The food was nice although I ordered sauce for my steak which came without. Requests for additional items were met with hurried responses. Nobody came to ask if everything was alright with our meal. I asked for olives to-go and was given a paper bag which soaked through so I had to leave them. All-in-all I was very disappointed with the service, as it was a special treat for my birthday with my 3 children.

Great Sunday roast with good service from good staff, loved it. And the best sticky toffee pud ever!!!

Had dinner there last night. It was I oddly quiet at 8 o’clock. They didn’t have quite a few things. They messed up my son’s order, forgot my coffee, charged us extra for chips that were a replacement, the burgers was flaccid and the shortbread biscuit that came with my crème brûlée you could have hammered a nail in with. People were nice

Expensive food, took a while to come out. Burger was average and chips had clearly been left out for a while, tepid and stale. Looked good, but was sadly disappointing. Staff were attentive and friendly.

My boyfriend and I had a delightful evening here at hoof and hook! We started off with the mini tacos which were absolutely delicious followed up with two special steak sandwiches. Hands down the best sandwiches we've ever had, actually calling them sandwiches doesn't do them justice. The service was brilliant. Very clear to see the staff take pride in their work. All in all a fantastic evening. It was our first time and we will definitely be back again.

Unfortunately my partner's main meal came out cold. It was an expensive turf and surf meal. So this put a real dampener on the evening. It took ages to order and receive the initial drinks. Hence 4* on service. Starters were nice. My starter was lukewarm but wasn't sure if that was how it was supposed to be. There was also a performer singing. Though we enjoyed his music, it was a bit loud and we couldn't hear each other talk!

The Hoof & Hook is Situated in the heart of the historic town of Tenterden in the middle of the High Street in the building that was formerly Café Rouge. It has had a complete makeover, not just in its appearance but also the menu. The food is absolutely excellent, very high quality and beautifully presented. I had a "Hoof Classic" burger with fries and it was was delicious, cooked to perfection and the portion size was spot on. Probably one of the best burgers I have had in years, it consisted of two beef patties, cheese, lettuce, pickles, cheese and bacon all served in a really nice bun (sorry I missed the photo). My mother had the King Prawns (pictures attached), she said that they were probably the best King Prawns she had ever had. The service was outstanding and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend the Hoof & Hook. 10 out of 10 guys and keep up the excellent work, looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Be wary of this place, any issues and they ignore messages, don't return calls (even though the manager guarantees he will get back to you that day) and even left me on hold for 5mins then hung up. Terrible booking system, they don't respond to emails and rarely answer the phone

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hoof and Hook in Tenterden, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. We started with the Kentish Mini Tacos, and they were absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and a perfect start to the meal. The blend of local ingredients really shone through in every bite. For the main, I ordered the Hoof Burger with fries, and it was perfection on a plate. The burger was juicy, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection, while the fries were crispy and golden, just the way I like them. We also had the Asian Ribs , which were a delightful surprise—tender, packed with a rich, savoury glaze, and bursting with a perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavours. The combination of incredible food and warm, attentive service made our visit unforgettable. Hoof and Hook is definitely a must-visit if you’re in Tenterden! Arriving at the Hoof and Hook we found the staff to be friendly and polite. The atmosphere is very good and we sat in a booth. Our waitress was very good in helping us with our choice of food and answering any questions we had. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We were all happy with our food. Definitely a restaurant that we will return to and will recommend to others.

This is an update: The meal we just had was beautiful, Staff polite courteous and informed . A real pleasure to eat here! Be prepared for large portions , I didn't. The nacho starter was as good as a main meal and really tasty. I had the bourbon ribs and couldn't even start the second one. Staff were quick, pleasant and attentive . The place was really busy and had a quick turnaround of tables. We weren't rushed in any way but do recommend booking especially at weekends. RECOMMEND.

Sunday lunch. Unfortunately Yorkshire pudding slid off my plate, via my white trousers, onto the floor whilst plate being passed. No apology but would get another pudding. This said, disappointing expensive meal. Didn't come home feeling we'd had enough to eat after two courses.

