We called for our lunch and both ordered the scampi with "proper chips" as stated on the menu. When it arrived it was not a very good portion of food. The "proper chips" were actually thin potatoes with the skins on and they were very greasy and unpleasant. When we questioned the waitress we were told that is what you get with the scampi as though we were in the wrong. We said it says "proper chips" on the menu and that we could not eat the chips we were given. She was not customer friendly to say the least. She said she would go and check the menu and give our comments to the chef. We waited but she did not come back and so we left. Ruined our lunch and at £13.95 per plate it was not cheap. We will not be going there again.

Had a strange experience with mixed food standards. We went her for lunch as the menu outside said they did an all day breakfast. Turns out this is only if you want the standard breakfast and not the veggie one. They stop serving the vegetarian one at 11.30. Strange when they continue to serve the standard one all day! So instead my husband ordered a panini and that was fine. I ordered a jacket potato with prawns and that was literally what I got, no butter, no mayo, no Marie Rose sauce, literally just poor quality prawns on a baked potato. The potato itself was under cooked and till hard and had roots growing out of it so I dread to think how old it was. To try to make it better I asked for some mayo, to be told they don’t stock mayo, only brown or tomato sauce. What kind of restaurant doesn’t have mayonnaise??!! The waitress just then walked off. When she came back I asked if maybe they had salad cream? She said she would see what she could do and asked me if it said on the menu if it came with sauce. Surely the staff should know the menu! A few minutes later the waitress comes back with a pot or Marie Rose sauce. It really was the strangest experience. Even the couple at the next table commented what kind of restaurant doesn’t have mayonnaise. I would not recommend this place, nor will we be returning.

We revisited this restraunt today as last year's visit was good, not sure what's gone wrong!! We ordered fish, chips, mushy peas and bread and butter for my husband and a fish for myself. The batter on the fish was hard and overcooked, the chips were not fresh, the peas were dry and no butter for the bread. Even though I only requested a fish I still had to pay for chips!!! 2 fish, 1 chips, 1 mushy peas, 1 bread, 2 teas cost me £34, disgusting plus poor quality

Absolutely gorgeous place to stay. Bang in the centre of everything we were looking for. Rooms Absolutely beautiful and super clean, staff lovely and so helpful. Beautiful views of the sea and harbour from our room. Only 1 downside.... wish we'd stayed more than just one night. We will 100% be back and would totally recommend 👌

Terrible! Waited ages for food. Once the meals came 2 meals were missing from our already paid order. One waitress came over and said payment is correct but didn't reach kitchen correctly. Then that the 2 missing meals would be a priority. So we waited another 20 minutes and then another waitress came and said you can have a refund or the 2 meals can now be made. We already waited again! So we said no give us a refund now as we waited twice. She came over with the cash and we said thanks, she rolled her eyes, looking up to the ceiling and muttered in a rude manner "you're welcome"! She treated us as if we were in the wrong. Oh yes and what's more not a single apology for ruining our evening with my 2 elderly parents, 90 years old and 85! Please avoid the place. The menu is also very limited. It was not as if it was busy either. They also gave the 2 meals we got correctly to a couple who came in after us, but we let that go. We are polite and patient people, but that service was by far the worse we have ever had. How hard is it to apologise?

Visited this place before COVID and it was brilliant,lovely food.We visited on the 16th September and we had tea and scones .Tea was beachy and tasteless like washing up water to be honest,and the scones were hard and stale.The decor looked tired and dirty and the WC and sink looked filthy.so sad to see this little once gem gone down hill so badly ,very sad.Got to be new owner or something,but its terrible

One knew the tea from first sip was dreadful. Weak, tasteless and the water was not hot enough, to fuse the tea sufficiently. This bade an unwelcome for taste of the Fish and chip lunch. The batter so hard it took considerable force to break it. The fish inside was so thin as to be inedible, over cooked, the oil needing change, and the meal tasteless but for an ‘off’ odour. Time taken from our initial sit down to completion was over 90 minutes. Not worth the wait, and if we had known of the outcome, we would have demanded our money back. Not a place to eat or drink. Our preferred place of dining had the day off, and only snacks were available, hence we crossed the road. WISH WE HAD NOT!

My wife and I went to Scarborough on the 23/7/23 for the day. We had breakfast here and I must say it was outstanding we will be going again next time we go to Scarborough.

Oh dear, ideal location but dreadful service three members of staff without a clue between them the fact there has been no training is obvious, we waited so long my hunger was long gone the owner needs to sort the problems out and I suggest that shorts are not a good look for food servers they may have custom in the Summer as the customers don't know how dire it is but locals talk. Just a note to the kitchen don't leave the bread under the hot lights!

