Have been here to eat in on several occasions. Today I had a takeaway. I expected it to be good, but it was in fact great! Quite honestly the nicest takeout curry I’ve ever had. I ordered: Lamb Korma (don’t judge me). Mushroom Fried Rice Garlic Naan Onion Baji Definitely the best Indian Restaurant in Burgess Hill. I would recommend eat in or take away.

Excellent quality food here. One of our party had the mixed grill and it came out beautifully sizzling. I took a chance on a dish I have never heard of before. It`s top of the menu on specials and it is the owners secret recipe. All I can say is that an element of pickle enhanced the flavour and it was.....amazing. Never experienced these flavours before. Wow. Thank you.

Firstly, the service is brilliant. The owner has had this restaurant for over 50 years. He is friendly and engaging, and really knows his stuff. Secondly, they have a new beer in, which was really good, Bangla Premium. Lastly, the food - AMAZING! Freshly cooked by a great chef, lots of real ingredients (not just a purée that you sometimes get), fantastic flavours, and ample portions. Overall I would give this place a 10/10!

We came here with a friend on New Year’s Day and were glad we had chosen this one as the service was excellent and the food was served quickly despite it being very busy with takeaways. It’s fairly basic inside but the staff are friendly and the food tasted delicious and freshly cooked. Would have liked a bit of salad with the samosas and onion bahjis. There was lots of sauce with the main courses and the portions were generous. The chicken tikka starter was succulent and the meat overall was not over cooked. Will definitely return when next in the area.

An inconspicuous treasure is the middle of Burgess Hill. Traditional flavours amalgamated from all vertices and edges of the Indian subcontinent and tantalising ones too, kudos goes to the owner and has done since the restaurant’s genesis in ‘76. A truly fine establishment.

Called up to try their takeaway, simply asked if they deliver or just do collections, was met with “haven’t got time” and hung up on me. Phoned again as thought they must’ve misheard me, again was met with the same man bordering on shouting “I’m a very busy man are you making an order or not?!” Utter disbelief told him not to bother - he obviously doesn’t want or need the business, so I will never attempt to use them again. He clearly was irritated by having to serve a large group who were chatting and when we weren’t ready to order he didn’t hide his annoyance on his face! Rude comments, facial expressions and practically being thrown out at 10pm because we were the last table there and they made no secret of the fact we were stopping them from going home will mean I never return to this restaurant.

Having returned to one of my favourite restaurants having moved away I was very disappointed. I cannot complain about the food, but the service was to be the worst dining experience.ever. Even though there was a party of around 20 people and 5 other people including me there was plenty of waiters to cope with the load. The meal was served quite quickly, but the problem was we where rushed to complete our meal. The waiters where “ prowling” and removing dishes the second they seemed empty. On one occasion I had to recall the waiter to return the dish that I hadn’t finished. Halfway through the meal they came and cleared the table and removed one of the centre warming units. We had barely completed our meal when the mints arrived, followed swiftly by the bill which we had not requested. Now if that’s not trying to get rid of you I don’t know what is! We were not even offered coffee! When we complained to the retired manager, all we got was excuses of why the waiters worked in that way. A token apology was offered in the same sentence as his number of years in the restaurant business. Finally, the bill was completely eligible, with items scribbled out and the till receipt was nearly invisible because the ink/toner was none existent. Needless to say, I will not be returning to the India Garden again, the quality and price of the food does NOT make up for the pathetic service and lack of customer focus.

The food in general was of a good standard, though it is unfortunate to be amongst such strong competition in the area. The fact that they have been going for over 40 years obviously shows that they provide good food/service. On the other hand, some practices could do with modernising, such as the serving of rice on small metal trays (large surface area results in rapid heat loss). Overall, India Garden certainly rank in my top half of local curry houses, and are only a little behind the best in the area.

