First time visiting this little place, it looks tiny on the outside but really spacious on the inside, lovely feel to the place, warm and friendly and the décor was particularly splendid, not what you expect from the outside. I was passing through very quickly and I really needed a coffee and a quick snack, I was greeted and seated with friendliness, the coffee was amazing, piping hot and much nicer than the chain coffee shops! I had a slice of cake, and this gave me the sugar hit I needed, it was delicious and left me wanting another slice but then is any slice of cake big enough? Perhaps I was just having a greedy day either that or just wishful thinking! Now this was perfect all of this and warrants 5 stars, until you go upstairs, no accessible toilets that I could see, up nearly 2 flights of stairs past the kitchens (which is good to see them at work) the toilet wasn't the cleanest I had been in, the seat was stained and needed replacing, dust can't be helped but this was dust you could write your name in and literally make a dust bunny out of it! It really needs addressing, nice that they have sanitary products but do they really need to lay in a box full of dust and dirt? The sink and taps have seen better days too. First impressions really do count, this could be such a perfect little gem but some simple things really do need to be adjusted and made more hygienic. I am not sure if I will return or not due to not living here, but I can promise you that you will receive a lovely warm welcome and an amazing cup of coffee. If you don't need the loo when you are there, you'll never know about the stuff I have mentioned. Go and see for yourself, support local companies instead of the big brands!

There was a sign to wait to be seated, so we waited for about a minute before someone shouted over to just take a seat but that is my only complaint. Oh, and that the veggie sausage for my mum was a bit overcooked. Other than that the food was lovely, service great, clean and nice atmosphere in the middle of town.

We were staying in the area and fancied breakfast. Despite being very busy the staff were very good and rejigged the tables to meet our needs. We all ordered the Traditional Full English and weren't disappointed. The food quality was spot on and well presented. The staff were very friendly especially, and sorry that I didn't get your name, the Scottish lady. We will be back.

Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. As soon as we walked in we could see that it was busy. We thought this was a good sign. We sat down by ourselves, not even seated, to only one napkin placed on the table and 2 sets of cutlery that wasn’t polished and just placed on the table by itself. There was no menu so we sat there for a solid 5 minutes to then get told by other customers that you go and get them from the desk yourself. Still high hopes at this point… Another 5 minutes passes by and a waitress took our order. We both ordered avocado and poached eggs. The waitress was polite, no complaints there. Time passes by and our food arrives. One slice of sourdough bread with no butter, covered in spinach with a non ripe avocado topped with one hard poached egg. Our faces dropped. The bread could’ve broken teeth. We was really disappointed with our egg and we was that upset we didn’t complain as we both just wanted to get out asap. After we finished, our plates and cups were still kept in front of us. Isn’t professional at all. As a waitress, you clean and take care of customers. Instead, staff were standing behind the desk talking and eating. I went up to to till to pay and it came to an outstanding £27.90 which is absolutely outrageous. I could’ve cried when she told me the price, I would’ve much rather have not bothered. Overall, friendly staff and lovely environment but wouldn’t recommend in the slightest.

We've been to the Honey & Fig brasserie in Retford a number of times and never experienced a problem. Today things were slightly different. It was a bright summer's day so we expected the brasserie to be rammed packed. There were a couple of people sitting outside in the sun but only 4 others inside. Bonus we thought, we can get a table. We were quickly given a choice of tables, offered the menus from which we ordered two coffees, a single-shot Americano and a Flat White. We sat waiting for a short while and then became aware of a lot of chatter coming from the counter area. When we looked over we could see all the staff ( a gaggle of young women) having a laugh, a joke and a chat. The young woman working as the barista was leaning on the counter chatting to another member of staff on the other side completely oblivious to us and our order. She saw us looking at her and, with a sheepish look on her face, quickly turned to the coffee machine to make our coffees. I'm afraid I have one of those faces, the way it hangs I think, that gives a strong impression of displeasure, and I think that's what may have come across today. The management should ensure that the staff are clear that orders come first and time for chatter is for the slack times and not necessarily on the shop floor. Not a very satisfactory experience for us I'm afraid. We noticed that another coffeeshop had opened up directly opposite the Honey & Fig so will probably try that one next time instead. This may also account for the lack of customers when we arrived which didn't change during our visit.

