The potatoes were incredible. Not only was the food really good, but the staff were super friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend giving this place a go. It's a laid-back, relaxed vibe. There's also live music! I had the up most pleasure watching Beat Cleaver make live instrumentals with his equipment. Many artists joined him up on stage including myself!

Omg the pecan pie was amazing! The canteen is a Bristol classic and a must-visit location, so expectations were high but omg that pie was so good!

If driving/cycling be careful of the Sentia-based mocktail - it affected me and my mate quite strongly (v v tired for about 45 mins). Suggest staff should warn people who buy it. But it was delicious, so there is that. Gorgeous food too 😁.

Delicious food, beautifully presented, and reasonably priced. We loved the range of flavours across the menu and the outdoor seating is great in the sunshine!

Great atmosphere, solar people. Excellent live music, I really enjoyed the three days I spent there. Dancing and feeling the good Karma of the place. I traveled alone to this wonderful, inspiring and artistic city and The Canteen was my go-to pub. Thank you for making me feel so good.

July 24 - why have we left it so long!? Again, super friendly helpful staff. Everything we ordered was delicious. Menu changes regularly, and staff can advise. Our favourite, smashed potatoes were slightly different but loved this variation. Sharing board was great. Heritage tomatoes, great. 2 different burgers, both great. Highly recommend the mushroom one (NOT a portobello mushroom) Everything was great! June 23 - Great attentive staff. Quite busy even at 5pm. But food arrived quickly, and every dish (6) was absolutely delicious. At this point, I would normally tell you about the vegetarian choices, but everything is either vegetarian or vegan. Spoilt for choice. Definitely going back.

A great bar in the heart of Stokes Croft. The food is great (although I didn’t have any this time), the drinks are good and there’s free music every night. Always a good vibe with space in the terrace to chill out if you need a break from dancing

I’ve always loved the canteen. It has a lovely feel and the staff are always kind and friendly. It’s a nice place to go for a coffee in the daytime (today I had a lovely iced coffee with a friend) and equally a good place to go on a date in the evening for food and to watch some music.

Great vegetarian menu, we loved everything we had. Amazing whipped feta and foccachia, and chocolate croquettes!

Have been to the Canteen for drinks previously, but have never eaten there - so decided to remedy this. Booked a table for midweek with my husband - ordered a number of the veggie/vegan dishes and one of the platters. The result - everything tasted delicious, with great flavours combos. Service was really friendly too and we both thought it was great value for money as well. Particular highlights were the arancini, the salt and pepper oyster mushrooms and the bread! Would definitely return to try more of the menu and would thoroughly recommend.

Did not eat here but bar service was top draw. Had a little shot of the choice of 2 wines, bought the most expensive bottle but due to taste not marketing... Fantastic service.

We ate at Canteen on a weekend away in Bristol. It was by far the best meal of the trip. The food was excellent and exceptional value for money. I would highly recommend.

Went to The Canteen with my wife for her birthday on a Tuesday night. Loved the place - mostly a younger crowd, but although we are in our early Seventies, we felt very welcome. Nice vegetarian food and excellent beer. We mainly went for the music and that was excellent - really good soul/funk/jazz jam night.

Came here the other night and have two complaints. 1. If you offer food until a certain time don't close the kitchen ten minutes before that time, it's really annoying. 2. Cards only! Cutting out cash hits the vulnerable hardest: according to the Financial Conduct Authority, 46% of the digitally excluded, 31% of those without educational qualifications, and 26% of those in poor health rely on it to a “great or very great extent”. Not very Stokes Croft IMO, spend your 'cash' elsewhere...

Relaxed, great atmosphere inside and out in the sheltered street side deck, always easy to meet new people here.

My first time in Bristol and this was a great place for lunch! Had a delicious sandwich and I loved the vibes of the place. The drinks were top notch and the staff was so friendly! Would definitely go back if I'm in Bristol again!

Card only. The last time I was here they charged me nearly six pounds for a mediocre cask pint from BBF. That was on Sunday evening. They have a trade discount that is technically available, but i reality it is pretty impossible to qualify for it. I was told that i would have to show them proof on my phone that I was in the trade, which was impossible because I didn't have my phone on me. (I did have my Gvmt issued alcohol licence handy, but no I needed a whatapp picture of my staff rota apparently.) So despite being one of the most famous pub landlords in the city, I do not qualify. I was with a group of eight others, all of which are in the trade. None of us were able to prove that we were, despite two of them running the better local pubs in the district. What is the point of having a trade offer to attract custom on quiet nights when you make it difficult to get said discount ? We went to The Bell after one drink. Sorry, shall not be back in a hurry.

