Jackson's Bistro in South Lakeland

Came across this Bistro on the first night of our few days break. It was so amazing we booked again for 2 days later. The staff are warm, friendly, attentive to detail and the customer care is second to none. The food is exceptionally good and very well priced.

Wow! I’ve been on a trip with my girlfriend to the Lake District over the last few days. We were recommended Jackson’s by the hotel we’re staying in, it really didn’t disappoint. Everything was perfect - the service, the staff, the food. We will definitely return! Thank you.

Jacksons was recommended as best place to eat in Bowness on Windermere so we booked a table and gave it a go. Two menus were available a la carte and a set menu which is what we decided to go for. For starters we has the cajun chicken pancake and cheese mushrooms both of which were excellent. For mains we both went for the salmon tagliatelle but with a different twist for each of us. One with a cream sauce with peas lemon and herb the other a mild (top end of mild) fruity curry sauce. Deserts were a sticky toffe pudding and apple and raspberry crumble and custard again both were excellent. The staff are all really friendly and nothing was a bother. We had an early sitting and by the time we were leaving the place was packed so if you want to try this place I would advise you to book. To summarise a great little friendly restaurant with good prices and excellent staff. So good as we left we booked for tomorrow so will try different menu choices and let you know how it is second time round.

Gorgeous meal. We went to Jackson’s for my birthday meal on a recommendation and would highly recommend. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient. It’s been a long time since I’ve left a meal out feeling so satisfied with the experience. We will definitely be back.

This was my partner and I's first time staying in Windermere so we wasn't sure where to go for a romantic evening meal. We went on trip advisor and looked for restaurants close to our hotel and Jackson's was a nice little walk from our hotel and given the amazing reviews thought we would try it. We didn't book but they were very accommodating and seated us straight away . The staff were very professional and tentative, we were never rushed and it was such a beautiful atmosphere! I had the fillet steak and it was so tender and delicious. My partner had starter main and dessert and he loved every single one. Just beautiful from start to finish, thank you so much for making our evening super special. What a gem!

Visited on 2 nights while staying in bowness. Food was excellent especially the ribeye steak and crème brulle with bananas and toffee sauce served on the side. Service was excellent would definitely recommend

What a great experience this was. They managed to squeeze us in with a late booking but despite this the pace of the meal was perfect and felt so relaxed. All three courses were amazing with big flavours and presented perfectly and the service was friendly and efficient from start to finish

Still the best restaurant in Windermere/Bowness. Always my go to restaurant as it never disappoints. Amazing menu, staff, atmosphere, and most importantly, super food. Definitely be returning soon. 10/10

Went for dinner on a Saturday night for dinner. It was a lovely feeling when we were in there (made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived) and the food was absolutely gorgeous. Had the 2/3 course menu. Very very yummy! Our B&B we stayed in recommended it, as did some folks we ended up chatting to in a pub on the Friday night. Can totally see why everyone did so!

Andrew and his team never fail to serve impressive food at a great price, the whole team are so attentive and helpful, it’s our go to restaurant every time we visit the lakes

All I can say is whoever put the menu together is a bit of a culinary genius. Excellent quality food, which is only equalled by the incredible value. The only thing I can add is if you are in the area it is a must visit.

Staff - The staff/owners help make this restaurant great. Jane was excellent! Menu - great choice and reasonable prices. Wine - good selection and not extortionate prices. Food - excellent, well cooked, flavoursome and good portion sizes. We will definitely visit again

We were given a warm welcome by Trevor and quickly seated. They didn't have my first choice of wine but recommended a very worthy substitute. Jenny the chef works wonders in the kitchen and we started with the soup and cajen chicken pancake, both lovely. I then had the lamb hotpot and my partner the beef bourginoine which were delicious. If you want excellent home cooked style food this is the place to go in Bowness. The evening was made extra special by meeting some lovely people on the adjoining tables. Thank you Jenny and Trevor.

First time here for an earlt dinner. Service was very friendly and efficient. They serve three courses for £24 which is very good value for the Lakes. The food is all well cooked. Jacksons has been here for as long as I can remember so it is obviously doing something right. We would come again.