This is one of the best places for great food in Retford and I go whenever I'm visiting the town centre. So when it came to organising my friends baby shower, I thought I would enquire about their upstairs room to hire for the afternoon. Such a reasonable place and the room is gorgeous!. The staff were fantastic, and the manager kept in touch in the lead up and arranged all the pre-orders. We had a fabulous afternoon, and I would not hesitate to recommend this place. Amazing food, great customer service, and friendly staff. Thank you, Honey & Fig!

Went here for lunch with my daughter and sister, been several times before and always enjoyed it, but today our experience was shocking, firstly the staff just didnt care , they never made sure we had knifes and forks, brought our drinks one at a time , our food took so long my daughter had to eat fast and get back to work ,( she had an hour) we ordered panini, muffin and my sister had scrambled egg on toast( not hard to do) this came cold and the bread was rock solid she couldn't chew it, no staff came over to do a check that everything was ok, so when they finally took the plates she explained it wasnt good, the staff shrugged and said that's how it comes, ( burnt)when we got to the till she said again about it not being good but they just ignored her , when she came to pay she exclaimed it was a joke, the girl behind the till remarked she had been rude but still took the money , the manager joined in saying how rude we both was and to please leave, strange behaviour, customer care at its finest , we will most definitely not be going back

After waiting 40 minutes our meal was brought to the table. My meal was a simple scrambled eggs on toast. Unfortunately my toast was cooked to the point of being burnt black and extremely hard. I could not cut through the crust and had to leave all of the toast except for a little bit in the middle that had been slightly softened with the butter and scrambled eggs. We did not receive a call back to check if the meal was satisfactory. When the waitress came to clear the table I remarked that my meal was not very good due to the bread being so very over cooked and hard. To this the waitress remarked that yes soar-dough can do this and left with the plates. When I approached the till to pay, I again raised my dissatisfaction with the staff serving me ( there was two staff behind the counter at that point) the member of staff that took my money said ‘yes I saw your plate’ and proceeded to take my payment without offering any resolution to my dispute. During my payment I remarked that I found the situation a joke. Immediately the member of staff accused me of being rude to the manager? This remark confused me for a second ( apparently the Manager was the other member of staff behind the counter stood along side this member of staff) I was astonished at the reaction and asked why she thought me to be rude? She replied that I simply shouldn’t have made the remark ‘a joke’ and refuse to have paid and that I should have asked to see the Manager- ( whom without my knowledge had been standing with this member of staff listening to the whole conversation??) I replied that I had raised my concerns but I had not been offered any resolution and was asked to pay for the meal. The Manager then remarked that she would like me to leave the establishment as she found me to be rude. I am still reeling by my experience and would never go back again- I am truly speechless at the treatment that I have received.

We popped in for breakfast as it was a rare occasion that both my wife and myself had a Saturday off work. We were greeted nicely and seated . The waitress started to take our order and then spotted something that must have been more important and excused herself and walked away. She reappeared a minute later to finish taking the order. All good so far, the coffees turned up, a little on small size for the price, but ok , cost of living and all that. We sat and waited for the all day breakfasts we had ordered and then we noticed tables that had come in after us were being served, so after a total of 45 minutes I asked how long it would be before we could get our order and was told it didn’t print out so it wasn’t being cooked. So a total of 55 minutes and £7 down, we paid and left. This was our first visit and it would take a lot for me to make a second one.

The staff were really friendly. The children had breakfast wraps. Yes they were £7.00 each and you can get one half the price at McDonald’s but you wouldn’t get the quality that you did here. They were not greasy and seemed to be high quality meat. The teacake was lovely and the ham and cheese croissant were equally lovely. The drinks though are small cups and I prefer larger drinks. We ordered a second round of coffees and although these are the same price they didn’t come with the quaint little biscuit as the first round had. Toilets are a trek up two flights of stairs but I suppose they can’t help where they are. It was a lovely experience the drinks and food and we’ll be back.

