An absolutely appalling Sunday lunch. Staff in hotel reception were too busy chatting to direct us to the restaurant. On entering the restaurant there was no one to book us in, A staff member at the bar continued a casual conversation without acknowledging us. 5 minutes later took us to a table. The vegetarian item was different to the advertised item with our Wowcher deal menu. We ordered and after waiting some time but the starters didn't arrive, instead our main course arrived, we had not had our starter! An afternoon tea also arrived, but was not our order! The main course went back to the kitchen and given the assurance that we would have a completely fresh meal cooked. The server gave the excuse that the 'chef' had his mind on the wedding reception they were also catering for. Our starters were eaten and upon taking away the dirty plates we were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu! (We had not had our main courses). Our main courses arrived but bypassed us to head to a different table, eventually arriving at our table. It was as predicted, very much on the cool side. The image we had seen on Hollin Hall's website was nothing like the meal we were served. The Yorkshire Pudding was small, completely unrisen and undercooked. No stuffing was served with the chicken. The vegetables chopped into small rubbery chunks of carrots, parsnips and onion were rubbery and overcooked. All the food was lukewarm. No checkback was made during the meal. As the plates were cleared we were asked if the meal was OK, but had to be honest and report it was the worst Sunday lunch we had ever eaten. The server apologised saying they were short staffed as they had a wedding on! As we got up to leave no one came to offer the bill or take our voucher, so we had to leave it on their reception desk. No one bid us goodbye or thanked us for our custom. We felt very undervalued. I suggest on such occasions they should not even attempt to serve what they advertise as a Sunday Lunch when they are catering for weddings. Without a doubt we will NOT be returning for any reason. Avoid at all costs.

Italian restaurant with an english cook (the Italian cook left recently). Indeed the lasagna was over baked, in a too big bowl, tasting flat like yesterday made. Of course, we complained, twice. No reaction from chef or from waiter. No compensation, no apologies. No tip either.

The meal was served cold, after two requests it was heated in a microwave by the waitress as no one was available in the kitchen. The ultimate result was sludge like vegtables, due. to additional heating. The main meal was roast beef and and no condiments were available. They were out of stock of horseradish sauce. It would appear that their clients were an inconvenience and no effort was made to provide any reasonable dining experience. Wine was no longer available included in the dining package as outlined on their website but an expensive extra if required. We will never use this restaurant again.

Lovely area and village, hotel is currently an average 3*, in need of a bit of TLC with decorating, peeling paint in bathroom and restaurant ceiling looks like water leak or damp patch, but having said that for we paid for a one night stay £89 for two of us this inc two course meal, bottle of wine and breakfast it was very good value and would recommend to anyone via woucher. The room, bedding and towels were exceptional clean and the staff can not do enough for you - overall very pleasant stay.

We had one evening meal and 2 breakfasts in the restaurant. It looks as though it has been decorated fairly recently although there are some badly marked dining chairs and areas of the carpet. Our evening meal and bottle of prosecco was included in our Groupon deal and it was exceptional both in presentation and taste. For starters we had Duck & orange pate, and trio of haddock & smoked salmon fish-cakes with tartare sauce. For mains we had a butternut squash & spring onion risotto and a chicken, parmentier potatoes, butternut squash, cherry tomatoes & chimichurri. There were supplements for the sweets (£4.50 for cheeseboard and £3 for chocolate tart) that we ordered. Breakfast on the first morning was OK. No buffet due to Covid. We both had fresh fruit salad and yogurt, toast and a freshly cooked full English breakfast. Unfortunately my bacon was so hard I could not eat it. The second morning the bacon was fine but there was NO fruit available, only yogurt!

We stayed for 2 nights the room throughout the visit had a musky damp smell, rooms are clean but need a good refurb, all our clothes were damp and I had to keep having a shower to get the feeling off my skin. We stayed for one night . Did not expect a great deal for the price , £89 for two. Double room, dinner with wine, breakfast . Hotel looked pleasant from the outside with plenty of parking . Quick check in process, following COVID rules . Room was modern, clean and bright . Sheets , towels and bedding were clean and ironed . Toiletries , tea tray etc were plentiful and clean. Very warm throughout the hotel , but our bedroom window opened onto the garden view, which was nice. Two course dinner was tasty and not the usual pub fare ! Duck, crab, fish, veggie or chicken . Mediterranean style cuisine . We added dessert for a small extra cost . Well cooked and presented modern fare . The wine was also very nice, included in the deal. We slept well. Breakfast was Ok, eggs a little cold , but edible. Plentiful coffee . Pleasant staff on check out . A very good example of value for money . We would have no hesitation in returning. The only improvement would be a tin of paint to improve the appearance of where new locks had been fitted on the bedroom doors . Painting over the damaged wood would lift the doors and make them more attractive . We wish you luck in this present situation , which must make it hard for hospitality venues .

