We had a really lovely experience at our visit on Saturday evening … really tasty Grapefruit Cocktail, a knowledgeable’ wine man’ called Andy (sorry we didn’t get his last name but he has been with you for about 7 weeks..) .. his story and journey to Hoar Cross was lovely to hear … French onion soup was gorgeous although we did all think the portion size was small. The beef and dumpling were to die for … food absolutely wonderful. This was topped by our waitress called Charlotte (Plumb) .. she was attentive, professional and welcoming but her sparkle of humour was a breath of fresh air and she made us all laugh out loud .. thank you xx

We ecently had the pleasure of dining in the Ballroom at Hoar Cross Hall, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The ambiance of the Ballroom is nothing short of stunning, providing a perfect setting for a memorable evening. The highlight of our dinner was undoubtedly the outstanding service provided by Luis. He was incredibly attentive, ensuring that our every need was met with a smile. His exceptional service truly elevated our dining experience, making it one to remember. The food was exquisite, beautifully presented, and each dish was a delight to the palate. Hoar Cross Hall exceeded all our expectations, and I highly recommend dining here, especially if you're fortunate enough to have Luis as your server. We will definitely be returning!

Really disappointed member at Hoar Cross. The benefits I signed in the original contract have been taken away from some of the members and we were made to sign another contract with new terms and conditions or have our membership cancelled. To make matters worse, one of the managers had threatened me by saying if I ever write a bad review of my experience of being a member at Hoar Cross I ‘would face the consequences’. It is a real same that I find myself having to write this as for too long now our voices have not been heard.

My friends and I were there for an afternoon tea, there were the 3 of us. We were introduced to our servers thier names are Michelle and Maddie, who were very polite, they both had huge smiles which made us smile especially as we were sat next to the window with a beautiful view of the lawns and patio, and whilst we were discussing the view Maddie asked if we wanted to choose our tea, all of the teas smelt lovely, then after giving us plenty of time,we pI ked our tea choice, it was bought very promptly and we didn't have to wait as Michelle started to bring our food. The food look amazing and it tasted as good as it looked, both Michelle had Maddie checked on us periodically and once we had finished the savouries, the cakes arrived with due care, and they did not disappoint. They were so decadent and delicious, and we were asked we wanted any further teas or drinks, we had another tea, but changed our choice, but the ladies made the change faultlessley. We were all very full and satisfied with our food, outstanding service, in a very beautiful place, we ventured out into the grounds and they too, didn't disappoint. Totally without a doubt would recommend Hoar Cross Hall not only for the building, grounds and the exceptional service

We arrived late afternoon, had a very warm welcome and a complementary glass of fizz, we were given our room card and were offered someone help with our bags. Room 426 was our suite, this room was in the main building, it was a very nice suite, the main out look wasn’t the best over looking some flat roofs, and a smaller window over looking a garden, the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was not ideal , there was a constant draft making it really chilly, the hot water was ridiculously dangerously hot with no warning signs! The shower was incredibly difficult to get the water temperature a safe and comfortable to use! There were nice voya products to use. The mirror over the dressing table was too high I could only see the top of my head, but the Dyson hair dryer was great to use. I felt it was quite noisy on the corridor outside the room and there was a quite a bit of light coming through the gaps around the door , I had to put my robe on the floor at the base of the door to block it out, there was also a constant low tone vibration noise in the room too! I’m not quite sure where it was coming from! First treatment was a voya citrus spice ritual , Katherine Shannon was amazing and made me feel totally relaxed ! Gave me some helpful advice too! The second treatment I had was Elemis full body massage by Amber , I was relaxed for hours after! The warm water beds were absolutely amazing to use after the treatments too! There needs to be more though as lots of people were wanting to use them but couldn’t as the beds were all taken! The evening meal, the following day breakfast and lunch was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully, the staff are so friendly and helpful , Issac a young man in the restaurant was so pleasant, polite and helpful , he’s a credit to you! As all your staff are! Finally a shout out to Ian too on reception , he was very understanding with the few issues we had in our room . Looking forward to coming back in the future!

Lovely spa but needs some modernising A lot of the walls/ceilings are peeling Outside the changing room and hot tub, there’s always a massive puddle of stagnant water Could do with an infrared sauna given it has so many of the same saunas, but they’re adding an outdoor spa so seems they’re changing and hopefully will do some modernisation of the older bits after They’ve just added a complimentary aufguss sauna ritual which Hannah takes and is amazing, using scents and towel spinning to spread the heat/aroma - so I hope they keep adding these kinds of things.

Me and my friend stayed here for one night with the spa package. We had a 3 course dinner, breakfast and a 3 course lunch. Cons: Our room looked like it hadn't been hoovered as there were crumbs and a crisp by the bed! The pillows in the room were very lumpy. The cutlery and glasses were dirty, I scraped something off that was stuck on my spoon. The waitress we had at dinner wasn't great as she was quite pushy when offering a side (supplement charge). For breakfast we weren't given a teaspoon to stir our tea. Pros: Room very stylish with decor, lovely size and bathroom lovely too. The room had lots of amenities Loved the eco friendly toiletries. The bed was super comfortable. Staff very friendly! Overall great stay would recommend!

