My friend and I went for afternoon tea for her birthday as we live relatively local but not been there before. It was so delightful and everything was delicious. Lovely sandwiches, quiche, sausage rolls, cakes and fabulous scones. There was so much choice and a lot to get through and needless to say we were beaten. We were offered little boxes to take the uneaten goodies home. The table was laid beautifully and everything was perfect and made us feel special. My only advice is to pre-book as there are only 3 tables inside plus it will give the proprietor a chance to prepare for you.

Tiny tearoom run by a lovely lady who was very welcoming and who bakes her own cakes. We had bacon rolls with hot chocolate followed by scones and cake. Everything was homemade and delicious. Will definitely be back next time we’re in the area. The village is beautiful and worth exploring too.

This is one of the friendliest tea rooms I have ever visited. It is very small and you can’t help being included in other visitor’s conversations unless you choose to sit outside and watch village life go by. Lyn makes all the cakes herself and told us that she is up at the crack of dawn (or before!) to bake daily and the selection was quite varied. The cherry bakewell was mouth-wateringly delicious as was the blueberry and lemon sponge, it was difficult to choose what to order. Extremely reasonable prices too!

First visit to this cafe. Sat outside had coffee and Victoria Sponge cake. Asked for cream with coffee and it was no trouble. They brought out order quite quickly and it is well used by the village people. Small cafe space and few tables outside. But good place to stop while on a bike ride. And next door is a nice gallery to browse around too 😊

We stopped into the Houghton Tearoom after enjoying a nearby hike. The lady at the counter was very rude to me. When I entered there was a queue. The lady raised her voice, like I was some sort of problem and asked in a gruff manner what I wanted. I was taken back by her negative attitude. I had only just walked in. I told her my order and said I would wait outside. Service was very slow. I regret not walking out and leaving, but to be honest I was in shock regarding how she treated me. The coffee was poor quality. One might wonder why I ordered coffee at a tea house, but others outside were drinking coffee so I figured it would be OK.

We popped in here for a snack before going for a walk around Houghton Mill. We were glad we did! This is a friendly, unpretentious tearoom, with a small indoor seating area plus space outside. The menu is limited because of covid 19. We ordered a tuna sandwich and an egg mayonnaise sandwich, which came with a nice side salad and tortilla crisps. Great value! We had raspberry and mascarpone sponge cake (there and then) and apple & cinnamon cake (to take away). All homemade by the owner and delicious! This lady sure can bake! With coffee and apple juice and a bill under £15, we were delighted. Will return when in the area.

There are only ten seats so be prepared to share a table and make new friends as we have over the years. Its our favourite place to stop when out on a walk as do many walkers and we can highly recommend the food, whether a light lunch or a delicious slice of cake or afternoon cream tea you are going to fall in love! I have visited the tearooms regularly since opening as we often go to the antique shop next door. The tea room is very compact with only three tables, however the cakes alone are well worth visiting East Anglia for. All home made usually a selection of at least half a dozen not including scones, teacakes, sausage rolls; the cakes are always a delight. Today I had an exceptional slice of lemon maringue pie served with cream to compliment the citrus acidity of the filling, my good woman thought her coffee and walnut cake, delicious. With a pot of tea for two the bill came to just over £7, outstanding quality and great value. The service compliments the products and I can highly recommend a visit.

With the friendly owner at the helm Houghton Tea Rooms offers a wonderful range of drinks, meals cakes and sandwiches. The afternoon tea we had was to die for, and the best we have ever had!! Booking in advance is an absolute must as the premises can only seat a maximum of 10 and passing trade sometimes has to be turned away! We booked afternoon tea for 2 to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we where not disappointed. We are both veggie and we where presented with an excellent selection of sandwiches (including veggie ham - a first for us) along with cakes, cheese puffs and little tartlets at a very reasonable price. Dropped in here with my daughter before a visit to the mill on a cold, wet, Wednesday. Arriving at 11.45am, we were going to wait until after midday (that's when they begin serving lunch). On hearing us chatting the staff were lovely and checked how long the jacket spuds were going to be (about 15-20 mins) and were happy to take our order (my daughter wanted the panini without tomato), leaving us free to take a seat, chat and admire the view. Our meals were with us very quickly (sure it was less than they'd said) and I have to say it's the best tasting jacket I've had in a long while, light, fluffy and delicious. I would recommend not only based on the food but also on the excellent service.

I'm not sure what the 1 star fusspot was going on about as the cafe makes no claims to the soup and bread (at only a couple of quid!) being homemade. What it does claim is that the cakes are home made - they are - and baked to perfection. What's more the scones are much better than the National Trust cafe down by the mill. It's a really affordable, nice little village cafe and the proprietor is welcoming and friendly. Often people wait in the village square waiting for a table to become available. We love it and are regular customers. Highly recommended.

It's a nice enough place with friendly staff but I was a little unnerved when I heard the microwave and wondered whose meal that was. Turns out it was mine! We ordered soup and a bread roll with a pot of tea. What we got was obviously Heinz tinned tomato soup (don't try and persuade me it wasn't) and it had that uneven heat to it that comes from being warmed up in a microwave. The rolls were clearly those that come from the supermarket in packs of 6. They were definitely supermarket fresh though. The tea was nice enough and came in a big pot. But we only managed 1 and a tiny bit cups of tea each in dainty little cups. To be fair the price should have given it away. It was too cheap for home made food.
