lunch here based on a recommendation from friends. We were not disappointed. Staff were efficient and helpful. Advised 4/5 dishes for 2 people, we ordered 5. Just right amount. Fries, rice, monkey wrap, 2 x curry. Food was excellent, so fresh and tasty. We will go,back.

I have tested so many Indian dishes from the plethora of restaurants but I can say that this is the true authentic Indian tasty restaurant. Staff is so amazing at their work Izzy and Abbie and Richard help to find true dishes according to our taste..

Always have a fabulous time here, Nish and me both love fairy lights! Great to be able to get a decent range of food that is wheat free. Love the swing seats too.

The atmosphere is amaizing no doubt but the food was absolutely disgusting and the service was also ok we literally waited half an hour just to be served. Really disappointed we ordered mother chicken curry and it was tasteless. Just the atmosphere is good but the services and the food was not really great.

Very good service and nice atmosphere. It is better understood as Indian tapas. Relatively small portions, but a bit expensive. Butter Chicken different than usual, but also delicious. The starter of yogurt bombs was delicious. Unfortunately no naan bread. A bit too expensive for the price-performance ratio.

To start on a positive note, the decor and the ambience looked amazing to me. The lights and the swings are unique. We ordered gun powder chicken which was ok because the portion was so less, mostly a few pieces of chicken on raw spinach but the taste wasn’t awful. Next, it was Mowgli house lamb curry, which was extremely mediocre when it came to taste. We had to order rotis as the curry didn’t come with any rice and they were nothing special. Lastly, adding a 10% gratuity to the bill automatically and a ‘Charity Donation’ to the bill is very off putting. We paid it anyways. Because of the beautiful decor and the atmosphere we are glad we dined there one time.

An absolute gem of a restaurant - from the food through the decor and on to the atmosphere. Let's get over the - is it authentic, is it super spicy blah blah blah. The food is flavourful, well prepared, presented and to my taste buds at a level of heat and flavour I immensely enjoyed. On arrival we were seated promptly, sadly missed out on a swing (can these be demanded lol) menu explained and drinks ordered. Drinks arrived at table at a reasonable pace and food order taken - when discussing choices with the server - he suggested we had a little cross over with some flavour combos and bread servings and we took suggestions and tweaked our order. As Romesh Ranganathan had a field day in his set for wagamamas - Mowgli does have the the "dishes will arrive when the chef produces" which always feels like a bit of timing issue - but the dishes came out with a small pause between the "main curry/rice/bread" even though there are no mains as such. Food was lovely - and great sharing situation with the tapas style presentation and plate to gather your foraged foods from the table selection. Pricing is a little on the expensive side but still just in that reasonable £30 per head bracket for a belly full of flavours Personal favourites were the monkey wrap and chat bombs. Will definitely return to gain a swing seat. For a Tuesday evening it was busy, without service feeling rushed or a prompt to vacate your table - it is good to see hospitality doing brisk trade on a school night.

We opted for the shared dish. It certainly filled me up. Plenty of food, delicious too. Service felt a bit quick though if I'm honest. Served all dishes in aboit 10 minutes, we were still on our first drink. I always leave a tip, but automatically adding in a tip to the bill made it uncomfortable for me. We still paid it but that'll put us off a little for any future visits, the charity payment being added to the bill automatically was also off putting.

15/20 mins to even order a drink , asked to order food got told "id be right back " wasn't at all proceeded to take another order while I'm sitting there. Food honestly was average at best , imagine Indian style Nandos . Decor was nice But overall the service let's it down food was ok , did it make me say oh I'll be back , no was more meh was ok at best, some of my food was hot and some warm .

Booked for a large party of 18. Staff were very helpful and accommodating with fluctuating numbers prior to the day. On the day, staff were attentive and made us felt relaxed and not rushed. Jack was particularly excellent. Highly recommend for a large gathering/party

Service and atmosphere is great but food is not good. If you are planing to try or eat Indian food so this is not a right place, don’t waste your money. Not taste like India food. We have tried butter chicken but very disappointed ☹️

Mowgli has it's trademark fairy lights and modern décor which gives it a nice ambience. Ok prices for what it is. However, when we visited, it was quite busy and we were seated very close to other diners (I'm talking inches) which meant we had no elbow room and could clearly hear everyone's discussions. The food was ok, unusual to your typical Indian menu so it didn't get our taste buds going some flavours were too overpowering. I think they have tried too hard to be different, if you are not used to authentic Indian food and want to try that, then I suggest to try somewhere else. I also didn't like that the staff who served us pushed us to order a certain amount of dishes. Mowgli 'SF is overrated in my opinion, but for the less experienced diner, it could be nice.

