I’ve been here a couple of times now. Last time I went I had the Caprese as a starter. The buffalo mozzarella was a creamy pleasure to taste and feel. The main reason I went back a second time is because I really enjoyed the Penne Puttanesca as I love anchovies. And it was absolutely delicious.

Lovely hostess, cleared the plate. Bruschetta Carbonara and Bolognese were all excellent. House rosé was crisp and washed the food down wonderfully. Tables outside - end of road is blocked off and did not see one vehicle. Background music was good and not intrusive. Two ppl, 2 drinks each, 2 main courses and 1 starter - £65. Open on Mondays, which is unusual for Italian restaurants, I am told. Excellent transport links, minutes from East Dulwich overground. Will return.

We’ve been visiting this restaurant for a few years now, and it has never disappointed us. My favorite dishes are their vegetarian pizza and the seafood salad. The pizza is the best I’ve ever had in London, and the salad is always fresh. I can never resist their Tiramisu either. Although the waitress may seem moody at first, she is incredibly friendly once you get to know her. She is always so lovely with my 6-year-old, and they have become such good friends that my child wants to go in and say hi every time we walk past the restaurant. It’s truly a friendly, family-oriented place, and we need more restaurants like this in East Dulwich.

Il Mirto is a neighbourhood institution for a reason. Their food is delicious, authentic, and the number of options plentiful. The Sardinian specialities are a real highlight. The food was incredible! The chef makes the pasta and sauces daily and you could absolutely tell. We had the gnocchi Al la sorrentina Which was some of the best gnocchi I've ever tasted in my life. The sauce was a silky smooth and tasteful tomato sauce with a fantastic amount of cheese. We also had the carbonara which was excellent. Overall it was some of the best pasta I have had. The lady serving us was so friendly and polite and overall it was an excellent experience. Unfortunately, I had eaten half of the gnocchi before I even thought to take a photo of it. My dad had the pork special which he said was fantastic, the pork was perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious.

The waitress Valeria is such an amazing, friendly person that I now feel I can call her a friend. Her partner Pasquale is the most incredible chef. We have had seafood linguine fresh from the sea in Crete and we still prefer Pasquale’s. The way he makes his salads, no one else can touch how good he is with food. The calamari is home made, so delicious with home made tartare sauce. They get their produce from Italy and you can tell. Everything is fresh and exceptional. People come from all over London to go to il Mirto because they know how good the food is and reasonably priced. It’s a hidden gem. I was kicked out of and verbally abused at Ir Mirto restaurant on Melbourne grove. I came in, it was completely empty. A woman came out of the kitchen and quite rudely asked what I wanted. I said that I just wanted a cup of coffee (although I was actually considering ordering food as well). I was very rudely turned away and yelled at, told that I should be ashamed of myself and called an indecent woman. I am in shock to be honest, was not expecting such behaviour at all.

Found Mirto by chance. A small colorful little restaurant in Dulwich. They do not take cards so ensure you have cash. The food was very disappointing. I expected original italian produce but what we received was the sort of stuff you find in the local supermarket with the price tag of an expensive restaurant. Artichockes in starter tasted of nothing and spam ??? Ravioli with mushroom are more like a a tasteless creamy slop and not porchini as stated. Out of the three mains, i cannot be positive about any of them. The wine was OK and probably the best part of the meal and Service was friendly but quality of food was poor and really needs to improve. It should be a cheap eat with pizza and simple dishes but price is really quite expensive for the very limited dishes that it serves. Pizzas may be better!

This is a tiny little restaurant near East Dulwich station. The food is uncomplicated: it's basically either pizza, pasta or gnocchi. The wine list is short. But don't let this put you off. I had Pizza Mirto (the house pizza which was Sardinian salami and pecorino cheese) and it was one of the best pizzas I have ever had outside of Italy. Two of my daughters had gnocchi and the other had pizza. We were all raving about the delicious food. We also had bruschetta to start and panna cotta to end. The panna cotta was out of this world. There was also a chicken special and authentic Italian music to add to the ambiance. GO and enjoy Italian food the Sardinian way but you should probably book to avoid disappointment

You would describe Il Mirto as "cheek by jowl" cozy - and it is. It reminded me of family dinners from years ago - the way the food looked and tasted and the tightly packed tables and chairs. I had pasta and meatballs with a nice med side salad. Simple, but a measure of the quality of a restaurant if it delivers (for me anyway).A very nice wee restaurant with no frills or airs and graces. The wine list is worth exploring and I would def go again when next visiting my daughter in East Dulwich.