Stayed here at this beautiful hotel with my 3 daughters to celebrate a special birthday. We arrived and all 4 of the disabled spots were full so had to be dropped off whilst they parked a fair walk away. The hotel is stunning, beautiful rooms which were of ample size. Only baths with overhead shower which is difficult to climb in a bath when you have mobility problems. Beds were comfortable but I'm afraid the pillows were not and far too hard. Plenty of tea/ coffee in the room. The food was amazing very Al a carte and beautifully presented and very tasty. Bedrooms were quiet at night no noise in the corridors. Problem at breakfast this morning and not enough staff to clear tables for new people to sit down and eat so people were being asked to wait some time before going in for breakfast. A lovely stay for us all and although certainly not cheap is worth the cost.

Wonderful from start to finish, I’ve been a regular at Hoar Cross for over 20 years but can honestly say this was the best stay ever. Right from the off we had booked lunch in Henry’s with was excellent and very good Value, we were then checking in at reception by the lovely Lindsay who looked after us throughout our stay. The hall has been brought up to date with luxury touches and it obvious to see where the investment has been spent, rooms were excellent spacious and luxurious with little touches such as the toiletries and the luxury coffee machines. Tom and Dan from the waiting staff were amazing explaining menus and recommended wines to accompany our meal. A big thank you also the the behind the scenes staff such as the chefs who prepared our delicious meals with were very tasty and beautifully presented. Lastly thank you to Neelam my therapists who carried out my treatment we had the frangipani body scrub and facial which was amazing and very relaxing can’t wait to come back again xx

The hotel receptionist was very friendly and we were checked in quickly. The suite we were placed in was clean and well laid out. Dinner was an incredible experience with excellent service. This is by no means a budget stay….the reason I have given this fabulous hotel four stars ( would be 4 and a half) is because there were certain ‘hidden extra’ supplements on some items such as vegetables to accompany the dinner. £4 for spring greens I thought was a rather excessive and unnecessary additional cost for example considering the price of an overnight stay. It is understandable that certain more exotic choices may carry a supplement - this should be expected however not basic vegetables in my opinion. The library is a must visit for book lovers - it contains the mirror that inspired Alice Through the Looking Glass and two hidden doors. The spa was great. Top tip for over night visitors - particularly on a busy weekend, would be to get up early before breakfast and make use of the facilities. My husband and I had a good half an hour to use the salt water pool on our own before other guests made an appearance. The cold plunge pool was a fantastic way to wake up. The snooze room was also a wonderful addition. Thank you to all the staff who universally made us feel welcome. We are looking forward to returning.

Absolutely love this place! I visited over 24 years ago and went with an open mind considering the spa had been extended since my original visit. Hoar Cross Hall did not disappoint it’s only gotten better ! Greeted with genuine smiles and welcome drinks on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble by any of the staff. Was able to use the spa facilities as we arrived a little early. Room was a little late in getting ready but not a big deal as there’s plenty to do whilst you wait. When we did get access to our room - WOW! Thank you for such an amazing room! We hit lucky with the weather so was able to enjoy the sun in the lovely gardens. There were plenty of sun loungers and tables and chairs. Didn’t have any trouble around the pool areas, plenty of loungers available. All meals were delicious and the drinks menu is reasonable considering the calibre of hotel. Spa facilities and treatments were just a pure treat! So relaxing! The only downside to our visit was we only booked one night. We will definitely be coming back for another visit for longer . Thanks to Ellie and Libby on reception and all the amazing staff that make you feel relaxed and well catered for. Keep doing what you are doing and look forward to coming back ASAP.

