Very bad atmosphere in the restaurant hardly anyone in there for a Saturday night. Draft cobra good and roti ok. In comparison to other Indian restaurants in the Oxford area this is really not worth it very small portions the butter chicken was horrible tasted like chicken bathed in coconut milk and the vindaloo had about 3 pieces of chicken in it and wasn’t hot at all staff friendly but uninterested in there job and to top it off 65£ for 2 curries and 2 pints. Definitely won’t be returning and it doesn’t look like many others will be considering it was empty. Disappointed.

Perfect for a Friday night curry collection! Really enjoyed our meal, we’ll be back.

We ordered food from Jamal's for a house party and it was not where close to good Indian food. Overrated place

Today was the first time I went to dinner there. The food was delicious, I ordered Tandoori Tikka Masala (lamb), a nan and a mango lassi. Everything came out for less than €20. Very nice waiter, fast service. Without a doubt to repeat!

They catered for a big group of us .great service made us all feel right at home .

Last went 10 years ago! Glad to see it's still there. Was a quiet evening, not even half full. The food was very good, as I remembered. But, the service was very off-putting. The young female waitress obviously didn't have enough to do as it was quiet in there, so she kept looking over to see if we'd finished our starter, main course etc. She kept adding, can I take this away, have you finished with this etc! Not good because it makes you rush what you're eating. She wasn't friendly either. Could hardly smile. Totally off-putting and wrong person to work in a friendly restaurant. So food good, waitress service horrible. No tip.

Very poor customer service. Used to love this place. Go to the standard instead.

The worst experience I have ever had

Good service, but the main courses were very poor. The karahi had very little taste and no chili, and the korma was ridiculously sweet. The sides were good and the service quite pleasant. But with poor main courses we will not be going back.

Arrogant and not answering the phone. People call you for a reason like to tell you if their allergies before you make your dishes. Just appalled

Really nice food and good service. I had the mixed starter and then the chicken sat and both were very tasty.

The starters were over priced for the very small portion. The main was served luke warm, clearly microwaved or just heated up. Chicken was dry. We all paid extortionate service charge and overall paid £35 each for a poor meal. The only quality thing was the Beer

Our food arrived tepid. The dishes and plates were luke warm.. The waiter said this was normal.we asked him to heat it up. He did this begrudgingly. It came back the same. I asked him does he serve food at this temperature at home.. He said yes.. Hmmm. The food was tasteless and poorly presented. We make better stuff at home.. Up your game lads. It's a shame

Excellent supper,we were in Oxford for Hospital appointments,we ate here twice,really nice hospitable people and top notch curries,fresh tasting and delicious.

Big group of 15+ Food was really average Our server was really rude and impatient Some of us ordered for set menu, didn't even get the entire meal served. Portions for set meal were tiny. Still ended up paying a bomb. Lots of better restaurants in around Oxford. Never coming back to Jamal's again.

Always excellent, never disappoints. I’ve been a regular at Jamal’s for years and can highly recommend. I go for the lamb or chicken Kandahar, perfection!

One of the most uninspiring meals I’ve had in a long time. The raitha was just a lump of plain sour yoghurt with some cucumbers strips thrown at the side . It wasn’t even mixed. The Bombay potato tasted stale. The saag paneer tasted of nothing more than tinned spinach. The prawn curry lacked prawns. There was literally no redeeming qualities whatsoever. To top the experience, the popodums were missing and when we called them no refund was offered. No wonder the restaurant was totally empty. Never again. Absolutely do not recommend.

Tried this Indian restaurant based purely on the good reviews and I was definitely not disappointed. Friendly attentive staff, the food was superb from beginning to end, our friends were vegetarian so we got to hear from them how they felt and they were glowing about the standard of food. What was really pleasing was that they were genuinely interested in how we felt about the food and really wanted feedback. Everything was also piping hot, hadn’t been sitting around, especially the fabulous fluffy Naan bread. Loved it and will definitely revisit, can’t wait.

RED FLAG for ppl who expect respect and services as part of their dining experiences. As a regular here(no more), I used to take friends to Jamal's, for I had to say the food is good despite average service. Today the two staff truly CROSSED THE LINE by showing me and a visiting scholar, who wished to use a prepaid voucher of Jamal's provided by her institute, to a TINY UNPRESENTABLE TABLE AT A STORAGE CORNER in the dark inner area at 5.30 pm weekday when there were only two tables taken in the front area in the entire restaurant. "EAT HERE OR LEAVE HERE BECAUSE YOU ARE USING A VOUCHER" is what the staff went. Not to ruin the night of the visiting scholar, I requested a window seat as I was not using any voucher. The staff reluctantly led us to a window seat but left "EAT FAST". As we walked out in shock and extreme discomfort, a staff came and said "I'm sorry it's not me it's him (the other staff)". I had said nothing but obviously the staff knew they were behaving extremely wrong. We had a great night elsewhere!

