We had sent to us a Blackcurrant & white chocolate yoghurt topped flapjack, these were bloody unreal, genuinely the best flapjack I've had in a long long time. A Kinder beuno brookie (I thought Brookie was a naff soap featuring a load of jobless scousers but there you go) which was so rich and chocolately it was an absolute dream and finally one of the best caramel brownie slices I've ever had, I'd happily eat three or four of these and fall in to a diabetic coma. If I'm ever in James' neck of the woods I will 100% be visiting his cafe and trying some more of his delights. Anyway I'm off to order me some more flapjack, I advise you to do the same!

Ah, let me set the scene for you. Picture this: I stroll into James' Patisserie & Sandwiches, minding my own business, when suddenly, I come face to face with a man straight out of Mordor. Now, I'm not one to judge based on appearances, but this guy looked like he could give Sauron a run for his money in the "dark and brooding" department. But let's not judge a book by its cover, right? So, with a mix of curiosity and trepidation, I approached the counter, where Mr. Mordor himself stood, eyeing me with a gaze colder than the peaks of Mount Doom. Now, I've had my fair share of encounters with intimidating characters, but this one took the cake (pun intended). However, to my surprise, beneath that menacing exterior lay a talent for pastry-making that would make even the most skilled hobbit baker green with envy. With a flick of his wrist and a muttered incantation that sounded suspiciously like Elvish, he presented me with a selection of cakes that would make Gollum himself weep with longing. And let me tell you, those cakes were nothing short of precious. Each bite was a journey through Middle-earth itself, with flavors so rich and decadent, I half expected Gandalf to burst through the door, exclaiming, "You shall not pass... up on these cakes!" As for the sandwiches, well, let's just say they were like the loyal Samwise Gamgee to the cakes' Frodo Baggins – reliable, if a bit overshadowed by the main event. In conclusion, despite the initial intimidation factor, James' Patisserie & Sandwiches turned out to be a hidden gem worthy of any adventurer's quest. So, if you ever find yourself in need of a sweet escape from the darkness of Mordor (or just craving some darn good cake), don't hesitate to pay Mr. Mordor a visit. Who knows, you might just find yourself on a tasty adventure worthy of a Tolkien tale.

A friendly and funny proprietor, a clean and well laid out shop and a cabinet just awaiting Lego, what's not to like? I was lucky enough to sample some cakes and all I can say is they were considerably better than the TV series Rings of Power. A delightful fusion of sweetness, texture, rich depth and moisture that leaves you wondering whether you have just cheated on your wife by eating them. Delicious, delectable, desirable and dead tasty. For the best cakes in Devon, head here. Please do not order scones as they may well put the cream first, although this has not been confirmed.

James and his team made an amazing wedding cake for us. It tasted delicious and meant we could have 3 of our favourite flavours.

Monday 18th September and we visited this small cafe for lunch. It is located in New Street a short distance off High Street in Honiton. In fairness it was the later end of lunchtime, so it was no surprise when the friendly lady behind the counter explained that not everything on the menu was available. Despite that she managed to rustle up a cheese and ham toastie and an egg mayonnaise baguette. Both were well filled and tasty. We also had two flavoursome well made flat white coffees. There were some mouthwatering cakes, which looked homemade, on display We had an enjoyable lunch with friendly service in a small cafe with a rustic feel.

I had to leave a two star review as both times I have been in James Patisserie and had to give up waiting again. Today I was standing in the front of the queue and I wasn't acknowledged whist I waiting patiently to be served. I felt it got to almost 10mins and I gave up, the lady making other people's sandwich could see I was waiting but just ignored me. The other server went on lunch so I gave up. When I got back home I spoke to my husband and he said he had the same experience himself. So feedback is please acknowledge those in the queue and or let them know when they will be served.

James has made several birthday cakes for us and recently has made our wedding cake which was an absolute delight! All of our guests absolutely loved it, it tasted amazing and looked stunning with edible flowers on it too. James has also made a few birthday cakes for us which have also been spot on, including a tractor being driven by a dinosaur cake for our son which was very impressive! My personal favourite from James was a pavalova he made which was just to die for, I have been dreaming about it ever since! Very very talented man, highly highly recommend

Absolutely delicious! Food is always freshly made and so tasty. Also James makes the best Christmas cake in town.

