It great for short snacks or meals the chips are good which I think is natural for all chipys in the uk and the staff are polite and friendly it not too pricey but good if visiting and is my favourite chpiy in southport

The best fish and chips I have tasted in Southport. Delicious thin batter and chips cooked perfectly. Lovely staff, really helpful with the children’s requests.

We decided to have a ride to Southport on Sunday afternoon we live around 30kms away but the travel is worth it to have a great tasty portion of fish and chips at Jackson's, the fish is nice and fresh and flakey my wife had fish and peas I opted for the cod special. We have been here a few times and it never disappoints unlike some of the other fish shops, the staff are nice and friendly the restaurant is spotless there is something on the menu for everyones taste it's not expensive, definitely value for money in my opinion

Delicious food! 2 haddock specials on a wet Saturday afternoon. Think it'd good value for money and the service was great. When I come southport this chippy is my usual go too. You can take out or eat I like to eat in. Peas are stunning potion sizes are good all in all is a solid 9/10

Called here years ago, then first time back in Southport last year so revisited, its just excellent. Been back 4-5 times now for the daily special, but the prices seem to rise on each visit ? I cant keep up with it lol. Excellent food and service etc, but will have to reduce visits due to high prices sorry. Love your place but just wary of prices sorry.

We last ate here 3 or 4 years ago and then stopped due to poor fish. We tried again and were impressed with the improvement. Fish was meaty and well cooked with not too much batter. Chips were a little soggy but I think that’s more down to personal taste. Will order again.

We called in here for fish n chips today after a walk around the shops both of us had the cod special with the added bonus of scraps, a good size portion very tasty and hot we both enjoyed it excellent value for money.

Fish was absolutely delicious the batter was so thin and crispy 10/10. I will now be making my place of choice from now on.

brilliant. Had fish, chips and spicy curry sauce. Could not rate it any higher. All freshly cooked, as it should be, no fish sat in they heater waiting to be sold. Seen some of the reviews below and saying not so good. Maybe I was lucky but been on my own today and previously with partner and sat in the cafe style sitting area to the side of the restaurant and all good. Prices as expected, Fish, chips and curry sauce was £9.60.... thought good value as quality was great. Could have been expensive if quality was poor but for what I got, I was more than happy with that. Back soon for more!

Visited on a day trip, potion size very small, fish was at least 50% batter. Definitely will not return and advise others to eat elsewhere. 😔

Prices up, portion size down, I know all overheads are up, but you either reduce your portion size OR increase costs, do both together and you're on a downward slope, been going here for years but it's a shame will be looking elsewhere from now on

They brought mums scampi and the portion of chips for our meal out but not the chicken and fish the chips were cold by the time they arrived I asked for the chicken breast to be well done and crispy it smelled and looked like they had defrosted it in microwave then quickly dipped it in the fat as skin was soft non of the chicken was crispy and did not taste nice! there was barely any fish mainly batter, the coffee was that bad mum asked if it was tea or coffee and the price was ridiculous for 1 can of pop 1 tea 1 meal one fish one chicken one chips. the one who served us the food couldn't be bothered

We went for a day trip to Souhtport and we always have a fish and chip lunch when we go to the seaside. We had a lovely lunch the food was piping hot and the fish was lovely with light crispy batter there was plenty to eat and a nice hot cup of coffee to go with it. The staff were very friendly and quick service.

This is the finest fish and chips you’ll find in the north west by a long way. We go here now and again when we are out that direction, it’s worth the journey every single time The fish is absolutely perfect

On a busy hot day in Southport, what better than having fish n chips. Jacksons fish n chip shop, 3 cod specials, bread and butter, and a mug of tea. Lovely. The staff still have time for you (even though busy). At £9.90 per person, it's still good value.

