Salkaara in Cardiff

Had a very good meal here last night. The portions aren't huge (especially starters and dessert) but they are all very good with interesting flavours. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Avoid at all costs ordered on uber eats and curry was in edible by family was also unable to leave a review on uber eats opned a support ticket for reasoning why way better options for curry out there don't even think about it also has a hygiene rating of 2 I'd like to add

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this place. The curries were bland, and the portion sizes were quite small. Having visited nearly half of the curry houses in Cardiff, I can confidently say this ranks at the bottom for quality. While the meat was decent, the sauces were overly sweet and lacked the authentic flavor you'd expect from a good curry. Overall, the meal felt more like sugar-laden dishes than proper curries

Incredible Food Ordered on uber eats. Chef rang me shortly after order as one of the meals was not appropriate for my allergy. He suggested an alternative which was fantastic Easily the best takeaway I've had and I've tried many Would 100% recommend Thank you for a fantastic meal!

Really good food, one of the best Indian food I’ve ever had, the Tasting Menu 1 was excellent for seafood lovers.

We went with the shared menu 1 which included seafood and curry dishes. All were of excellent quality and everyone was more than full by the end of the meal! Service was attentive, professional and friendly. One member of the group had the lamb shank which was also delicious and tender.

My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting Salkaara tonight and we had an amazing time. The host of tonight, Anand, is a lovely person. The service provided by him was excellent and the food we ordered was really awesome. Kudos to the entire team for making the restaurant one of the finest ones in Cardiff.

Just two minutes on the train from Radyr and a short walk down Station Road, to try an Indian meal at Salkaara. Something different. And we were very impressed. Great dishes and flavours, rich sauces, all carefully prepared and nicely presented. Very attentive service too.

First class food. Unusual and fantastically well cooked. Excellent service too. Try the Syrian beef if you like a hot peppery and unusual dish.

We’d been driving around the coast for hours and returned to Cardiff very late (after 10pm). This was the only restaurant in the area open so we walked in. Even though it was so close to closing time, the staff were warm and welcoming - and even let us order the tasting menu. It was one of the top Indian meals I’ve had in the UK, and trust me - I’ve eaten at some of the best Indian restaurants in the world. It was so good we went back for lunch the next day to eat the other tasting menu!

Visited with friends last evening - the food really is next level - much, much nicer than usual curry in Cardiff - more like a quality London restaurant for food for sure.. Price in relation to quality is very good In short I would not hesitate for a second to recommend

We ordered the Syrian Beef and Chicken Korma both looked and tasted absolutely Vile, hardly any meat and the Korma looked like a Passanda with far too much sugar added to it. I ordered from the branch in Llandaff North. Extremely disappointed and so was my Guest! I ended up cooking for us , totally defeating the object!🤮😡

So disappointed with the food served in the restaurant.. Never ever walk into this restaurant thinking you can have a Kerala meal. Ordered beef dry fry, but received 4 small slices of beef curry. Ordered chicken kondattam, but received chicken ‘not sure’ They said it was not biriyani but i would never say it is a real biriyani. Very low quantity and quality.. Owners must spend some penny to train the chef by sending him to one normal hotel in Kerala. Never try guys 🤬🤬🤬

Not recommended at all!!! Worst Kerala food ever tried especially the biriyani. Boneless chicken biriyani but named Malabar biriyani and steep prices. Don’t think so the chef even tasted before serving. Don’t ever try the BDF also.

Good food, though different from the Indian food you might be used to. Great variety of dishes, the the menu is a little misleading, so check in with the staff about spice levels. The staff were great and very helpful. Prices are on the high side and portions on the small side, but the food is delicious. I would definitely go again.

Would give 5 stars if portion size was bigger. The lamb payyoli takeaway is amazing but so small!

Salkaara is a quality curry house that I'll definitely be going back to soon for another feed. If you're after an authentic Indian meal in Cardiff, this is one of the best places to get it in my opinion. Gives me curry cravings just thinking about it!

It was such a nice experience being there.I was very much impressed by the hospitality shown by the staff. Salkaara in Llandaff, Cardiff, is fantastic! The Pork Pepper Masala was bursting with flavor, and the Malabar Biriyani was perfectly spiced and aromatic. For dessert, the Tandoori Pineapple was a delightful surprise, with its smoky sweetness. The ambiance and service were impeccable. Highly recommended!

Not an authentic Kerala / Indian restaurant. Food is tasteless, portions are small and prices are steep. Kindly avoid. 🚨 The Malabar Biriyani is only boneless chicken with rice - they should be taking it out the menu. Beef fry portions are notoriously small. This restaurant is also pricier than other Kerala restaurants in Cardiff. Flaws are not covered by the food presentation. Please don't waste your money visiting here on your vacation or special occasion.

We ate there with our family and friends and everyone was disappointed and agreed that it was the worst food with high prices. Also we received very poor customer service from there. Please do not eat there if you have other options.