Great food. Had the Chicken Naga. It is hot hot hot.

We ate dinner on a Monday night at Jamal's. The food was good and it's a really clean and tidy dining area. The draft Cobra beer was good too. My lower rating is because when the bill was presented it seemed more than I expected. It was very hard to read and we asked the server to explain. It turned out my meal had been incorrectly charged by £3 and there was a £5 service charge - critically marked s/c. At first the server tried to say that the service charge had to be paid, but then said it could be removed when pressed. Of course this makes the whole experience uncomfortable and spoils an otherwise great experience.

Went to Jamal's for a special birthday , with my wife's daughter, partner and 2 grand children, arrived a bit early, but that was no problem.The staff were good with the children and we settled down , the children were given there drinks straight away with some poppadoms. We were given the menus and the drinks came very quickly whilst we choose our food. The dining room has been upgraded with new decoration and new carpets through out looking really good. Our orders were taken and the food arrived with the starters coming out on time. Our vegetarian found plenty to choose from and the children ordered adapted choices. The staff as always were attentive and the mains arrived looking spectacular, all the food was cleared from the plates, with Peshawar Nan being the children's favorite . Real y good value for a meal for 6, highly recommend

Good food, had a madras with pilau rice and a peshwari naan, curry was not as hot as I would normally expect but it was very tasty. Only small criticism would be the lack of wet wipes and the standard after dinner mint that most other places do.

It was a quiet evening when we had dinner at Jamal's, but we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The place was very clean and the personnel were extremely friendly. The dishes arrived very quickly and they were all delicious! I particularly enjoyed the chicken rogan, and my family the lamb with korma sauce. Will definitely be coming back!

The food was excellent — we had some Chicken Tikka Starters, a Rogan Josh and a Buhna: would highly recommend. The service was great — really friendly host who was welcoming and very pleasant. A great family run restaurant — we will be back!

How great to return to the newly refurnished and quite modern Jamal's! It was a treat to visit again, now with kids in tow. The food, relaxed vibe, and hospitality were as good as my wife and I recall from more than 20 years ago, when we frequented as students. The food was excellent; creamy chicken korma with wonderful coconut texture, rich king prawn tikka massala, chana masala, and - the highlight - perfectly cooked Tandoori lamb shaslick - lean, wonderfully spiced, with just charred onions and peppers, lovely rice and naan. Washed down nice cold Cobra pints. Great to chat with our servers, especially Ali, who made us feel right at home again. There was a lively student group in the back - which brought a smile to my face - some things change in Oxford, but the best things stay the same!

As far as takeaways go, this was really rather nice. The highlights included a very tender lamb badami, and a rich butter chicken that wasn't overly sweet (although the amount of chicken was a little meagre compared to the amount of sauce). The mint chutney had a hint of a kick to it and wasn't as sweet as many of the other local takeaways' version! We opted for the mild biriani, but would probably go for a medium next time, as the spicing was delicate but had enough 'heft' in terms of flavour to stand up to a little more heat. The only down-side (which is why I had to knock off a star) was the flimsy packaging. I'd rather pay a little more for something sturdier - the cardboard containers, with foil lids, just didn't hold up to being removed from the bag, and I ended up burning my hand. That said, we would, however, order from Jamals again.

Excellent food, excellent service and all round excellent value. We were a party of 8 and finished every morsel between us. Highly recommend.

Such a refreshing change to see a menu these days and not pass out at the sight of the prices. And to finish the evening NOT thinking “Well, that was a rip-off.” Instead, a choice of delicious and reasonably-priced authentic Indian food. Not too much choice, either, suggesting everything was freshly and carefully prepared. There were eight of us and we chose a wide range of dishes: there wasn’t a scrap of food left at the end - even the salad disappeared - yet none of us felt over-full or bloated. It worked out around £25 each, with drinks. Great service and a lovely evening all round.

Lived in the local area for a few years never been here but a load of old guys outside could pick things up with their feet highlight of my life.

Really enjoyed an unexpected meal out. Would thoroughly recommend the paneer starter and the lamb patia. We had a range of food and shared and all went away full and happy. Not fine dining, but excellent local indian fare.

This once king of Oxford curry is not really close to that level any more, the decor is tired and the food is average but OK. The portion sizes of the starters aspire to cordon bleu and they are most definitely nowhere near that standard. Disappointing and don’t plan on returning - it is not that it is bad, just that there are more than a few better options.

