Hub Box Portsmouth in Portsmouth

No longer my favourite restaurant! This place used to be my go to place in Portsmouth for food, however it seems to have changed. The atmosphere and service is still great but the food portions are now smaller and do not taste as good (less flavour and the burger was a bit crispy around the edges). Even the plates served on are different which makes the meal feel cheaper than it used to.That being said, I did eat it and dietary requirements were no problem.

We popped in here on a Friday for lunch. The service was very quick and attentive, the staff were great. The food was very good value, and filling. If you are looking for a good value lunch which includes a lunch check this place out. The only thing that could improve it would be more sauce in the chicken burger. The chicken was a little dry.

By far the best place to eat, and we will be back in October, there was a party in my mouth with every bite absolutely stunning

I did order Cesar salad but it was not really Cesar salad. I do not recommend it. Hamburger was good and staff was so busyvto get your order.

We opted for takeaway being close to the ferry port and advertising gluten free food. My wife and youngest are both coeliac and we confirmed several times throughout the order of the gluten free requirements. Food arrived and was delicious no doubt but since eating both my wife and youngest have been violently ill. Would not recommend for anyone with coeliac.

Had a meal here on August 12th, the service was good and the young lad was very nice. Kids had some orion shakes which were a tad on the small side. The let down for us was the amount of mustard that was put in our burgers, it was so overpowering that it just tasted sickly. We did let the waiter know but that didn't change the price at the end.. meal came to £59 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Blue light card helped knock £5 off and we didn't pay the service charge (we are not American lol) so it came to £53 in the end...

The food at Hub Box was great, and the service was excellent. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant!

My husband & I visited on Saturday 3rd August I had buttermilk chicken burger & the chicken was over cooked & burnt I did say something but waitress couldn't be bothered

Had lunch with a friend and we both had the big fish burger, we shared sweet potato fries. The fish was beautiful, meaty and a really good size. We shared the fries as the portion sizes are generous here. The restaurant interior is lovely and has a really nice atmosphere. My hubby and I are firm Hubbox followers and we know we'll be back.

Previously visited Hub Box in Dorchester which was delicious. First time in Portsmouth, the chicken burger was horrible, tough tasteless chicken… the side of Mac n cheese was barely luke warm same as my partners dirty fries. He said his burger was ok and the milkshake nice. I left most of my food which for me is unheard of, really disappointed.

Move over Five Guys, I have a new favourite burger place I’m on holiday so I treated myself - the BIG KAHUNA BURGER (2xpatties, BBQ pulled pork, montaray jack cheese, BBQ sauce, mayo, lettuce) served with waffle fries and a banana HBX shake Theres no ‘polite’ way to eat a big buger like this, dive in and come up for air occasionally! Absolutly delicious

Had a Nacho Libre burger and chips here. The burger was okay, very dry though. The service was good, team members were very proactive whilst engaging with you and gave the best service. For the price and taste I would always prefer nandos which is a much better deal in taste and money. 5 ⭐ to staff members though! And the service.

It's a lovely place where you can get a quick bite to eat. I was here with my friend, we both had a burger and both loved it. I will definitely be coming back. They have a set lunch menu £9.99 perfect and very filling.

Mixed feelings on my trip here , the burger was honestly the best burger I’ve ever eaten in my life however I found that the sides were sub par, unfortunately the Mac and cheese was cold when it arrived. We also had an hour wait for the food however I can understand this due to how busy it was.

