Every time ive used these guys to stave my hunger theyve delivered 100%. yes you may wate for them to cook as you order but boy is it worth it. The fish batter crisp and good fish. Chips chunky and always piping hot. What's not to like? Having been to there Clifton competitor, these guys knock spots off them.

I went there yesterday and ordered chips,vegan fish ,vegan nuggets,vegan sausage ,mushy peas and tartare sauce but didn’t get the fish ,sausage or the nuggets!…so the main bit! I was the only person in there too so it wasn’t even busy! I was really looking forward to trying a ‘vegan fish’ too! The chips were tasty and the guy was friendly but that’s a bit of moot point.

As I was in a rush, I didn’t return to have the lukewarm chips heated up. The haddock with it was fresh, piping hot and excellent. If the chips had been hot then it would most likely have been perfect. The Bulgarian guy in the place was very chatty, talking at length if not with conviction about the archaeology near Kazanlak. He also insisted I take some complimentary tartare sauce. I didn’t use it as it was served in polystyrene and it looked a bit dodgy. Most interestingly of all, he was talking to a colleague about a northern Irish bank note he’d taken recently. On balance, I’d prefer it if he focused on serving hot chips. Any place which can nail the cooking of fish should find it far easier to get the chips tight.

One of the best cod and chips I have ever had. Super tasty and crunchy batter and thick juicy cod. Comes with all the trimmings lemon, tartare sauce and I ordered curry sauce on the side. Presented and packed well in nice strong boxes. Definitely recommend this place and looking forward to trying the other fish on the menu.

My partner was going with their niece to hippodrome so we sropped in here for a bite before hand. My first time and I informed the staff I was having a difficult time during to overstimuation (ASD) and they were extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic and i will. E coming again. Thank you Anthony and crew for a wonderful first time experience.

Has so much potential being in this beautiful historic building but is really lacking in atmosphere and the service I received was cold and unfriendly. I ordered a macchiato and it was lukewarm when I got it

I recently attended the Basic Ferments and Global Ferments courses run by Rachel De Thample at River Cottage HQ on consecutive days, and both were absolutely fantastic. Rachel is an excellent teacher—knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about fermentation. Each course was packed with information and hands-on opportunities, and I came away with a solid understanding of the techniques, plenty of inspiration, and confidence to try more at home. The sessions were well-structured, with a great balance between learning the science behind fermentation and the practical steps for creating delicious ferments. I especially appreciated the range of recipes we explored, from classic basics to more adventurous global flavors. I’ve brought several ferments home and can’t wait to taste them once they’re ready. These courses have truly transformed how I think about fermented foods, and I’d recommend them to anyone interested in exploring this fascinating and rewarding area of cooking. A big thank you to Rachel and the River Cottage team (including Sean for chauffeuring) for such an enjoyable and educational experience!