Booked a table of 5 for 7.30 on Saturday evening. 3 friends arrived on time and I arrived at 7.45. We asked to order some drinks as one friend was still due to arrive. The elderly waiter said he was not happy as he had lost a table he could have booked because we were late. They had put 2 tables together for the 5 of us so we said one would sit on the end so they could use the other table. We thought he was joking as he very rudely continued to say he wasn't happy, he'd lost bookings and that we were late. Other diners could hear this and it was very embarrassing. I told him I thought he was being very rude and he told us we could leave! As much as I'd have loved to have left we had all been dropped off there for the evening so wasnt very easy to leave! After he walked off someone else served us all evening and were clearly embarrassed by him and gave us a bottle of wine. This was a friends christmas night out and he totally spoilt our night. We live in Poole, Dorset and whilst visiting family we thought it would be nice to try an Indian restaurant local to Burgess Hill. We had tried a few in the past but they were either over priced, inferior food or non-authentic indian cuisine! I found India Garden whilst googling and having good reviews and been trading for 40 years decided to give it s try. I booked online (email) and this was confirmed a day or so later. When we arrived last night there was no record of the booking at the restaurant and unfortunately I couldn't find the confirmation email, still unable to do so today although I know I definitely had it. This wasn't a problem to Amin and the team as they fitted us in with no problem. We moved to Burgess Hill approx 24 years ago and on our first night out we asked the taxi driver to take us to the best Indian in town, he took us here and we've never looked back. It's a family-run affair which only serves to make the dining experience more special. They cannot do enough for you, if you fancy something different that isn't on the menu then they'll make suggestions and serve you something absolutely delicious. It is not expensive for what it is and yes, the restaurant is smaller than you'd expect, but that makes for a great atmosphere. When you walk through the door there is always a lovely, friendly welcome. It's always advisable to book as its a very popular restaurant but if you haven't, they will do everything possible to accommodate you. We've been to other Indian Restaurants in the town (there are a few!) but nowhere compares to this. We've been going regularly for years and have no plans to change. So,I've been going to this indian for a while now and it's always a pleasure. I made the mistake of going just down the road from here for a takeaway and I felt sick afterwards. So, back onto the india garden, if you're doing a take away and order it there expect to wait between 20 - 30 minutes, this is cooked fresh and if you want quality, you can't have quickly. The older gent behind the till is always smiling, always greets me by my name which I don't know how he remembers and he's always giving a lot extra when it comes down to service. The food is always piping hot in both temperature and flavor, they have the best tandoori chicken I've ever had and they cook it in the tandoor in the kitchen. The rice is always light and fluffy and cooked to perfection. One time I couldn't decide what I wanted, the older gent asked me what sort of curry I like to which my response was hot but not blow my head off. Then he asked what meat I wanted which was lamb and he then said "Leave it with me" They cooked something I could only describe as perfection. Just the right amount of heat, the lovely lamb which was falling apart, washed down with a couple of bottles of Cobra beer. Divine.I love this place and you will too. Give it a shot from your normal Indian restaurant and I assure you, you will go back again and again.Oh also, with the wheelchair accessible bit, it's not got steps but the door may be a little small for a wheelchair so i'm going to say Not sure. There may be another way in.Cheers allAlex

We returned after years of visiting this restaurant and decided to try it out this evening. We had a lovely waiter approach us which was refreshing after one of the son's of the owner used to keep chatting to us and never left us alone for our rare "date nights". After ordering poppadums and dips, my husband asked for the lime chutney which was below par from our previous experiences. He made a brief comment and the "boss" came over to us rather aggressively; we said that the chutney was rather runny in comparison to a few years back and he said "you don't like my chutney, then don't have it". We both, plus the waiter, looked rather embarrassed and we asked, as customers we were wrong? He replied "yes". For an owner to respond in this way, we decided to walk out after feeling gobsmacked, what a lovely way to be treated by a local restaurant! If you want to be treated normally, don't visit this dated "restaurant". Indian Fusion just around the corner is amazing, with better quality food and amazing service! Never again!!

Turned up on a Saturday evening without a booking and, despite the restaurant being full (a good sign we felt) the staff were aware that a table would soon be free. We were soon seated and our order taken, ahead of a table of at least twenty, so our food arrived promptly. What a delicious curry and reasonably priced too. The staff kept stopping to chat and other customers, probablyregulars we thought, were greeted with jokes and easy chat. This is an upbeat restaurant, hidden down a smallish street, full with chattering customers and staff. Quite a find! The food is very good too.

Good food. Not cheap but fair. Excellent service. Oldest established curry house in Burgess Hill. Still going strong, there must be a reason for that

Having been coming to the India Garden for 30+ years it is about time I wrote a review as obviously we are happy with this unpretentious but authentic restaurant. In essence the ingredients and cuisine are top quality, the food is all cooked fresh and sometimes you do have to wait if they are busy. We love their take-aways and tend to go to eat in on a week day to avoid the crowds at the weekends. Booking is pretty much essential on a busy night and has been for years. Regulars keep coming back so all in all they must be doing things right!

This is one of the best (many say THE best) Indian in Burgess Hill. It's position and appearance does not automatically pull you in, but the quality of food cannot be queried. Good food and good service - and at a economic price. One of our favourites!

We had not been back for a long time but took friends over from America. The service and food were excellent, the owner even remembered us and even what my husband liked. Cannot fault them in any way.

We only took away food but the portions were big and very delicious. I can say that it's one of the best indians I've ever had. The atmosphere is authentic and the owner is a very nice man, talkative, very devoted to his job and smiling.

Been here quite a few times and has always been good. One thing that has changed is the prawns they are the small cheap ones and have the black streak going through which is basically the prawns poo. It put us off the thought of it but everything else was lovely! Please get better prawns India garden

We went there for dinner on a Saturday night. The place was packed solid with diners, somewhat packed together. The service, whilst friendly, was very slow. Maybe best to avoid peak times. However, the food was really, really good.

Having been customers of Balti House in HH for 15 years we thought we’d just try somewhere new. We got takeaway from here and it was so disappointing. Rice and naan were ok but the main dishes were watery and tasteless. I genuinely suspect they had been watered down as they were very thin and the taste had been washed away. Sorry to say this as there seem to be some good reviews in the past.

27 mins late from requested time. No notification of late delivery time, until App was refreshed. Food arrived eventually & was hot & good.

Some very good cooking but experience ruined by exceptionally loud restaurant and waiting staff didn't seem to listen then bought the wrong items. They did however make an effort and were friendly, I think we were just unlucky with our timing (there were large groups). Edited: As of May 24, no longer serving alcohol, frustrating that they didn't mention it when I booked, I didn't feel very good walking off to Co-Op to fetch wine and beer. It's also a bit awkward with beer going warm but they did provide a cork-screw and ice. Business as usual however, with regards to very good food, but yet again they seem to attract large, loud groups.