The reviews that have gone before say it all really. This is a great place to eat and the 3 course price is ridiculously cheap for the quality of food. The service was friendly and attentive and every dish we had was well presented, good serving size and really tasty. Will definitely go back if in the area again.

Been to Bowness many times but this was our first visit to Jackson’s Bistro. Have to say we are massively regretting not having been before. The moment we walked through the door we were made to feel extremely welcome and Jenny’s cooking is second to none. Atmosphere is perfect, lots of choice on the menu, wonderful staff and the food is stunning. We will definitely be back!

Came here for valentines day with my date. Had an amazing atmosphere when we entered, staff were friendly and welcoming. I've lived in The Lakes for 23 years and I've been wanting to try this place for along time. Me and my date had a bread to start with a bottle of rosé to share. They gave us two menu's to chose from which was great. For our main we decided on the Duo Duck for each of us. It had great portion sizes and the duck tasted astonishingly good. I will definitely be coming back here.

Came across Jackson’s Bistro while on a weekend away in the lakes. The service was faultless, so attentive and friendly throughout and super fast. The food was very tasty and very reasonably priced (£24 for a 3 course meal). Perfect if you’re looking for a local meal out without breaking the bank.

2nd visit to Jacksons within six months & each time its been perfect food with excellent service too, The maitre d' here from Hungary is a real credit to the buisnees is always very friendly, Overall this is by far the best restaurant in Bowness !!!

We hadn't booked, wedding anniversary, but seen reviews so turned up Friday night, very busy, but they squeezed us in! Tiny restaurant, tables close but quaint, peroni on draught, nice, lovely set menu excellent value includes rib eye option, well cooked, fab vegetables, good service, great vegetable curry bit spicy but nice, will definitely return. Alternative a la carte looked nice too but set 2 or 3 course menu is really good value. Give this place a go.

Food is outstanding. We have had the crab on a mushroom to start and the fish sharing platter, all were outstanding. The duo of duck, salmon and cod skewer and lamb Henry all come very highly recommended for main course. The 4 desserts and cheese board again come highly recommended. Cute little place the staff were exceptionally friendly and the food was even better. Ended up having 3 courses since the first 2 were soooo good. Good options and good value for money!!! Not a complaint only recommendation, potentially invest in dimmed/mood lighting and it'll make the place even more quirky and lovely than it already is. Highly recommend!!

My husband and I came here early January, after reading some great reviews. It had taken us a few attempts by phone to make our reservation, but eventually we were all booked in, during a week night. The welcome was warm and very friendly. We went for a 2 course, I had the mushrooms to start, I had 3 half cooked mushrooms, which were just smothered in grilled cheese. My husband had prawns, which looked a good portion, for him to find, that they were on a large bed of lettuce. Very deceiving.For our second course, we both had beef bourguignon, I'd highly recommend tasting this before serving. It was extremely bland and nothing special at all. We felt that disappointed with the food, we popped into Tesco express on the way back to our hotel and bought some nibbles and took them back to our room. We had extremely high hopes.

Very warm welcome and lovely staff… the problem I had with this restaurant was the food. 1 star is generous and was given for the starters as these were edible. For two starters, two drinks and one main (as mine was refunded) £51!?!? Will not be visiting again and will be spreading the word.

We visited Jackson Bistro twice last week it was the best food it was delicious and well presented the wine was exceptional. The service was excellent with efficient, polite and courteous staff who obviously take a pride in their work. We will certainly visit again when we are next at Bowness.

Outstanding. From the minute we arrived we were looked after by front of house Trevor. Can’t fault anything. Food was perfect and a wonderful cheese board with a nice glass of Port. Local hotel closed their kitchen with short notice and the restaurant was flooded with extra customers. All handled with amazing skill. Total respect to all the staff.

We arrived without a reservation and weren’t optimistic as the place looked full but we were quickly sat in the very pleasant basement area. The staff (ran off their feet but never less than professional) really make this place; fun and engaging, friendly and welcoming. Our food was lovely, both well presented and delicious. We couldn’t believe that this was our first visit despite so many trips to the Lakes, but it won’t be our last.

Had a lovely meal. Restaurant exceptionally busy as probably the only one open due to power cuts. Service and food was good. Downside for us was the restaurant was really cold not like it was the last time we visited.