Since discovering Hubbox in Gunwharf I've been between 15 and 20 times and brought all different friend groups. Never had a bad meal.... until tonight. Burgers were sill really good and I can highly recommend the Hub OG. They are pricey waying in at £12-14 but the taste is really good. The big let down is the Dirty Fries - Mother Clucker fries which used to look amazing and be really good quality and presentation. Last night the bowl had shrunk from an oblong shape to a round bowl with about half the amount of chicken, no chillies and looked like someone had lobbed some fires in a bowl and squirted mayo on top. I mentioned this to the member of staff who served us and he said that they had a new director of food and he'd come in and changed some of the recipes. To us as regular customers it looks like cost cutting. The fries themselves had changed from a brand that tasted special to the kind you'd cook at home from the supermarket. We used to get two portions per three adults and barely finish them as they were so big. The onion rings used to be really tasty and could be enjoyed by myself as they were gluten free. This time there was so much grease on the batter and on the plate they tasted horrible. We usually had a dessert at Hubbox but they have played around with them menu and removed a number of the items we used to love like the Hub Tubs. Last month we had the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake and it tasted amazing - I instantly wanted another. This time it had no flavour, tasted soggy and I could easily have left the rest. This review is not written in anger but in sadness as my favourite restaurant in Gunwharf is somewhere me and my friends are unlikely to go back to for several months if ever. With the high prices and low quality I'd be surprised if this venue didn't close within 6 months.

First time visit to Hub Box (Portsmouth) last night - absolutely banging. Great welcome from friendly staff. Nice environment overlooking Portsmouth Harbour. Great service, knowledgeable, polite and was able to offer recommendations. Drinks and food came quickly (hot and fresh). Delicious meal, burger, hot dog, sides. Highly recommended. We'll be back. Good value too.

We entered hubbox with 10 of us coming out for some dinner. We was took to our table right next to the open kitchen. When we was ordering food and ordering drinks the staffs manners where awful. No please or thank you! Then when we finally got our food the whole food order was wrong. Our food was sat under the hot counter for 5 minutes with the staff of the restaurant doing nothing other than stand there and look like they are away with the fairy’s, The staff was rude and didn’t care that our food was wrong. The staff have no customer service quality’s. It’s a disgrace

Favourite place to eat EVER!!! Me and my partner love this place and have been multiple times!! Thoroughly enjoy all the food and always leave so happy. Service is incredible and recommend to anyone!! The chicken strips are the best and the grapefruit margaritas!

I have eaten at Hub a number of times since 2019, mostly in the Portsmouth restaurant. Usually I can't rate this place high enough to friends and family. Food is amazing. I always have the Mother Klucker fries as they are my absolute favourite. I was slightly disappointed with my recent visit. I ordered the same food as I had when I visited in Dec. The mac and cheese was delicious and the chicken tenders were really tasty and juciy and quite big, which was great as I love chicken. This time the dishes were a lot smaller than what I've usually had in the past and still was charged the same price. The fries were served in a much smaller dish and the potion size was smaller. In the past there is usually a lot more fries and buttermilk chicken. The hot buffalo sauce was very mild. The first picture was my meal in December. The fries are clearly in a larger dish than the other picture. The mac and cheese was also different this time. Melted cheese was sitting on top of pasta. The customer service was excellent as always.

the garlic and parmesan fries are the most delectable fries i’ve ever eaten in my life. ordered the chicken burger with cheese and garlic mayo in replacement to burger sauce and oh my god i bit into it and almost passed away from joy 😁😁😁😁 excellent service too and food came super quickly

Not a lover of burgers normally but my visit here changed that ! Delicious !!! Shame that we had to find someone to order drinks and then ask again to order, staff happy to huddle in groups and chat.

Was visiting the area and came across this place whilst looking for a burger fix. The burger was exceptional and the hot totties were great, a very nice alternative to standard fries. The only slight let down was the chicken wings; not packing too much flavour and seemed to have soaked up too much oil. But in terms of the burger and other sides, 3 of us eating and we all loved the burgers and other sides. Would definitely go back again. Attentive staff, good location, nice decor. A great find.

We ate at the restaurant today and for the price we paid I expected way better food. We ordered chips, chicken tenders and wings. Tenders were so oily, the oil was literally dripping and I had to soak it in tissue before eating and still didn’t help. There was not much taste to it either, all I could taste was oil. The chicken wings came very undercooked and were quite oily too. I was really disappointed for the price I paid. Raspberry lemonade was really tasty though and the chips were nice too. Also I have to say that customer service was great.

