Cafe Mbriki in Leicester

Love this independent cafe - quaint, good food, and friendly staff.

We topped here for a snack and couldn’t fault it. Friendly staff and the food was exactly what we needed. We would definitely visit again.

When I came in I thought the cafe was lovely, a young Asian lady took my order. I later learned she was also the chef, which was strange for her to also be working the till/front of house with 2 colleagues chatting away behind her. I sat down and waited for my order to come - only to find it severely burnt. I made sure to attempt to eat it to ensure that it didn’t just look burnt. Unfortunately, the burnt reality of the waffle made its consistency biscuit-like and its taste slightly bitter masked by the healthy dollop of biscoff and two mounds consisting of whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Fortunately, when brought up the chef/front of house happily replaced my order with a much more palatable and not at all burnt fresh waffle complete with the same toppings as before. This greatly rescued my breakfast dining experience for me. When I asked a different staff member for a glass of water for my companion. She agreed then I watched her walk outside the shop, check her phone and chat to someone outside the shop. We left without the tap water we asked for as we had waited long enough. I wouldn’t want to work here if the brunt of the work was being placed on one staff member resulting in sub par service and food (at-least initially).

Not very impressed here, ordered my breakfast, the young lady forgot to mention when I paid for my breakfast that they sold out of sausage (big part of the meal). Stay away from this place, it’s greesy, tables are dirty and the staff just stand in the kitchen laughing and joking away.

Love this little independent cafe. Interesting selection of coffees. I had the beetroot Mocha I believe it was…so nice. Really good selection on menu including for vegan and vegetarian. My new little fave to eat when I’m there.

Providing various drink options.As well as its name，there is greek coffee. But the cake is too sweet for me.

Lovely hot chocolate here - I’ve had the salted caramel hot chocolate every time and it’s incredible. Great menu with lots to offer for breakfast or lunch or just a snack and all at great value. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Relaxed and cosy atmosphere.

I've been here several times and never reviewd, and I should. Never had a bad lunch or coffee here. Today for lunch the drinks, food and service was great... as always. Polite staff, quick service and hot tasty food. Lovely venue inside too!

We visited this nice cafe last Saturday. It was a cold morning and we were in search of a nice hot drink. So glad we stumbled across this cafe. We had the Gingery Gingerbread Hot Chocolate, Cappuccino and Old School Cake. It all hit the spot!!! Staff were friendly and drinks and cakes were perfect. Thanks

Lovely but did stop serving food early

Went for breakfast this morning, upon entering the cafe there was no greeting from the server behind the counter. She didn’t even acknowledge us coming in, which we noticed straight away. Then we went to order, she didn’t seem the slightest bit bothered. It was quiet since it was early, but there was 0 atmosphere. Had we not said thank you once we finished and left, I don’t think the server would’ve said anything at all. Customer service is 0. Food was average.

I called in while visiting Leicester to eat one of the delicious Vegan Cakery cakes that they stock (I knew about it via VC social media posts). The cafe is cosy and welcoming with a nice clean loo. Its location is extremely handy for visiting the interesting old part of town (Guildhall, Richard III Visitor Centre etc). While I was in there I must have dropped my purse. I only noticed after an hour or so of sightseeing, but when I went back in a panic I was immediately handed the purse complete with all the contents. So five stars for kind and honest staff and (probably!) customers too! I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Leicester.

We popped in here on the off chance because it looked nice as we walked past... Glad we did. Lovely hot beverages and tasty snacks served by two nice members of staff. Quite an extensive menu for a small place too.... very clean and tidy also.

This place was great. One of the best ploughman's I've had. Delicious food and really nice cafe.

Not bad coffee, but very average cakes. Looked sad under cling film. One had marshmallow brownie and other maple & pecan tart - neither of us particularly enjoyed. I wouldn’t rush back

I hang out with some friends there. It was a cute little place, relaxing, quiet, with a few customers working on their laptops. We only tried sweet dishes and drinks. No issue with any of them. All were good. In summary, it’s another nice coffee shop in the area

Very nice vegan cakes. Menu is varied but could use more plant-based breakfast options beyond the usual beans, sausage and toast.

It's ok. The English breakfast was a bit of a let down. Scrambled eggs were overcooked for me and the bacon was 40% burnt black. Friends food didn't exactly look nice either. The price was fine for what it was.

