Howard's Kitchen in Canterbury

Visited here on a Friday Morning as I was working outside, looks kind of a quirky place to have a cafe within, however do not let that put you off I had the full breakfast and it’s probably the best breakfast I’ve had this year by a country mile £12.50 and that’s with a tea not overly massive but it’s delicious none of that deep fried rubbish like other cafes do. Plenty of seating inside and out the back part also there is an upstairs, it’s like a tardis there. The two ladies were very polite and friendly. Its just situated down from the bakery on the high street definitely worth a visit if your in the area. Wheelchair accessible is a no go in my opinion however each to their own. There’s a car park opposite but apparently it’s expensive.

Very enjoyable meal. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The carpark over the road is very convenient. Free disabled parking.

If you are visiting with a dog, you need to know that dogs are allowed in the conservatory and upstairs not in the cafe area. There is nothing to let you know this except an uncomfortable conversation when my 92 year old mum and me were almost through our coffee and cake and had been there over half an hour. We had tried to go into the conservatory but had made way for a wheelchair user. So the conversation was a surprise and awkward. The quality of coffee and cake weren't worth the embarrassment or the price. We won't be returning.

We didnt get to eat here It was a hot day and we had our dog. We asked if he could come in and we were advised he was only allowered in the covered part out the back. That was fine. When we entered it was so much more muggier and hot than outside that we could not stay. It was very stuffy even though they jad a fan on and tables needed clearing too. Not wanting to be rude, i said it was too hot for for the dog. So we left, only to hear her state in a very patronising voice that it would be hot everywhere. Well it was much cooler just leaving and outside. I am glad we did not give someone so rude our money. Being professional would help your business.

Great, no fuss food. We went for breakfast and loved it. Friendly staff, fresh and tasty food and classic menu. Highlight was the omelette.

High quality ingredients well cooked

Fresh food cooked as good as at home. But no washing up, or kitchen prep! Beef stew and dumplings was loaded with tender steak. Portions felt generous. Came with good selection of veg. Would recommend, and will be back! 😀👍

Popped in for Lunch totally delightfull, Husband had Chicken Mustard pie,he couldn't fault it,brimmed full with chicken great pastry and plenty of fresh veggies I had Lasagna and their salad very tasty and very different from usual salads you get...a through joy ... can't wait to visit again

We only had a quick cuppa here so can't comment on food..but it looked good from what we could see. Friendly staff and very pleasant sitting in the conservatory.

Had a really great quiche which had a homemade quality. Pastry really light and filling full of vegetables. Tried several cakes all great and not overly sweet. If you come with a dog they may recya treat as well.

Beautiful, healthy homemade food. Dogs welcome out the back which is sheltered.

Great place just off main high street. Breakfast and scrambled eggs were brilliant. Lovely thick toast, plenty of butter. Service quick and with a smile.

Don't be fooled by the modesty of this place! The service, food and drink is as good or better than anywhere on the high street.

This cafe serves reasonable food at reasonable prices, for Whitstable, some home made which is very nice. I advise anyone that feels the cold to be very wary about going here in Winter however. The place is cool to freezing. The upstairs ‘overflow’ room has a single bar halogen heater which is pretty ineffective & even downstairs is no more than adequately heated. The place is fine in summer, service is ok but the servers are on the brusque side of polite. You pays your money…..,,,,,,,

Visited today for lunch after finding the cafe down a side street. Lovely selection of home cooked pies and food. I had steak and mushroom pie, veg, mash and gravy. The pie was microwaved to warm it but the pastry was still crisp. It was filled with steak and very tasty. My friend had cottage pie and veg. Both were absolutely delicious. We also had cake which was warmed and served with cream and was also lovely. Service was great, chatty and polite and we weren’t rushed. It was lovely to have home cooked food and I’ll definitely visit again!

This, is a great place. Tucked away off the High Street, conveniently situated near a car park, Howard’s Kitchen offers really tasty, home-cooked interesting food. Our vegetable tortillas were served with a range of extras, including potato salad. beans, etc and food was served with a smile. The homemade cakes looked delicious and I’ll certainly give those a whirl on another occasion! Howard’s Kitchen is different from the run of the mill cafe and is deservedly popular being busy on a Wednesday afternoon.