It's tucked away round the corner but therefore quieter, and the food is as good as any of the other venues, if you're in the mood for a burger

Great place to eat, prices are competitive. Drinks in the high side but for a relaxed night out with great service this place is perfect. Staff were really friendly and there when u needed them.

First time here, and I was very disappointed. The food was very poor quality. For the prices they charge, I would have expected the food to be a lot better quality. The food was burnt and not seasoned. The chilli that they put on their 'dirty fries' is basic and straight from a packet, then just basic cheese on top. The milkshakes are £8.95!! And are not even made with ice cream. They are power milkshakes and terrible taste. There were only 4 of us, but the waiter tried his luck by saying there were 6 covers so that he could add on a 10% service charge. I would highly advise not to go here. Very poor and seriously overpriced.

We stopped by for breakfast as there were not too many other breakfast options in Gunwharf Quays. The restaurant was empty. Food was ok but rather small portions. Coffee not very hot.

While the service was great and the staff were attentive the food let the place down. They brought it out but never did a check back. The temperature of the food wasn’t great, when having loaded fries I know some sauces are cold but I would expect the cheese sauce and chilli to be hot. This was not what I found it was lukewarm to be honest so very disappointing. Not sure a probe was used to make sure the core temperature hit food hygiene guidelines!!

Overall a lovely place with excellent service and atmosphere. Food prices are through the roof however. Very overpriced for what you get on your plate. Burger, dirty chips, onion rings, latte, bottle of coke, pint of coke £58. Recommended if money is no object.

Our first visit. The place was very busy but they found us a table after a minutes wait . I have a small appetite and went for the hot dog it was the best Hotdog ever! Beautifully cooked and served with the perfect combination of crispy dried onions and fresh onions- along with proper mustard and ketchup!! I also had a rum cocktail which really hit the spot! My OH had a burger n fries and equally that was awesome too!! Having never been here before , we’d certainly look them up again and hopefully will be back soon!!!

Food was amazing definitely recommend the chicken tenders best I have ever had crunchy & succulent. staff were fab and so friendly will definitely be going back.

We attempted to eat here today although we were put off by the very rude staff/manager. He made passive aggressive comments towards us as we did not have a reservation but were happy to sit outside and he proceeded to tell us that he was ‘not dressed for the weather to serve us outside’ which made us wonder why the tables were put outside in the first place! He ultimately had an awful attitude and we will not attempt to eat here again. Most likely was discriminatory and very disappointed!

Host / Server (male) was very hostile and extremely rude towards my friends and I. We went in and we’re told their was no available seats, which is fine as we didn’t book we asked to sit outside and he refused to serve us outside as he “was not dressed for the weather”. To me this whole interaction was nothing but derogatory. We then sat outside in the cold with no cutlery. nothing. no cleaned table nothing. he told us to order online as he was not going to come out. A couple then came in after us and we’re immediately sat, we questioned that and he interrupted our conversation and yelled saying they made a reservation then stormed off. I have never been so disrespected in my entire life and this is matter of firing him. We just wanted to eat on a somewhat nice day and instead we’re faced with this. so upset. do better.

Great lunch deal for undrer £10. Best fries I've had in a while. Quick and friendly service and nice atmosphere. Only complaint is the coke tasted tasted a little flat, possibly offbrand. Will be definitely be coming back.

3 adults 1 child, I have coeliac and upon notifying staff, I was informed of what I could/couldn’t have, how it was prepared and cooked. Staff had good knowledge of the menu and process. I had GF buttermilk chicken burger in GF bun which was lovely! Finally nice to have had crispy chicken! Meals are pricey and with the surcharge on top of £7 , this would be the only thing putting me off returning. Overall lovely restaurant, lovely staff ,lovely food.