Stopped by this cafe as were in need of a rest and a drink/bite to eat. Absolutely fantastic friendly staff. Clean and bright with fantastic decor. Us and the dog were made welcome and none stop servcie from start to end. Reasonable prices too and for what we paid the quality of food was absolutely fine. Hopefully be back again at some point.

Just wanted to find somewhere for a quick bite. Popped in here and my expectations weren’t high but cheap and cheerful was all we wanted. Looked like a typical seaside cafe which would do the trick. However ………. My low expectations were lowered even more! Seaside scran of poor quality and really slow service. The service was slow due to sheer disorganisation which was astonishing to watch. It would take 3 ppl to pour a drink then one to take it out. Possibly a policy to be slow with the food so customers buy more drinks? Really clueless tbh and the food was shocking! This actually gives seaside cafes a bad name. Please avoid!

Saw the pensioners lunch deal thought we would try it as standard portions too much for us. Told on arrival 30 minute wait. Terrible customer service no one updated us (we had plenty of time as it happened so thought we’d see how long it took) and after 2 hours waiting they said they would chase up our order. Food delivered a short while later saying it had the wrong table number on it …mediocre quality some chips not cooked through others cold. To be honest they would be better closing today everyone was complaining. The staff weren’t bothered at all. AVOID AT ALL COST IF YOUR IN A RUSH

Do not go here we were informed they had no fish which is odd due to location when the food eventually came it was cold both mine and hubbys 2 seperate items the dtaff were surly and seemed to take it personally when i said my beans on toast were cold when it came back the toast wasnt it was luke warm bread that was toasted in the middle of it .The meal came to £30.15 which seems alot for 2 bacon rolls. 2 teas. 1 beans on toast. A childs sausage beans and chips and 2 cokes i will not be going back. As a side note the table next to us of 3 people one meal came out and she had finished her meal before the rest appeared when the lady asked where their food was she was told were busy .

waited for nearly an hour before the waitress came to tell us they'd made a mistake and the pizza topping we 'd ordered wasn't available, when I asked if that meant that hadn't started cooking it yet she said "well it only takes two minutes" it actually took another 10 minutes. When we complained about how long we'd waited she argued about how long we'd waited and said they had been busy and what did we expect from a sea front cafe at Easter. Well we expect better service and less atitude for a meal that cost over £80. Poorly managed , zero customer care and average food, will not be going back.

What a dreadful experience; my wife and I took our family out for lunch as a special treat. We had to wait for over and hour for our meals to arrive. When we complained about the delay one staff member was rude and did not seem to care. A very poor overall service and very expensive given portion sizes were small and the standard of cuisine was average. I would never go back to this restaurant.

On a break to scarborough glad we found this place. Had the pensioners special Haddock, chips, peas, tartare sauce, bread butter and pot of tea only £7.95 all in. Beautifully cooked and service was perfect. Not from this area but would highly recommend. Great views overlooking harbour. Thank you.

A new management team, good menu, excellent fish and chips, first class service and dog friendly. Would definitely come again.

Wonderful cafe with amazing food, fantastic views and great staff. I think the young lady that served us was called Rubie, she is an asset to Ivy House. We will definitely be coming again.

Visited this establishment on the 26th December, we was the second lot of people in the cafe as we was a group of 14 the could not get our order right, plus we had ordered a gluten free breakfast to be told after ordering in a hour that they lost part of our order and did not serve gluten free when it was on the menu.Portion sizes are not what we expected as a full all day breakfast would of fill my young child and not.Staff where not particularly bothered that they had messed up out order. Part of our group had to go without food as we had been there too long. Tried it and will not be returning.

We booked here for a surprise 40th birthday party. The venue was spot on and the hot buffet food was amazing! Loads of it and really good quality. Really helpful staff who couldn’t do more for us. Lovely roaring fire, music and reasonably priced alcohol. Would definitely recommend. Thank you to all staff who helped makes this party extra special.

My friends and I went to the Ivy House this morning and we ordered drinks only to find out the coffee machine wasn’t working. The young lady was very polite and happily refunded us - though it seemed that she was the only member off staff working the café and she was left to deal with everything that was going on; clearly the management of this establishment needs improving.

Needs a good spring clean, the holders for the utensils and sugar were dirty,, the paper menu was covered in crusty old food and cup stains, decor was tatty, chairs were ripped, some had been put back together with tape. Not an amazing menu choice, I chose cheeseburger and hubby chose scampi. Mine came on a wooden board which I absolutely dislike and fries came in a metal bucket, hubbies came on a plate with the scampi in a wire basket. Food was tasty apart from the fries tasting tainted when you got to the bottom of the bucket.I won't be going back in a hurry!