5 dhaba chickens please. Every week. Without fail. Honestly you should see my just eat order history. The quality these guys and girls pump out on a weekly basis is why they have earned No 1 curry house in Cardiff. Why would you go elsewhere.

Salkaara catered for our 60th birthday lunch for a group of about 40 people. Food was excellent in quality and ample. It was very well organised and went off without a hitch. Defenitely recommend this place either for a quiet meal or to cater for a large group.

Has a wide range of different dishes, drinks are refreshing and it has friendly staff that help if you have allergies or not.

Delicious food and great service in Wellfield Rd. I especially enjoyed the fish dishes, with the fish of the day and the mackerel.

I love the food at Salkaara - they serve unique, authentic Indian food. They specialise in fish dishes. When I have people visiting, this is my go-to local restaurant to take them to as it feels special. The food isn't cheap, but well worth the costs that you pay.

Best curry establishment I have experienced. Regularly have takeaways and often eat inside. Food excellent and not typical bog standard stuff you find in most restaurants. Service excellent and portions generous. Cannot recommend this establishment highly enough.

How could you call this indian food? Ordered takeaway for Chicken Tikka and Sambar as I had bread and rice at home. Very mild seasoning and a lot of cream for tikka curry and little to no seasoning in Sambar. It was like eating lentils porridge. So disappointed with the order

Fantastic properly authentic South Indian food, incredible complex flavours. We are new to the area but we have already been many times as the food is just so good!! Lovely service too in a small restaurant. Can’t recommend it enough, just brilliant. Our favourites are chicken makhani, the paneer and the aubergine curry - divine. Our go to restaurant & where we take everyone that visits us!! ☺️

Having read the reviews was expecting more. The menu is somewhat different than your usual curry house offering. A great selection of fish dishes but none of the traditional dishes you would expect. The starter of beef chilli fry was small but nevertheless full of flavour as was the lamb trio. We had a basket of poppadoms which came with the tiniest spoon size dishes of dips costing £3.95. The lamb shank was also a small portion served in a bowl of curry sauce. The tandoori salmon was the easily the best dish both in quantity and flavour. The restaurant was extremely quiet and the service was slow. I was surprised to see that a 10% service card had been added to the bill automatically. Had I noticed that at the time I would not have paid it.

Our favourite Indian, love, love the lamb biryani! Gorgeous, highly recommend.

I've only ever had takeaways from this place but the Syrian Beef Curry is possibly the best thing I ever eat! Pretty spicy, which suits my tastes - it's incredible!

Brilliantly inventive and tasty Keralan curries, try the lamb shanks, the Dabba Murgh Indian road curry, the mango vegan and more....and the smiles of the young ladies who work there are lovely, while they wait patiently for people to choose their meals ...try to fig and coriander naan.

We regularly order a takeaway from this restaurant and have never ever been disappointed with the quality of the food. However, yesterday I collected our order two main meals accompanied by rice - absolutely delicious but spoilt by poppadoms which had obviously been cooked in old oil tasting and smelling discusting!! False economy!

Wow! I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. I first dined at this restaurant in 2022 when I was working away in Cardiff and the food was exceptional, I have eaten here at least once, if not twice a week, on every visit since. The food is exceptional, perfectly presented, and tastes amazing. The restaurant manager, Anand, is polite, friendly and very welcoming. The food is reasonably priced and never disappoints. The Chicken Tikka Masala dish is my absolute favourite. I look forward to my next visit!

I ordered a lamb rogan josh they sent out a completely different lamb curry which was absolutely spicy like eating a raw chilli disgusting they forgot my can of coke to go with my food first and last time I order from here again I seen all good reviews so gave it a try what a mistake minging the food ,£20 in the bin Uneatable food gross wouldn’t recommend disgusting

First time I ordered from here. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had and will probably stick to my usual Indian instead, but also wasn’t the worst. Chicken Tikka Masala was a little on the runny side and extremely spicy. There wasn’t much chicken which was disappointing . It still tasted ok though considering. Chips & Naan bread were nice but coconut rice wasn’t the best nor was it very coconut-like. The portions were also really small compared to other Indian takeaways. I won’t rush back here but food was ok and delivery arrived within an hour.

Heard so much about this place so gave it a go and wasn't disappointed. The service is top quality, waitress was very knowledgeable on the dishes . The menu is so different to other curry establishment's and so tasty . Cracking pint of cobra as a side dish 😊 . Went for the Syrian beef curry , described as tasty and spicy and it lived up to it , chips as a side too . My girlfriend went for the malabar biryani with medium curry sauce, it looked amazing as the biryani rice bowl came with a nan bread over the top of it , we had a lamb nan bread between us . Give this place a try , it will surprise you ❤️

First of all the staff in both restaurants are genuinely warm and hospitable. Ambiance is pleasant and clean. I come there for a particular dish I have been trying in every South Indian restaurant since Mirchi stopped doing it the way it was superbly done until about 2017. I would say this place comes to the closest in preparation of that dish. Great Kerala style food and so pleased I discovered it