The first time here food was very good would recommend going to friends he likes different kind of burgers

I can broadly summarise the food with one word: "Greasy". And when I say greasy, I don't mean tasty grease either, all just very oily. Also, had some chicken wings that came out undercooked and were still very pink below the surface and even running with blood. Worse than the undercooked chicken was the response from the waitress of "that's how our chicken comes". Yes, chicken does come raw, a bit pink and sometimes with blood in it. The idea is that you're meant to cook it thoroughly so that it isn't pink and juices run clear. Thankfully didn't get food poisoning, but as a meal-out experience it was a disappointment.

Went there with my Son. Notice that food quality has dramatically changed to worse over the years. Ordered Beef and Chicken burgers and added bacon. Seems like bacon was cooked last month and served without been reheated. Chicken burger had an off taste. Unfortunately I’ll NEVER Ever visit HUBbox.

Great burgers though quite pricey. Terrible chips… either the oil hasn’t been changed in a long time or the chips have been left and reheated more than once. When asked how the food was and I mentioned the poor quality of the chips, the waiter mumbled sorry and took away the half eaten portion and that was that.

Visiting Hubbox has become a near weekly experience. Just had the Lunch deal, a seriously banging chicken nurger, proper fries, washed down with a pukka ginger-beer. All for £9.95. Unbeatable! We were served by Sean, a most delightful and engaging chap. Recommended!!

Visited this place on the 4th December and will be coming back. Was served by Lee who was very welcoming and efficient. The food was amazing. The burgers were extremely tasty, skin on fries were amazing and you won’t get better halloumi fries anywhere else!

Always a treat! The hotdogs are my go to but the burgers are great too. I’m a “buddy” for a chap who adores Hubbox. Observing how the place is run it’s clear to see why. Sean runs a tight yet joyous ship. Very much recommended!:)

Table of 8, busy Saturday evening with a reservation We received a friendly welcome and were told about the drinks offers. Drinks order was fairly quick. Food was a short wait and came out with a few issues which were immediately rectified. The food was good, plentiful, although quite pricey for what it is. Wait staff were attentive and friendly throughout, despite how busy it was. One or two issues with the bill, again rectified immediately. Overall, a good experience.

Food and staff great on our visit, served by Hannah and she was excellent. Bar staff helpful on guest beers. All good! Burgers and onion rings great, Mac n cheese and fries ok.

The Cornribs are fantastic. If they are on the menu order them, if they are not on the main menu ask if they are a daily special menu.

If I knew the patty was going to be very thin and dry, I would have gone to the Burger King downstairs for better value. Chips were ordered separately and quality was nice. The service is average at best but the overall atmosphere is quite nice. Shame it was raining at the time or else you can have a sea view while eating.

A great experience from the start for our Friday night dinner. We were greeted and immediately asked about allergens. Sean took us through the menu in detail, explaining only a couple of things that we couldn't have and how other dishes were either already gluten free or could be made so with just a switch to the bun. All of this Sean marked up for us on the menu which was a great touch. Sides were available to us and even the much loved onion rings. The food was fantastic and we were able to have a gluten free beer too Great food and excellent service, we will be back

Personal favourite place to go, amazing atmosphere and the best staff honestly, go above and beyond to make your dining special. Never once had an issue with food, but it’s hard to pick on something so good. Will definitely fill you up! I recommend anything on the menu as it’s all the best. :)) ps drinks are also tasty

The service was fantastic. The young blond lady and young guy with glasses, really went out their way to make sure we were having a nice time and we were. The food was delicious. We ordered way too much but it was delicious. The milkshakes were proper milkshakes and ten out of ten. I've never heard of Hub Box before but I will most definitely be back.

Got in touch direct to book a group of 11 for a stag do for a Saturday early evening, no problems accommodating, just a request to pre order the main courses (for 48 hours in advance) Plenty of choice of food, and no issues with substitutions/ changes, Service was friendly, and prompt. The Food (we had a variety, was all well received, tasty and filling. I had the Boston fries (substituted sweet potato) which were very tasty, with a side of chicken tenders (again very tasty, crunchy coating, tender inside) and Carolina slaw (this had just a bit too much kick for my liking- but was probably okay for most).