We had a really lovely family meal (in. Dog) we accidentally booked for happy hour and enjoyed a few cocktails with our meal. Food was delicious and the service was super friendly! The pub is beautifully decorated too. Only downside was, I could have eaten more! But really recommend.

We had a reasonable meal here, although it seemed a limited choice. Burgers, steak or fish, and one of our group felt the wine was expensive (£28/bottle). The one thing that annoyed me was the automatic addition of a 10% service charge, yes I know we don't have to pay it, but it shouldn't be there full stop, the service level should be good enough for me to want to leave a tip? Hence only 3 stars.

Do not miss this gem of an eatery! We hadn't booked as we'd only just arrived in Tenterden. We were greeted so warmly by Michaela (she's a fabulous hostess) who thoughtfully seated us away from a large party of diners. I didn't have a huge appetite so ordered a starter with a side of fries - the crispy prawns with a katsu ..... salsify (a small bowl of deliciousness with 2 skewered lightly breaded king prawns across). No frozen stuff here. We are lucky to eat out often and I can safely say that it was simply THE most delicious, flavourful dish (without being🌶 hot, everyone puts chilli in everything now 🙄). It was so good that I ordered another! I've never done that before. I can't recommend it enough - staff were so warm, friendly and efficient. The menu was different to the usual and beautifully executed. Thankyou Michaela and team, you made our evening. When can you open a restaurant in Epping?!

Today my daughter and I had a late lunch at the Hoof and Hook, Tenterden. The staff were all polite, courteous, welcoming, attentive 🙂 The mains were tasty, great portions and sensibly priced 🙂 I don’t eat sugar or flour so was going to pass on a dessert…but out of nowhere a delicious fruit salad appeared🙂 Very well deserved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️We will be back!

Couldn't eat the chips tasted of old fat.. fish roll was tasteless. Added a 15.00 service charged which we declined to pay. We did tip waiting staff.

Lovely restaurant! Always come in the for favourite cocktails and they never disappoint, food is delicious as well as great service

Second visit to this "restaurant". First time I didn't leave a review but I left thinking the food was substandard and not what I had expected for an independent in this location. The food was dry and overpriced for what was delivered. We all had steak and everyone at the table was of the same opinion. Anyway roll forward 6 months and thought we might try again, we went for a cocktail initially and hadn't booked but the restaurant was not fully booked there were plenty of tables empty so decided we would like some food. We asked a waitress who said it should be no issue and would come back so we ordered a bottle of prossecco, we waited roughly another 30mins and then asked if we were going to be seated in the restaurant and roughly 15 minutes later we were then told they couldn't accommodate us (3 people) because they had an event upstairs. Imagine being a restaurant who can't accommodate 3 meals on a Friday evening. So odd. We were then left in Tenterden at 9pm so nowhere was serving food other than Banjara which was fantastic and very accommodating. Coctails were lovely though to be fair to them but definatly don't reccomend for food.

We held our daughters 21st birthday party in the Blue Room last night. Ellie and her team couldn't have been more helpful. It is a lovely space with fantastic service. I would 100% recommend holding an event there.

Had the 2 course lunch. Brilliant. Magnificent beef croquettes. Magnificent flat iron steak. Wife loved the mussels. Service was friendly, attentive and basically outstanding. Local family owned and uses local produce. What's not to like?! Will definitely be back.

Visited here whilst on birthday trip away,very pleasantly surprised,great friendly welcome upon arrival and was looked after from start to finish by the waiting staff Food was better than expected and delicious,excellent meat and fish selection and reasonably priced,I had the slow cooked pork belly(yummy) and my wife had short rib Ragu linguine,all perfectly cooked,hot and full of flavour,will be returning to try the other dishes we couldn't get through today....well done to chef and all the team for a job well done.

What a lovely restaurant. Stopped here on the way back from Brighton to Essex and very glad we did. Lovely old building, very clean and well maintained, good food at reasonable prices and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Toilets were spotless with Moulton Brown handwashes and lotions. Excellent choice of beers, wines and spirits. I would definitely recommend Hoof & Hook.