Seriously good! Always. Today's Treacle Tart and Apple Crumble cross over is God-tier! James' is a great place for lunch (toasted Panini or a sausage roll with sesame seed topping for example), or simply indulging in any one of his delicious bakes. A great rotation of cakes that are sold by the slice too in dangerously large wedges!

James baked a spectacular cake for our grandmother’s 100th birthday. It was absolutely beautiful and incredibly tasty -everyone was impressed and asked for his details. Communication was super easy with him and he did exactly what we asked for, and the result was even better than we had expected. Absolutely recommended. Thank you very much, James!

Whenever in the area call in for a cup of tea and a treat and some pastries or sausage rolls to take home. Lovely friendly service, delicious food and reasonably priced. Our favorite in Honiton.

James is amazing at what he does! Everything I've had here has been amazing from cakes to paninnis! My particular favourite is his sausage rolls!! I need his recipe. Wouldn't go anywhere else in honiton for a quick snack!

Ordered a Bakewell cake for a birthday , James made it for us was so delicious definitely the best we have had!

Delicious homemade sandwiches and cakes which aways look as amazing as they taste. I never leave without purchasing some items to eat straight away and some to eat later on in the day. Thank you James for providing scrumptious food and great service. We will always be back for more!!

Having lived locally we knew how good James’ food was so we booked him to make doughnuts for our wedding, which did not disappoint! Edit: 28/09/91 this image is a perfect example of what makes a truly wonderful and delicious cake. It's fair to say I will be going to James in the far future for any cake occasions. I teared up at how beautiful and delicious this cake was. I'm only. Sorry I couldn't post more than one review about this place 😊😊We've gone to James for ages, great place for lunch and a wonderful selection of naughty sweet treats. We got married last year and we commissioned James to do our wedding cake and it was more than what we expected and tasted sensational. Wonderful person and wonderful food. If you're ever in Honiton, give this place a visit you won't regret it 😊

Having read previous reviews we stopped here to buy food to take to our Airbnb for an overnight stop en-route to Cornwall. Greeted by a lovely friendly lady and James who was happy to chat despite being busy cake decorating. Purchased 2 baguettes, one coronation chicken and 1 bacon, lettuce and sun dried tomato plus 4 cakes. All absolutely delicious and fantastic value, the amount and quality of baguette filling was superb. Huge slices of lemon and blueberry gateau and 2 smaller cakes, all delicious. Back in Honiton for a week next spring and will definitely be calling in again. Well done James, hope you have huge success with your business going forward.

What can I say, everything I've tried is exceptional 🤤🤤 great quality produce, all made in house which is fantastic. The roulade is sublime 🤤 not forgetting to mention the BLT is the best I've ever had

We stopped to grab on the go & at these prices we had cake as well! The raspberry roulade was gluten free & delicious. As was my egg mayo wrap & the normal people in my party enjoyed their bacon& brie/sausage paninis. Homemade delights! Highly recommend a visit to support this local business just wish I lived closer.

Ordered a bespoke Birthday cake for my daughter's 17th. Left James to his imagination with some ideas to create something special. On collection I noticed a fair amount of weight, always a good sign.:) The cake surpassed our expectations, carrot cake layer, chocolate layers, with blueberry macarons. Beautifully moist, not over sweet, perfect creation. Exquisite icying with perfect layer thickness, kudos ! Would highly recommend, thank you !

We used to go here very regularly for the best breakfast baguettes and gluten free brownies. James is absolutely lovely and genuine! His food is always fresh from what I have seen, and hygiene standards very high!l. Great local business and worth a visit.

I gave you a free hand when I asked you to make a birthday cake for my darling daughter in law, Lesley and you didn’t disappoint! Angel food cake and I just said, she likes bunnies and butterflies. I realise that she was to be very mature but that was what she liked!! Well this crazy white rabbit,half in,half out of his bunny hole was superb, everyone laughed, his face and the cloud of blue butterflies round his head was hilarious! Needless to say it was all delicious. Thanks a million James!

