New owners have renamed this place The Paddle. Prices gone up, service gone down and the food is not as good as it was. Shame

Expect excellent coffee and long queues at this recently re-launched Milford staple. I’ll leave a full review when the new bosses get round to changing the café’s name on TA - it’s now called The Paddle. But: suffice to say, the vibe and the location are superb, the food is tasty, and the wait time will doubtless reduce as the kindly and enthusiastic staff continue to tweak their “system”. Recommended.

Hurst on the Hill was my perfect village coffee shop . The coffee was the best. Jesse and his team were great.Food tasty and original. The young lady made the best coffee and baked fresh bread pudding. Jesse's gourmet evenings were to die for. A very hard act to follow. The Paddle has taken over and the coffee is good and the egg and bacon ciabatta is excellent. They Unfortunately do not often have the Pain au Choc. Overall they are doing very well.

Paddle on the Green has replaced Hurst on the Hill. Best coffee for miles around. Helpful staff & good service. But we know plastic visors are ineffective when it comes to preventing Covid. So why don’t staff wear masks instead?

While visiting the area we called in late Sunday afternoon to see if we could get an ice cream we were advised that although they don’t do ice cream in cones they did have a home made cheesecake ice cream with macerated red berries, we ordered one of these a black coffee and a slice of coffee and walnut cake, the attention to detail on serving were excellent and the dessert was exceptional, my husband said it was the best coffee he had all weekend, definitely the best ice cream I have had for many years. Great place in a beautiful setting

We loved sitting outside in the sunshine for our lunch. Great spot, lots of choices on the menu and fantastic coffee! Only issue was that the 3 of us ordered separately and one bagel took a lot longer to arrive than the other two paninis but not too much of a problem! The food was lovely when it arrived, just not massive portions for the price.

A promising cafe at first glance. However, when our food arrived my carrot soup was so watery and had an overpowering synthetic flavour. After one spoonful I left it. My friend toastie came with two pieces of gem lettuce, by way of some sort of decoration, both of which were limp and brown on the edges. Even though it was obvious I had pushed my soup to the end of our table, at no point did anyone question my satisfaction. Very poor customer service. I also asked for a Diet Coke, but they only had one diet can option, some sort of tropical fruit, which was also unpleasant. The overall presentation was dreadful. I had no intention of asking for my money back, as I would not be returning, as there are a large number of first rate cafes in the area to choose from.

Popped into this place recently for coffee with my partner and was less than impressed . Got a really weak flat white (which should be a really strong coffee) but the staff weren't sure if it had 1 or 2 shots of coffee in it, and then said it would be another 75p for an extra shot . This would have made it cost around £3.45 for a small coffee, just to make it taste how it should in the first place! We drank up and left. Too many better places around this area to be bothered to ever go back, especially with the poor attitude of the staff.

This is a cafe with an extremely small kitchen. My toastie contained quality thick ham and was garnished with gem lettuce, dressing and sunflower seeds. The coffee was wonderful, strong enough, not bitter and tasted like coffee should taste. The restaurant could do with a more cheerful pale paint on the walls and tables which are easy to clean and disinfect. The current rough sawn planks make for a grungy, industrial atmosphere which is far from chic and appealing. The menu does not sell itself. and time could be profitably spent examining other trendy cafe menus and their wording. Grilled halloumi should be added to the menu and the chef needs to come up with some delectable dishes that are a little bit different and interesting. For example a toastie with local English brie and New Forest Blackcurrant conserve or caramelised red onion confit. Customers don't want to think hard about what they fancy, they want to be enticed and spoilt for choice.

We ate here for three mornings on our recent visit to Milford on sea. The staff were absolutely fantastic. Nothing was to much trouble. We mixed and matched most days, the poached eggs on toast were delicious, as were the sausages. The food was fantastic fresh and tasty. the coffee was beautiful. The anzac biscuits were so good i took 4 home with me. It's not cheap here, but well worth the money in my opinion. They let dogs on too so it was fabulous.

Chef Jesse is an absolute star. Our 7 course menu last night was superb. The ability he showed in the restricted cooking and preparation area he has to work in put many a chef with better facilities in the shade. My personal favourite course was the duck, the most tender I have ever tasted. Our group enjoyed the evening so much we are already planning a return. Jesse was very ably assisted by Grace who very competently and pleasantly served and waited on us. A fabulous evening, thank you Jesse and Grace.

We came here for coffee and a takeaway snack. We ordered two cappuccinos, a sausage sandwich and a bacon sandwich. The food was cooked freshly which meant it took a while. However we did not mind as we could see that the food was hot and made for us rather than being warmed up. The coffees were really smooth and both sandwiches delicious. We were really happy to support this as it is clearly a local business and the food looked to be locally sourced. The only downside could be that the bill was £16 which is a little expensive for what we ordered. However it was really tasty and just what we needed.

I don’t normally write an average review and in fact I had to look at the other reviewers photos to make sure this definitely was the place we went to. Our experience was not quite as others had received. A bland toasted sandwich which took ages to arrive (the cafe wasn’t busy) and had no garnish at all. For £5. Maybe that’s Milford on sea prices ! Not impressed. Maybe we were just unlucky as all the other reviews are good ..... coffee was nice though ....

Tried this little café which turns into a Pop -up restaurant on certain evenings. This particular evening was an Italian one and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything is made from scratch and the menu is decided by the chef depending on what is available and in season. So all a lovely surprise- not pretentious, rustic but full of taste sensations!

As an expat Aussie from Melbourne it is my mission to find a decent coffee and I have to say I throughly enjoyed the latte at had here. Proper coffee, made with care and just the right amount of froth. My one quibble and it is really a preference thing, is to serve the coffee Melbourne style in a glass and not a mug. Then, combined with the laid back vibe, I really would feel I was almost home. Lovely waffles as well!

After a lovely visit to Hurst Castle we thought we would drive into Milford-on-sea for a light lunch and coffee. Unfortunately we went into the Hurst on the Hill. We ordered 2 sausage sandwiches (@ £5.00/sandwich) and tea and coffee to be told that they had run out of sausages that morning. Unbelievable as there is a butchers shop right next door. No attempt was made to offer an alternative so we left and went somewhere else that was more accommodating and CHEAPER. Not impressed at all, will never recommend it and never return. If you want expensive food with absolutely zero customer service then go to this place.

Visited the Sail inn with my uncle who lives in Lymington. Previous experience at the pub had been very good however this visit has left a very poor taste in the mouth. While the fish and chips were adequate the use of some sort of paper to "soak up the oil" from the food was less than appetizing for my uncle who is elderly. While the stated serving hours were 12 to 3pm when I requested dessert and coffees we were told the kitchen was closed as the chef "had to be somewhere" Given the choice of quality establishments in Lymington we obviously regretted choosing The Sail Inn and won't be doing so in the future - the fact there was no warning that the kitchen was closing early is annoying however the actual decision to shut early on a Friday lunchtime in a competive marketplace is beyond me.