When I go to a specialised Restuarant such as this italian Restaurant, I get very upset when things that are on the menu are not available in the restaurant. This indicates poor management and does not justify the high prices paid.So for me the no starters as I cherish my stuffed mushrooms and they were on the menu. Alas not available. The Calton I had was great but obviously I had to wait longer whilst others had their starters. The proseco was overpriced at £17.50 a 70cl bottle and these don't go far between 3 of us that were drinking it. So there were other things not available that were on the menu including Vodka (unbeleivable) different desserts and even those ordered were incomplete. Two of us had pistachio icecream with chocolate sauce but no chocolate sauce. One of us asked for ice water and that came without any ice and a dead fly in the glass. My wife ordered black cherry icecream and was not told that they didn't have it till the other desserts had been delivered to the table. Instead they provided a raspberry ripple with two cherries on the top.The toilet door is now positioned right along side restaurant tables and of course the door remains open unless a customer decides to close it. Staff can't be bothered. The restaurant had both fruit flies in abundance as well as gnats flying around which is another downer for me. My personal view is that I would not give this establishment another vist even if they paid me. IL Mirto you have really let your self down since our last visit and yo have much to do to raise your game again.

Obviously its not cheese on toast, but the dreary East Dulwich way - dismiss everything that is not familiar by reducing it to an uninspired one line trope and repeat until everyone tires of the mind numbing repetition and ceases to bother correcting you.El Mirto. That means The Mirto in Italian apparently. Tucked along the back streets alongside the station, opposite a failed Greek restaurant and next to random uninspired shops and offices that could out of a budget movie set. Totally unimpressive location.I have to admit I have only ordered pizza from her- a phone call and we pick them up half an hour later, still steaming away in their generic pizza boxes. The pizzas themselves do away with the frippery of stuffed crust, bar-B-Q onion and Chinese chicken deep pan meat frenzy BOGOF, free 2lts bottle drink and onion rings , pizzas that dominate the local delivery market. These are not your standard perfectly round 10/12/15 inch offerings - they are roughly round. Roughly. The simple offerings are invariably the best here- the Margherita and the neapoletana are as good or better as anything else that is within delivery distance, the cheese is thick and gloopy, the crusts and bases cooked to perfection and slightly on the overdone side. There are no spongy pre made bases here- everything is freshly made to order in the open kitchen. No onion rings or chicken dipper strips were offered. No artificial cheese stuffed crusts. no curiously luminescent pieces of tandoori chicken. No pineapple. No Black forest gateau or banoffee pie. No side orders of chips. No burgers. No chicken popcorn. No 15 inch lunchtime specials with kebab meat and burger sauce dressingJust good quality simple moreish pizzas that will leave you stuffed and needing a quiet lie down in front of a BBC Horizon documentary about the benefits of a mediterranean diet. Lovely Zzzzzzzzz....

Walked in, was ignored by the waitress for a full 2 minutes as she decided to give her attention to a couple who wanted to try out their Italian on her. Bad start and on reflection, we should have left there and then. Walking into Il Mirto is like waking into someone's front room, and not in a good way. Let's say it's like the living room of Jim and Barbara Royle. Finally got the attention of the moody waitress and placed our order. We ordered 3 starters between us (we were hungry). A caprese salad (the blandest tomatoes I've ever tasted), some deep fried mozzarella (cheap and nasty) and more hopefully, some Arancini with bolognese and mozzarella in the middle. Now, wouldn't you expect when cutting into some lovely deep friend Arancini that you might expect to see the middle oozing with creamy, gooey mozzarella and bolognese sauce, heavy with herbs and red wine? Yes, I did too. No, this is insipid, bland food which is ever so slightly pink in colour from the 1% bolognese sauce which was added to the rice mixture. Appalling. The pizza and pasta we had for main course were below average at best. But the desserts were off the scale. My partner ordered the panna cotta which was grainy and I ordered the semi Freddo which was so far removed from the smooth, creaminess that one expects from a semi Freddo that it made me angry just looking at it. Mine was taken out the freezer and presented to me with ice crystals on the top. It was like the cheapest, nastiest ice cream I'd ever had. Il Mirto are a disgrace to all Italian chefs who are passionate about food. Will never, ever return to this dreadful restaurant.

...but it is authentic. This place used to be a greasy spoon and I was a little upset when it closed down, but very pleased when an Italian restaurant opened up in it's place. East Dulwich has a plethora of Indian/Chinese/Thai restaurants but was lacking an Italian. They really haven't changed the decor from when it was a greasy spoon apart from hanging some Italian inspired art on the walls.Ignore the decor - it is what it is. The food is really good and fantastic value. The service is always friendly and they do seem to remember their more regular customers, which we have become. The pizzas are large but don't worry if you can't manage it they will box it up and you can take it home for breakfast the next morning!!

The pizzas are really good and would recommend it as the best pizza in Dulwich. I was disappointed when I first walked in as the welcome was cold and ignoring, but it got alot better from there. It is very busy which speaks for itself and so it is not just me that would rate il mirto highly. Great food to start another nice evening in Dulwich.