Staff really good and friendly. Great choice of nibbles, starters, mains and desserts. The majority of the ingredients are locally sourced with some coming from the owners farm. Decent size portions, really nicely presented.

Have walked past Hoof and Hook many times on our visits to Tenterden but decided this time to go in as we were looking for a decent meal instead of just a cafe type snack. We both chose burgers for our main meal (chicken for me and beef for hubby) which were both absolutely delicious and served nice and hot. We also shared a mixed warm bread and butter starter which went down a treat. The staff were extremely friendly,polite and efficient and the venue itself very comfortable and welcoming. Would definitely return on our next visit to the area.

Bought the T bone steak, upgrades to surf and turf. £50!!! The steak was not T bone and was about 3mm thick. Paid extra for a portabello mushroom which was the size of a 10p and cost £2.50 genuinely one of the worst and most expensive meals in the last 5 years and I eat out regularly.

First of all, I’ll just point out the food is not bad, it’s just not better than average for the cost and quality. I’ve been visiting hoof and hook since it first opened, the burgers were the best in town, juicy, tasty, soft, excellent. But the best thing on the menu bar far, was the ribs, some of the best I’ve ever had. I visited recently, the staff were very friendly and helpful. I placed my order and mentioned that the ribs were no longer in the menu, and that these were amazing, the staff member said “yes everyone says that, but it’s not the direction the chef wants to go in” personally, I think taking the best item of the menu is a massive fail. I ordered the burger, all I can say is, it’s now average at best. These used to be the best burgers in town, they are dry and tasteless. My girlfriend ordered the seafood brioche and although the sauce was nice the brioche was also dry. Its food is nowhere near as good as when it first opened and from speaking with friends they also agreed. they were also disappointed the ribs had gone. It’s now more style over substance, with higher prices and smaller portions. Takehome - most of the pub food in Tenterden is now better. Bring back the old menu.

Recently a group of friends and I had the pleasure of dining at Hoof & Hook, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Our culinary journey began with an array of starters that were a true delight. We shared mini tacos that packed incredible flavor, a Chicken & Ham Terrine that was beautifully crafted, and Crispy Prawns Skewers that were bursting with taste. Every starter was an instant hit at our table! For my main course, I opted for the beef burger, which was arguably the juiciest I have ever savored. The burger was cooked to perfection and each bite was better than the last. The dessert was the grand finale that truly stole the show. We indulged in Orange Crème Brulee accompanied by Lavender Shortbread, which was divine. The Madeira Cake with Caramel Poached Pineapple, Coconut Chantilly, and Passionfruit, served alongside Mango Sorbet, was exceptionally prepared and refreshingly innovative. Additionally, the White Chocolate Mousse with Poached Rhubarb and Caraway Biscotti was not only vegan but mind-blowingly delicious, proving that vegan desserts can indeed be luxurious and indulgent. The freakshakes were heavenly, rounding off the meal with a fun and flavorful twist. Hoof & Hook offers an experience that could easily merit a Michelin star. Each dish was a testament to the chef's prowess and the restaurant's commitment to quality. Dining here was truly an unforgettable experience, and I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone looking for a meal that will impress and satisfy in every way.

Visited with my son and rather than one main dish each, we decided to order a variety of dishes off the menu. Without exception all were excellent. Staff were attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and the cocktails were great too. Will definitely visit again and would highly recommend.

We’ve visited both Hoof in Rye and Hoof and Hook many times but things seem to have gone downhill. The restaurant wasn’t too busy but we seemed to be ignored most of the evening. Food was ok ( chips were undercooked and v greasy though) but the prices have gone up whilst the portion sizes have gone down! The manager was apologetic about the service and food and reduced our bill which was fair but I cannot say we will rush back, they need to have a rethink!

Had a meal here with friends. The other 3 enjoyed their meal, but I had a steak that was supposed to be rump steak, but was a thick chunk of meat and not cooked properly. It was so tough it was hard to cut. They did reduce the meal. Also it just came with chips and a few salad leafs. Would try to eat here again, but avoid the steak. Staff very pleasant and efficient.

