Hughie's Cafe in Leicester

Terrible. A simple order of fried eggs was too hard for them and they came out looking obliterated. My partners food looked equally as disappointing. They advertise desserts which I guess was the sad stale looking brownie on the counter.

Use to be a good cafe, but now the breakfast is overpriced and the quality and quantity has gone down hill, very poor and untasty now, won't be eating there again, even the tea is poor quality now.

How the hell do mess up on cheese on toast . The bread had been toasted , well burnt then the cheese put on . You could peel the cheese off . Very poor .

Very disappointed ☹️ I use to eat here on a regular basis but due to illness I have not been able to.. however I recently went there for breakfast. I asked for a large coffee which ended up as a small cup only half full and very cold and after waiting about half an hour for a small breakfast and seeing others who arrived after me receive thier food I asked if they had forgotten my breakfast.. it was then brought to me 10 minutes later and very cold... Like they had deliberately left it to one side. I felt like it was a personal attack and felt very uncomfortable being thier. I use to love this place and always tipped them.. On top of this Thier was a very rude weird customer (demon possessed) sitting near me who was cursing men and swearing to another customer.. It was a very weird strange and upsetting experience and I will NEVER use them again... It's a a shame but if I went again and had the same experience I would be forced to seriously kick off 😞 Shame on you guys.. The service has seriously gone downhill.. don't know what thier problem with me was as im nothing but polite to them.. wtf guys? Your loss

This is one of my favourite cafés in Leicester, I mainly go there for the breakfast options that they sell throughout the day, but they have lots of other delicious food there too, including plenty of daily specials. The staff are very friendly and the food is always cheap and tasty, so it's a win, win, win for me.

Service was bad nothing on the menu and the menu wasn’t very good No milkshakes Bacon, and hash brown sandwiches wasn’t good Customer service rubbish wouldn’t go there again waiting for my Bill was too long. Not very kid’s friendly either no drinks that kids could have not happy with the service at all will post.

I stumbled across this hidden gem whilst trying to work out which bus stop I needed on a bitterly cold day. Looking Humberstone Gate I saw a banner advertising ‘Hughie’s Cafe’ next to a shop of the same name. It appeared to be up a small alley between shops, so I was amazed to find it was a really lovely, and large, cafe, with very reasonable prices. I ordered a cheese omelette, chips and salad with a mug of tea - and it was only £7.10. The food was well cooked and presented, and the tea was also good. The staff were efficient and friendly, and I’d definitely recommend discovering this cafe to anyone visiting Leicester town centre.

I went into this café because I was told by someone a long time ago that they made very nice food , I went in as i was passing that way & there was an extensive menu on the wall with the days specials as you walked in , there is also a menu with a good selection of dishes , I fancied the English cooked breakfast , that was called the " Big breakfast " & it was very nice , it came with beans , toms , sausage bacon , hash brown & egg as well as toast although this could have been " toasted " a little longer otherwise it was substantial , enjoyable & good value 5£99 , from what I saw of the other dishes that people had , it all looked very nice , recommended ..

The cage building is very nice and that's why I have given it a 1. Service is slow especially when sitting upstairs. Staff seem nice but you don't really get to speak to them. Food came out lukewarm so eat it fast or it will be cold. Toast was has l dry as they forgot the butter and it was hard to bit into so left it. Breakfasts had items left off and had to ask for them so did other tables. The milpots on the table were empty but didn't se staff to ask for more. Pepper pots empty as well. Know one asks if things are OK or not. There is no real customer service. It's a shame as it could be lovely otherwise There is no atmosphere no music or anything one of the toilet locks in broken and the dryers are so slow that you can't dry your hands and they should stand there for ages and upstate is cold the seating

First time here, it was very busy, staff were lovely, breakfast was great apart from the sausage i wasnt keen on. Milky coffee was only warm would of liked it hot,would definitely visit again, prices very good.

avoid this place. applied for a job that they were advertising on indeed only to wait about two weeks for no reply. decided to call up the store with it going straight to the answering machine TWICE despite them being open. DON’T advertise a job, when people are going to want to apply and consider working there if you’re not even going to respond back or even show any interest in taking in a new candidate …??

In the past hughie was a great little cafe but our visit this time was awful! , staff couldn't cope , first my drink was wrong after we had waited a considerable time for them , had to ask again . Then when our food came out my mums was missing item s and the toast was inedible, my cob was rock solid and I had to take the filling out to eat it , its sad that it has gone downhill!