Amazing vegan Sunday Roast! I'm not a vegan but I thoroughly enjoyed this and would highly recommend. I had the seitan roast dinner and added on the Yorkshire pudding

Whats not to like. Community feel, good drinks and food and in the shadow of a Banksy in the fun part of Bristol!

The food I thought was over priced at £16.50 for a Wellington Roast. The drinks were also over priced. It was advertised as a St Patrick’s Night Caligh but I was very shocked to go to the bar and be told they didn’t serve GUINNESS which is the main drink on ST Patrick’s night in Ireland and in the UK. Very disappointing to say the least. I was also told they serve Guineas shots and so I had a couple which were great but they were made up of Drambuie and Bailey’s !! Why was it called Guinness shots when there was no Guinness or even Irish whisky in the drink.

Went on a Friday had fantastic vegan food , really nice local cider and great music. Will have to go again. Thanks to all the staff who worked hard and really lovely

Enjoyed a late Saturday afternoon couple of Beers, a little pricey at £6 per pint, but a good friendly atmosphere. Food avai, but I had already eaten.

Vegetarian/vegan Sunday roast that was delicious and generous portion. The local is big with a scenario for evening live music, I guess, and quite luminous.

Only veggie Sunday roast, specially delicious the seitan one but I would probably not recommend the mushroom loaf. Also please note that the roasts come without Yorkshire pudding, it needs to be ordered separately. In my opinion the cauliflower cheese portion was quite small for £5.00... A friend ordered the hummus which also was delicious and the extra bread portion that came with it helped me to clean my plate from the delicious gravy.

Amazing food. Im a lifelong meat eater and this place makes veggie food EASILY as a good and delicious.

Haven't eaten here yet, but I have seen some great live music. Fun to go with a bunch of people. I will give the food a go at some point, havent had the chance yet.

I like the canteen. Nice place to visit if you like live music in the evenings. Good selection of drinks - mulled cider is delicious. Gets very busy however, which some people like, but I can find a bit overwhelming. Outdoor area could use more evergreen plants or a wind break behind benches that are along the wall as gets quite chilly in winter.

Really nice palce, very relaxed and I liked the decor. They also have live music on. So it's a good place to have a lovely time. The only downside is that mocktails are non-existent, so it's a shame for people who don't drink alcohol, otherwise good place to visit, and I would recommend it and will be back for sure.

Woweeee. Please go here. Their food is all plant based and absolutely delicious. They do first table as well so all half priced. They have good vibes and you can meet for drink, play some board games, have dinner, sit with your laptop, have a coffee. Something for everyone.

Such a great atmosphere! Went there on Sunday during Veganuary, for vegan Sunday roast (also ordered vegan cauliflower cheese). The cake was nice ending for that meal. It was soooo good! Huge portion, great taste and great beer. I really recommend. Maybe on other months you should check if there's vegans roast.

Ottima cucina, live music tutte le sere. Bella atmosfera, staff simpatico e gentile. Volume dei concerti troppo alto. Peccato non poter mangiare durante il concerto (la cucina chiude presto). Tolgono i tavoli davanti al palco quando inizia il concerto, quindi conviene sedersi prima in tavoli più indietro, per non rischiare di dover interrompere la cena e restare in piedi. Prezzi bassi.

The food here was absolutely exquisite! Divine local, fresh and well thought out combinations of vegetarian ingredients. The restaurant decor was interesting and quirky. The staff were very helpful and friendly and there are lots of local drinks to choose from. I would say an extremely fair price for the value of the food. I will be 100% returning and recommending this place to anyone I know who is vegetarian and coming to Bristol.

We went to The Canteen in search of a space to do some work with a plug for the laptops but ended up staying for food and drinks as well. We were really delighted by the food, it was on the pricier side but absolutely worth the money. The crushed potatoes, BBQ tempeh and quince and polenta cake were all perfect. I was very happy with the gluten-free options both on the bar and in the kitchen. Having both a gluten free (Arbor mosaic) and gf alcohol free (clear head) on tap was a great surprise.

