Hughie's Cafe in Rother

I often come here for morning coffee with friends and we are normally very happy with the coffee, but the last couple of times we have all agreed that the coffee is not as good as it used to be. Is it a different kind of coffee or do you have a new Barista? It is always very busy when we come so perhaps the coffee making has just been a bit rushed? I wonder whether anyone else has said anything. Hope it was just a blip as we love everything else about the cafe.

Lovely refreshing hot tea and cakes. Delicious and great views. Wonderful service. We live here and can’t fault Hughies

Just Fabulous Visited today with my two boys. We all had Toasted Bacon Sandwiches. The staff so accommodating, crispy bacon, bacon with fat off - nothing was too much for them. Oh and the milkshakes are THE BEST we have had, we had strawberry and chocolate- would highly recommend them and Hughie's for a delicious lunch with a fab view as well!! Thank you

Walked past and saw that it had a great view so doubled back to join the rest of the people enjoying the view and what turned out to be a lovely cup of tea. So glad I did, the people that run it are really friendly and can't do enough for you (my tea was on my table before I got there!) There was a bit of faffing around over which cake I was going for ( me not them) the coffee and walnut cake was recommended by another customer but it looked huge. Unbelievably I was offered half a slice for half the price! Now that's what I call service! Lovely people, excellent service and a cracking view. My only regret is not going for the full slice of cake🙄

What a little gem of a place! Hughie’s provides the perfect beach side setting for brunch, lunch and everything else in between. We had the best coffee in Bexhill, to the sound of the waves and my request for a Slimming World friendly sandwich was helpfully greeted by the owner with a fellow slimmer’s smile and lots of enthusiastic suggestions. The resulting tuna and mixed salad on brown was freshly prepared and fabulous. We’ve also had unbelievably good fish finger sandwiches here too! Great value, great quality food and lovely staff. Hughie’s is our go-to cafe if we’re in town shopping or out for a stroll along The Colonade.

Great food, great service, friendly staff, loads of choice and fair price. Well-worth the trip for brunch. Recommend it to everyone!

Stopped by and had a delicious oat milk caramel latte and a piece of vegan Bischoff cake. Great service, lovely view.

Fantastic place! We stumbled upon this when visiting Bexhill on sea for the first time today. We had a coffee and walnut cake and a cheese scone and two iced coffees which were all tasty and delicious. Unfortunately our bulldog had a table mishap and managed to knock all the plates onto the floor and smash them all. The staff were so understanding and told us not to worry at all which we really appreciated! Will definitely visit again and thanks again for the understanding you showed us and our very guilty looking dog! 😂😂

Came here with my boyfriend, both ordered Mozzarella and pesto toasties. Were amazing as always, service was friendly and welcoming as usual. Another great lunch 😊 Would recommend to anybody in the area wanting great food.

always go for lunch here when we visit Bexhill. Food is excellent, reasonably priced, lovely lattes and cakes to die for. The people that work there are the friendliest people I have met and nothing is too much. Moving down here in a month so this will be my regular haunt. Can't wait

What a find ! Right on the seafront , fabulous sea view .... Food fantastic value - 1 x sandwich , 1 toasted sandwich both on lovely fresh bloomer bread , generously filled with fresh ingredients , super tasty. Couldn't resist trying the home made cakes though - ginger cake and scone with lots of jam and clotted cream , clean plates all round ! Also good quality coffee. It is so rare to find places like this that offer good food and true value for money . Looking forward to a return visit ......... Staff were also very welcoming and helpful , thank you !

I visit Bexhill to see my mum several times a year and always make a point on my daily walk to stop at Hughies. The friendly service and the magnificent bacon sandwich taken overlooking the ever changing seascape is a delight not to be missed.

Pop in here often for a coffee, breakfast, brunch or some delicious cake. High quality food, homemade cakes, excellent coffee and friendly staff and service! Doggy biscuits for the pups too. Love this place, highly recommend!

the bacon sandwich I had was absolutely beautiful and the service felt like family and set in a lovely beach location.

Firstly to busy on "their phone" to serve me... Ordered by sandwich... and a coffee. The warm coffee arrived fairy quickly.. if it had, had milk put in it, it would had been COLD!. Waited to long for my sausage & egg sandwich, & when it was brought to me by a member of staff who plonked it on the table with the remake "Theres your healthy sandwich". It was warm... greasy... and pretty tasteless, and had bacon in which i did not want. Btw... if they are going to employ staff that obviously have an issue with a person eating a "not healthy food options" they should simply keep thier opinions to themselves or they should go & work in a gym.

Hughies is a gem of a cafe, the staff are so friendly and the prices are very reasonable. We enjoyed the most delicious ginger cake imaginable and a lovely mug of tea, our dog was very pleased with her dog biscuit and the sun shone, what more could you ask for.