Then when I intimated I would complain, the receptionist refused to tell me her name. I eventually established the persons name. What sort of operation is this? This place and their staff have no integrity. when you try to book a table on line ...there are none available on any Sunday for the next 12 months, a likely story!!! The hotel is very nice the food was very nice . BUT There was six of us which equals three rooms . All booked on groupon , two couples booked in no problem, the third was not so easy . On arrival there was no room reservation for couple number three . We had proof of booking and proof of payment. Yet the manager called Lynne said there was no reservation and no proof of payment... after showing them the email and paypal payment Lynne still continued to approach us throughout our stay to say I can't find on there system of a booking ... i can not believe that as a paying customer that the manager which approved all three rooms on arrival is still asking for proof of booking and payment. This is not expected as far as I'm concerned the matter has been resolved at arrival. The rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful... bottom line make sure you have the barcode from groupon or you will be in for a complicated stay which is not worth the £119 for one night.

our daughter had purchased a wowcher for our xmas gift a 2 night at the Hollins country house hotel .bed breakfast evening meal one night and a cream tea with a glass of prosecco each. IT was booked for 31st March 2019, coinciding with mothers day. we arrived on late on the saturday afternoon, I had rung earlier to ask if we could have the evening meal on the saturday and the cream tea sunday afternoon. NOT a problem we were told as we were staying the 2 nights. WE had a super evening meal and were looked after very well. the next day we decided to explore the surrounding countryside. we visited LYME COUNTRY HOUSE AND PARK. but as we needed to be back for the arranged cream tea at 4pm. we did not eat much. we arrived back at 3;;30pm startled to find our room had not been cleaned or the bed made.We hastily washed and went down for the allotted time of 4pm. the resturant was very full with dinners after all it was mothers day, families were out together. feeling hungry and a bit tired we were led to a table. completely bare. no tablecloth, or any thing, I said we had come to have the cream tea that had been booked. My husband and I sat down a few minutes later someone came with a tray contains 2 cups saucers and a small pot of tea. I was appalled ALL THE TABLES IN THE RESTAURANT HAD WHITE TABLECLOTHS ON, i rather loudly said stop where is the tablecloth. I was really upset and felt very uncomfortable . We were then told well I should never have been here today, the waitress then left and returned 10 mins later with a small white table cloth. I felt very embarrassed by this as I should not have raised my voice and I apologised stating i was very sorry for saying it so abruptly. the table now set with the cups and tea pot. She came back then with two small scones a small pot of jam and small pot of cream. That was it. I stared at this in disbelief

We arrived here this afternoon to discover a wedding taking place. Huge disappointment to us as we were looking forward to a lovely peaceful 1 night stay. I did ask the receptionist if this would impact on our stay and she said no, completely disagree, this wedding party literally took over the hotel, very noisy drunken party, we have paid to stay here too and feel that my concerns were completely disregarded. Visitors should be warned prior that a wedding is taking place to give them the choice to book elsewhere. Ridge restaurant very nice as was the waitress and service. We arrived at the Hall having booked a table in the Ridge restaurant. We were shown into the modern conservatory that is the restaurant. There was one vegetarian option on the menu. We asked if there was a vegetarian menu. 'No' said the waitress as she walked away. We looked at the wine list and ordered a Viognier. We tasted it and it was foul - not off, just horrible. We were told that we would have to pay for the bottle as it had been opened. Without a decent wine or a choice of food, we decided that this was not really going to be a pleasant evening (my birthday) so we left. They did tell us as we got up that we wouldn't have to pay for the wine. Now if you are in charge of buying wine for this hotel may I recommend that you taste the stuff before you expect your guests to shell out good money for it? Waiting staff, if you have a vegetarian who doesn't like aubergines, say, 'I'll go and have a word with the chef and see what we can do'. Management, train your staff so that you have fewer poor reviews in the future.