Would definitely recommend the service and the food was brilliant, i got steak was cooked to perfection. My husband had the burger which was lovely to.

We came here on Saturday to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday. I had seen great reviews and pre booked a few weeks earlier and wow it did not disappoint.AMAZING from start to finish!! Visited as solo female traveller. Couldn’t have been made more welcome. I’d pre booked couple of days before & only availability was early but no problemOrdered G&T & bread selection while I perused menu. Eaten here before but wanted to have something different. Starter of Cajun chicken pancake was tasty/cheesy. Asked to rest between courses as I don’t like to rush food, no problem. Ordered chicken bolognese for main which I’d seen on menu before but dismissed without reading properly. It was lovely, served with fresh veg (beautifully presented). Waited a while then ordered desert of berry meringue which came with candle in it & staff singing happy birthday as I’d mentioned I was treating myself after a Big birthday last week. Such a lovely compliment. Treated myself to a liqueur coffee to finish off the evening & was asked if I’d like a complimentary drink for my birthday. Can’t fault this place. Been coming up to Bowness for several years & always try to eat here but this is first time for 3 years & it hasn’t disappointed.Friendly, food excellent & nothing too much trouble. Would visit again tomorrow but they fully booked!!! Says it all.

Just celebrated our 3rd anniversary at Jackson’s Bistro. Accommodated us at short notice& made us feel most welcome. Cannot fault either the food or the service. Staff were very friendly & polite. We ordered 3 courses from the set menu which was excellent value. Gave our compliments to the chefs & other staff at the end of our meal. We will definitely be visiting again the next time we are in Bowness.

It is the first time we have been here and what a fantastic choice. We was shown to our table very quickly and had our drinks in no time at all. There is a choice of a set menu for £22 for 2 courses or £24 for 3 or you could choose from the Al La Carte menu. We had Garlic Bread with cheese to start and it was delicious. Main course Mash and Beef Bourgenois and again delicious and beautifully cooked and dessert was the most gorgeous Chocolate and Toffee Cheesecake which was amazing. All in all excellent food, excellent service and a lovely atmosphere. We would highly recommend.

After reading the reviews, we were excited to try Jackson’s. It was busy and we were given a cosy table. The food was ok. Id say that it was average. The best course was the dessert: berry meringue. Service was quite quick and the staff were pleasant.

We have never eat in here before but as we never been able to get booked in. Walked past+asked if they had any tables. One table in the full restaurant left+when you get the food you understand why. Absolutely amazing. The restaurant had a great buzz about it+it was busy all night. Definitely one of Bowness’s hidden gems xx

Try the cheesecake... But the other food is good too and at reasonable cost. The service was good & friendly too, which was a bonus.

Very accommodating we arrived late because stuck on M6 but it wasn’t a problem at all service was quick food was amazing and the staff so friendly would definitely recommend 100% We will be back 😊

We lucked into a table here, walking past one night looking for somewhere that looked to have a good mix of vegetarian and meat dishes and found they had just one table available for the next 1.5hrs so we took it. Hadn't read any reviews for anywhere but thought this place looked nice and cosy from the outside. Glad we did, the service was excellent, friendly but not overbearing, and the food was delicious and varied. Good wine list too. We had the soup of the day - which was the best & freshest tasting leek and potato I've eaten in a long time - fresh baked bread, pate, gammon with shoestring fries (husband still raving about a week later!), and a lovely roast veg and Broad bean stroganoff I'm going to have to try and recreate at home - or just take the two hour train back to eat here again.

We ate here last week and the food was excellent. We had the lamb and the duck, followed by creme brûlée which were all lovely. The service was excellent and the staff were really friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back if we return to the area!

Whenever I’ve visited Bowness, I’ve always gone to Jackson for food. So far, they have not disappointed once, and my latest visit was just as good. The food and service were brilliant and the current meal deal they provide gives a good variety of dishes at a very good price. If you choose to go, I’d advise booking well in advance.

This bistro was recommended by family members and so we booked for a 40th birthday celebration. We had a lovely meal and excellent service from start to finish. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Thank you to all the team there for making our night a special one.