Came down with my boyfriend for some lunch, and earlier on for his morning coffee. Food was amazing, coffee was really good. he had a mocha on a dog walk which tasted lovely, then a latte later on with lunch (Brie and bacon toasted sandwich) and I had an oat hot chocolate after enjoying a sausage, bacon and egg sandwich. We would both 100% recommend this place for food, staff super friendly, affordable prices and food is made to order and they aren’t stingy with portions! Totally worth the money and overall great experience. Will definitely be popping down here often for a morning coffee on dog walks and lunch date with the boyfriend 😁 They are dog friendly and gave my dog a treat from a jar they have on the dog walk this morning too, great service!

We have been here three times. The first time the wait was so long we lost the will to live, let alone eat or drink. The second time we waited and waited and found they had forgotten our order. We thought they must have improved so risked it again this morning. Unbelievably they forgot our order yet again. When we did get it, the coffee was lukewarm and the flapjack leaden and unpleasant. Never again, despite the view.

I've visited a few times and more recently yesterday. The staff are the friendliest staff you will find in Bexhill - so caring, kind and warm hearted. They go above and beyond for their customers. The food is lovely, the view amazing and they are super dog friendly too. What's not to love? It's a little gem in Bexhill.

After the great reviews on here I was expecting a great deal more. Unfriendly service which others had commented on and can’t say the offerings made up for that. Disappointing.

Always friendly and great cakes….🧁 Dog friendly, blankets in the winter and a lovely location. Have been visiting regularly for a few years. Shame they are limited for space…..worth waiting for a table to come free.

Absolutely love this little place So well run and my boyfriend and I were hooked after visiting and on one morning decided to stop at the smell of the cooking , the sausage sarni was amazing chunky bread full of sausages no skimping on portions...

At Hughies you can get a cup of ea for £1. What a deal. Also, nice snacks and other drinks all great value. Best of all you sit within yards of the sea and can hear the waves rolling the pebbles and get the best...

My favourite cafe stop when cycling. Friendly family run, good range of food for breakfast and lunches. Homemade cakes by Sandra (owner) are the best in the county - try the coffee and walnut, superb. Great location too.

I really fancied a piece of cake after work yesterday so popped into Hughies for some to take away for me and my family. We had Ginger, Tea Loaf, Carrot and Choc Orange. All the cakes were delicious and the portions were a great size. Perfect with a cup of tea. Thank you Hughies

We all enjoyed a lovely sunny morning here at Hughie's Beach Cafe in Bexhill. Table reservation accommodated and really appreciated - brilliant coffee and great sandwiches enjoyed by all, especially the toasties.

Stopped here by chance. We had just a arrived in Bexhill, and walked to the prom, saw the cafe and decided to stop. Great decision. The ladies were very friendly and helpful, and the food and service were great. I would definitely recommend the bread pudding, one of the best I have ever had. I would say that if you are in the area, definitely stop off at Hughies.

This cafe is where the locals go for great coffee friendly service and the views are amazing even in the winter months when blankets are handed out if needed. They have a reward card 1 free coffee for every 9 bought, the cakes are always fresh and bacon buns and welcomed .It feels good to sit out there and know that you are supporting a small family run business This was all before the lockdown. The cafe now serves drinks in take away cups and cake on paper plates but still very good value. and the staff are still very friendly so well worth a visit and time of the year.

We regularly stop to have a drink and snack at this extremely friendly Beachside cafe.We were fortunate to make two visits this week, one with our son and one with our daughter and each time we were lucky to get tables. Our son enjoyed his very reasonably priced toasted sandwich and our daughter loved her bacon one.Easy to order and prompt service with quality insulated coffee cups & lids.Well Done to you all.

Birthday treat as lockdown was easing, many places weren’t open, or we’re doing breakfast. We tried Hughes, which had a limited menu to enable them to serve some food whilst cooking within the rules. Sausage sandwich well filled, nice coffee, choice of teas, nicely priced, overlooking the sea. The Bacon Sandwich also well filled with decent bacon. What’s not to like?

Went this morning with my husband and son I had a fish finger and salad sandwich husband had a bacon sarnie. It was the best sandwich I’ve ever had and my husband said it was the best bacon sarnie he’d ever had and he’s had a few! Sophs sarnies my new fave thing!!!!

Really good value food, lovely tuna melts and lattes and staff are very nice and kind. Elderly couple had their whole slice of cake stolen in front of them by seagulls and lady kindly replaced with another drink free of charge.

Met some friends after lockdown and we all had a coffee and bacon or sausage sandwich, we sat in the beach to eat, we all said how delicious it was. Staff very good and friendly and adapted to social distancing perfect, will be back.

