The hotel is huge our room on the ground floor and when I left the room and looked towards reception it reminded me of the film with Idris Elba "Long walk to freedom". My son and daughter in law treated us to a half board stay at the hotel. The dining room was utilitarian being better described as a breakfast room but served the purpose. I was dubious about the menu until I ate it. I chose Thai butternut squash soup and was pleasantly surprised, it was superb. This was followed by a rib eye steak cooked as my wife and I like it. To finish off the meal we ordered ice cream, they delivered three large scoops of ice cream served in a soup dish, amazing. There was no skimping on the breakfast menu with eggs being cooked in full view as required. Unfortunately I was unable to book a room with single beds so they gave us (at no extra cost) a room with a double bed and sofa bed. The place was spotless would I recommend this hotel to others.

After travelling from various parts of the UK, we had booked to eat in the restaurant on the first evening. Only after our insistence was a table set up for us in the restaurant. The meal was appalling. Five soups were sent back as they were lukewarm, appearing some time later not much hotter. This set the tone for the rest of the meal. The one young waiter did his best to deal with, by now, twelve grumpy diners. He received no back up from any management to deal with the situation. Any appetite for dinner for the rest of our stay evaporated, but we can recommend the Golden Fleece at Blackley, just down the motorway. The do-it-yourself breakfasts were not much better, with an inadequate coffee machine and a toaster with a mind of its own. Wanting an early getaway (06:30) on the Monday, I spent twenty minutes at reception attempting to settle my account, but the duty manager could not operate the system in order to give me any breakdown of costs and told me that the posted tariffs meant nothing - they were only "average prices". The regular receptionist came on duty, cast a disinterested eye over the problem and wandered off. I am still waiting for an explanation, although am amount has been debited from my bank account. Overall opinion - overpriced and underwhelming and a resolution never to cross the threshold of another Holiday Inn.

We booked a festive lunch by telephone for 4 on 12th December for a visit on the 16th December. Whilst booking we were told it was hotel policy to pay for all meals upfront( nothing else) which we did. On the 16th a member of the party (we are all Seniors )aged 80 had a touch of the runs and felt ill, so we called the hotel to inform them, we were told there would be no refunds, Hotel Policy,so my wife and I went along without our friends and the meal was good, however after speaking to the reception manager, we tried to book again on the 18th to cover our loss. We were told this wasn’t possible! The General manager also wasn’t prepared to listen fully to my complaint, and could only quote we had agreed to these terms and conditions when booking, which we strenuously deny as we were completely unaware. The manager sarcastically offered us a printed copy of the terms and conditions to take home to view, offered no empathy, I can understand if a large party cancelled and the hotel was busy and lost out, some payment for cancellation would be fair, but the restaurant on our visit was very quiet with only one other couple having lunch? I ordered half a lager, after I had finished this, the waiter asked if I wanted another drink on the house which I refused politely. I cannot understand how we agreed to the terms and conditions without seeing them or having them verbally quoted to us . I mentioned I would report this on facebook to which the manager said it would be slander so I’ll let you make your own mind up. We have previously visited at Christmas lunch time and enjoyed but unfortunately not on this occasion. A&C Blackburn Mirfield

First of all, yes I cancelled and yes, I knew the deposit was non-nonrefundable... I had booked for Mothers Day 2019 back in January. Unfortunately a family member who is a regular at the hotel ate in their restaurant. All their food was sent back and refunded as it was all so bad. When the restaurant called me to confirm the booking 2 weeks prior to Mothers Day I explained I wanted to cancel. "Not a problem, but your refund is non refundable." I did explain that I was cancelling because of such poor feedback but it didn't seem to do much good. I appreciate that deposits are often non refundable and it's my fault for being too organised this year, but it seems a little pedantic. Particularly when I was told the event is really popular so the table will doubtless be re-sold. Perhaps the place isn't that busy after all.... I now wish I just hadn't cancelled and went elsewhere anyway... Never mind Holiday Inn, unfortunately I'll never be able to actually post a review of the food as we'll never go back. I genuinely hope those who do visit for Mother Day have a wonderful day, personally I wasn't prepared to risk it.