Pretty place, central, the day we went was quiet so didn't need to book, small portions but tasty, although the food was a bit cold, a service charge and donation are added to the bill, they said they could remove the service charge which I thought they were doing, but when I looked at my bank statement they charged me the full price,tried it, not sure I would go back.

What a dreadful 'concept' of a restaurant. You order food and it arrives at different times, my sides came 10 minutes after my main meal arrived which consisted of 2 overcooked under spiced lamb chops. The portions are pitiful and very little flavour. Perhaps it's just me but give me a traditional curry house 100% of the time.

The food is good but not worth that money very expensive and not tasting like an exciting Indian food. the cocktails are just tasting like a juice. The server was extremely good though.

We visited on a Monday afternoon, promptly seated. The server who went through the menu with us was very knowledgeable about the dishes. Food was served in good time and tasteful. Only criticism that we were not offered another beverage whilst eating (I would have had at least 1 more beer if offered).

Mowglis was absolutely amazing, the food was delicious! We went on a busy night and the service was still great! Jack our server was very friendly and told us all the things to try after asking for recommendations. We will be going back again

I went here today for a meal and as always, the food was outstanding and went beyond my expectations of previous visits. Our waiter was very welcoming and helpful throughout our visit and just overall so charismatic and enthusiastic about each dish. However, the manager was on the other hand, the contrary. Towards the end of our meal upon receiving the bill, we said politely we would be splitting the cost. The manager made a rather snarky comment about not having a calculator which created a rather awkward atmosphere. We also kindly requested to have swing seats (as these are very popular)- despite the restaurant being rather empty at the time, the manager seemed to have a hard time trying to accommodate this request and didn’t seem to be so forthcoming with her staff.

We came in the past and it was absolutely amazing but this time I was quite disappointed. My cocktail was quite watery and lacking flavour and the rice was chalky and undercooked. I mentioned it to the waiter who told me it would be passed on to the chef, but I'm not really sure if that's the best outcome because it would have been nice to have been offered something else like roti or better rice instead. The chicken was nice and tender which was great, but I had the surprise tiffin meal and all three curries were very similar creamy, tomato based dishes so I was a little underwhelmed with the variety, they didn't have a huge depth and the meal was just lacking overall. There were no greens or veg in sight so a pickle or something green to come with it on the side of tiffin would have been good. One positive was that the tiffin was a lot of food, my partner and I could have probably shared one. We sat outside as we have a dog (nice that you were so accommodating for dogs) but the outside atmosphere doesn't at all reflect the inside, no care has gone in to it so you could be eating anywhere. I was thinking of coming here for my graduation meal with my family but I probably won't now. I might come again and try something different on the menu.

If you like Indian food don't go. When we walked in it smelt nice and the staff seemed friendly but the food really let it down. They charge what I would consider a full price for a normal curry buy give you a tiny portion and call it 'a tapas experience'. The curry was possibly the worst curry I've ever had. I can't help but feel that this place gets good reviews because it looks cool inside. Either that or there are no decent Indian restaurants in Cardiff therefore people have nothing to compare it to.

Well I normally have a good curry from mowgli, but tonight I had 4 delivered and all I can say is they must have changed the cooks as it was full of oil with a poor serving of chicken, the worse curry I have ever had from them must be having a bad night.

Food was tasty. I can’t deny that. However, the pricing was a bit over the top. £5.50 for a 330ml can of tiny rebel? Maybe worth re-visiting some of your pricing. Doubt I’ll pay another visit. Cheers tho.

Well, to begin with , is it worth the hype ? I have actually wanted to try this restaurant from a long time , but unfortunately it’s always fully booked. Today , I specially visited Cardiff from Swansea to eat there , am I delighted ? Not at all . I won’t lie the service and atmosphere is absolutely fantastic but unfortunately the food is just ok . If you’re an Indian or you know what authentic Indian street food tastes like then you would not want to spend so much on that food . I clearly didn’t understand what was the hype about , maybe it was the environment because that’s actually very unique . I personally do not want to visit again . If you have plenty of money and just want to chill and enjoy the vibe , you must go. Just last suggestion, the restaurant can actually expand their menu , it’s quite limited .

Have previously left a 5 star review but food quality on a recent visit was way down, server told us supplier had changed and meat quality was lower. Previously left here excited to go back but not this time. Disappointing.

Came here on a date night and Ben was super lovely! Amazing service and picked out the perfect cocktail for me when I couldn’t decide. Would definitely recommend and come back again.