We were really disappointed with our visit. Staff were pleasant and the setting ok, we were really looking forward to a lovely breakfast/lunch. Hot drinks prices were a little steep and the quality of food was terrible. Such a let down. We had a sausage baguette for my daughter, English breakfast and Greek breakfast. I really don't know how you can get a fry up wrong. It was all watery and rasted of nothing, plus the toast was burnt black and I had to ask for a fresh slice. (Such poor standards to even serve the burnt toast! Very bizarre. My partners toast was also burnt on the Greek breakfast but with a young baby he just couldn't be bothered with the hassle of asking for more fresh toast for him too). The quality of food being used for these three dishes was just so poor. The sausages were pale horrible looking things and they didn't taste much better. I dread to think what the meat content was! Scrambled egg was watery and tasteless. Grilled tomato was the same. And the bacon also taste of nothing, along with the hash browns. I think the food suppliers seriously need looking at, as it reminded me of a terrible buffet breakfast or old school dinners. Such poor quality food. We also expected the Greek breakfast to be alot more appealing. My partner said the sausage tasted ok but it was a tiny skinny thing - we actually chuckled at the state of his plate. A pale cheap looking piece of ham, two bits of cucumber and two slices of tomato, some olives and a boiled egg. I probably could have made something more authentically Greek at home...with more flavour too. We'd been looking for an independent cafe for about half an hour and we were sadly disappointed. We really wanted to love it. Maybe other things on the menu were OK but it's unlikely we would return to find out. Such a shame. But in the meantime, I'd really recommend they look onto sourcing better quality food and working harder on what they out together as it was a disaster! We went elsewhere in the silver arcade afterwards as we were starving! Positives were the potential, the pleasant atmosphere and the staff were nice. Just Such a shame about their standards...even if they couldn't do anything about the produce...charcoaled toast isn't hard to re-do before serving! Very poor

I just love this place! Whenever my mum and I pop into town we always head here for lunch! Freshly made food! Freshly cooked! Great service! Friendly staff! Definitely place. Great value for money. Have been using the little cafe for years now! Always happy with my meal! Thank you!

Visited just before Christmas and have remembered the cafe being open for years (or as long as I can remember) and service has always been excellent. The staff on shift were so lovely and helpful, brought our food and drinks over to the table in good time and atmosphere is lovely, everyone tends to keep to themselves but makes it nice for being able to have a catchup without everyone hearing your conversations. Gets full really quickly and it's no surprise - priced very reasonably and food is of good quality. No time limit on how long you can stay for either.

Rather small portions for quite a bit of money and nothing too unique. Nothing to complain about, tasty food esp the waffles were nice.

What a fantastic gem of a cafe! Defo worth a visit if in Leicester. A huge and very tasty menu, especially if it’s around Christmas for the festive additions! The Black Forest hot chocolate is to die for!!!

The only place the kids want to eat when we go into town for lunch. They especially love the different cakes. I enjoy the dairy free options for me. Xx

Excellent with nice individual menu

Good points : Friendly welcome, rapid service, many vegan/gluten free options. Food OK with some interesting Greek/Cypriot options Not so good points : Bit pricey...pushing £10 a head for basic lunchtime snack+drink. Background music inside too loud : I didn't mind the music being played, it just needed to be quieter! And maybe we sat in a poor place but any time anyone went to the loo, the sound of the hand driers drowned out conversation at our table inside. So not bad and anyone visiting will do OK with the food served , but just in a place like Leicester where there are so many tempting independents I think there might be places with better ambience.

Intimate eaterie with versatile menu and comfy feel.

Soup was great, but did not get much. All day vegan breakfast was too dry. Wife did not get what she wanted.

I do like this little cafe,and always go there when in the city.. Ideal for light lunches in central setting .staff friendly and helpful, so just relax.. Downside...., Don't sit near the loo .Hand drier makes an awful row

One of my fave coffee spots! ⭐️ I very often come here when meeting friends or family members in town! I’ve never had a bad experience and friends/ family are always pleasantly surprised. It’s central but tucked away nicely, so most people don’t notice it/ walk by unknowingly. They have some Gluten free and vegan options available. They serve a wide variety of breakfast and lunchtime meals including: Coffees with every syrup flavour, Milkshakes, Ice cream floats, Smoothies, All day breakfast, Waffles, Greek mezze plates, Panninis, toasties, baguettes, Sandwiches, cakes, jacket potatoes, and more! My only criticism is that Staff members/ waitresses sometimes forget that customer can hear EVERYTHING they talk about in the kitchen as it’s a quaint little cafe! (You can tell when management is in vs when they aren’t) But other then that, I always have a pleasant visit

Every food Greek coffee, not too bitter and not too heavy. Lack of options to pick beans with is a shame. Cakes are good, not overly sweet and you can taste, that there are fresh. Great and friendly service, kind and knowledgeable.

Not busy but still a long wait , English breakfast was terrible beans & egg tasteless cheap unbranded & as if they were attempted to be cooked in a microwave , prices are fine but not for the low quality avoid , tried this place as a change to miss bridges & mbriki was a terrible comedown never again Avoid at all costs Get your standards sorted !

One of my fave places to go for a lite bite in Leicester. I hope they bring back 'goubes' on the menu.

Nice little cafe with friendly staff, when the suns out, sit outside order a grilled panini and if you like strong coffee make sure you order a 'greek coffee'.

This has to be the worst English breakfast I’ve ever had. Do not recommend it. Cheap, frozen ingredients used. Frozen, tasteless sausages probably bulk bought, bacon stiff, burnt and totally inedible. Scrambled eggs were made from powdered eggs and the beans totally bland. Absolute waste of money and bad experience. Other food maybe ok here but the English breakfast to be avoided!