A very special place at he heart of Bristol's music scene. Great vegetarian food, with an excellent drinks selection where Sustainability and low carbon are a central focus. There is always something interesting, quirky and quintessentially Bristol happening at the Canteen.

Whilst searching for some vegan food we stumbled upon canteen and after seeing some good reviews on YouTube we thought we’d check it out. A great hang out spot for sure. Staff friendly and food was delicious. Also the barman recommended an ipa for me that was delicious. Highly recommend

Definitely in the top 3 for vegan/veggie roasts In Bristol. Always a healthy selection to pick from on a Sunday. Also kid friendly during the day which makes it easier to get to with the kids.

OMG … A Definite One 2 Visit We had a wander around town for the afternoon and then headed over to try out our latest Vegan / Plant based restaurant find. The food was absolutely superb - Some of the tastiest food we’ve had in a long time at vegan restaurants. Many are good quality, this was excellent!! 👌 It would be nice to see slightly more attention to detail and also some more vegan options for cakes or desserts but otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Thank you.

Lunch for 9 at The canteen on Saturday consisted of some absolutely delicious vegetarian food. We ordered lots of side dishes and some mains. There was more than enough for all hungry adults and every single dish was amazing. The inside decor is a bit rough and ready but it had a lovely vibe and we would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for vegetarian food in a relaxed setting.

Amazing lunch foccacio with caramelised onion mature cheddar and fried egg! What flavours!!!! Salad so fresh and such a tasty dressing. Attentive staff and great atmosphere. Cant wait to return!

Such a hub of community. Really love the vibes here and the drinks are reasonable. Haven’t eaten here yet but deffo will! It’s dog friendly too. My only complaint would be Charging entry on the weekend but can’t win them all

Went there for a gig and few beers, lovely place to be! And great local beers! Staff's awesome as well. After an year we came back for a sunday roast, was literally perfect! and great jam session monday evening.

The food is so tasty! Staff is friendly and helpful. Alcohol free IPA on tap. Will be going back, definitely!

I came with a large group (12) and we had the set menu. It was so delicious and everyone on the table was very excited and impressed as the vegan/veggie plates were arriving (meat eaters & vegans alike). Brilliant service & as always a great atmosphere:))))

We went to have dinner together since they do veggie options and the food was amazing, very good and tasty. They also offer NHS discount although the staff were not very sure about this but it was confirmed with the manager. Nice live music afterwards, from 22:00ish they remove the tables to create a "dance floor".

This is an awesome place, it holds a great balance between somewhere to work and relax. The food is amazing!

Went out to the Canteen to a live music concert. The atmosphere was great. I took a friend from Argentina and he absolutely loved it. They have a good selection of beer and cider, and the classic cocktails. Stuff super friendly and welcoming! Highly recommended if you want a bit of live music and nice drinks!

Very cool veggie/vegan bar/cafe - with live music every night. Visited on a Wednesday, superb veggie food - really superb - we would visit again just for that. Great atmosphere and vibe - and some really good live music. And it's free entry.

Pity security know how to kill a good place, if you were to just slowly let people in everything would be fantastic, but that’s enough to ruin it for everyone.

We were meeting family for dinner and one of them is vegan so we thought we would try this place which has a complete vegan menu. Most of our party are meat eaters but we were not disappointed with the food, really tasty dishes and very good value for money. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar and the food is delivered to your table pretty quickly. Great atmosphere inside.

My stepson was volunteered to find somewhere for lunch, and decided to take a punt on a veggie-only restaurant despite 40% of the party (him and me) being meat-eaters. The decor and furniture were rough and ready, and the tables could have done with a wipe, but the place was buzzing. It was a whole lot bigger than I expected, too. Orders for food and drink are placed at the bar, you pay up-front, then they deliver your meals. Service was pretty speedy, the staff were all very friendly, and lunch arrived nice and promptly. Sunday lunch has three roast options (the normal lunchtime menu has a greater selection); three of us had the seitan and two the mushroom crumble. We had a couple of sides of cauli cheese and a portion of truffled parsnips. My wife's white wine was perfectly palatable, and as a lover of a strong beer I was astonished at how lovely the 0.5% alcohol beer was (not like me to drink low-alcohol stuff but hey, I have to drive later). We polished off pretty much everything, which was a clear demonstration of how much we enjoyed it. Only one of us had dessert, and although she wasn't overly keen it was more that it wasn't to her taste than that there was anything wrong with it. The whole bill came to about £20 a head, which was very good value in my book. Downsides? Well, in the gents it seems there was no lock on the cubicle (a guy came in and pushed the door, and the occupant seemed to be having to hold it closed), and as previously mentioned there could be a little more cloth-and-table action. But aside from that, it was very good. There was also a comedic moment: a table of five young women next to us departed, giggling, leaving a napkin on the table on which was written a phone number and, from what I could see, the name "Hannah". When the guys came to clear the tables they seemed truly intrigued until we explained to them how it got there. Staff: do please let us and TripAdvisor know what happened next! :-)