Stayed as part of a package deal which included cream tea, 3 course dinner and breakfast. Restaurant is nicely decorated and has a good ambiance. Slightly disappointed by the cream tea as it was a scone with jam and cream and a cup of tea or coffee per person. In my experience when purchasing a cream tea you are usually offered two scones or at least a choice of fruit or plain scone. They did also offer an afternoon tea which appeared to be more substantial. Dinner was from a set menu. Some items had a supplement. The hotel was busy and despite having taken the only available booking at check in we were not seated until 45 minutes later. No menu was offered while we were waiting. We eventually got to order ( no one offered us anything from the wine list) and the food arrived some time later. One older member of staff was quite abrupt ( they were busy but it wasn’t our fault!) but the younger ones were very pleasant. The starters and main courses were well presented and tasty. Disappointingly the choice of dessert had reduced by the time it came to ordering and although what we chose was nice it was really too heavy for the time of night (past 10pm). I would recommend the restaurant for the food but it needs to be managed better when busy.

Having booked a weekend break through Living Social that included a 3 course event meal, we weren't sure what to expect. Everything was delicious. The prawn and crayfish cocktail was enormous and really tasty as was the sea bass which was really well cooked. My creme brule was velvety smooth while my husband's chocolate brownie was really rich and very moorish. On our second night we chose to eat in the bar, where the standard was equally good. My chilli was nicely spiced while my husband's was very pleased with his curry. Breakfast was self-service which was idea and te and coffee were plentiful. A really good choice for a place to stay or, if you're local, and meal with the family. Either way, you won'tbe disappointed.

A good choice of dishes. I am sure ethat everyone could find something to suit them. As part of a dinner, bed and breakfast deal, it was very good value.

We had afternoon tea in the restaurant. Reception area and lounge looks nice and cosy with live fire. Bit disappointed with the table we were sat on. Too close to other table that was also occupied. The food itself was nice and staff polite and attentive. Would recommend.

Afternoon tea for 4. Crammed onto a table for 2. Having to put Cups on top of sugar bowl. Cups having to be removed off table. No spoon/ fork to eat cakes with. 5 cakes between 2 people?? Eh? Who looses out? Teapot filthy! Cracked honey pot. English breakfast tea ordered.. Earl grey bought! Two teapots taken away.. Only one bought back? One hour with not one member of staff returning to ask if everything OK. One hour passes, I have to ask receptionist if we can have our tea. Empty plates not taken so now even less space for the teapots!! A empty room right next to us.. With large tables! All teapots dribbled. Coke / Pepsi was flat. Come on hillon hall pull ya finger out!! Chef did a great job. Staff were useless. Without a Groupon voucher this would have cost £80!!!! I would be requesting a full refund. For some reason I can't upload the pics. See Facebook page, they are there.

Food excellent. The fudge brownie was the best I have had (and I have had a few) however they had run out of vanilla ice cream which I was not happy about.

Our experience of Afternoon Tea at Hollin Hall was superb. The Hall is full of character, retaining many of its original features with beautiful furniture and decor. The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive and the food was outstanding with an excellent variety of cakes and sandwiches and as much tea or coffee as we wanted. We would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant for afternoon tea. It was the best afternoon tea we have ever had

My husband and I are currently at Hollin Hall...what a beautiful place! We booked this via wowcher and for what we have paid and what's included you absolutely cannot fault the place. My only criticism is that it is so hot in here, it's like being abroad!! Last night we had a 3 course meal, the steaks melted in your mouth and the staff were really attentive. On hearing it was my husband's birthday they gave us a complimentary glass of wine each. Would recommend this place to anyone.

We ate here as a couple in February. We both had a 3 course meal as part of a groupon deal which also included a one nights stay (wouldn't stay again) and a glass of prosecco each (which we didn't receive) Our meals were very good, I really enjoyed my starter of potato and leek soup and also the dessert of sticky toffee pudding was very good too. The menu for paying customers and anyone with a voucher was the same which we thought was very good. The waiting staff were all very attentive and friendly. The reason I haven't given 5 stars is due to the fact that the restaurant was ice cold which was a recurring theme for the entire hotel. There were portable heaters plugged in all over the place but that didn't improve the situation at all. If we were ever in the area again we would definitely return for a meal but only in the Summer! We also had breakfast in the restaurant which was also very good and had a very wide selection, hot items, pastries, toast and a variety of cereals.