Called into the takeaway part and just ordered a cone of chips. Place is spotlessly clean and prices are reasonable. Had the chips sat on the promenade and nice an crisp, not greasy

Approaching Jackson’s there was a staff member outside asking people if they was queuing then pointed them to the distancing lines on the path +walked inside shaking her head.On placing our order there was no smile no hello+when I asked for batterd jumbo sausage the staff member serving me asked the fryer if he was doing batterd jumbos to which he replied NO There was no sorry we not doing them just a straight NO.When one of my haddock came out the fryer I asked the person serving me to let it dry for a while+he asked the fryer if the second haddock was ready to which the fryer replied what’s wrong with that one pointing at my haddock and the person serving said he wants it draining for abit and the fryer just started shaking his head.On receiving our food order I asked if I could have a couple of forks to which he replied there in the bag+handed it over to me with no thanks or bye or see u again just nothing.I didn’t see any of the staff behind the counter smile once.when we proceeded to open our food we found the curry sauce tub less than half full+mushy peas just over half full.would not recommend it not a pleasant experience.

Brought an Auzzie and someone who hasnt lived in the UK for over 6 years because they wanted fish n chips..... its a bit pricey, but the food is fresh cooked and nice... the vinigar is certainly watered down, and the tables quite small.

In an age where chips get smaller and fish is of unknown origin, here you can indulge in a traditional plate of fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter with a cup of tea. Delightful

What a breath of fresh and food, I live in the USA and not one restaurant that I know of comes close to this place. Great food and the staff are wonderful. Wish I could have taken some of the food home with me, yummy.

First time in this fish and chip cafe. Fab chips and lovely fish in a nice light very crispy batter. Both had the special - cod and chips with mushy peas, bread and butter and a cup of tea. Food nice and hot and fresh. Staff pleasant. Cafe clean. Reasonably priced. Will definitely return.

The young man serving at the counter could really do with learning some basic manners such as ‘please’. The food was average, nothing special.

Usually go the Swan in Southport which I rate very highly biggest complement I can pay Jacksons is this is every bit as good and slightly cheaper.We had the Haddock special beautiful fresh fish in great crisp batter perfectly cooked chips and mushy peas bread and butter and a big pot of nice tea.All this and friendly efficent staff.Highly recommend this chippy we will go here again when we visit Southport.

On A day out to southport we decided that Fish&Chips were the thing to eat on a cold day, We had been to Jacksons once before and remembered how good they were so we went in sat down our order was taken and we were not Disappointed they were without doubt the best we had ever had Light crispy batter and well cooked chips. Do give Jackson a visit when your next in Southport .

Called in Jackson's for lunch with friends as part of our visit to Southport there of us had fish and chips I must say I was very disappointed the chips were ok but the fish was very very thin I was particularly disappointed because I had recommended Jackson's to them ,we have been going there for years but I am sorry to say that's our last visit

Ate here today, got the fish and chip special but did not want a drink however we still got charged for a drink? Mine was quite nice but hubby's fish was dry and mainly batter, seating bit cramped.

Im so glad we chose this restaurant ,fish,chips and mushy peas with tea bread and butter for £8.40.The food was lovely,fresh fish and lovely batter.The chips were amazing ,fresh and crispy ,possibly some of the best ive had anywhere.The place was clean and the service was very good.Would use again

We have had takeaway but not eaten but we did today. I had classic fish chips peas. Cooked well fish crumbled as you touched it melted in your mouth beautiful.

Tried a few other places. This by far the best I've eaten. Cod Special was very tasty, the peas also, the cod was fresh and batter crispy, chips cooked well. I'll be back and will now walk past the others.

Firstly the mug I got with my tea for milk was dirty ,full of sour dried milk .I did complain.I ordered the haddock special.wasn't told it came with skin on.

We visited 2/7/19 around 1230hrs... friendly staff.. ordered fish, chips,peas,bread and butter and two teas... served freshly cooked and hot.... we’ve been here quite a few times now and we’ve never had a bad meal yet!! Reasonably priced—£16.80..