Holiday Inn Brighouse advertised on their website a Festive Lunch Menu saying it was available throughout December. My daughter and her family were due to travel up to Brighouse after Christmas so she phoned Holiday Inn to check they were still doing this offer on the 28th December. At the time she phoned no one could give her an answer but Holiday Inn called her back later in the day and confirmed they were still serving the Festive Lunch on the 28th and even offered a slight alteration to the menu for one person attending. Having got confirmation my daughter contacted all other family members to sort out menu choices. As requested by Holiday Inn we phoned following day to give menu choice and pay in full. Imagine how annoyed and upset we were to then be told they had since decided not to open the restaurant on the 28th after all!

My wife and I stopped at this restaurant having been let down elsewhere and having eaten here in the past but not for sometime and things can change; the standard here had not so the quality was still at the same high benchmark. In addition to the varied menu they have specials and when we visited the "Curry of the Week" was Fish Madras with rice, mango chutney and naan bread and one of the day's special starters was Moules Marinière so for once in my life I wasn't agonising over my decision as to what to choose; my wife just had the Chicken Caesar Salad, no starter or dessert but she did 'sample' a little of my Mille Feuille which was awesome. What was really pleasing was that many of the menu items, certainly the 'Specials' were made 'in house' which is something of which I greatly approve, especially in a restaurant in a chain hotel. For the traveller, to have a restaurant of this quality in an hotel of the Holiday Inn class where one may expect a level of service and value which is consistently good within minutes of the motorway is a tremendous bonus for the discerning diner. All tastes are catered for so I doubt anyone would be disappointed. I heartily commend Traders Restaurant to all and next time we are crossing the Pennine in the evening I know where we will dine.

Having stayed at this hotel on 4 occasions now I would have expected some changes given the feedback they receive from myself and my business colleague. Alas no. Checking out last Friday the reception printer wasn't working so bills were being printed to a printer in a back office. It eventually took 15 minutes waiting in reception for the bill to finally arrive. Guess what, this Friday (today, 1 week later), the printer in reception is not working and bills were being sent to a back office printer again. It's not good enough. If you expect wifi in your room it's available free. But don't be fooled that it works. Once logged in it is the worst hotel wifi I have ever come across to the extent that it basically is useless. Paid a lot of money to stay in the hotel and was disappointed with the food in the restaurant at dinner. The medium rare steak I ordered was over cooked whilst my sons medium steak in his mixed grill was almost rare. To top it all, the peppercorn sauce was bland and the chips soggy. The lovely waitress did her best and we received free drinks but it was still a disappointment. Breakfast redeemed it a little. It's not often that I expect to be pleasantly surprised in a chain hotel, these days. But, it seems that Wednesday night is 'Fish Night' here at HI-Brighouse and so from their offering of 4 options I chose a dover; fully expecting that at only fourteen quid, it would be rubbish. So, for less than the price of their house "gourmet-burger" I have received a delightfully fresh and perfectly cooked Dover Sole, with trimmings. What a lovely surprise and they need to be recognised for that... Well Done Holiday Inn Brighouse. I would have given an excellent but their balsamic minted lamb skewers were tasty but were full of gristle and very stringy. Not the best cut of meat - sorry.

Went for Sunday lunch, chose here as it is an easy place to meet family & friends being so close to the M62.We had pre booked. When we got to the restaurant, the waitress walked us towards a table, looked hesitant and took us to another which had insufficient place settings for our party of four. Seemed odd as we had pre booked but within a few minutes additional cutlery was brought over. When we sat down we then waited for about 10 mins before I had to find the waitress to enquire what was happening - not having been previously we didn't know if it was waitress service or help yourself. We were told it was all self service and I enquired if there was a veggie option and she advised that yes there was, it was the pasta bake. There was a good selection of food and the chef at the carvery station could not have been more helpful. Good choice of meats and veg Plus salmon and noodles, a lentil dish and the pasta bake. When I sat down to eat the pasta I noticed what looked like chicken mixed in. My friend and I recalled that the waitress had said it was veggie. Quorn I very realistic nowadays, so I nearly ate some, but having been a veggie for 40 years didn't want to risk it, so went to check with the chef. He told me that it was chicken! The poor man was very apologetic, but to be fair he had only served me what I asked for, the issue was with the earlier misinformation from the waitress. He quickly got me another plate of food, including some veggie gravy and again apologised. Not his fault, but he was very kind and empathetic. The waitress came over and asked if our meals were ok, but she was that quick I didn't have time to stop eating and tell her about the mix up. It felt like a cursory check rather than a sincere enquiry. We struggled to catch anyone's attention when we wanted a drink and one waitress completely blanked my brother, to the point that it appeared rude. So, overall..... Well located, decent food. Poor service. Chef couldn't be nicer. And amazing value, as for 3 courses and coffee it was just £10.95 each. Will go back for the location and the value but sincerely hope the waiting team will have improved next time.