1st visit to Hoof and Hook. Family visit to celebrate a birthday. Food was great, service was fabulous and somewhere, if I lived locally, would be a regular location which I would eat at. Bearing in mind we were a group of 6 adults and a toddler the overall cost (under £190 - inclusive of service charge) for 2 courses and drinks was very good value bearing in mind the quality of food and service. Thanks for a great lunch.

We know we always enjoy our food at the Hoof & Hook and we're fortunate to have it located nearby. The meat and vegetables are top quality coming from their farm and the food sublime, we're recognised as regular customers and always greeted with friendly smiles and chat. We all appreciate that freshly cooked and well prepared food takes time and from ordering until the food arrives can be 30 to 40 minutes...because of this I requested a basket of bread to have while waiting which was brought to the table immediately...I do think this should be given as soon as orders are placed without having to ask for it though...turned out to be delicious varied types of bread too

Nice layout and decor. Staff disappointing. Clearly no one in charge and managing the place. Knife and fork placed on table by waitress handling the prongs and blade. Very blunt handling of our order. Meal okay, but very expensive prices across the board.

Went here for dinner as was staying nearby. Really lovely atmosphere and cute decor with wood fire, though I'd say front area/bar is nicer than the back. The staff are so so lovely, polite, and helpful. The service was very good and quite speedy. Food was absolutely delicious and I was particularly impressed by how tasty the wine was. Only criticism is that the portions of food are a bit small for the price and I wouldnt say it was filling. There is a 10% service added to the bill which we expected with a nice restaurant, and didn't mind at all since service was great.

Booked 9 days beforehand but we were given a table in the bar rather than restaurant. Service was slow as we were tucked away, we had to leave the table to find the staff to order more drinks. It was also cold as we were opposite the front door and there was a cold gust when people left or arrived. Food was good but the service and cold took the edge off the occasion sadly.

I have eaten here quite a lot with family as we live locally - always good, great cocktails. I have just booked again and had to repeatedly change my reservation for various reasons - changing numbers, adding a wheelchair user then changing numbers again - and on one of their busiest days of the year - but they were so nice about it, nothing is too much trouble. Very nice staff/management.

Over priced for what you get IMHO

Went for an unplanned lunch on a busy Sunday and although the heating was broken they let me sit by the fire and had a lovely lunch. Excellent service and the Expresso martini was lush! Thank you maisy and the lovely manager who chatted to us too. You all work so hard thanks for a nice Sunday x

My boyfriend & I booked for dinner which I ordered pork belly bits for starter and beef short rib for main. Both plates were very fatty and not much meat on at all. I sent the main back and they agreed and offered to make me another which was much better. However my boyfriend’s food was lovely and I think I just picked wrong! To my surprise they took my main off the bill which was highly appreciated as I didn’t ask for that. Good atmosphere & good service.

My wife and I went for a very cold walk on Saturday and we ended up at the Hook and Hoof for lunch. The open fire was most welcoming. Special thanks to Ellie our waitress and Owen the manager for making us feel so welcome. Especially when we asked to be moved nearer the fire. Food was great, will definitely be returning.

Disappointing food small portions which were very dry and when we asked for some more bread with the starter as the portion was way too small we were told it would cost an extra £2.50. The burger was dry and tasteless.

First visit here, first impressions v. good, pleasant ambience. Waitress very engaging & easy to talk to, food v. good. 4 stars given because of the 'discretionary 10% service charge automatically added to the bill. It is not hidden but not very clear on the menu. I thought it was very cheeky for two people and may influence whether I return. I would have been happy to tip more than 10% but did not. Cross the road to the Vine, food v. good, no sneaky service charge.

We visited last night to start our NYE celebrations, from start to finish our experience was top notch! We were promptly seated and offered water for the table. We sampled a good amount of cocktails which were all delicious and very well made! Now the food is to die for, the Scallops and the Filet steak were some of the best I’ve ever had! Thank you for a lovely evening.