We went to Southport yesterday by train, we went into Jackson’s fish & chips shop for our tea, it was excellent, we wouldn’t go anywhere else, the fish is gorgeous, and the chips are real chips. It’s very clean and you don’t wait long for your meal. I wish we lived closer and could go in twice a week!

What can I say other than this was one of the best, if not the best meals I've ever had. Came down with the wife to Southport for a little anniversary holiday and made a stop off here. Although the weather was a bit hit or miss the food was amazing!

I visited this establishment whilst on a day out,has we arrived we was the only customers in,we gave our order to the waitress who greeted us with a smile and a hello,we waited about 10 mins for our meal to arrive,we ordered the Cod and Chips Special for £8.40 it was really enjoyable. By the time we had finished the place was full,i can certainly understand why. Lovely food and lovely staff,will certainly go again.

but then its hard to find a bad chippy in Southport. Chips were nice, similar to Harry Ramsden’s or the Swan in that they have a dryness similar to dripping but seem to be vegetabular in origin, crispier than the Swan’s but not as crisp as the Sandgrounder’s across the road. Fish was a little on the small side, nice light crisp batter but patchy. More like the Sandgrounder’s than the heavier batter at the Swan but the Sandgrounder gives a better coating & is the only one of the 3 that you can properly taste the flesh of the fish.

A typical traditional seaside fish and chip shop. Went in at around 1pm on a busy sunny February afternoon. Had to wait for the cod but then we walked out with super fresh fish and chips and ate whilst walking along the pier. Excellent.

called 3/2/19 we had fish chips and peas tea bread butter deal served very hot and lovely smile on the server very clean we sat near the kitchen so we could see in the tables were wiped down and clean very helpful we will call again next time in Southport

Absolutely true to label. Great pies, gravy and chips. Very reasonable prices. On a cold winter’s day Jackson’s was very warm and inviting. Friendly and quick service. Payment is cash only; no cards.

Brought a visiting friend here on Saturday, and we had a lovely time. The food was fresh, not even slightly greasy and the portion sizes are just right. For £8.20(each) we got a large piece of battered fish which was delicious, proper chips, the most amazing mushy peas, bread and butter and a pot of tea each.

Went to Jackson’s at Southport thurs 5th Sept 2018, when we go to Southport we always go there. The fish chips and peas is excellent, bread and butter and a pot of tea for two. The staff are really friendly and polite and the restaurant is really clean. I wish they were located near I live I’d have it 3 times a week

Having a day trip to Southport,a few rides at Pleasure Land,a walk by the lake & some sight seeing at the shops we found ourselves on Neville Street & Jacksons chippie.

This is a simple cafe where you can buy chip shop food as well as sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc. The food is tasty and fresh and we enjoyed fish and chips with buttered bread and mushy peas.

Really nice fish tea. We both had the special which came with team and bread and butter. Our 4 year old enjoyed her chicken and chips too. Would recommend.

Was really looking forward to eating here as I've been going there a couple of times a year for a long time. Unfortunately they let themselves down badly yesterday. The fish was batter with some fish in it and the chips were rock hard and cold. And to cap it off my husband had paid before I asked how much it came too. I thought they had charged us for 2 specials, rather than 2 meals and a bottle of water so he paid £2 more than he should. I will never go in again

Went in here today and in my opinion it is the best chippy i have ever used. Fast efficient service, excellent choice of traditional chip shop fare. Large portions, spotless building and a constant supply of customers Definitely use again

We had read the reviews on this restaurant and as they were glowing we were keen to try it. We ordered plaice, chips and mushy peas and coffee. This was served up promptly by friendly, cheerful staff and was excellent. There was also complimentary bread and butter which we declined and glad we did as our meal was plenty big enough. Huge fresh fish with light, delicious batter, proper chips and mushy peas which were plentiful and tasty (they can often taste of soda but these didn't). We would go there again if visiting Southport.

