Old man disappointed 😞 that more and more establishments are refusing to take the most liquid of payments. Cash is, and always will be, king (as far as I'm concerned).

Stayed in Cheltenham for a night so visited John Lewis for breakfast. Made our way to, what we thought, was the JL cafe where we ordered breakfast. Very nice it was but a bit expensive we thought. Went for a wander around the store and discovered another cafe situated at the back!!! It seemed liked the same breakfast menu and the items that we had were half price at this cafe. Felt totally ripped off! Why two cafes on the same floor?? same menu, different prices!! 🫤

I’m bougie, I don’t mind paying for a good coffee and cake, but this was extremely overpriced for what it was - even by Cheltenham standards! Very strange scones that had a doughy, bread like texture, never had a scone like it in my life! Service was great, shame about the food and price!

This is a lovely to look at space - all pink and sparkly! The staff were friendly and helpful, and overall, the ambience was great. I was there with my 85 year old Mum and 16 year old daughter for a Mother's Day treat. I have to say - I was a little disappointed. Mum ordered a Coronation Chicken Sandwich - which cost a whopping £10.50. Now, for that price, I'd expect to see a bit of salad garnish at the very least - but no - just a sandwich on a plate. No frills, nothing fancy at all - which for the fancy price, I thought was a huge let-down. I ordered the Stow afternoon tea for £21.95. This came with the same Coronation Chicken that Mum had ordered, along with a nice scone with a very small pot of clotted cream and the ubiquitous mini pot of jam. I ordered the Bee Sting cake - which unfortunately I found far too sweet and sickly - but my fault for ordering it! My daughter ordered a jacket potato with beans and cheese, which was £11.95, and did come with a small "leaf garnish". All of the food was fine - nothing spectacular though. The one redeeming item was the chocolate milkshake my daughter ordered - holy smoke, it tasted like molten Hagen Daz belgian chocolate ice cream. We ordered two - but the first one was basically half a glass of squirty cream. The second one we asked for no cream, and received a glass-full of this heavenly chocolate delight! Top marks for that one - though they are an eye-watering £7.50 each - for which you could of course buy 1.5L of Hagen Daz Belgian Chocolate Ice-cream! Overall, I wish I hadn't bothered. Nearly £70 spent for nothing special. I'd opt next time to go somewhere like Squires Garden Centre café, where a similar meal would have cost closer to £30.

I just read a reviewer complaining that her dog was not allowed to sit at the table. Good - well done. I like Huffkins but the coffee is undrinkable. I have Americano in a small cup and it strips the enamel off my teeth. Perhaps this is why everyone has frothy milk with a dash of coffee. If they can do good coffee in any backstreet cafe in Spain for £1.50, why not here?!

I went into the Cafe today with my small dog, as it has recently been advertised as a dog friendly Cafe. After waiting and being shown to an empty table, I took a seat and put her on my lap, as I normally do (particularly when the floor is dirty, as it was the case, I’d rather she doesn’t lay down on dirt). To my surprise (and that of the 4 people sitting on both sides of my table), I was told by a male waiter that I had to put her on the floor. No room for reasoning, he insisted that due to past customer complaints (none of those present at the time) dogs could not be “at table height” … I thought it was ridiculous (I know I am biased as like many dog owners, I love my small fluffy fiend). So I had no choice but to cancel my order and leave (my table neighbours on both sides equally shocked by the lack of flexibility on the part of the waiter, when my dog was going to sleep on my lap without causing anything other than admiration by those present). So be aware that it is a dog “friendly” Cafe with rigid rules and if you happen to have a tall dog, who doesn’t want to lay down on a dirty floor, you’ll probably be asked to leave as he/she won’t be allowed to be at “table height”. Needless to say we won’t be going back …

When we arrived we were pointed out a table and sat down at 4:20pm. At 4:32pm we were then told to order at the counter. We went up to order the food and got told the kitchen closed at 4:30pm - I explained how we arrived at 4:20 and wasn’t told to go up to order, outrageous. Reluctantly we had to settle for a scone that they said they could heat up (it came out cold), and didn’t seem that apologetic. Won’t be making another trip here for a while. Leaving very hungry.

Always appreciated the friendly & efficient service from the loyal members of staff but just recently standards from others have slipped which combined with the expensive menu is a real shame . £17.25 for two teas and an eclair & lemon drizzle just too much . I appreciate underlying trading costs have to be passed on but there is a limit to how much one is willing to pays .

Not the cheapest but we occasionally visit as it 'feels' like a treat. Coffees £3 odd each; almond croissant, £4.95! Blimey, at that price, can only afford one between us. The coffee and croissant were very nice tbh, can't complain there. Ordering via our phone at the table is a bit complicated but got there in the end. I'd rather have waitress service tbh. My bug-bear though: what on earth is a dog doing, being allowed to sit on the sofa cushions? It's one thing them being allowed in a restaurant (why?) but on the furniture?? This to me is totally unacceptable. Of course, no mention of it from the staff. And of course, dog hairs left on the sofa fabric after the customers left. Disgusting!! I don't think I'll be returning again in a hurry. PLEASE re-think your policies and train your staff in matters of assertiveness.