We decided to eat at this restaurant as they had a specials board outside, we had a seniors special which consisted of Fish, chips,peas,tartare sauce,bread and butter and a very large pot of tea, it was delicious, our 2 year old grandson had a child’s meal of sausage chips and beans it was a very generous portion he loved it ! The food was hot and well cooked, the waitress was very helpful, will definitely visit here again.

Ran in here when it started raining. Read other reviews and was not keen to order, but the food was great. Halloumi burger was tasty, the veggie all day breakfast was good, so was the scampi. The staff were also friendly and helpful which, again, was a surprise having read recent reviews. Clean as well. Only downside was the ladies loo was out of order so we had to use the men's.

Popped in for a drink as a family, the restaurant was very quiet, ordered soft drinks for myself and my partner, and when asking what juice they had for our Son we were told they could do ‘fresh’ orange juice - so the server came back with a carton of what looked like M&S orange juice and poured it into a glass on the counter, was a little shocked as fresh orange juice to me, is freshly squeezed from actual oranges, but to pour it from a carton openly for everyone to see is pretty off! The waitresses whilst being friendly looked pretty bored whilst we were there! Unfortunately won’t be visiting again!

Stopped here for lunch, whilst on a day out to Scarborough, with friends from York. Nothing special about the place, which is situated at the Pier/Jetty end of Scarborough front, and is set back enough from the road to not be too disturbed by the traffic. Had the misfortune to encounter this place today... Thought we would give it a try but will not be returning of recommending either! The place it's self is lovely! Clean and nicely presented but that unfortunately was spoilt by the miserable non smiling non welcoming staff inside. 2 young blonde girls I suggest if you dislike your jobs that much do your employers a favour and leave! Would not engage in any sort of chat at all totally ignored us as we got up to leave which is fine if your busy but in an empty cafe is just rude! Now we ordered 2 large flat whites a caramel slice and a scone with butter jam and cream.caramel slice was very nice scone was microwaved which I hate! Probably best to ask if customer wants it warm and soggy.. now as for the coffee we actually left it! Be very careful when you advertise things like flat whites lattes etc because it immediately gives an expectation and what was served to us most defiantly was not a flat white! It was watery with absolutely no flavour the milk on top of a flat white should be smooth and creamy this was watery again not steamed properly. I saw absolutely no point complaining as if you can not get simple things like coffee right first time then I doubt a replacement would of been any better!

The restaurant is in a busy part of Scarborough and far enough back from the road to provide a relaxing meal experience. The keywords are location, location, location. The road outside the harbour is gridlocked most days in summer. Order meal and drinks at the till and pay. Shortly after, the waitress brings fish and chip meal and drinks to table. It is traditional to drink Yorkshire tea when eating fish and chips in company. The food was piping hot and delicious. Tea was served with teapot and large teacups. Heaven!

Went here because it was a good location on front and we had a family all needing feeding and a toilet break after a 2 hour drive. It was a busy day on scarborough front but the place was deserted. Ordered 2 fish and chips, was OK but disappointed it wasn't real fish and chips more like you'd get from a chain pub which is pretty poor considering proper fish and chips should be what you get at a place like Scarborough. The service was OK but staff seemed bored and uninterested. I wouldn't go again as the fish and chips elsewhere made me envious and a feeling I'd missed out on an otherwise enjoyable day in scarborough.

Brilliant location on sea front with great views. Hotel was a little shabby but clean. No soap/shower gel provided although there was dispenser in shower. Ok but not briliant

Nicely decorated place with a nice view of the harbour but very disappointed with the food, £4.45 for a sausage and egg butty and I’ve had better from burger vans. The cheapest sausages going deep fried with an over cooked egg in a cheap white bread cake. Improve the quality of the food and its a four star, serving it in a trendy tin bowl doesn’t improve its quality.

Waited an hour for 4 sandwiches to arrive. Quality was very poor. Heard several other people complaining also.

Where to start? It was freezing, food was inedible after nearly a hour wait for what? Cold food and over cook rubbish. Service was non existent.

I’d been chasing a visit following some beautiful photos on Facebook. Very disappointed. Can only assume it’s had a partial refit as some angles look lovely but others are tired, damaged or dirty. Food and drinks okay at best - some bits missing / cold / not as advertised.

Visited here for fish and chips as a family as our usual chippy was shut. Never again! Cheap poor quality watery fish that my daughter and partner said was disgusting. Glad I only got a cup of tea tbh. No excuse for the poor fish as this place is right over the road from the harbour! Place was freezing cold, imitation leather chairs were also cracked and ripped. No drinks menu either! Only good thing was the politeness of staff. Won’t be returning!