Rice was promised but never delivered. Then waiter argued that it had been. Busy with big parties so under pressure. Pity as food was excellent.

When a waiter brings the bill and lies to your face about having served a dish it is impossible to give the restaurant anything other than a bad review. Had he made even a semblance of checking with this colleague I would have forgiven him. But, to argue with a customer that the customer was wrong is plain stupidity on the part of a waiter. The restaurant was busy with a large party for a festive lunch and could have politely tuned us away. As it was they didn't even bother to explain that there would be a half hour wait for service. To make life easy for the kitchen we ordered the set menu - 4 courses according to their web site, but nothing about the number of courses on the printed menu. What came was a plate of mixed starers; one lamb and once chicken dish and two different types of nan. No rice! The food was excellent and the ambiance is fine with proper napery, not paper serviettes. The lassis were also good quality and not too thin. So sorry, won't be returning because of the poor service. Eating out is not just all about the food.

Horrible experience being shooed away like vagrants 9.30pm that they were closed when the sign and all information says 11.30pm. The audacity of the host yelling at first time patrons who will not return. There was a large crowd and if it was a private event then why not put a sign up?! Avoid avoid avoid!!!

They did a great job of accommodating our party of 12 on a busy Friday night. Friendly, helpful, efficient staff and good food. Attractive Jericho location.

Excellent service food are very flavorful

I didn't order, but we had various dishes, chicken korma, dhalls, pineer aloo, veg biryarni, onion bhaji etc. There was plenty of food and it was enjoyed by everyone. Flavoursome without too much spice. We were told it would take 1 hour, within 30 minutes we were contacted to say it would be ready sooner. Brilliant service and delicious food. If I'm in the area again, Jamals will get a visit.

Flavoursome, authentic Indian food! We have eaten in and had a takeaway from here and the food is always amazing. I would recommend the lamb kandahar and chicken dansak. The service and value for money is also fantastic!

A flyer came through our door this week for Jamal’s Indian Restaurant/takeaway. It was awful overcooked and cold. We had onion Bajis and they were so overcooked and tasted old. Ali Gobi was cold and cauliflower was so overcooked you couldn’t see it. Chicken Tikka...

Went for lunch with reservation. Had the pathia and rice and chilly chicken starter. Homely taste, very affordable, and quick service.

Chose to try as a takeaway as a change to our usual. Staff were very helpful and came across very well. Delivery was on time. The portions were good but the flavour was lacking. We particularly found the rogan josh to be very bland.

This is a reliably great restaurant. We've been their customers for a few years (first started going there because they had the tastecard deal). Now we've ordered takeaway from them a few times. The food is consistently good and I'm especially happy that it's not overwhelmingly salty unlike in many other places - quite nice balanced tastes, feels healthy :-)

Vinimos a Jamals para almorzar, los platos que pedimos eran sabrosos, frescos y calientes. Toda nuestra comida salió rápidamente. Jamals ha sido un fijo en Jericó desde que puedo recordar que ahora tengo 55 años.Durante el encierro visité muchas veces y quedé muy satisfecho con mi comida para llevar.Pero ahora el restaurante vuelve a abrir para comer.Visité el jueves 8 de julio de 2020, los propietarios estaban muy contentos de vernos, el servicio era tan bueno como siempre y la comida era incluso mejor que nunca. Tuve un vindaloo de pollo muy picante servido con un orinal chot y un arroz hervido y un nan de ajo. Todo estaba muy bien cocinado lleno de delicados sabores y especias y absolutamente delicioso. Mi amigo cortejó y tenía un Madrás que era de la variedad de cordero, y era igualmente sabroso.Recomiendo encarecidamente una visita tan pronto como pueda, se han implementado todas las precauciones de seguridad para que sea un lugar seguro para comer.Y como siempre, fue una excelente relación calidad-precio.

Desde el cierre de este restaurante ha sido increíble, el servicio de entrega y la comida ha sido excelente, también le están dando a todas las personas que conozco en Oxford el mejor servicio. Muy orgulloso de decir que tenemos uno de los mejores restaurantes de Oxford. El personal es muy servicial y van más allá para hacer que el servicio y la comida sean excelentes.

La comida de Jamal es excelente, pero realmente toman la delantera con su servicio, que es muy amable y puntual. Hace poco pedimos comida para llevar, vinimos a recogerla y estábamos a dos cuadras de camino a casa cuando escuchamos nuestros nombres y el camarero de Jamal vino corriendo hacia nosotros por un solo naan perdido (que por cierto es delicioso). No conozco ningún otro restaurante que haga esto. 10 de 10, Jamal es por la victoria.