My parents wanted the soup but the tureen was whisked away as another customer complained about it saying it was not hot, then they had to wait 20 mins for fresh soup to be brought out by which time the rest of us had finished our starter. Main course was standard carvery food but the veg could have been hotter. Desserts were disappointing - looked like pre - packed, factory made.

We arrived at holiday inn. Met by a member of staff, a key card given and a coach load of people was quickly dispersed. Our room was spacious, clean, and has a big tv. We have a nice view outside the window too. When we went for dinner, it was a set meal, there was no gluten free menu/choice. Apparently, national holidays did not put this information forward, this I feel is unforgivable. I have to have gluten free for medical reasons. This could be very problematic for some people. The staff at Holiday Inn did their best to sort me some food out. I will be taking this up with national holidays. However, when I looked at Holiday Inns menu, I did not see any foods with a gluten free sign next to it. So I think this issue does need addressing.

Great. Pool looked good too.Overral I'd recommend this hotel.

We had Sunday lunch here yesterday. Food, a carvery, is cheap and plentiful but not particularly special. We had a problem from excessively noisy children in the dining room - so bad that at times we could not hear one another speak - and we were as far away from them as possible.Asking the young waitress to involve the manager achieved nothing and adults in the party, whose total responsibility it was, appeared totally oblivious to the annoyance their children were causing.Consequently this place is now relegated to the bottom of our list for Sunday lunches.

Average food served in an average hotel. Why do restaurants insist in serving food on splinter riddled pieces of wood, are they wanting their customers to choke on wood splinters.

The room was really clean but the bed was extremely uncomfortable. There were about 20 of us staying the same night and we all struggled to sleep as the beds were really hard. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was average, not particularly nice but what you would expect for a buffet breakfast. You do have to pay for wifi unless you join the holiday inn club, which is free.

Very overpriced and badly cooked food. I stay here on business regularly and although the hotel and the service is good, I would not recommend eating here.

This place is a great family value venue. The spa facilities were really good! The kids loved it. The room was big enough to cope with a family of four. The breakfast was great, kids loved the pancake machine! The only minus point was that we had our evening meal in the breakfast area, but I'm guessing that there was a wedding reception on in the resteraunt on this evening,

Just had a wonderful wedding at this hotel . Everything was so perfect & we had no need to worry about a thing. Everything was sorted by the wedding planner & the master of ceremonies . The rooms were transformed from a ceremony to a wedding breakfast in super quick time & then to a disco room at night . All the food was tasty & plentiful and everyone enjoyed it. All the rooms were roomy and nicely decorated . The swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna are superb with lovely views over the valley. Two small problems which are not a major issue but could be considered that the two bars stocked the same sort of drinks because half of our party were in the foyer bar to get the different drinks and so were not in the disco room which made the party room look sparse . Secondly after paying for the best wedding package my daughter didn't get the bridal suite and at first was given a standard room . It was soon rectified though to a room with a balcony. Overall we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to everyone else.

Heard they were now offering a great deal and Indeed £9.75 for 3 courses is a good deal. Its all carvery but you get choice of hot / cold starter....roast ( 2 meat) + vegetarian option....hot / cold dessert. Coffee etc in the price. Well cooked and well presented with nice friendly staff wanting to make it work ! Well done to them . So why only 4 stars ? Well two things are a problem . 1: Wine a basic house white will set you back £6.00 2: They hit you for a 10% Service charge. ! Ok I know you dont have to pay it, you can complain but do you want the trouble when you have all the family there. So if you go ( and I suggest you do ) ...no wine ( or buy it seperate so no sevice charge)