Despite a little overcooked on the vegetarian sausage, the food was really nice and was served quickly. A quaint little cafe and great value for money.

Hughies is an amazing and wonderful cafe, I personally can not praise it enough for how amazing it is! Everytime I go in town I will end up going hughies for lunch, and its a genuin highlight of my day! My grandma introduced me to the cafe when I was little and since then, its mine and my friends favourite cafe to visit on weekdays and saturdays! The food is amazing, the atmosphere is beautiful and its overall a great place to have lunch! (Or breakfast, full english is great)

Great wee cafe in Leicester city centre. Food was reasonably priced and good sized portions. We ordered the English Breakfast and toasties. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. Toilets are upstairs. Seating available up and downstairs.

Really disappointed!!! I used to love coming in here. This is the first time I've been in a couple of years the prices have really jumped up. Especially given the value of the food received. Waiting over 20 mins for an omlette and salad. No mayo for the salad. I mean really what kind of place doesn't have mayonnaise when they serve salad. So I paid extra on top of the omlette to have salad only to not be able to eat it. Such a waste. There cold drink section is terrible they only have Coke, lemonade or Dr pepper, milkshakes (which are a ridiculous price for the size of it) or juices. Which I don't drink so I definitely will not be coming back again unfortunately. Such a shame as like I said a few years ago the food and service was great.

I love going hugies, until the staff changed. Forget to your order through to kitchen, this happen on more than six times in a month.

Went in today had college pie was lovely and hot.my husband had poach eggs on toast he said best poach eggs he had .will be going in next week .only thing disappointing in was the hot chocolate

The last 2 times we’ve been our big breakfasts came over cooked but cold our plates felt greasy ie not been washed properly really disappointed with how downhill the food has gone 😕

The food is nice but it's a shame you have to pay to swap an item in the breakfast, I can't eat beans and don't like tomatoes so asked to swap for extra sausage which is included in the breakfast and black pudding. I don't mind paying the charge for the black pudding as its not already included but the sausage is.

Pleasantly surprised, definitely not what I was expecting. Food was good, hot, freshly cooked but a little slow in preparation. My coffee was hot and strong but not particularly nice. Will probably go back.

I paid extra for a hash brown and they were both burnt to a crisp, the sausages were cheap and the egg was rock solid like it had been cooked for 5 minutes. The hashbrowns were burnt to a crisp and waiting for it made me late to work, just to eat it and be disappointed.

wow what a breakfast... great service and tasty food... it is definitely value for money , very limited waiting time and hot breakfast and friendly service..... will definitely recommend and visit them again

I order vegetarian Sausages and mash and they didnt give me the vegetables i requested at the till, i were still a bit hungry afterwards. Staff are not that polite like when i go elsewhere, they normally ask is the food okay and if i'm happy. I find the staff rude and they just walk past you and give you filthy looks. I will not return again, not another penny out of me.

Service terrible blanked by the servers table not cleaned. Latest update ordered my take out swore at by a member of staff then chased outside with another member of staff accusing me of not paying

They staff were very rude and unfriendly, I waited a long period of time for my food and it was cold by the time I got it. When I got the food it wasn’t what I had ordered at the till and they had gotten the order wrong. Would not recommend this to friends.

Clean restaurant, friendly staff and adequate portions but you lose a star for lumpy gravy. Other than that top marks

What a gem this place is, hidden away from the main drag but we'll worth finding. Proper English breakfast at a great price. Service was quick and the staff were friendly .

bacon tasteless, same as sausages, no fried slice ( except as extra, no black pudding again as extra), but you do get hash brown, WHICH IS NOT ENGLIS, IT'S AMERICAN. not sure if it's changed hands, but deffo gone down hill :( do not advertise as a full ENGLISH WHEN IT HAS AMERICAN CRAP, BUT HAVE TO PAY EXTRAFOR ENGLISH

Just walked out after waiting for 20ish minutes to order food,went to counter to order food and staff just walked past me to the a table near mine to take there order after they came after us ???? Won't go again

So I’ve been going here as a regulars with my dad , never had a bad meal - I’ve had omelettes - salads the famous cottage pie and veg , dad loves his breakfasts from here , very well priced home made delicious meals

Great little cafe, away from the hustle and bustle of the street and a lovely building too. My friend and I each had a Small Breakfast around mid-morning, which was perfectly cooked and enough to keep us full until teatime. Highly recommended, very tasty food, and excellent value for money.