We've been to this restaurant many times due to the food, but also the great staff, which is why this trip fell so far below what we had come to expect from Hubbox. We were running late, so called over an hour before to change the booking but when we arrived, we were told they'd given our table away as we were 'so late'. They told us our booking had been altered on the computer, but the website says you have a 15 minute time period in which to arrive. I tried to explain this to the member of staff who greeted us on the door, but he rudely argued with me when I pointed out we were only 5 minutes late by interrupting me and saying, '10 minutes actually'. If we're being really picky, I'd say we were around 8 minutes late according to my phone, but well within the 15 minute limit. I gave feedback after our dinner, as I often do, but was really disappointed with the response. From the reply email: We're sorry if the door host came across rude as you can probably understand it is a stressful position to be in with a fully booked restaurants and tables turning up late! Why have a policy that they will hold the table for 15 minutes if actually they get cross when you arrive late? Most businesses will acknowledge when customer service falls short of expectations and look for opportunities to improve. Seemingly not Hubbox, who simply blame rudeness on the customer. So disappointed with our visit and the response from the company.

Have managed to come twice in as many weeks. For a date night and family dinner with the sister-in-law's, it was great for both. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. The food is great so far my favourite has been the Korean chicken burger and the pulled pork dirty fries. I can't wait to try some more options in the future. I may have to wait a while though as I always end up with more food than I bargain for. The drinks menu is also varied with options for everyone. Edit: I returned today and had the same great service but this time I had the double patty Big Kahuna and shared the Boston Fries both were great!

Ate here and had a Classic USA and an All Star, both of which were less than average, considering this is a burger restaurant. They make bold claims that they "SELECT PRIME CUTS FROM TRADITIONALLY-FARMED GRASS-FED CATTLE ARE 21-DAY DRY-AGED TO DELIVER A DEEPER, JUICIER, TASTIER BURGER". In the case of our food I think someone forgot to read the memo. The meat in both burgers was dry, crumbly and tasteless. The 'hub sauce' on the USA was a bland, runny mayo like substance and the All Star was just covered in, and tasted only of, mustard. The buns weren't even toasted and arrived cold and the pickles (ordered extra for the USA) may as well have been non-existant for all they added. For the price of the burgers I would have expected some semblance of a decent burger but unfortunately they fail to reach even the level of a run of the mill drive through chain. There are, by far, better places in Portsmouth to go if you would like a decent burger and you definitely wouldn't have to spend £30 odd for two. Do your palette and your card a favour and go elsewhere.

Hubbox... Oh boy - I really dont know what to say... Brother and me attended for a late lunch today. Struggling to decide where to go - We went here. And I'm glad we did... The food was great. The Bacon Double Cheeseburgers were cooked excellently and tasted awesome. Price was also reasonable. Mac & Cheese / Buttermilk Chicken Fries portion sizes were excellent for sharing. Between 2 people we spent £65 which included 2 x Double Patty Bacon Cheeseburgers, 5 drinks, Mac & Cheese & Buttermilk Chicken Fries. They ask if you have any allergies when ordering which is pretty normal, but they asked a few times just to be sure. We also got talking to one of the members of staff who really explained why he enjoys working there... It shows! It was quiet for the time and the music wasnt loud at all. Overall very good visit and will be going again..

Lovely atmosphere, very busy for a Monday lunch time so can tell it’s popular. Staff were attentive but not overly so. Food was tasty, however very small for the price and was confusing. We ordered the Dirty Disco Chicken Burger and the Notorious R.I.B, we expected the ribs to be a rack rather than a tiny sandwich and for the price it was small. The pork was cooked lovely, chicken lacked flavour and the truffle chips were good, a tad over cooked. Overall a good experience thanks to the staff as they all wished us a good day and said goodbye as we were leaving, which is a good touch.