Went with 5 family members on Boxing day to their 12.30 sitting. It was an extremely reasonable price of £16 per head. Starters were a cold, serve-yourself buffet. Nice selection of different seafood, pate, fruit and salad. Some items were a bit difficult to reach though in the server for a short person like me! The main was a carvery. You could choose from beef, turkey, gammon, or a salmon fillet or a veggie option. Loads of beautiful fresh veg and potatoes that you could help yourself to and have as much as you want. Finally the deserts were an all you can eat, serve-yourself, cold buffet options. There was cheesecake, profiteroles, lemon meringue, cheese board and fruit. They were tasty and generous portions but the profiteroles were a bit hard. Tea and coffee were again self-service but included in the price, you could have as much as you want, and there was a wide selection of decaf, herbal and brands to choose from.Drinks were reasonably priced and you get a discount on them if you are a gym member there.Staff were very polite and friendly. They were attentive, quick and unintrusive. An enjoyable meal and will be returning throughout the year for the £10 Sunday lunch which has a very similar format to this meal. Thanks!

. This review is purely on the restaurant /bar areas. Our hotel review is separate. We sat in the bar nightly during our stay and it was very comfortable place to socialise. We ate breakfast daily and ate in the restaurant twiceProsPancake maker at breakfast!!!Plentiful breakfast Service with a smile - all staff were polite and friendlyPoached eggs made to orderBrown seeded baguettes are delicious!Great treats for kids on Halloween - much appreciated ConsThe scrambled eggs were a bit dry every dayNeeded to remind Saturday morning waitress that the yoghurt, compote etc needed refillingHot chocolate wasn't greatSome lights in restaurant (for eves) need bulbs! Too dark in places.Billing- The restaurant waitress one evening was brilliant at sorting our bill. Unfortunately our second visit to the restaurant wasn't so successful with regards to billing. It took about 20mins and a few attempts to get the bill right.......we could have easily been charged 100% more had we not checked properly!TipOn a weekday the hot buffet is shut up at 930 precisely so don't be lateSuggestions to hotelKids meals need veg!Review billing in restaurant Look at lighting in restaurant for eveningsWould we return again? For breakfast yes. For evening meal, maybe.

I stayed here last night and ate here with my colleagues on a work trip. There were about 18 of us. we pre-ordered our food when we checked in and booked our table for 8.00. At 10.00 we were still finishing our desert. The starters were all wrong and they had to retake our orders. One of the deserts was completely frozen - couldn't get a spoon into it and we were told it was supposed to be like that. Staff not interested. I though the whole point of a preorder was to get things through smoothly and quickly. My main of Hunters chicken was not inedible but very dry and disappointing.

We stayed for the weekend while attending a friends wedding locally. Sun, blue skies, rain and wind and great views. Yes we were told this was not unusual weather. But from the minute we arrived the staff at the hotel were great, welcoming, informative , helped me log on with my iPad and just great! The room was excellent, nicely appointed and clean. The restaurant food was very good as we're the waiting staff, we felt at home. Breakfast was equally good and nothing too much trouble for the chef. Many thanks. Overall a very warm Yorkshire welcome and great service. If you are the manager employing and training the staff well done!

We visited on a Sunday where the menu is £8.95 for 3 courses and children eat half price. The staff are very helpful and the choice of food for all 3 courses, especially dessert, is fantastic. Coffees were included too which stretched the meal to 4 courses which I have not seen for this price anywhere else!! Lovely setting for a family meal and the only thing I could find wrong is that the veg could be a little warmer....but overall no complaints from us!

I've been a regular here since it opened having visited with friends, family and my partner and it's one of our favourites in the area. It's dog friendly which is great, sometimes we have struggled to get a seat as it can get really busy but is always worth the wait. We've sampled the full English and some savoury dishes but the real star of the show is their pancakes- absolutely delicious every time! Lastly, their new trailer is great for when we're on our walks and not sitting in.

I had this restaurant booked but 4 days before they e mailed saying they were not opening on a Tuesday. As I had paid a deposit I asked them to return this as I don’t live nearby so would not be able to change the date. They assured me the deposit would be returned in 10 days! 3 weeks later and numerous ignored emails I still have not received my deposit back. Can someone sort this out and return it.

First time to this refurbished eatery and what a pleasant surprise the visit was. Large car park and a very warm welcome from various members of staff on entry. A nice bar area and snug for dining (will try next time) and a separate dining area. All nicely decorated with good view over the valley. An extensive menu and certainly the meals we ordered were freshly cooked and generously proportioned. Prices very reasonable indeed. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely cafe with a good view if you sit upstairs. Not a large selection on menu but what there is is done well. A good size portion of food. Drinks were expensive if you want pop.