We’d just parked and after a longish drive, just fancied a coffee and cake. We saw the sign in the High Street saying Scratch Cafe: which didn’t bode too well. Nevertheless, we looked in and it seemed fine. It was far more than fine: scratch - all the cakes are home made, made from scratch! No pre mixed and chuck in the oven here! Our cakes, strawberry for him, blueberry for me, were delicious. The coffees were good and strong. The only mistake we made was that we didn’t order lunch. Looking at the ones being served to the other guests whetted our appetite and we will definitely visit again!

Some really top notch home cooked food. Excellent flavours in both the cake and Spanish omelette I had. Will be my lunch place of choice in Whitstable from now on!

Delicious, fresh home made food in a cosy cafe. The perfect breakfast / lunch spot. Plenty of veggie options (as well as loads of meaty).

1st time being in the area with my girlfriend and had the best breakfast with hot chocolate deluxe, I definitely would recommend this place to go 👍🏼😃

I walked down the main street in Whitstable poking my nose in all the windows of the many cafes looking for somewhere to eat. I chose this one, off a side street, and it turned out a good choice. At first I was discouraged by it being empty and by the poor tea they brought, which tasted as if it hadn't been made with fresh, freshly boiled water. But the lasagne and salad they served me was terrific. The tasty slice of lasagne was clearly home made and baked, not just some microwaved catering buy in. The attractive salad was also fresh made, and included beans, leaves, and couscous. Probably my favourite salad of the summer. Quality was top notch and presumably did my digestion a lot of good. The day's offerings are listed on a board, old style. The menu is not huge, which is another sign they cook everything from scratch themselves. This is not one of those Jack of All Trades places--it's a proper cafe. Don't miss it.

Fantastic home style honest food made fresh from scratch, in a funky little out-of-the-way place just off the main drag.

Struggled to find a nice place to have breakfast with our dog in Whitstable- so this was heaven. Food was delicious. Service perfect and lovely friendly staff. Pointed out to us by a friendly homeless chap-we thankyou kind sir.

We were staying in Gladstone road and decided on a cooked breakfast after our host had recommended it. We sat in the bright and spacious covered area at the back and really enjoyed our English breakfast with tasty thick bacon.The toast was so good that Nick ordered another plate! A lovely place that cooks from scratch. As we left , the freshly cooked flans and other lunch items looked and smelt delicious!

We were here last year and came back since we loved the healthy and delicious food. You chose either one of the different quiches or the specialty of the day such as musaka, lasagne etc. and it comes with a variety of salad. The chocolate cake was a dream. We spent a nice time outside in the backyard.

Just of the High Street we stopped off at Howards Kitchen before setting off back home. Light bright and airy, and also dog-friendly, we took our ol' girl staffy in with us who may have found her way to sampling one of the sausages. Brunch was amazing, everything cooked and presented beautifully. Service again, was exemplary. A definite stop off if you are staying in Whitstable.

Brilliant find just off the high street. We shared 3 slices of cake, which were homemade and delicious especially the rhubarb cake. Accompanied by excellent coffees. Lovely staff, will definitely be back.

Have been to Howard's kitchen occasions good all cooked fresh breakfast better in warmer weather when you can sit outside in covered enclosure. Not much room inside. Would recommend

Been to Whitstable many times, but overlooked this place. I guess its because its not in the high street, and tucked along the side street. We sat in the sheltered area at the back. Lovely little place and awesome food. We had the Mint and Lamb pie with veg and my husband had the rhubarb cake : ) Very very nice : ) Definitely will head there next time we go on holiday there.

Sat opposite the display counter. Housing all the home made items. We had lemon tart and a rhubarb sponge . Wow wow stunning. Their coffee was perfect too. Will definitely be back for lunch next time. You will find Howard's off the main high Street....

We are spoilt for choice for cafes and restaurants but what makes Howard’s Kitchen stand out is the quality of the home made food. I had a delicious mushroom quiche served with a variety of salads. Super to have so many salads to choose from...