We booked a table for 6 person, We were shown to our table. we all looked at each other, a bit worried as we were the only ones in the restaurant for a 1pm reservation. We were greet by the waitress. Very friendly. Took our drinks order and left the menus. Came back took out order and was very helpful. 5 roast beef and 1 roast pork. Food arrived. It was presented very well and the tasted fabulous. The worry had now gone completely. To cut a long story short we as a family would have no worries in recommending the Hollin Hall to anyone family, friends and anyone reading this review. We went away very happy and we will be back again.

We had a voucher so our food was included in the hotel stay. However the price for paying customers was advertised and our three course meal would have been £30 each, including a £4 supplement for steak which is very reasonable. Starters were lovely (feta salad, mussles). Two steaks for main course, both perfectly cooked, blue and rare, sauces to go with the steaks were AMAZING, one blue cheese and one peppercorn. Lovely cuts of meat too, I am very picky about my steak and always worry its a risk ordering in a new place! Then for dessert we had one sticky toffee pudding - wow! and one chocolate brownie. The wine list is good and my wine, the Compass Point Shiraz was beautiful (Ive even looked into buying a case now I'm home!).The dining room is beautiful, nice quiet background music and lovely attentive staff. So good we ate here the second night too as full paying guests.Would recommend to everyone! And wish I lived closer to pop in more often!

I was very pleased to see Hollin Hall had new owners last year. The Hotel is in a smashing location and has always punched below its weight. We decided to organise two dinners for larger parties there, one in December (ca. 35) and one in January (ca. 25). Whilst I've lived in Bollington for some time and used the hotel previously, I was unaware of the two upstairs private room for dining. We had the one upstairs on the left on both occasions. Arrangements were easy to make and turned out great for both events. Food was absolutely lovely and really good value. Service was very attentive and friendly. Very happy indeed to recommend to others. Bollington needs Hollin Hall to be successful. Good Luck !

The afternoon teas was excellent with a good assortment of cakes scones, clotted cream ( a must have in my view) and a good selection of finger sandwiches. The one negative was the stupid little teapots with a tiny spout, impossible to pour without spilling the tea. Please get proper sized teapots with a long spout, then it would be perfect.

Visited for a family lunch last week, greeted with a warm fire as we walked in and friendly staff. We opted for a drink in the bar and we're shown through, we were then seated in the beautiful, light restaurant, (with the comfiest restaurant chairs I have ever sat on!! I'd like to know where to buy some) The family ordered all beef, I chose the veggie option because risotto is my favourite and I was certainly not disappointed. Plus I still got to pinch some pigs in blankets and beef and veggies. It was served in sharing plates and felt like I was sat at home with people fighting over the last pig! With the tiniest bit of room left for desert we chose the trifle, sweet and fruity we did our best but we were full to the brim. Coffee and tea to finish and it was off home to rest our bellies. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and will definitely be worth revisiting again and again.

My husband booked 2 nights away in between Christmas and New Year, on arrival impressions were good and receptionist was pleasant. Had 3 course dinner in the restaurant which was good. Breakfast was good and ample choice. Rooms looked clean on first impression but attention to detail needs work in both the restaurant and the rooms. The restaurant was cold and heaters could be seen being used.

Would have liked to have given 5 stars... But the cheeky so and so's carpark has sent us a parking charge notice!!!!! We've eaten in pubs and restaurants, all over the country and never ever had to pay for parking, I don't even remember seeing anywhere to pay for parking? We were so pleased with the food that we were going to make it our regular stop when we go to the nearby airport monthly. Well certainly not going to be doing that now!

The most appalling 'meal' and service that I have ever been subjected to. We ordered steak and ale pie and this was brought out to us and placed on our table and described as a pie. However, there was absolutely no pastry, just a bit of gravy in a dish. When I called the waiter back he said 'to be honest, we've ran out of pastry' - are these people for real? To add insult to injury, the manager actually tried to charge us for the pies we never received!!!! Shambolic and not for the first time, but definitely for the last. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!!!

This place has a vast amount of things for children to play on. However don’t expect to get food quick- they have two cage areas but one is never open and the other has a constant huge queue because the staff take forever! Even if you want drinks you have to queue with the food and last time we queued for 25 minutes! Ridiculous when you have children to supervise and feee!

Average food more like a pub, raw onion in the scotch egg bhaji, bang bang cauliflower poor, fish and chips were tiny and fish dry. So over priced for below average food.