Visited the Hoof and Hook on a Thursday evening before Chrustmas with a large family group for the first time after recommendations from friends, and the food and service were outstanding. The staff were very atentive and nothing was too much trouble. The evening was made even better as to our surprise there was a very talented live singer that evening. We will be back.

Booked for a Saturday evening meal for 5 of us, found the service to be poor- 1 main course was missed, then had to wait, which the waitress found funny, desert was served wrong, cocktail order was lost. Waiting staff were unattentive and didn’t really want to be there. Deducted the service charge from the bill as it was not good enough. What makes it worse the restaurant was not even that busy, but they still got it so wrong.

Was really let down by this place and am really questioning how they are getting a 4.3 star review. We were greeted very nicely and shown to our table which was sticky and flithy the seats had food stuck on the them to which I then had to clean away as they seem quite reluctant to clean. When ordering the food the gentleman that took our order was pleasant and friendly but the person who served us our drinks just slammed all drinks onto the table. When the food arrived to say the food looked unpleasant is mild the chips were salty, hard and dirty looking, the steak the whole 6oz of it wasn’t cooked to my liking it was raw all the way through, we had found plastic in our chip pot and when mention to the waitress she repsonsed with a “oh really.” I would say give this place a miss as I wouldn’t want anyone to have a special occasion spoiled by their experience. It could be a one off but we will not be going back. Such a shame.

Went for dinner at the Hoof And Hook Tenterden, last night with friends, and we had a fabulous time! The food was top-notch, it delivered what it promised in the menu. Beautifully cooked and full of flavour. I particularly enjoyed the seared duck and celeriac starter. The comb worked extremely well, with beautiful succulent duck perfectly cooked. My ribeye steak was flavoursome and cooked to perfection for the main. My friends also enjoyed their food a great deal. Service was efficient, friendly and professional. We had some nice Rioja with the meal. And nothing was too much trouble. I suffer from some severe food allergies, which can potentially be life-threatening. So in advance of our visit, I liaised with Owen, the manager, and also the executive chef, in order to ensure they knew what my allergies are. By preordering my meal it was possible for the Chef to be extra sure that I wasn’t inadvertently given anything, which would make me ill. The attention to detail gave me a great deal of reassurance that I was in good hands, and the meal passed off without any issues whatsoever. We will definitely be going back as soon as we’re able to.

Extremely disappointing....Having previously visited and enjoyed our experience, we were extremely disappointed with our visit today. 4 with roast dinners and 1 with a cauliflower curry. Our meals were not hot, gravy was gloopy, one small portion of cauliflower between 4. Generally really crap food - some of the staff also need some more support their customer service skills - the responsibility of management. Wouldn't recommend to others. Feel their management/chef must have changed. They did take some money off the bill, which was appreciated, but the apology was lacking!

Great Sunday Lunch! Thoroughly enjoyed our family Sunday lunch today. Food and service was spot on, we all had roasts, which came with all the trimmings! Thank you.

Came at 2pm on a Saturday so at the end of the lunchtime rush. Waited 45 mins for mains ! A burger and fries (which were lukewarm) and a plate of pasta ! We asked where the food was after 40mins , no one came back to explain the delay but they did deduct one of the mains from the bill without us asking. Be aware it is cold inside. We moved tables to sit next to a radiator and the people behind us sat with their coats on while they were eating . We won't be rushing back.

Bad experience. Booked a table for 2pm. Place was very busy. Starters arrived but, after 2hrs, mains didn't come. Complained but in the end decided to leave. Paid and got some money off but will not go there again!

Just amazing, from start to finish, there was not one thing to complain about! Service was perfect, the right balance of friendly and attentive. I my friend was surprised with a ‘Happy Birthday’ plate which we didn’t even ask for! As for the food, the Chicken Balotine was possibly one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten! We came here for a Sunday roast with the roast pork belly, which did not disappoint me. It was moist and delicious. Two floors of dining with a private area for private events.