Huffkins is situated on the 1st floor of John Lewis and appears to be a popular breakfast spot. The ambiance is charming, reflecting an English-style cafe with tasteful interiors. However, the menu options are somewhat limited. I opted for pancakes, which were fairly basic but came with a premium price tag. The apple juice was delightful, and the chocolate twist bun was a highlight. Pricing overall leans toward the higher end. As for service, it fell short of expectations—the estimated wait time for food was not accurate, causing a longer than anticipated wait. In summary, while Huffkins offers a delightful setting and some tasty options, it has room for improvement in terms of menu variety, pricing, and service.

This café is "in-between". It is a bit up-market in that you wait to be shown a table and be seated, like in better restaurants. But there is no other service at the table, so you go to the counter like in any other café to order and pay for the food. We had an early simple brunch which was nicely served. This is a good option for a pit-stop when shopping at this enormous John Lewis store.

My food was really tasty and will definitely have it again when we next visit. The service was really fast, and the decor was really pretty especially as I wanted to go to a tea room but went shopping instead so this was a treat to sit in this tea room. I bought a box of earl grey tea from the in cafe shop, and was very pleased to hear that everyone who dines in the cafe, gets a 10 percent discount so that made me really pleased. Really, really disappointed with our recent visit to Huffkins. There were plenty of available tables (we. now know why!) and on arrival, we were quickly seated (it was a Friday lunchtime). There was no table service; with orders taken at the counter or via the app. We app-ed it. Service was quick but the quality and value of our food and drinks was pretty poor. A jacket potato and Bantam burger (chicken burger) were £10.50 and £13.95 respectively. A pot of English Breakfast tea - £3.60 per person! When we sat down, having seen the prices, we did discuss leaving and going elsewhere, but thought we’d stay - in the expectation that the quality of the offering would match the high-end prices….The food was incredibly mediocre. The burger bun had a rather squashed /smashed look, was served with about ten small rustic crisps (which looked anything but rustic, just basic crisps) and the tiniest sprig of salad leaf on the side. Not sure why, at this price, chips/fries weren’t offered as the accompaniment (they used to be). The jacket came with butter inside (which was an option we deliberately didn’t selected in the app when ordering), the same teeny tiny sprig of salad leaf on the side and a very average looking/tasting potato and filling. Felt very duped by the whole experience and will not be returning anytime soon. Instead, will head to John Lewis’s ‘Place to Eat’ or to the M&S cafe for the same/better quality offering at half the price. Such a shame, Huffkins. Could, and previously used to, do so much better.

Firstly, whilst my wife and I appreciate that prices have soared due to the current economic situation, it was a complete shock when we stopped for a coffee in Huffkin's @ John Lewis, Cheltenham this week. The price of an Americano and ginger bread latte and two slices of carrot cake came to £18.05 (we had both asked for a spiced latte but sadly they had ran out of stock) We frequently go for a coffee and cake and the total price is usually around £10-£12, I work for a company that supplies the hospitality industry, we sell this very product in a box of 18 slices for around £25, that works out to around £1.38-£1.40 per slice, you charge over £5 per slice! Huffkins I have to say this experience was over priced, mediocre and not worth the amount paid. Not at all the experience we'd had previously in an actual Huffkin's tea room. Also, in a world where we are all watching our weight, why is your website or menu scant of calorie info? Sorry, but we won't be repeating the experience at this branch.

Fantastic cafe at the heart of the best store in Cheltenham. The food was incredible, you have to try a cake or bake! The staff were extremely polite, friendly and made the visit. The atmosphere was calm and subtle. If you’re in the area this is a must visit for sure.

We went to the little Huffkins cafe a little further down from John Lewis. The afternoon tea was nice, we did have to ask for things like sugar/sweeteners for the table as they weren't automatically brought over. There were 6 of us and we did have to do some cake negotiations as a lot of the cakes on the 3 afternoon tea stands we had were different. Not much savory in the afternoon tea, just the finger sandwiches (also, they give you 9 on each stand which led to further negotiations between 2 sharing).

Considering the challenging situation that cafés like Huffkins have found themselves in recently the business and the team in the cafe seem to have adapted to the new world pretty well. The menu is dramatically reduced compared to previous offerings and there have been some necessary adaptations needed to both the table arrangements and the way things are served to you. Despite this, the food remains delicious (I recommend the new ham and cheese croissant with spicy tomato and onion chutney in particular), the team are always helpful and welcoming, and it remains a great place to stop, rest your weary legs, and relax with a cuppa.

First café we found on the first floor hadn't realised there were other cafés. This is a waitress serviced café and prices a bit more expensive than normal. Friendly staff was very busy only had a drink. Toilets at centre of store nearer other café.