Firstly - the reviewers who complained about the lack of biryani and tikka masala should read, learn and expand their narrow cultural knowledge and horizons - they may learn to love life a bit more Secondly - please don’t come here expecting to find your ‘traditional’ curry house menu Finally - do come here if you appreciate amazingly cooked food The first time I tried Kerala cuisine was at the famous Tharavadu restaurant in Leeds - so good I went back in the same week I was there So, I couldn’t believe it when I saw we had a Kerala restaurant in my home city And it did not let me down I admire the fact they offered tasting menu’s as it’s clear people aren’t accustomed to this type of cooking - it’s a good move All the guys I was with (the traditional Korma, Bhuna, Tandoori eating types) were completely blown away by it Im not going to spend time complimenting the tenderness of the chicken dish, the succulent seafood plate or the ridiculous dessert Because I want you to try it for yourself We had Taster Menu 2, because my brother heinously doesn’t like lamb But I have full intentions of returning to try their Tasting Menu 1 and of course the individual mains Oh…the decor is cozy and modern and the staff were brilliant too

Called in on a Saturday without booking and the lovely lady fitted us in … Poppadum with dips to start then an amazing prawn biryani for me and goat curry for him !! Washed down with a bottle of white … all reasonably priced and faultless Will definitely be back

Nice friendly place with good facilities

Not quite sure how to go about this review as I am still gobsmacked about the experience my Wife and I had at the Salkarra. Was a bit uneasy at the lack of customers when we went in 10.30pm ish Saturday. Ordered the usual popadoms and dips came with three of the smallest round dishes which contained the 'dips' teaspoon (measure) in each one. Fast forward to the main meal. Tried to order chicken madras but they did not do it. Tried for a lamb biryani did not do it. Ordered what I thought was a curry dish but was presented with two pieces of what looked like tandoori chicken which would have been acceptible but it was inedible. The chicken was so salty I had to spit it out, To be fair my Wife ordered Tikka Masala and she said hers was ok. Did not pay for my meal and I do not know how this restaurant is rated at 4.6 on trip advisor. Would not return.

Meal was not great, food tasted Okay, but service was slow. Food took a long time to arrive, tasted better than it looked. Naan bread was plain and flavourless. rice was decent.

We visited as a diverse group from a local specialist resource base attached to a high school. We had been learning about Ramadan and Eid and wanted a great experience to remember so a small group of staff and learners with a range of additional needs visited to sample a variety of dishes. We were served by a lovely and attentive staff member, Nihal, who ensured that everyone had what they needed. He also answered our learners' questions about fasting and celebrating Eid. As we had contacted the restaurant before our visit our food was quick to arrive at the table. As it was lunchtime- we arrived at 12:30- on a Thursday, we were the only diners and there was plenty of space for all ten of us to sit together. For some of our learners it was their first time tasting curry and between us we managed to consume three different types of curry along with rice, chips, naan bread and poppadoms. As well as the opportunity to try some new foods and learn about a different culture, visiting Salkaara allowed our learners to work on developing their independence and social skills in an unfamiliar environment. We had pre-ordered food on a set budget so can't comment on the wider menu or pricing, but what we had was delicious and enjoyed by all. We asked our staff and learners for their highlights of the experience: "Food was good" "The curry was nice" "The curry tasted delicious, and the poppadoms." My partner and I had a takeaway from this restaurant last Saturday how very disappointed we were we ordered 2 chicken kurma well I have never seen a kurma like it it was grey in colour with all black bits in it. I have worked in a takeaway restaurant for over 20 years and have never seen anything like it before. Will never order from there again very disappointed for the money we paid

After a few disappointing curries in recent times , we decided to try somewhere new and I have to say honestly this was by far the right choice .. we had read reviews online and heard through the grapevine that this place was good … we weren’t disappointed and luckily although we thought we’d booked online it wasn’t confirmed, but; the manager squeezed us in, The dishes were fresh , cooked to perfection and full of flavour and taste. Tbh I think it knocks spots off any of the local curry houses in north Cardiff .. The staff were lovely the service was great and the food…. excellent, I can’t say anymore than that ! 👌

Excellent experience. Food was really well presented and tasted amazing. Service was very good too. It was very clean and had a great atmosphere They really went the extra mile All our starters and mains were very tasty - with everyone agreeing this will definitely be our new "go to" Good selection of drinks. Cost was a little higher than your average Indian restaurant but very happy to pay for what was a great afternoon. Only negative was we felt the starter portion size could be a little better but the flavours were amazing All in all a very highly recommended restaurant

As always fantastic food and welcome. They really made an effort when they knew it was my mum’s birthday - ice cream and candles. There had been an issue with our booking but this was effortlessly dealt with by the staff between the two restaurants. Saved the night. Thanks again.

Some of the best indian food in Cardiff. We booked a big table and they made space for us. Poppadoms and dips brought enough for all of us. Food portions plentiful and deliciously spicy. Even brought desserts as it was a special occasion.

I was amazed by the food. The calamari was some of the best I've ever tasted, and the chicken breast was perfection.
