Called in per chance with the Dog for Lunch. The staff were so friendly and welcoming of us and the Dog. We we allowed in the Restaurant where the dog was given fresh water and treats. We ordered Fish and Chips, which were a tad expensive but absolutely delicious and piping hot. Served in a friendly manner. Premises were really busy, but we only 10 mins to be served on a very busy day. Highly Recommend one of the best Dog friendly places we’ve been to. Thanks. So good we called again today for a drink and sat in the beer garden again excellent

First and last time, great setting lovely place, spoilt by the arrogance of the manager, happy to argue when told my pint was sub standard?!? Even drank it and said it was fine! Back to customer service school for him, if he ever went. Food at lunch time was poor, however our evening meal was very good, had to ask a few times for water, but got it in the end, luckily there are many pubs and restaurants to chose from in this location, a few meters away you have got EGO, what a difference in attitude and service

Cannot fault the staff and the restaurant. I had the roast beef dinner. I must say I've had better. The veg was a little too "el dente" ( personal choice I know,) The beef was chewy, Yorkshire pudding cold, roast potatoes not crispy, not worth the cost.

We visited as a family of 6 for a birthday Sunday meal, we were greeted and sat but a lovely gent with a colourful shirt nd glasses, he was lovely and very acconadating when taking our orders, unfortunately this is the last we saw of him. The waits got longer and longer after each course with the female server who visited us being less than friendly. After waiting 40 mins for someone to come and clear our pudding plates ( I went and found a lad and asked for the bill by this time) when the female server came back my husband made a polite comment to her about the service and wait times, which was met with a less that accepting attitude. this was then passed round the staff ike Chinese whispers , we watched as they all looked over one by one to see which table had said it. We should have just shouted it then everyone would have known save them all some time. Can't fault the food, and the yorkies were giant. Just a shame about the a small percentage of staff.

As regular visitors to Rake Hall, on this occasion, we certainly didn’t get ‘value for money’. Either due to cost cutting, or an issue with the chef, our crispy squid consisted of only 5 pieces, without the usual garnish. That equates to £1.29 per piece! Certainly not the portion we have been used to!

Overall staff very attentive and courteous, this visit let down by the food! My partner ordered the Pork stroganoff with herby rice. The meal was a disappointment as the rice was a congealed blob of rice that wasn’t tasty at all. Not the fluffy grains of rice expected also the amount of meat pieces in the stroganoff was far outweighed by the amount of sauce although tasty not a good serving. Expected better after previous visits.

Went to Rake Hall twice this week (staying at the caravan club site next door). Fantastic food and great service. This is a real foodie place. We visited on a Sunday evening and the Rake was surprisingly calm - we were seated promptly and staff were polite, if a little slow to take our orders. As we probably should have expected, the choices on the menu were mainly variations on Sunday dinner and we would have appreciated more vegetarian/vegan options. The food was nicely presented, I had the celeriac soup with truffle oil to start, which was very tasty (and an ample portion). A couple of our party agreed that the Yorkshire puddings were a little dry. The restaurant backs on to a lush green lawn, which is great to relax on in summer, and the interior design is very well put together - local pieces of art and history are displayed on the walls. A nice spot for a family gathering.

Birthday treat for afternoon tea. Put us in a room on our own so I asked to be moved to sit with everyone else dining...which they did. Sandwiches brought out on saucer sized plate then another plate with cakes and scones. I asked why not served on 3 tier cake stand as she gave some poor excuse as to cakes might melt so they don't use them hower other diners had them! They forgot to bring the strawberries and cream and champagne we ordered. Waitress was moody and unhelpful and we had to go into bar for a cocktail as they were now shutting!! Huge amount of money for poor food and service. Never been back!

The Woodland is close to Ellemere Port Hospital and serves for much of the day. Usual "Stonehouse" fayre. Very pleasant member of staff who checked for allergies and carried our drinks to our table as I am dodgy on my feet. We took advantage of the offer of two meals for £11.75 from a reduced menu. Pleasant food, but nothing special, except the price.

We went here for food as the brewers fayre is closed for refurbishments at the premier inn we were staying at. The food was terrible, if it wasn't for us being starving after a full day at Chester zoo we wouldn't have eaten it. Wasn't expecting top of the notch food for the price but was definitely expecting much better than what was served. Everything looks to have come out the same deep fat fryer which seemed could do with a oil change, one of my children's starters was veg sticks which were so dry and looked like they'd been prepped the week before, the others a "garlic bread starter" was two slices off a cheap garlic baguette. The staff were lovely and the place was clean so probably a great place for a drink, just wouldn't return again food.
