The Veg Box Cafe in Canterbury

Fantastic place to eat and drink, I'm a regular customer in here and I absolutely love it!

So pleased I found this vegetarian cafe (possibly vegan? but they do have cow's milk for coffee). I was on a short break in Canterbury and was very hungry after a disappointing hotel breakfast! There is a daily changing lunch menu offering a soup, a stew, a bake and a fritter, all served with various salads. There are also things like jacket potatoes and cakes on offer. I had lentil shepherd's pie and several salads, all of which were wonderful, especially a wild rice pesto salad and a chickpea one with tarragon. Really wish I'd had my evening meal there the previous day AND the full vegan breakfast that morning too. If only there were more places like this - healthy, tasty and plenty of choice. Oh, and very friendly staff and excellent 80s music playing in the background! Almost enough to persuade me to move to Canterbury!

We called in on a family trip to Canterbury. We were rather late for lunch and they had sold out of a couple of items but what we had was delicious and reasonably priced. I would recommend this restaurant. It is a great find and close to the Cathedral and centre of town.

I really like this place. Good food, portions and prices and nice venue. Amazing veggie cottage pie and millionaires shortbread and friendly staff.

We usually enjoy eating here and see it as a nice treat. However, today we had only one of the two breakfasts brought out after ordering two. When I asked about the other, they were short on one of the ingredients. We said we’d swap it for another item. Then, someone else came over and we were offered a different swap - which we accepted. The food was tasty and fresh but only just warm - the hash browns were cold. My turmeric latte, however, was perfect.

We stopped by for a cup of tea. Didn't eat. Good atmosphere but tourist prices. We were served a teabag with hot water in a small cup for £3.25. Probably the most expensive single cup of tea I've had in my life.

Great veggie cafe in the heart of Canterbury if you are feeling peckish and wants some snacks or a fully lunch (hot and cold options). Super healthy and affordable with good service and dog friendly, hence the 5 stars! Hope to be back again some day soon :)

I was pleasantly surprised to stumble on this excellent vegan restaurant. The staff was friendly and described what was available to me. The mushroom Wellington was excellent, and the roast vegetables were nicely accompanied by a mildly spicy sauce. So it is a five-star from me - which I give out rarely

Potato wedges weren't freshly made. I believe they pre cook and keep heating their food, taste could be better for the money spent.

One of the most friendly restaurants in town and by far the healthiest food you can find. Superb tasty meals, vegan and vegetarian and I'm neither but I go there as basically the food is delicious and super good for you too. I live on Canterbury and this place is well worth checking out.

Lovely service and amazing food

Lovely wholesome restaurant with a chilled, laid back, healthy vibe - they had lots of options to choose from. We went for soup and hot pot and was great. Very winters and warm dishes🫶

This used to be my haven in the city but I'll never go there again, after repeated rude service from different members of staff on different visits. There was a noticeable change around the time they opened an additional cafe in London. The food is tasty, locally sourced and healthy, so I'll be sad to miss it. But I just don't need the stress. Management should have a look at how staff are speaking to customers and consider reviewing the strange way orders are now taken and then served.

The food is as excellent as ever. Great choices, healthy options, tasty and well seasoned. It would be a 5 star review save for a hygiene issue. We went on a weekday lunch and although it wasn't that busy, staff seemed unable to cope. Some tables were being cleared but not cleaned. Our table had debris and despite asking 2 different members of staff no one returned to clean it.

Arrived for brunch, found a table, chose from the menu and went to queue to order inside. After 25mins waiting to order we have up and left. If it takes that long to order, how long will it take for food to arrive?

The food taste very nice and what I really like about this place that it have a lot of vegan options as compared to other branded chains. The staff is really helpful. Great atmosphere overall.

Great find! Delicious, local, organic, plant based food. The place was heaving! Really popular & great buzz. Service was friendly & so much variety of foods to choose from! I had the farinata with salad as you can see in the pic!

I had the Farinata with full salad, which was delicious. It was the perfect amount of food, healthy and varied. You get to choose 3 toppings from their fermented selection. Really good spot for a quick bite.

Lovely vegan cafe in the centre of Canterbury. Good selection of healthy veggie bowls and some naughtier treats, like the amazing berry, banana and maple syrup pancakes 🥞🫐 The staff are always friendly, and the atmosphere is very lively, especially on weekends.

Wouldn’t have sought out a veggie restaurant but had a recommendation from a Canterbury local. Stunning food, truly delicious. If you’re veggie, Gluten free or just hungry, this is the place. Very reasonable prices for such delicious fresh food.

I LOVE IT HERE! Me and my partner are 20 years old vegans and we drive an hour just to eat here some days! It’s super healthy and so packed with flavour. If you’re vegan or not and want a healthy and tasty lunch with lots of different options on one plate. This is for you. Dessert is unique and tasty too. Coffee is 5 star. Staff are beautiful too. IF YOURE THINKING ABOUT IT, JUST DO IT ❤️

Great place to sit outdoor in the heart of the pedestrian city centre. Great curry, variety of salads with/without fermented pickles, delicious gluten-free cake and perfect cappuccino. Definitely the place to go!

Delicious food and a great find! The food was great and satisfied the vegetarians as well as the meat eaters in our family. We tried all the specials - Sri Lankan curry, GF veg lasange, tomato soup and loaded jacket potatoes. Nice hearty lunch and a welcome break from sandwiches.

Love this place. I’ve been vegan for 3 years and counting and it makes me so happy when I see a place that really does vegetables justice and serves food that makes you feel so refreshed and healthy. Definitely give this a go- I had the mushroom wellington and it was incredible! Staff were very nice as well. They also do homemade kombucha but it was sold out- will be back to try!

I have been to Veg café several time alone and with friends. It always has a warm welcoming energy. The food is amazing and I love all the vegan cakes. My favourite is the coffee walnut, a must try!. I must visit when you are in Canterbury Town Novlyn Barreto
