Hogs Back Tap in Guildford

Firstly with a grant the Tap Room has been completely rebuilt, bigger bar, new floor, new furniture, a brilliant refresh. However the best news is that “Danny” the new chef has arrived, a breath of fresh air. He came to the table and spoke with us, he was both professionally very competent and very personable. Things are clearly looking up at the Tap Room. The Pizzas are still great and based on today’s meal with two friends and our dogs, who were very well treated!! We expect great things with an ever evolving menu. Thanks Danny for a great meal, my wife’s butter milk chicken burger was great, and my fish goujon sandwich was amazing both in quantity and value. I can’t believe how many goujons I had in the huge wedges of bread with salad and Tartar sauce, and my request for extra Tartar sauce was happily complied with. A minor suggestion: Please consider the possibility of tying in the delivery of food from the Pizza Oven with the food from the kitchen, especially when the kitchen is not under pressure. The food from the kitchen was very rapidly delivered, and we were nearly finished when our friends Pizzas arrived. All the food was great, it would have been greater if their delivery was coordinated. Based on today’s meals we are certainly going to reinstate our regular Friday Lunch visits. (Especially as Chips are back on the Friday Menu and the Slow Cooked Beef Sandwich has been removed from the menu by the new chef! A great move!!)

Website states that it’s open until till 11pm but we were made to leave at 9:30 as it wasn’t busy enough for them to bother. Extremely frustrating as. We had to pay for a cab home after a night out but only got half the night. Will try elsewhere in future.

Well, what a lovely surprise-as customers of the brewery for years we didn't think it could get any better. But then they built the taproom. Lovely to drink TEA in situ as it doesn't get fresher than that, but the pizzas were a revelation. Better than anything I've had at Pizza Express for years. Nice comfortable place with great views of the hop fields. Couldn't get any better- unless they had hotel rooms!

Great place to spend time. Good beer, fresh as it gets! We had pizzas which were really tasty, good thin crust and toppings. Staff all seemed friendly and best of all they are doggy friendly, they have treats and doggy ice cream. Looking forward to going back to try more of the menu and enjoy a couple more beer.