We tried the chocolate and raspberry roulade a couple months ago, and promptly returned five seconds later to purchase more - absolutely divine! The cakes are so good we went in today and bought an entire batch, honestly couldn’t recommend them highly enough. James is so friendly, and it’s a perfect example of what an independent business should be - top quality patisserie, very reasonably priced and great service. Just wished we lived closer!

I had a birthday cake made here and it was one of the best cakes I'd ever had. Not only was it beautiful but it tasted absolutely amazing. Then when my now husband and I wanted to get a wedding cake done. We were blown away by another wonderful and delicious cake. What's also great is that they catered for guests who couldn't eat gluten. In past experience other gluten free cakes from other places have always been dry, but this cake was moist and full of flavour and there was nothing left after.

I popped in to James' Patisserie for a cake after seeing the tempting selection in the window (bang goes the diet!). I chose a slice of lemon and blueberry bakewell tart which was delicious - very light and lemony. I wish this bakery was in my home town.

I had a panini and a French cream choux bun and it was so yum I can not wait till I have another one. This will be a Saturday treat for me from bow on.

There is a great choice if sandwich options which are freshly made. There is a small salad bar of tasty dishes. Food is served using recyclable materials and no plastic. Salad is in cardboard and forks are bamboo . (Sadly bottled water is sold. ). There is a little bench to sit on indoors. Sandwiches were fab and great value . Excellent service. Pleased to support a local independent business

Great sandwiches and even better cakes!

I was so excited to present a 50th birthday cake to a friend. However when it was picked up, I was really disappointed with the overall presentation of the cake. I expected a normal bag of chocolate buttons being cascaded everywhere on to the cake. But I was only to be disappointed by a child size bag of buttons pouring over the top of the cake instead. The cake looked standard and wasn't worth paying £40. Had to add lots of chocolate stars and buttons to the side of the cake as it was bare. Only gave 5 days notice but I thought James' would exceed my expectations based on the reviews I've seen. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Would be ordering elsewhere next time ... maybe Patisserie Valerie.

I myself used to manage a sandwich shop- paninis are my all time favourite- im a panini snob haha! So my standards are high. I had a goats cheese panini today- which was absolutely amazing!! The panini was the most luxurious panini I've ever had. It was even seeded. & the quantity of goats cheese was very generous! The quality was gorgeous, I don't know how they do it for only £3.50!!!! I'm in love- I will definitely be back again! - the service was also great!

Everything is made on the premises, with natural ingredients.Somethings are glutein free. Lovely jam doughnuts and cream buns.

You won't find a better sandwich or cake than this and James is always willing to go the extra mile by cutting your cake how you want it or giving you a happy smile with your sandwich.

A really nice place and a super nice chap working there (good luck with the baby). Shortbread was excellent and bread was very tasty.

I had one of James' choux pastry with fresh cream and salted caramel. It was possibly the best thing I've ever eaten!! It was so delicious.

Love my Friday lunch time treat a baguette and cake from here always have different cakes always great and very hygienic always where's gloves and washes hands after handling money which lots of places don't!! Deffo recommend!! :)

My In-Laws live in Honiton and my Father-in-Law recommended James' Jam Doughnuts as being the best he had ever had, so i walked past the window to have a look.

Jamie serves delicious and generous baguettes and paninis, I hghly recommend the goats cheese and onion marmalade.

I popped into James' this week to buy a chocolate muffin. They are displayed in the window and look delicious. A muffin costs £1.50, which seems on the steep side, but I was happy to pay this based on the size and how aesthetically pleasing it looked. Unfortunately it was bone dry. The texture was as if it had been left out uncovered for two days. Because of the dryness I couldn't possibly comment on the taste. I was incredibly disappointed. I was also not impressed that the guy who served me did not use tongs and was not wearing gloves.

Lovely little place to stop for lunch! Lovely food and quite good service, little steep on price. Recommend the coronation chicken and egg mayo sandwich