Terrific cafe right on the promenade next to the rowing club, where you can rub shoulders with Rother's leading politicians, including Cllrs. Doug Oliver and Terry Byrne, and local 'creatives', including writer Sean Cassidy (author of Lust Orders!). Great community spirit and charming, friendly staff. Cakes are all homemade and bacon sandwiches are a popular choice among a wide range of snacks. Feeling a little chilly around the knees on a windy day? The staff will offer you a blanket. A real sun trap. Friendly regulars, as well as visitors "having a day at the seaside and vowing to return".Dogs are particularly welcome.

On 30 December 2019 I visited this cafe towards the end of a walking challenge. When the staff knew what I'd done, they were kindness itself, providing fantastic food and drink and even offered me a blanket to keep warm! I can't ever recall receiving such a lovely welcome in any cafe or restaurant. Thank you so much and keep up the good work.

This outside cafe is directly on Bexhill seafront prommenard. Very central to the De la Warr Pravilion. It's a great place to have a tea or coffee with a snack while soaking up the views of the beach, sea and family's enjoying their walk or cycle ride.

Popped in a few times. Really good little stop. Whatever you have is good and always service with a smile. Often very busy and getting a seat can be hard......getting a level table even harder!! Well worth a try. Recommended.

We needed a coffee before our journey home but they looked to be putting their outdoor tables and chairs away, when we asked they kindly gave us a seat with great views of the beach. Coffee was nice and strong and so was the ginger loaf and Victoria sponge cake.

I did not realise they did salads and we stoped for coffee, I had a halloumi salad was delicious! Cheese toasty for my niece. Lovely spot on the seafront and great service.

One of our favourite watering holes in Bexhill. Always made to feel welcome, great value and beautiful homemade cakes and lunches made to order. They also make a really good cup of tea! Just had a lovely feta and sundried tomato salad and hubby had a bacon, cheese and onion toastie - both were wonderful.

A little gem! We ordered three salads at £5 each. Absolutely lovely! 5 Stars - fresh and great presentation too. Definitely worth a visit but cash only. The coffee is good too :)

We were on a bike ride along the seafront when we found this lovely place. I have to say I had the best bacon and Brie toastie that I have ever had plus a large pot of tea with my friend. My friend enjoyed a cheese and tomato panini as well and it was all so reasonably priced. I definitely recommend

Been here often and have always recieved a warm friendly welcome. Well worth a stop if you are thirsty or feeling peckish.The cakes are delicious..love the victoria sponge cake,,,yum yum..plenty of other snacks to choose from too...nothing is too much touble.

Little cafe right on the promenade offering Tea, Coffee, ices and a great array of home made cafes. I tried their Lime and Courgette cake which was a risk for me, but actually it was very tasty indeed! Dog friendly too.

My daughter and I were searching for restaurants in Bexhill who serve gluten free dishes. My daughter is coeliac so this is very important. After a Tripadvisor search we decided on Hughie’s and weren’t disappointed. We has a good value lunch in a pleasant location. My “vat” of soup was delicious and my daughter’s toasted gluten free tuna mayo sandwich was excellent also. We couldn’t resist rounding off our meal with a fruit scone and a piece of gluten free flapjack. The staff were friendly and attentive and we fell for the proprietor’s seven month old bulldog. We’ll certainly come again, next time with my wife.

First visit to Bexhill, in search of a modest seaside afternoon tea - by which I mean a big cup, a view of the promenade and beach and a choice of two or more cakes that weren't too tired. Had a lacklustre search in biting wind, then bullseye Hughies! This was near to closing time on a Sunday in March, mind you, but the cakes might have only just cooled from the oven. Home made, fresh, flavourful and moist, varied and inexpensive - these ticked every box. The three of us couldn't decide between flapjack, sticky ginger loaf, coffee and walnut and Victoria sponge so we shared all four enormous slices, washed down with big individual mugs of tea. There were gluten free options and scones too. We were so glad that everywhere else was shut and we found Hughies - not to be missed!

Located right on the seafront - we always stop here for a coffee, sandwich or cake. Toasties are delicious & cakes yummy! Service is excellent very friendly & one of the reasons we always head here rather than other seafront places.

Lovely spot for a hot drink and a quick snack on the seafront promenade. Service is excellent, everything is reasonably priced and there is a good range of snacks should you feel a little hungry.

Often stop off there for a cup of tea and a piece of cake , I especially think their bread pudding is the best in town . The staff are always very friendly and they are dog friendly . The bonus is that you sit there with your tea and cake right by the beach !