We have walked past this place a number of times, it's always looked lovely and intriguing.Decided to go today for the first time; for brunch....... As we walked through the door we had no idea if we were supposed to find our own table, or whether staff seat you. I spoke to a young lady who told us to sit where we like, but not a friendly hello or welcome in sight! We sat at a small table for the three of us (with our young daughter), and waited far more than 5 minutes, not once approached by any staff member. I ended up walking to the counter to collect a menu, and had to return several minutes later for a childrens menu. I questioned at this point whether it was table service or whether I needed to return to order and to be fair to the guy, he came to the table a couple of minutes later for our order. To cut a long story short we ordered our food. It was presented well and tasted great, despite the fact they got out order for our 2 year old wrong (not sure how you mistake one slice of toast and one piece of bacon for something else), they agreed to deduct the wrong items from the bill. They did check the food was ok after a few minutes and that we were happy. At the end of the meal, I approached the till to pay. Paid the same guy and no positive, friendly or particularly warming goodbye or attentive service. My rule is...... friendly appreciation of your customers goes a long way, that tiny bit of decent, common practice costs nothing, but makes the world of difference.Sorry to say I wont return again as you're clearly not that interested in your customers. In a town packed with cafes and eating places, I would expect politeness and great customer service to be top of your list.To conclude, food was great, reception and etiquette far from it!

It was very busy at 1130, that’s always a good sign, the lovely staff noticed us straight away and welcomed us, bringing the menus over and ordering the drinks within 5 minutes. We ordered two vegetarian breakfasts, the atmosphere as we waited was lovely, the staff very happy and friendly, the decor was really nice and it was all very clean. The vegetarian breakfast was very generous, we didn’t expect it to be so big, it consisted of; two vegetarian sausages, 2 hash browns, a fried egg, halloumi cheese, mushrooms and beans, with toast, I opted for gluten free bread which was tasty. The food was served very hot, nicely presented on a big plate, a delicious non greasy vegetarian breakfast. We will definitely return here, first impression, very positive!

We went on a recce to Retford as my parents are moving out that way. Food was high on our agenda by the time we wandered the high street, and Honey and Fig looked just the type of relaxed yet enjoyable place for a pitstop. We weren’t disappointed. They offer a great range of different teas (my partner tried the White Chocolate aroma) and also various soft drinks and alcoholic beverages (I opted for tasty ginger beer). My brie and chutney sandwich was delicious, on a lovely soft bloomer with a side salad more generous than some establishments provide. My partner enjoyed poached egg and spinach on toast, followed by a tasty millionnaire slice (beautifully presented). Besides the food and drink, retro music adds to the relaxed atmosphere of the establishment. The perfect place for breakfast, lunch or a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

I used an afternoon tea gift voucher for 2 for my afternoon tea, but the service left a lot to be desired. I was quite excited, because I've had delicious sandwiches here before and the service was good, but not good time, on several counts.

We have been visiting here since it opened, when we first went and the few times after this the quality and portion of the food and drinks was excellent as was the service, however, the past 2 times we have visited the quality and quantity of the food has become poorer and less. Initially the toasted teacakes used to be 3 halves, now its only 2, however, the price has not been reduced to reflect this. This is the same with many of the dishes offered in a morning, today we visited again, met by a grumpy and rather abrupt member of staff, not seen her before, asked her for the teacake to be toasted a little more as they are barely toasted, she replied the toaster can't do it more as it just burns, I said it toasted it better last time I was here and I don't want it untoasted. She huffed. To be honest if the chef can't cook a toasted teacake as the customer wants it they need to go back to chef school or buy a new toaster. The lattes were barely warm and the other meals which my son and husband had did not reflect the ones they had been given on previous visits thieir meal was the open breakfast sandwich with some barely cooked bacon and a couple of sausages and supposidly toasted bread this cost £6.95, not at all worth it. The bacon used to be bacon medallions now it is fatty and not good quality bacon. To be honest not sure I am going to return as the service from this new person (with alot of tattoos) is poor, the cost of the food is high, the quality and quantity dropping upon each visit. This used to be nice, think we will have to find somewhere else for our regular Saturday morning breakfast as there are plenty of places in Retford.