I love Italian food and was happy to find out there was an Italian round the corner! I ordered a spaghetti bolognese to takeaway and collected it. It was honestly the worst spaghetti bolognese I've ever tasted and I was really disappointed. It had been reheated obviously from frozen and tasted like it had been frozen for months. I don't normally write reviews on restaurants but felt the need to on this occasion. Especially as I spent £8.50 on it and I threw most of it on the bin. I definitely would not eat here again

My family and I used to visit this little, backstreet Italian a few times a month. The food was always good, service fast and enjoyable atmosphere which did remind me of tiny 'shoebox' cafes in Italy. However, on one occasion, they didn't serve my meal and when we asked where it was, the chef had forgotten to make it, using the excuse that the kitchen was too small (keeping in mind that there are only 4 of us and the rest of the cafe was empty). Before admitting to having forgotten about it, the waiter convinced us that the meal would be out in 2 minutes. After nearly 20 minutes, we became skeptical and asked where the food was. The chef went ballistic and became extremely defensive; yelling at us that he wasn't running a fast food joint. When we went today, they charged us for my meal and when we put up an argument they became angry and impatient. We handed them £30 and went to leave, tired and hungry. He chased us out the shop and tried to start another argument. We haven't been back since. I wouldn't recommend this place at all - maybe just takeout!

Was really looking forward to dinner with my friend so chose this little italian. At the top of their menu said that pasta tomato sauce made with Parmesan but had multiple dishes labelled as vegetarian in this sauce. When I asked the waiter if any dishes could be made without Parmesan as it is made with animal rennent so I couldn't eat it he responded by shrugging and telling me no one else has ever minded and I couldn't have a pasta without Parmesan. Was very disappointed as dishes were labelled with a V. EU guidelines on food labelling is changing making it illegal to label these types of food vegetarian so small restaurants like these will need to be more careful and aware of what is in their food.

In East dulwich there are more chain restaurants now and the offer, and prices, are becoming more and more the same as anywhere elseIl mirto has very good food and very low prices that make me wonder why is not always fully bookedI had an aubergine and ricotta starter which was delicious and she had arancini(4!!!), simply amazing As main I had a special of clam linguine with bottarga and wifey had octopus ravioliBoth were freshly made and expertly cooked and the portions were huge, for a mere £12,50 eachHow do they do that and make profit its mystery to me but, hey, I won't complain, I'd just go back

One of the best meals I've had at any price, anywhere. Also excellent sicillian wine at a remarkable price.Sure the surroundings are far from special, but the meal more than compensated for it.

We ate here last night. When the chef brought out our starters the waiter was on his phone and continued to be on his phone whilst our food sat in front of him. Eventually he brought it over. Mains then took about 45 mins to arrive. My carbonara was scrambled and not very nice with burnt bacon bits. We complained to the waiter about this and the service. He made it clear he was not very happy. However the carbonara was deducted from the bill so we were happy. As we left the waiter saw us to the door and proceeded to hurl abuse at us in italian which i understood some of including telling us to Fxxx off. We will not be returning.

this is out of a cliche c movie. Ive ordered delivery. Pizza with extra peppers and mushroom and a pasta dish that comes with veg and king prawns but ive asked if i can have it with no king prawns for a lower price. They said no same price. Fine but can i have a bigger portion? They agreed. The delivery arrived fine yet when i opened the boxes there was no mushroom on the pizza and the portion of the pasta is exactly the same. Having ordered that same dish 3 prior times i call them to say i am unhappy about my delivery for which they happily charged me full price with trims. After much talking back and forth the chef offers me a new delivery yet at the SAME TIME starts winding himself up and start shouting and screaming and abusing me over the phone screaming i "play games" screaming questions at me he didnt want answers too .. Then puts the phone down on me. It was the worst and surreal experience i ever had. Those bad reviews exist for a reason.. They do not deserve your time and money.

I visit this restaurant quite regularly and always find the food excellent. In particular the glutin free ragu is a personal favourite and, with wine reasonably priced, I thoroughly enjoy each visit. The restaurant is cramped or cozy whichever you prefer and the only recommendations I would offer would be for a larger dining area and improved toilets (which are perfectly presented but small).I look forward to further visits!

Great value for money. Relatively cheap beer and.wine and bottomless coke and sprite. Nice architecture in the arches under therailroad. You must like chicken, not much else on the menu.

Just perfect. Food was delightful, fresh and comforting. The wine list is one of the best-value in London. Real highlight was impeccably friendly, relaxed and efficient service. As we were a larger group we had to wait a while for a table but the time flew by. Our group's dietaries were handled carefully and easily.