My sister and I visited this little gem tucked away on Gladstone Road, just off the High Street in Whitstable and had a lovely full English breakfast. A cosy cafe with tasty food and great service. Highly recommended. Thank you Howard’s Kitchen!

Just off the Main Street, this was a real find. A freshly cooked English breakfast for £8.95 with free range eggs and great bacon was a very nice break in our long walk. Friendly service and supporting a local business rather than a global corporate....

Really friendly staff & tasty home made food. We had a lovely home made tomato & basil quiche served with a nice selection of fresh salads, and a blueberry pie which was a little bit too yummy! Very dog friendly, Juno loved her sausage treat....

Went there Saturday 13th with my family.I had leek & potato soup,tasty.Others had fishcakes, they loved them.Staff lovely,polite,and all looked well run.Going back to visit my sister in two weeks so will be popping in to Howard's Kitchen again.well worth trying.

Don't miss this little gem which serves fantastic, freshly prepared, natural food. The lasagne that I had was the best I have ever had. And my wife said she enjoyed every mouthful of her mushroom quiche that was served with a marvelous mixture of wholefood...

Excellent customer service and wonderful cakes! I love the sheltered garden in the back. Such a nice atmosphere. We come here all the time for breakfast and are never disappointed. And they allow dogs which is very handy for us.

Their hanging sign creaks when it's windy it needs some oil I recommend wd40 or braun appliance oil.

Discovered this Howard‘s Kitchen by chance and not disappointed. Our food was fabulous, really delicious. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for great food and service.

Decent fry up, but could be better on COVID measures. Cash only (I can’t understand this in this day and age?). Staff not wearing masks and not enforcing customer mask use when entering and moving around. Hand sanitiser and NHS test and trace QR code...

Excellent cafe/restaurant just off the High Street with a courtyard area out the back with well separated tables. Menu is mainly based around the specials board, we all had the quiche with salad which was great!

Parked opposite this little cafe tucked away just off High St and went on a hunt on the main drag for good not so greasy cafe. Those found were either £££ or greasy spoon. Returned to starting point and so glad we did. Delightful airy courtyard, lovely waitress. Breakfast was really good and very reasonable. Tasty golden yoked eggs, very good quality bacon and sausages. Piping hot great flavour Cappuccinos lovely local apple juice. Recommend you give the High St a miss!!

Came here for the first time today and can't believe I haven't been there before. Such a lovely place. Amazing good, great menu options. All homemade. Very friendly staff and owners and extremely accommodating. Can't wait to go back!

This cafe were advertising the 50% eat out to help out. Clearly a con as when we queried the fact that they had charged us full price, they said they haven't sorted it out yet. How difficult is it to just halve the bill. Cash only so reckon they will still claim 50% back from the government. (5th August)

We visited twice during our stay. Once for lunch and again for breakfast. Both times the food was fantastic and cooked just as we asked for. Service was really good and even the dog was looked after. The cakes were amazing. So much so that we had to take some home with us. Lovely place. No fuss just lovely food and good service.

This place is just off the main road and is a hidden treasure. Greeted by a very friendly young lady. Good selection on the menu. We opted for the half breakfast , which was ample for us. Food is cooked to order and everything was very tasty. Washed down with a decent cup of tea , my idea of heaven! It was a very clean cafe and reasonably priced. Happy to recommend and will happily return.

Scrumptious food, wonderful quiches, lovely pies, everything home made! So tasty and nice portions, you can have mixed salads or vegetables with your meal, definitely to reccomend, the owners, Annika and Mark are such friendly people, we love it every time we go there. It's between Barclays bank and William Hill, try it x

Without doubt, the best chicken pie, quiche and salad I have ever had the pleasure to eat (on seperate occasions). Nice, basic surroundings and covered outside eating patio.

Smashing bacon and brie sarnie. Very filling. Happy service from waiting staff. Will pop in next time in Whitstable.

Owing to a broken wrist I could not prepare a buffet for 8 guests. Not wanting to cancel I asked Annika and Mark from Howard's kitchen to do the honours. They couldn't have been more helpful and obliging. And the buffet was super. Not sure I'll bother with cooking even when I'm able to. Top notch. Well done. Thank you

All homemade daily. Good value, outside space, friendly people and dogs are allowed.
