Comida encantadora!

Visited today for brunch with a friend. Such a lovely place to sit and have a catch up. I have coeliac disease and there was plenty of choice for me. The salted caramel brownie is to die for, had to bring a bit home as the portion was so generous. My friend had a sandwich and cake, both of which were well presented and yummy. Tea and coffee were both very nice too. Will be recommending for sure 😊

Whether it's just a cup of coffee, a slice of delicious homemade cake or a satisfying lunch I have never experienced anything other than excellence on any of my very many visits to Armstrong Ward's delightful cafe. The menu is fairly concise which is one of the reasons everything tastes so fresh and delicious, it has plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options whilst not completely eschewing the carnivores amongst us. Seating is also spot on, as it's wheelchair and pushchair friendly and they haven't tried to squeeze in too many tables and ruined the ambience as I'm finding in far too many restaurants of late. Prices are also a very pleasant surprise, after trying the ultimate afternoon tea I thought they'd made a mistake with my bill as it was under a ten pounds per person all in. They also serve the best cup of coffee for miles, and the cheese scone with butter and gumbo is my 'must try' pick. I just wish they served breakfast!

I visited the Armstrong Ward cafe earlier this week whilst in Kendal for a light lunch. First impressions were good, with an inviting selection of homemade cakes on the counter. We ordered drinks and one sandwich from the specials board and two tomato and lentil soups. There appeared to be only one waitress serving so the drinks took some time to arrive. Following this, the sandwich and soups came. Disappointingly, the soups were stone cold, which I wouldn't have had an issue with had they been heated up promptly. However, the waitress took the soups away (without a word of sorry) and continued serving the other customers. We waited an unacceptably long time for the soups to return, with other members of staff coming bringing clean dishes etc. out in the meanwhile; our lunch seemingly bottom of their priorities list. After finishing the sandwich and drinks and waiting a little longer, we gave up and went to pay, at which point the warmed up soups appeared from the kitchen. We explained it was too late as we had finished everything else and the car park was up. The waitress again failed to apologise for the mishap and we were still charged for everything else...I left having no lunch and having to buy a sandwich at M&S - unlikely to return!

Secretly hidden underneath the delightful Armstrong ward shop, packed with gifts ranging from cath kidston bags to candles to furniture. This cafe certainly is Kendall's hidden gem.The cafe itself is nicely designed with pretty colours and plenty of seating. The staff are extremely welcoming and probably one of the best teams we have ever been served by. It may appear like there isn't a lot of cake choice but there was more than enough choice for this simple cafe. We had the carrot cake and sour cream and blueberry cake, both were a good size and DELICIOUS! Also the tea range again is limited but the flavors that are available are wonderful. Our only criticism is the tea pots, I personally don't feel stainless steel teapots suited this cafe and did slightly ruin its appearance however this didn't ruin our wonderful experience.WE have visited Kendall a few times before and always struggled to find somewhere to eat that suited us so to find this delightful and relaxed cafe has definitely encouraged us to visit more often.

We sat at a table covered in the remnants of someones meal which nobody had bothered to clear although they didn't seem to be busy. There is no waitress service so I ordered tea for two and was astonished to be asked for £4.95!! When I queried the price I was told that it was 'real tea'. not sure what else they would put in it. We decided to cut our losses and went across to Booths for half the price and a comfortable settee to sit on and table service. DEFINITELY won't be back - has to be the most expensive tea in Cumbria.

I visited today with my 4 year old son, he had the children's menu where you could choose one item from each box. It was ok but we got no butter with the bread and I had to ask for his drink twice. The desserts on the menu were also not available and he had to have blackcurrant ice cream - he'd got his heart set on vanilla with chocolate sauce from the menu.My sandwich was nice, ham & roasted tomatoes. However at £5.95 this was really expensive considering I only got 2 very thin slices of ham - less than was on my child's plate. I would have had the soup as this looked nice, but they had run out.The service needs to improve. I felt the staff were aloof and it didn't feel very friendly. It's a shame as the cakes looked amazing. Perhaps this place is better just for coffee & cake rather than actual lunch.

So glad I found this little cafe on a recent trip to Kendal. It's on two levels, the cafe being on the ground floor, above is a craft/ furniture shop, with some absolutely stunning gifts for sale. The cafe itself was spotless, so unique and contempory, with super friendly staff and gorgeous homemade cakes for sale. The menu is quite small, but with some nice sandwiches, salads, soups etc. There was also a specials board up, I had the goats cheese and beet root salad, and my mum had a butternut squash and feta quiche with salad. When the food arrived it was beautifully presented and came with some freshly sliced chunky seeded bread which was a nice touch, we both said our lunches where one of the nicest we had tasted. We couldn't resist a cake and had one of the delicious homemade brownies, which was to die for, seriously soft and chocolatey!! Amazing! Wish we lived closer! This is a half cafe, half shop. You can browse gifts items, perfumes, furnishings and many other luxury goods downstairs and cards and furniture and traditional children’s toys upstairs. Once the drain of shopping sets in you can retire downstairs for a rejuvenating good tea or coffee or even a light snack. The food is straightforward and simply presented. They will encourage you to come back with a loyalty card which is stamped for purchases over £5. It is probably not a good place to take children, the furniture and food are geared up for the adult market. Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

We have been here many times over the years and love it. Dropped in for a drink last week. Wooooah! £9.80 for a Prosecco and a pint of cider shandy is the same price as a pint of cider - about £7. So by that maybe a pint of lemonade is also £7? I’m sure many people stop for a drink while walking in the beautiful lakes but next time we might find another stopping point. Although living in the North East maybe we just have cheaper pubs up here??!!

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.