Visited Southport for the first time in about 8 years today (Sat 21st April) as it was beautiful hot weather & as my Mum is in a wheelchair now it's a good flat town to push her in. Was a bit shocked how Lord St had gone downhill, lots of empty shops & charity shops, but that's the way of the world now unfortunately. Still it was nice to walk on the pier & over the bridge etc, plenty of people enjoying the lake. When the 4 of us wanted lunch we decided to try Jacksons, it looked popular & clean. We ate in the cafe though there is takeaway too. All 4 of us ordered haddock & chips with 1 peas, 1 beans,bread & butter,3 teas & a coke. The tables & chairs are screwed to the floor & are positioned very close together, this felt a bit uncomfortably squashed up. The waitresses were pleasant & efficient & were rushed off their feet. The food came in good time & was piping hot, the batter was lovely & crispy on the fish, the fish itself was white & tasty though rather thin & had skin attached (this is probably the case with most seaside fish, however it does put our son off a bit seeing the skin but if that's how they do it.....)The chips were not greasy & were nice too. There are a few little niggles, the tea came ready in the cup so was too strong for some & not strong enough for others, there were horrid plastic stirrers instead of spoons, the bread & butter was a bit cheap & the toilets are upstairs so my disabled Mum couldn't use them & had to go to the arcade opposite to use the toilet. Overall the food was good value for the price & it's a down to earth fish & chip cafe that doesn't pretend to be anything posh so we would probably return if we were craving a traditional fish & chip lunch in Southport.

These have to be the best fish and chips in the world. We visit Southport 2-3 times a year and look forward to a Saturday lunch here. Amazing quality but please cut the bread and butter diagonally. That's all. Superb.

Really crispy delicious batter on the cod,no soggy coating. Chips were perfect, crispy and golden brown. A few fish n chip shops in the town have gone down hill,so we went out to try a different one and we were glad we came to Jacksons, New favourite place.

We used to visit here many times for lunch, and always enjoyed the well cooked food and good service. Having not visited Southport for a long time we returned today and were glad to see that the standard is still as good as ever

We travel over from Preston to get our chips and gravy here. They are the best we have ever tasted. Can't comment on the restaurant as we have only had take away.

Excellent value, quick service staff so friendly, great value for money, and my my ,those fish and chips outstanding, first rate at any time of the year. When only fish and chips will do, don't go anywhere else and don't get me started on the mushy peas yum.

My second visit and it is still the best chippie in Southport. Surrounded by inferior competitors so don't be tempted to go elsewhere. It is a lunchtime destination for takeaway or eat-in dining

We have been eating Jackson's superb fish and chips for many years and, although prices have risen over that time the quality and portions have always been of a high standard. The fish is good, the batter melts in the mouth and the chips are well-cooked but not remotely greasy. We always recommend Jackson's to friends who are heading to Southport and we've never heard anything but praise back from them. Southport is a beautiful town that appears to be in decline, but its shops, other attractions and people are first rate. Jackson's is the jewel in the crown!

Ideal place for fish, chips and peas lunch, waitress service, very efficient and quick service. Food was excellent, freshly cooked, arrived at the table very hot, served with bread and butter with a cup of tea or coffee. Very good value for money.

What a great chip shop, i didn't eat in i used the takeaway, what fantastic food i had pudding, chips and gravy and my daughter had chicken nuggets and chips the pudding was crammed with meat and the chips were one of the best meals I've ever had will definitely be going back again when I am next in Southport

Excellent, service,food & value.We first visited this cafe 3 years ago & enjoyed the food. Today was our long overdue return visit.Despite being very busy, the service was very quick, the fish & chips were delicious & a good sized portion. The cod special meal of cod, chips,peas, bread & butter & a choice of tea or coffee all for £7.90 excellent value. Would highly recommend & must try not to leave it another 3 years before returning again.