Lovely little cafe on the seafront with the hardworking and pleasant staff essentially working out of a cupboard. A few tables so you have to time your visit but a great place to have a drink and a piece of cake and watch the sea. Better value and better views than the De La Ware pavilion which is immediately behind.

This cafe is situated right on the seafront at Bexhill. You must definitely visit as the food is excellent, especially the home made cakes. Do try the coffee and walnut one. It is irresistible. The staff are friendly and helpful. It’s somewhere we visit each time we go to Bexhill. A real gem.

Have occasionally had coffee and cake/sandwich at this place and visited again on Saturday morning. It really is an idyllic spot to sit and watch the world go by. The service is superb and the staff (I think it is family-run) are so helpful and friendly. The coffee is excellent - even get a glass a water with the espresso. They also cater for gluten free diets. They obviously work very hard and deserve to do well. Highly recommended.

We love this family run cafe, the coffee is excellent and the bacon sandwiches really good served by really nice people. Only one criticism though, their opening times are a little variable as they are not always open at 9ish, it can be more around 1000, a little late for breakfast.

Great location to people watch and stop with your dog. Sandwiches and homemade cakes are fabulous and service is also very good. Well worth a visit.

We stopped for coffee one morning and our order was forgotten. We were pretty fed up as it does rather spoil things. When we reminded the staff we eventually got our - very good - coffee and a nice scone and a flapjack. A little while later the lady who took our order, possibly the manageress, came out and apologised and said we wouldn't have to pay. When I checked with her before we left that that was ok, she assured me it was, apologised sincerely again and said: 'Just come back!' We will.

Had a couple of toastie sandwiches (one cheese, one tuna). Both excellent and very good value, super service even though they were very busy!

I drink black coffee with no sugar and this is the best in town. That says something as all Bexhill cafes are independents and the standard is high. The home made cakes, bread pud and bacon sarnies are all excellent. Also (to be fair like other Bexhill cafes) great effort is made to open up if the weather is OK, whatever the time of year. The owners are so friendly they can be seen to give drinks to the likes of council workers and lifeguards. A joy to visit.

This is a lovely little place to sit in the sunshine and look at the sea. The service was really good and a pot of tea for two was about £2.50 so a real bargain and still in a proper teapot. Can't fault.

Love going to this place, great location, great food (particularly the bacon sandwich!) and great coffee. Love sitting here looking out at the sea and watching the world go by - with such friendly staff.

It's nearly three years since I reviewed Hughie's and I've visited many time in that time. It never disappoints; always friendly, always good. Simply sitting by the sea enjoying Tea or coffee, a cake or sandwich. I love it even more now than I did then.

Delicious cakes which tasted homemade and very light. Gorgeous view of the beach with good coffee. There was a misunderstand with our order so we waited a while and the owner was very kind and refunded us. Would recommend for afternoon tea.

Lovely location looking out to sea-just under the De La Warr. Great food...the scone was delightful. Hot chocolate was chocolately, not watery. Really appreciated the blankets. Service quick and with a smile. Definitely returning.

We have visited Hughie's a few times now taking our Mother who has Ovarian Cancer. The owner would always give blankets so my Mum would keep warm. Lately my Mum had not been able to go and we bumped into the owner. Who asked how Mum was. We were gobsmacked that a few days after a coffee and walnut cake ( my Mum's favourite ) was delivered at her door.

Honestly, I don’t know what Paradise looks like, but if I had to guess that would be Hughies.

The coffee is really good italian coffee well prepared and the cakes and snacks are very good too, particularly the ginger cake.

In an ideal spot on the prom, Hughes is a popular coffee stop, with cakes, bacon butties and more on offer. When I am trying to not eat cakes, Hughies has packets of biscuits - rare these days, but most welcome. With friendly service it is a lovely place for looking at the sea and watching the world go by.

Small cafe situated on the Promenade close to the de la Warr Pavilion. Outside seating but sheltered from the rain. Lovely setting on a fine winter’s afternoon looking out to sea.

I am an RNLI lifeguard, Worked on bexhill beach throughout summer, and couldn't avoid visiting Hughies cafe for lunch everyday (literally)! first, the view of the sea is amazing; warm blankets when siting down to eat at the cafe, serves tasty food and offers great friendly customer service! would highly recommend for anyone who wants to have a tea/coffee; lunch or snack. Enjoy in the friendliest cafe ever.

Nos encanta este café. Está justo en el mar, espectaculares vistas al mar, especialmente cuando es peligroso y en invierno tienes una alfombra para sus rodillas. El té es muy buena relación calidad-precio, así como la comida. El jengibre tarta es increíble y así son...

Buen servicio, buen lugar para sentarse y ver pasar el mundo. El pastel es el casero, el café es bueno. Es un poco blowy y abierto a los elementos, pero bueno en un día agradable.
