Great little coffee shop and tasty coffee. The staff are really friendly and they prize themselves on being a coffee shop for people with a wide range of disabilities and being able to assist in more ways making it an enjoyable experience for all. The food is all made locally and very tasty. Tables are all set out nicely and there is parking outside on the street. Take away coffees are also available.

What a great find! It was our first time visiting Ottery St Mary and we're so glad we found The Silver Otter café. It was a wet day outside but the welcome inside was very warm and friendly. Great service, good prices and tasty hot coffee (not a fan of tepid coffee!). Brilliant work too with supporting adults with additional needs who also made us and our dog feel very welcome.

This is a great cafe in Ottery St Mary. They make great coffee, meals and their Australian Crunch is amazing. Not only this but they do great work supporting people with additional needs. Very friendly - always a smile.

Stopped off for a late lunch of ham egg and chips, first impressions it's a bit like a transport cafe inside, nothing wrong with transport cafe's but that's not the way it presents itself, it has a fabulous farm shop with all sorts of wonderful produce but the ham in the cafe was thin wet and fatty (not at all good), Maybe they are two different businesses ???, I understand the full English breakfast is good have not tried it yet

Staff are very welcoming and polite. Food is a very reasonable price and the cakes are delicious! Highly recommend.

Staff always welcoming and friendly (Helen and Josh yesterday). Josh recommended the Victoria Sponge to accompany my pot of tea, I did not need much persuasion and the cake was delicious. The tea was piping hot and served in bright shining clean white china. Well done Silver Otter, I look forward to my next visit! 😊

A chance encounter but an excellent choice for a leisurely light lunch. Lovely service and lots of attention for our dog Monty. In his honour we ordered 2 Full Monty baps - highly recommended. We hope to return soon.

After standing in another Ottery coffee shop, waiting for the person behind the counter to stop chatting to his friends and serve us (we eventually walked out - don't think he noticed) we looked around and came across The Silver Otter. Very nice people serving, very nice cup of coffee and some delicious homemade cakes. Since then we always pop in when we're in Ottery. The cafe is a charity and helps people with learning disabilities gain confidence in the workplace, which is even more reason to support it.

Excellent prices and great food. Really helpful, filled my flask with coffee and water bottle re-filled too. Lovely staff . Dogs allowed in too. I would thoroughly recommend you visit if in Ottery St Mary.

*dog friendly* Lovely homemade cream teas, great coffee and the most welcoming staff. They employ adults with disabilities. This is the only coffee shop you need to visit. Support local, support a great cause. Recommend by TimeOut too!

The best cappuccino I've had in ages! I also had a bacon and brie toastie and the bill came to £6. Great value and such a worthwhile enterprise.

Lovely friendly and patient attitude, especially to their staff. The food and milkshakes are amazing.

We had brunch here and could not fault the staff who were very attentive. I understand this cafe participates in a scheme to train young adults and was glad to have supported that as opposed to paying a national chain cafe.

Welcoming service in a great location by the church. Easily catered for a vegan coffee and snack as well as a lunch menu and excellent millionaires short bread. Bright cheerful interior but no outside space.

Called in to this friendly cafe for coffee and cake during some. Dry wet weather. Lovely warm welcome and delicious cakes and well made coffee. Delighted to discover their role in supporting disadvantaged locals to develop their skills and self confidence working in the cafe. We need more of this approach. Thank you for being there.

Really can't understand how this place has got such good reviews.Went for lunch, had to wait a very long time for our meal. The soup was tasteless and the ham and cheese toastie was just a slice of ham & cheese in a soggy barely toasted sandwich. Side salad was just several wilted rocket leaves.The coffee cup was stained.We should have refused to pay & if it wasn't for the fact that a charity is involved they certainly wouldn't have been !Never again !

This brilliant little cafe not only serves great food and drinks but is also part of the Able2 Achieve charity and allows a way into the community for people with learning difficulties and mental health issues. Supporting a great charity, while helping wonderful people learn social and business skills and getting a great lunch - what more could you ask for? And the range of events in the meeting rooms is very impressive! Have visited many times with dogs after a walk and a newborn baby in a pushchair and have always enjoyed great service, friendly staff and good food.

This place is such an inspiration. The cakes are fantastic - millionaires shortbread so light it melts in your mouth , the carrot cake is so light moist and full of flavour. Into the bargain this cafe is helping those who need a little help and the co owner spent some time talking to us about this . Excellent coffee in a first class environment

I came to the cafe today and felt very welcommed as soon as I walked in. All the staff were really happy and chatty which was great, it has a really lovely feel to it. The coffee and cake is superb too, I'll definitely be back! This is a hidden gem in Ottery, and it's inclusiveness is fantastic! & wheelchair accessible

Great for lunches and coffee or tea, but the best thing about this place is the friendly atmosphere. High standards of food and drinks but relaxed. The social enterprise side of the business makes it even better.

This establishment is relatively new and is run by a charity. It is run by a very friendly lady. It has a limited menu which is great value. Also a range of cakes and pastries. The cafe is located in the building formerly the home of Barclays Bank. In my view well worth supporting.

I have visited the Silver Otter several times and it never disappoints. Nice relaxing atmosphere, lovely friendly staff and a great ethos. Yummy toasted teacakes.

My husband and I were in Ottery to mark my mum's 100th birthday. Although she didn't quite make it I wanted to be where she was born on the actual day, so it was a bit of a nostalgic visit. In this and every respect The Silver Otter suited us perfectly. The food was lovely and the Devonshire Apple cake suited my mood of nostalgia as my nan used to make it for me, and the taste transported me right back to childhood. The icing on the cake, so to speak, was the newly delivered juke box - not too loud as to bother other customers, but what a treat to relax and play the music of the '60s which transported us back to being 18 again - all free! The cafe is a community- minded enterprise run by a lovely lady who really cares, and her lovely young team. I cannot wait to go back next time we visit. Silver Otter deserves to thrive - trust me, you won't regret paying them a visit

Up until about 3 years ago this was our Barclays Bank, on our visit the Manageress was pleased to find out my son was an employ of Barclays and he had been stationed there for 12 plus years until it's closure.

We had a lovely lunch, then stayed chatting long enough to have room for more coffee and cake! All delicious in a relaxing and friendly environment. Will be back soon.

After shopping in the hot weather, I fancied a milk shake,rang our daughter who lives in Ottery,, she suggested The Silver Otter we had the most delicious milk shakes & carrot cake. Very friendly & appreciate feedback as it is a new venture. Well recommended

We visited this cafe last week when cycling up through Ottery and enjoyed the best toasted cheese sandwiches ever! It is easy to miss as it is on the left halfway up the hill towards the wonderful church but do find it and the service and ambience is lovely. The church is also worth a visit as it is a miniature copy of Exeter Cathedral - fascinating

We had lunch ( sandwiches ) which were freshly made with care & attention to what we requested along with coffee & tea , both noticeably tasty as we both enjoy freshly ground coffee.