Very clean place however, when the crockery arrived my cup was dirty. They obliged in getting another, but how was it missed in the first place. The staff were very welcoming and very friendly.we were there for lunch and had ordered ceasar salad, paninis and I had a chicken sandwich served with salad and coleslaw. It was very tasty, the coleslaw in paticular, with chunks of chicken however the salad was more of a garnish than a "served with"overall a good visit

We had spent the morning at Clumber Park and decided to have lunch else where. We popped into Retford and happened upon the Honey and Fig. The place was fairly full when we arrived, only 2 spare tables. We found one near the counter and were quickly welcomed and given a menu. There was a good choose of baguettes, salads, panini's, jackets as well as the specials board with burgers and a salmon dish. I had a jacket potato and my husband had the burger, the food and drinks arrived quickly and were freshly made making them tasty. The food was excellent value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful. An enjoyable meal and I will definitely be popping back when I'm next in Retford.

We visited today, Sunday, for a spot of lunch. Steak and Mushroom panini each and very tasty they were too. Service was prompt and friendly. It mystifies me however that such a cafe can run out of Diet Coke and orange juice - there’s a supermarket around the corner!

Because of its glossy black paintwork exterior, one doesn’t easily notice the large former shop windows of yet another new restaurant and coffee shop on Carolgate in Retford. In my experience, this type of sombre colouring may be considered “cool”, but it soon loses its surface shine , due pollution, unless it is regularly washed down and touched up. I was looking for a bit of gaiety and colour in the street.

My Wife and I are regular customers of this fantastic establishment, it’s that good, we travel 17miles round trip just to eat there, it’s always, clean, comfortable, the staff are friendly, efficient and nothing is too much trouble, a special mention for Ruby, no matter how busy she is or how unwell she feels she always greets you with a smile and asks how you are, professional and a credit to her employer, thank you all for always being the best in Retford 😉

Not a bad atmosphere as you walk through the door, although it took a few minutes for them to realise I was there, luckily the TV was on current affairs. Some tables still had dirty plates on them. Ordered a large sandwich and was asked if I wanted extras on, (egg was mentioned but I didn't get any). The sandwich was well worth the money (£4.60) as it was really full. Negatives were: bread was soggy but this was due to everything inside, eg coleslaw, salad cream etc. This also meant the sandwich fell to bits so I had to eat it with fork. They used clingfilm instead of foil/paper to wrap, this added to the mess when it was unwrapped. Big one for me was the lady DID NOT use gloves, I mentioned this and she said that she had just washed her hands, the clothes she was wearing were really dirty which did not fill me with joy. Overall the sandwich filled me up, the staff was kind and helpful but I won't return as I prefer cleanliness above all else.

This pub is a tale of two halves. The decoration & ambiance of the pub is lovely, loos are clean and ample parking. The pub was wonderfully dog friendly & the lady behind the bar & taking food orders was wonderful, friendly and vey helpful, the drinks were great and amazingly cheap.....However..... I'm afraid the whole evening was ruined by the food. I ordered the Fillet steak, medium rare @ £25.00 (not expensive), I asked for side salad instead of onion rings, mushrooms & toms. No sauce. What arrived was a very small sirloin (poss rump) steak, 1/2 " thick with a good 1" of unrendered fat down one side and over cooked. Plus a side of pepper sauce I never ordered. I questioned if the order had been taken down wrong or misread but I was assured that the Chef says The steak is definitely fillet! & the sauce is complimentary!..... I am not a butcher but I do know what a Fillet cut looks like !!! This was NOT. I was on a date with my partner so didn't want to complain, or embarrass him, but I feel bad that I allowed him to pay for something I definitely didn't have! I ate the meal which was edible but not what it was meant to be. The couple on the table behind us had a lengthily argument with the chef about his steak, sent one back & refused to pay for the second!! I don't mind if things aren't available or the kitchen is short staffed. I don't care of orders are taken or read wrongly BUT to be LIED to is unforgiveable. If I was there on my own I would not have accepted my meal. That said, my boyfriend's Faggots were lovely.......In short, A lovely pub for a cheap drink.......just don't have high expectations of the food.

Enquired about my dog and advised dog friendly but no longer does food so makes any reviews a little academic