Was 2 years in the waiting to go there again with my mum to catch up and have some great food too. Was so happy it has survived the pandemic struggles many businesses have. Lovely place hidden away from the hussles of the city and the Coffee not sure which one I had was amazing. Posted photo of said coffee.

We've used the cafe twice for breakfast now, even during the pandemic the staff are polite and attentive. The breakfast is excellent, now heres the but, it doesn't include the price of the drink, so tea or coffee costs extra. That said, the place itself is nice. It would've been 5 stars but for the drink not being included.

Really busy, just for me it didnt feel very homely, and again for me the food was so so, cheap sausage, burnt toast and bacon and a runny egg and im not on about the yolk, it was my first time and my last!! Sorry

Went here on the first week of them reopening for a full English breakfast staff are warm and welcoming and food is fantastic definitely recommend and will be returning very shortly.

I usually go in almost every day ,love it so friendly,staff are so nice specially Sharon shanie but they are lovely,food is done to order ,it gets busy so you might have to wait,but not problem,they are very clean ,always cleaning,I miss going at moment,but it’s not the cafe it’s the buses don’t like an I haven’t a car,but Thanku all hope it won’t belong when we back

Went into town with the family and separated to run some errands. Was looking for a cafe on Trip Advisor to take a rest and found this place - not a very obvious cafe to notice but apparantly its been there for 6 or more years. Have to say I think its excellent. It's nicely hidden away from the hustle and bustle and noise of town. The food menu is great. I just had a tea and their warm Xmas roast turkey cob which was very tasty. Definitely a place I'd go again if I'm in the area.

Very well priced little cafe off the beaten track a little. Very clean, I believe you can judge the cleanliness of the kitchen by that of the toilet, and they were clean and smelt of bleach so was freshly done, not bad for lunchtime. The only negative was I didn’t get a dessert as I was waiting too long for someone to come take my order otherwise was really nice - especially given how cheap it is. (Though I do think charging 30p for tap water is not great and possibly illegal)

Was here with my sister-in-law, her son and my partner was very unhappy with the service provided. I was told to pay upfront even though everyone else was paying after their meal because I am younger then usual clients. Very rude very humiliating will not be using this service again unless they have new professional owner/staff.

Best cafe in Leicester. Great service with great prices a rare find. Cannot go wrong with their breakfasts and would highly recommend. The staff are all very friendly and professional. Definitely one for the list when out and about in town. You will not find better value for money anywhere. I look forward to coming back soon and leaving with a full tummy...YUM

Best cafe in Leicester. Spotlessly clean, tasty food, served quickly. Could not have asked for more. The low prices do not reflect the standard of food you receive. I am very impressed by this establishment and the friendly, welcoming staff just make this place an absolute joy to visit. I will definitely be back and will be recommending it to everyone!

Its so refreshing to get typical English food with fresh vegetables. Everything is cooked to order and they serve traditional dishes such as all day breakfast, roast dinners, cottage pie, burger meal, cobs, toasties. Lovely coffee too! All at very reasonable prices, the last time I went I had cottage pie, knickerboker glory and a milky coffee (£5.95 + £2.95 + £1.50) which came to £10.40. They even do kids portions to suit everyone as you just order how many of which item you would like eg 2 sausages egg & roast potatoes and they do it so everyone is happy and we just pay for the items ordered. Waitress' are always lovely and nothing is too much trouble.

The food was excellent we first came for time. We had the breakfast best in Leicester. 😋

This is perfect for those looking for a hearty breakfast that is served until the middle of the afternoon after a heavy night of debauchery. Everything you would expect for a £3.95 full English, good fodder for the remainder of the day. Sat outside which is a great little courtyard off the main road with bags of potential, very little of it realised. Service was no-nonsense which again comes with the price tag but they got the order right and plonked it down on our table so I’m not complaining. 4 stars due to price point.

Tasty breakfast, friendly staff and cheap

Hughies is situated at the side of Hughies shop. It's always busy with two floors. The menu is varied with quality, good priced food ie chicken pie, mash and peas. A variety of all day breakfasts, burgers, puddings etc. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Would recommend this cafe with confidence.
