Sadly (I don’t often complain) we had a very disappointing takeaway. Really tasteless mains and doughy Naan. Veg curry was mostly potato.

Amazing King Prawn Shashlik. Cooked to perfection, and enjoyed with mushroom rice and a Rotti. I couldn’t think of a nicer curry I’ve had recently. Thanks

my first time ordering. A guy also getting takeaway said it was very good. Hed been several times. I thought it was a nice sauce, complex taste, possibly on the vindaloo side of madras (ive had many over the years), but the sauce was just too salty tonight. definitely go back. Hope they get this note. King prawn had nice flavour.

We’ve had takeaways from here on several occasions.. more often since lockdown. Has been good in the past, but this week’s was very poor. Thin watery sauces, bland taste, lamb pieces like leather. On top of this they’ve increased prices. Unlikely to go there again.

Being suckers for punishment we gave it one last try. Big mistake, and until they get soomeone who can cook it really will be our last visit. Inedible tasteless mush, all the same whatever the name on the menu.

Three years after my last visit, and subsequent poor review that I posted to warn off others, I figured that as the business was still there they must have got their act together. Big mistake. Nothing has changed - they simply do not know how to prepare decent Indian food. But I think I have learned how they prepare lamb dishes, at least the one that I had. First take some plain lamb pieces and cook in the oven to the consistency of rubber. Then rub these pieces in spice mix, reheat and serve. Absolutely dreadful. I should have done what we frequently do, order from the spice merchant in Henley which is in a class of its own.

I have eaten at the House of Spice in Thame on many occasions, but have noticed a deterioration in the quality fo the food. I thought that a different restaurant in the group may be better? On this occasion, I had Chicken Methi with special fried rice and Bombay potatoes.Methi is a really rich herb and gives the most wonderful depth of flavour to a dish but, on this occasion, the dish was bland and tasteless. I am at a loss to think how they managed to achieve this?!The Bombay potatoes were overcooked and mushy and, again, lacked any flavour. The service was generally OK, although the waitress could have smiled more.

This is a great local restaurant with fantastic food. We use the restaurant for take away which is always quick and delicious. We have also dined in on a number of occasions and find the staff to be very accommodating even when we try and book a table for 10 at last minute notice!

Was staying locally so thought I'd have an Indian, found this place on t'internet. Called them to see if needed to make a booking, they said it's not too busy so should be able to fit me in. Had to laugh when I arrived, there was absolutely no one in the place, until a waiter appeared, place was freezing but they did put the heating on for me. Menu was ok with usual Indian fayre, had a sheek kebab, chicken bhuna and a naan bread, washed down with a cobra. Food was ok but could have done with a bit more flavour, naan was slightly burnt but didn't bother me. The beer wasn't good and smelt as if the lines needed cleaning, I got it changed and second one was no better. Overall an average Indian restaurant with room for improvement. Probably my fault for visiting mid evening on a Tuesday.

We arrived 30 mins before closing time, only to be told they were closing for the evening. It looked like they had a quiet Friday evening and so had already started to mop the floors etc.Fair enough, but do check that they’ve not trying to get home early.

This is our local Indian and we've always had (and taken away) good food there. The staff are a friendly bunch if a little reserved. We particularly love the king prawn jalfrezi and sag paneer. Our kids are treated well (and have been invited to visit the kitchens - not all Indian restaurants would do this). Downsides? Parking can be tricky at times; the biryanis are not imo the best.

We live in Watlington and sometimes opt to get a take away from here, not sure why to be honest as it is shockingly bad. Tonight, my other half ordered the food at 7.30pm we where told 40 minutes. At 8.30pm he went to collect still not ready, 9pm he has brought it back and it is stone cold! All I ordered was a starter and Naan.

We've used this restaurant for years and it has always been good, and sometimes great. Whoever was in the kitchen on this particular evening simply did not have a clue. The two very different chicken dishes tasted more or less the same, the mixed vegetable curry was like left over 3 day school dinners with a sauce to mask the flavour, and the egg fried rice resembled nothing I have seen or eaten before - the whole meal was simply awful. Topped off with a couple of spinach dishes which were soggy, cold and tasteless. I do hope this is not going to be the pattern, as word of mouth travels fast and unless they address the basic quality of food, they will not survive when there are so many alternatives vying for the same audience.

There isn't much choice for somewhere to eat in Watlington although they do have a few pubs that serve food, so we decided on a curry. The two curries that we had were OK and definitely better than a pub curry but that is all. Both were chicken in rather bland tomatoe gravy with hardly any other ingredients. We ordered a garlic and chilli nan which didn't have either but a little coriander. We are sure of what we ordered and the staff read out our order before we were given it.

Another fantastic takeaway this evening prompted me to get on Tripadvisor and leave a review. Good restaurants deserve to have plenty of good reviews and this place is good.As the title says, House of Spice is simply the best the Indian restaurant around. The food is exceptional; light, fresh, full of flavour. None of that oily, one sauce fits all nonsense that you find in many an Indian. We have tried plenty of other Indian restaurants and all of those local to us, none come even close. The staff are great too, particularly Ali who does the deliveries (I think he is the owner?) who is just a lovely guy.Try this place, you will not be disappointed!

We had a take-away from here the other Friday night. This time they did not forget anything, but the food is fine. The ordering was simple enough. The food arrived home hot. But, there was something not just right about it. It seemed to lack a bit of uumpph! Sorry, but it is not as good as the Mowchak in Stokenchurch, which is worth the extra journeying in the car.

Running out of petrol on the way back from Heathrow it could have been a disastrous evening. We came off the motorway looking for fuel, and found none, but found a meal at House of Spice, who looked after us like royalty. Green Flag took over an hour to come out, during which time we enjoyed delicious food and great service (and stayed late so we could finish our meal). Okra especially good, as was the Tandoori Prawn dish. Thank you thank you!

Until recently, Watlington had 2 Indian restaurants but in a small town like this, there just wasn't enough business for both to survive. They have the advantage of a small car park which is useful if its a rainy evening and you don't wish to run round from the main Watlington car park. We thought the food choice was very good, the waiters were attentive and most important of all, the food tasted good. Our very substantial meal for 4 people cost £90 (including 4 beers but no wine). We considered this to be very reasonable and are happy to recommend this place.