Our family came to Oxford to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From arrival to departure, this is an exquisite experience. The service is seamless, and our food is faultless. JamalSaffron thoroughly deserves it's reputation.

We were staying at premier inn & had heard of this restaurant. It was not too far but we'll worth it. The curry dishes were really good very tasty & good sized portions we had a very lovely Saturday. We were not rushed it was a lovely atmosphere. If you want a nice & fresh authentic Asian food. We highly recommend Jamals.

Me & my girlfiends travelled down to oxford for her birthday & found this restaurant when googling nice places to eat. We had amazing meal. The staff were incredibly friendly & made our night very special.My girlfriend was given a complimentary drink for her birthday. Definitely be returning on our next trip. We highly recommend heigh star. The staff did also ake us aware that they have increased their price & we were fine with that. Good food & staff price worth paying.

Fantastic good & great service as usual. All the staff a super friendly and very accommodating. The food speaks for itself, very flavourful! I highly recommend the chicken chilli or the lamb shank; these are my favourites.

Visiting back to Jamals again it was much better this time, the food was how it was before. The dishes we ordered were cooked to perfection & tasted very fresh.Very happy to dine back in my favourite restaurant. The price is so much better than other Indian restaurant we have been too.

In the entrance to Jamal's there's a big poster advertising a £7-95 two course lunch deal. This price was also shown on the menus we were given. However when our bill arrived the price was suddenly £8-95! When we queried this we were told the price had just been changed (while we were eating?) and we must have misread the menu. As "proof" we were shown a menu where the £7-95 had been crossed out (by hand) . Insisting that our menus had definitely shown a price of £7-95 I tried to sift through all the menus in sight. At this point a £2 refund was given with a warning that the price was about to increase yet again to £9-95! We used to like this place but I don't think we'll be returning.

We have dined previously at Jamal's and were happy. But on this visit, although the food was good as was the service and quiet, clean surroundings we were disappointed to be charged more than the clear price of dishes on the menu. When challenged, the waiter told us prices had been increased and menus had mostly been amended with a pen. However the menu we were shown at our table had not been amended - and neither had the menus displayed by the door of the restaurant. We were given a refund but left with the impression this might be a tactic used on certain customers. One member of the party is American and might have been assumed to be a naive tourist who could be charged more. This was very disappointing as we have long enjoyed Jamal's and never had a previous problem there. We would advise anyone to try to retain their menu so they have it as evidence when they pay their bill! Otherwise they, too, may find they are overcharged!

I've been eating at Jamals, and getting takeaways from them for many years. I don't know if it's something to do with the merger with Saffron, but it's a sad disappointment now. I've tried two home deliveries in recent weeks - one was an hour and a half late, and when the food arrived it was cold and greasy. Tried it again just recently, and the food, in fairness, did come promptly and was hot - and the naan bread was fresh and nice - but that's the best I can say about it. The samosas, which used to be crispy and packed with chunky potato and vegetables are now listless flat things filled with an unappealing paste (I think it's pumpkin). My main course was chicken saag, which had the distinction of being the blandest I have ever tasted from any Indian restaurant, ever. Totally flavourless. How is that even possible?

We visited this venue approx. 11.000pm on Sat. 21/12/2019. It was a very last minute decision hence late enquiry if we could get a table for 4 of us.

We had few friends visiting from London so decided to try the Jmalsaffron restaurant. Very easy to place a booking & I received an instant confirmation email. We were greeted by the waiter who directed to our table. After few minutes of perusing the menus our order was taken by a charming waiter ( not sure of his name). Service & food was excellent. Overall it's very nice restaurant & we very much recommend it.

Lovely birthday party at JamalSaffron. We all were made to feel so special & the food was so tasty. The staff were very attentive & made our night very special. The restaurant was very busy yet they made sure our party of 15 had a an area here we can be all together. We just moved from London & we were missing our best curry house. After searching for long time we found JamalSaffron. It was better than our curry place in London. Nice & airy restaurant, food was delicious & it was all fresh. Very happy we found this restaurant also it is near us too.. Chef special was the best choice we made...it had all our favourite dishes & we asked for them to make it bit hotter & it was just perfect. Chicken & lamb curry just melted in your mouth.

Brilliant night in on Saturday night, watching strictly come dancing & tucking into the mouth watering, finger licking samosa, hot & mild curry chicken & lamb curry. We are very blessed to have a curry house like JamalSaffron in Oxford. The staff are very welcoming & friendly. The traffic in Oxford really busy yet they do their best to deliver on time. Keep up the good work & thank you for feeding us the best curry ever.