We really enjoyed our lunch here, lots of tasty veggie options. It was very busy with people enjoying the sunny autumn day and great food. We had lots of plates of tasty food prepared with care and presented with pride for a reasonable amount. The tables were sticky, and the decor aged but I don't think anyone there cared about this.

Tasty food, but the place is rather grubby. Our coffees were quite unpleasant, and served in chipped cups. The service was rather haphazard.

The lunch food was unreal, 100% vegetarian menu was a bonus for me too. I ordered the loaded crispy potatoes and the bread side, it came really quickly and tasted amazing I was very impressed. The herbs with the bread were delicious and so was the aioli with the potatoes, portions were generous and cheap for what you get! Staff were also lovely, really recommend

Just because I couldn't scan the QR code on entry (asked to sign instead) and couldn't do the same inside (to order) the English tall man (who made my £2.60 coffee) : gave me the most horrifying, threatening looks, throughout my stay ! He also ordered me to go back to my table, when I went to the counter (with mask on) to tell him something about payment !! My recommendation:stay away from the place over the weekend; especially if you are Indian, Pakistani or African/ Caribbean; definitely prejudiced...... I am ashamed to even think of spending money there ! An Indian customer.

The team at The Canteen know how to do Sunday. We came in for roasts at about 2.30. I had the vegan option which was a tasty as lentil and beetroot loaf served with rosemary and garlic roasts and hands down the best vegan gravy I’ve ever had. Lush. My partner had the pork which looked crispy and juicy in all the right places. The team were just lovely whilst serving amazing looking beers and glasses of red to folks tucking into their roasts. The place was vibrant with music (good playlist) and full of people enjoying their Sunday...overall a great vibe.

I recently ordered 2 Canteen pizzas for delivery and I was blown away by the quality. I have tried many pizzas across the city and this was my favourite. We had the Pork Belly and a Vegetarian and both were absolutely incredible. Every bite of the pork belly in particular made me want to weep with joy and shout profanities at the same time. I had always rated the Canteen as an awesome Live music venue but this has cemented it as a proper high calibre restaurant/takeaway that I will be frequenting in the future when i get the feeling the feeling in my knees back. I am not normally one for writing reviews normally but this pizza deserves to be known about!

Tuve un delicioso almuerzo vegano aquí. Quedé muy impresionado con la elección de opciones veganas y la comida era excelente. Tuve una ensalada, que a veces puede ser un poco decepcionante y no muy satisfactoria, pero esta fue maravillosa. Mucho sabor y una buena mezcla de ingredientes, y muy satisfactorio. Mi compañero también estaba realmente impresionado con su comida. Definitivamente vamos a visitar de nuevo.

I love the friendly cheap and alternative place, as you can also have some vegetarian food here, its always packed actually, but their are usually some places left, I love that they play live music here too. If you are not too shabby, and like a bit of alternative stuff go here!

Me and my friends booked her for a Christmas party, there were lots of other tables with work parties as well. Then the live music came on and it was so ridiculously loud. It wasn't bad but it was just so annoying! You couldn't have a conversation with the people you were there with and you couldn't hear anything that was being said over the table. I had a headache by the end of the night.The roast was pretty good but that vegan hazlenut brownie... I spat it out. It was like a tyre, it was so rubbery and chewy. my friend next to me got a piece that was about 50% bigger and was just gloop. About 6 out of 10 of us didn't finish it and we all said how gross it was.Overall a bit of a disappointment, we came here last year and had no trouble with the music nor the food (the filo mince pie with brandy butter last year?? Absolutely delicious, and you could tell brownies had been made as a simple tray bake due to higher number of tables)For £16.50 a head I would have preferred more casual ambient music and a desert that was actually edible.