We called at the Ivy House cafe because it looked a bit more classy that some of the surrounding establishments. We sat outside in the sunshine and ordered coffees from the counter inside. The staff were polite and very helpful and took our order and fetched it to our table outside. Coffees were good and reasonably priced. Would call again.

We called in here for a little coffee break whilst walking along the front. Nothing out of the ordinary and an average cup of coffee. Could do with a bit of a clean.

I visited this restaurant today (16.09.18) for a private family function, it had been arranged that we were having afternoon tea, I was looking forward to this as afternoon tea is my favourite! When the waitress finally brought the tea and food, the tea was cold and the food was below average, the sandwiches were crusty and had obviously been made a while, the cakes looked lovely but the cream scones were very disappointing, when I opened the pot of cream it had green mould in it, the waitress did replace this but several other members of our group found their cream to be mouldy, the tables were sticky and the crockery was dirty! Needless to say I won’t be going back!

My husband and daughter stayed here for 2 nights in room 4, which is a family room.

Food was lovely. Had to clean the child seat myself as dried food was stuck to it. Food came out but they didn’t bring child’s food. By the time they brought it out we had given 16 month old some of ours as she was getting agitated. When her food cane she wasn’t wanting it. Nice food but staff don’t seem to be able to arrange anything to be ready on time. Could be a good place if only things were organised more

On a hot and sunny day after a walk round Marine Drive we decided to stop for a coffee. We sat in the sun and had a coffee. A very nice coffee too-much better than during a previous visit. It is in a lovely spot. Well worth a visit. Good service-thank you.

The suite was very large and comfy and had a nice view over the harbour. The bathroom was also large with a free standing bath and a separate shower. A few of the bulbs in the bathroom didn’t work and having reported this to the staff they did try to fix them but said that the problem was the fittings not the bulbs, hopefully they will get them sorted. The hot tap on the sink also needs attention as it spins around when you turn it on.

I met a friend here for coffee as we had never been in here. We had to ask what drinks were available, the menu only has food. We had to order at the counter which considering it describes itself as a gastro tearoom was a bit poor. The toilets were disgusting,the ladies was closed and the gents was filthy with no hot water. One couple left as there was nowhere suitable to change their baby. One of the items on the menu was a ‘Gents tea for two’, wrong on so many levels. The place was shabby and the fake leather chairs were very worn and cracked. The only redeeming thing here was the very polite waiter.

We went to this cafe a few years ago and enjoyed our visit. This time was a real disappointment. We will not bother again! Due to a limited choice of cakes on offer we thought the scones looked the best option. There were long delays before we actually got our cakes, they were preparing food for people having take-aways ahead of those in the cafe who had already placed orders. It did not say that the scone would be served warm with cream (not how we like them!) There was no butter provided and had to wait (again) to ask for some and commented on the scone being warm. We were told that's how it is! The inside of the tea pot looked disgusting.

2 Small bottles of Sprite £5, waited 20 mins to be served by a waitress who said she would get someone to clear the table, 20 mins later table still not clear and 2 empty bottles, i wouldn't mind if it had been packed out but i weren't, best thing about this place its on the Front Expensive with bad service.

We called in as it looked nice from the outside and when we had passed earlier in the morning, it had looked quite busy. The staff were friendly enough, but the place seemed like it was only 'half open' as there was very little in the display at the counter and there was only one other occupied table. I had a BLT sandwich, which came with some nice home-made coleslaw and my husband had a cheese and onion sandwich. The food was okay, but i was put off by the lack of atmosphere and the wobbly table.

We always look forward to calling here for lunch but were very disappointed this time.

We called in for a cup of tea. The café is in an ideal venue on the front. The staff were friendly and pleasant. However we were disappointed in the quality of tea served.

My partner booked this "boutique" hotel as a birthday gift. We were really looking forward to our stay as the pictures looked nice. The pictures are VERY inaccurate! We got there and were ushered straight up to our rooms as there was a kids party on downstairs. Not very welcoming at all. The bar wasn't open, at least not to us anyway. On the way up to our room it was clear we were going to be disappointed. The carpets were grubby and worn. We got to our room to find no television even though it clearly states there is one. The window was rotten and held together with tape. There was a light fitting with three bulbs. One didn't work and one had no shade, just a bare bulb. There was an empty dispenser for shower gel in the shower so I'm not sure that housekeeping do very much. We didn't get to have the free breakfast as it doesn't start till 9 and we had to leave before then. I feel 9 is pretty late to start breakfast, but at least they're honest about what time they serve it from.