This place has become our favourite new place to eat. They have everything on their menu, the service is good and the food is always fresh! Love this place!

It started badly: chaotic how do we order malarkey. We worked it out for ourselves. Ordered hot drinks, cups picked up by placing all fingers into the cups. Tea arrived with chipped pots of hot water and the tea bag on the saucer. One question. Why? I ordered smashed avocado. My brother had the club sandwich. I asked for vegan butter with my avocado. “Is butter ok on the other one?” The one being a chicken, bacon and mayonnaise affair, go figure. Oh, whilst I’m here, mint mayo. Sorry, what pardon. Finally, when lunch arrived it was delivered frisbee style. For the prices charged. Shocking. My vegan butter never materialised and so I battled on with my knife, trying not to ping two very small slices of toast across the room. They didn’t need to be big. Half a small avocado doesn’t go far. Service was shambolic. Food was mediocre. We went because we like to support small independents, but not to leave disappointed - or in my case, bloody hungry and thirsty from battling dry toast. With so many places to choose from in Leicester, only go here if everywhere else is closed.

Extremely nice food prepared and served by friendly staff. Their Greek salads are so nice.

First time visit. Enjoyed the coffee and cake that was fairly priced. Before leaving went to the toilet, no soap. Came out and told the waitress that there was no soap in the toilet. She apologised and said they had ran out of soap and there was none available at all! Really alarming they continue to serve hot and cold food / drinks without having the requirements to wash their hands properly. Just go out and get some! If you ran out of milk you would replace it on the spot - it is essential as that. Will never return.

Nipped in here for a cake and a coffee and they didn't disappoint. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Price was reasonable and food / drink was tasty.

Reheated frozen falafel like you buy in lidl/aldi on top of some lettuce leaves and tomato for nearly £6. Total rip off. Buy falafel from genuine traditional cafe for same price don't waste your money. For similar price la foret do amazing salad with genuine falafel, couscous, mix salad, pitta, homemade houmous olives, etc, I don't know why this place mbriki make no effort to make the food nice.

Disappointed. £6 for a sandwich. The cheese wasn't even grated just cut into large chunks. Lettuce was changing colour so not fresh.

Im learning Greek so it was nice to be able to put into pratice what I know. With the young lady who served me (i thing related to the owner but saddly i didn't get a name to add to the review. ) I ordered in Greek Γειά σου καλησπερα , ένας σκέτος καφές παρακαλώ. She told me that she didn't speak much Greek so we both joked about how useless language apps are honestly when will I ever need to use "το ροζ ρύζι' or 'ο αρχιτέκτονας με το τσιγάρο'. Please thank her for making my visit one of the best ever. Will 100% be back once more

I planned my visit to Leicester including coming here for lunch so I had in my mind what to order and what to expect. However, nothing went as planned. The lack of service threw me a bit. There was no waiting staff to direct you a table. Yes, it's a very small place that you could easily work out which table was occupied or not but for solo travellers like myself, I'd rather not risk leaving my possession on a table or chair then go and order at the counter. Like I said, there is no waiting staff so you must order at the counter. Not only that, there was nobody who would ask you how the food or drink was as well as clearing up the tables. I originally wanted (was literally eyeing on) the platter for one Goubes but it was unavailable. I ended up ordering Greek breakfast at £5.60 and a hot chocolate at £3. The price is reasonable considering it's situated in the city centre. I quite enjoyed their hot chocolate - silky and not too sweet. On the contrary, the Greek breakfast was just ok but there was definitely no wow factor to it.

I want you to drink at this coffeehouse. The ambiance is nice, but not kitschy. They seat outdoors in Leicester's Lanes. Their coffee is delicious and the prices have not lifted off in the way they elsewhere because of the pandemic. Free Wi-Fi and cosy indoor chairs. Neat selection of deserts, sandwiches, and Greek-inspired meals

I had the Greek breakfast. It was great value for money and the ingredients work well together. I personally preferred it to a traditional English. Service was friendly, quick and efficient.

I felt that the cafe was small and claustrophobic and this is aside from social distancing measures it is still tiny. Decor is ok but nothing synonymous with cosy cafe. Service was ok if a little lacking i had to ask for example to have my dirty table cleaned which in light of covid, does not bode well. I felt prices were a tad on the high side didn't really get the feeling of value for money. The bacom baguettes however were very nice and the bacon wasn't fatty with lots of rind on it. All in all not the best or my fave but not exactly shabby either.

Nipped in for Breakfast on Monday morning. Had a lovely Bacon and Sausage sandwich. The staff were lovely, everything was very COVID friendly. The food and drinks were fantastic. Would highly recommend!

Lovely selection of fresh quality healthy dishes. Lovely ambiance. I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans, which comes with side salad and homemade coleslaw. The coleslaw was so tasty and fresh. The potato oven baked fluffy and a nice big size. Loved it. Only reason for not giving 5 Stars is the skin of the jacket potato wasn't crispy, but that is nitpicking. Overall a great experience.