So, it’s been a long while since me and Mrs to be nomad have been well... anywhere other than work (thanks COVID) and being as our nuptials ended up cancelled and rearranged (thanks AGAIN COVID) the better half surprised me with a one night spa break at Hoar Cross hall. Let me start by saying that no matter what you read here, this place is AMAZING and I (we) will definitely be returning. Let’s go through from start to finish...Arrived slightly before the scheduled time and waited in the appropriately socially distanced queue to receive our rather fetching grey wristbands and given an opportunity to confirm our times for lunch and dinner(First point - we had requested times when we booked but these hadn’t carried over for some reason, no problem, times available and places booked)Then it was off to the Spa.Now bear in mind, that this is post lockdown, so unfortunately the saunas and steam rooms were not available due to current government guidance, but this did not detract from the rest of the available facilities.(apparently I’m not allowed a ice cold plunge pool at home because it is 1) unnecessaryB) expensiveAnd iii) would annoy the downstairs neighbours when I cut a hole in their ceilingShame)The hotel room was lovely (although the closest lift was boarded up so it was a case of trekking up and down three flights of stairs until we found the secret OTHER lift that was cunningly... right next to reception.Well stocked with some complimentary Elemis toiletries, a bed that just seems to cocoon you in softness and some comfy chairs.I loved the throwback to the 70s with the old rotary dial phone.Standard tea and coffee making facilities completed a very nice hotel room. Now this is where it starts to get... amusing, and let me reiterate everyone, I have EVERY intention of returning to Hoar CrossLunch was served in Hugo’s, the restaurant attached to the spa section of the hotel, and I can highly recommend the chicken Caesar salad if it is available when your stay takes place. It was divine.Dinner is where the amusement really started, and in some respects it was a comedy of errors, but none of it detracted from our enjoyment of our stay.We turned up at our appointed time (side note, we asked to change our reservation time and this was done with absolutely no issue whatsoever)We were seated relatively quickly and this our drinks order was taken... a bottle of waterStarters and main course ordered we sat and waited, and waitedAnd waitedAnd waitedOh dear.....Now every single member of staff in that dining room was working , and they were working HARD. Catching someone’s eye as they bustled past was difficult, so i considered breaking out the lasso to make it easierEventually managed to grab someone and re-request our bottle of water. Well, I say grab, it was more like she brought our starters over (an hour after we were seated) and we (well I) hinted with the subtlety of a house brick about the water. And behold, it appeared. As you may have guessed from my comments about the Caesar salad that I... devoured at lunch, there is no way on this earth that I can fault the quality of the food.A carrot and coriander soup that was a perfect texture and flavours followed by a steak cooked exactly how I requested with chips chunky enough to be used as bricks on a house building project that were the exact right amount of crispy outside and fluffy inside. And then desert.OhMyGOODNESS GRACIOUS MEIf they had just served me that desert for each course I would have gone away a very happy man.It was (dammit, I’ve already used divine... and amazing, where’s the thesaurus?)Heavenly, there we go, I haven’t used that one!Overall, it was a massively positive experience, the only detractions were1) service speed I did have a conversation with the manager about this (his fault, he walked past in range of my lasso.) and to reiterate a theme THANKS COVID New procedures that have had to be put in place are still being ironed out and they had only been open 4 days at the time of our stay, so there are abound to be some kinks in the process)2) drinks prices Yes, you expect to pay a premium for drinks at hotels, but £3.50 for a bog standard cup of tea I think is taking the mick. As is £3.90 for a small bottle of coke3) Spoongate I think I have uncovered a conspiracy relating to the supply and demand of spoons. I had to ask for one for my latte, for my soup and for my desert.Once again, facilities - brilliant, staff - stupendous (Dylan, you’re awesome, sorry for being a pain), recommended - god yes

I went for a mother/daughter spa stay at Hoar Cross Hall in March. We arrived and luckily there wasn’t a queue to check-in, so we were shown to our room right away. The room was lovely. Modern, tidy, clean and cosy. It was also well equipped with tea/coffee facilities, a flat screen TV, Dyson hairdryer and Elemis toiletries. It is worth nothing that the hotel rooms are a little bit of a walk from the main reception and then another walk to the spa facilities. If you’re not very mobile then inform the hotel at the time of booking and hopefully they can accommodate you in a room closer to reception. We spent the day making full use of the spa facilities, there were lots of different treatment rooms to choose from and even a sauna in the ladies changing rooms in case you wanted a ladies only sauna. I made use of the gym also and had a quick run on the treadmill before dinner. There were lots of cleaning products out to wipe down surfaces before and after using any equipment. The gym is fairly small but I didn’t struggle to get on a machine and it wasn’t too busy. That evening we had a beautiful three-course dinner which was included in our package. A few options to choose from for each course, everything was well represented, good portion sizes and tasted lovely, we had a brilliant evening. The following morning we had a buffet breakfast, again lots to choose from so you certainly won’t go hungry. The quality of food was good and you can have as much as you like.We spent the rest of the day in the spa again and enjoyed a walk around the beautiful grounds. There are also tennis courts available to use as well as a number of exercise classes throughout the day.We had lunch before we left, again I can’t fault the food. Lots to choose from and overall great quality food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all included in our package and we were very pleased with everything. The only small niggle was the fact our room didn’t have a shower mat, my mum fell over in the shower on the second morning, luckily nothing too serious but a slightly sore knee. Unfortunately, the on-duty manager wasn’t too sympathetic when we informed her on check-out.

I stayed at Hoar Cross on 29th Feb for two nights. I've been to Eden Hall for the day several times and had high expectations. I have to say we were really disappointed and the experience in no way lived up to the cost (around £1000) for the two nights including drinks and treatments. - On arrival we had to queue for 25 minutes just to check in. Of the 5 available desks at reception, only two were occupied and everyone was checking in and out at the same time. More staff needed. Really disappointing start to a relaxing weekend. - When our room was serviced, our robes were removed and not replaced (they were hung up and dry, we were happy to keep them) meaning we had to dress to go down to the spa and collect new robes - removing the luxury of being able to go straight down to the spa and wasting time- each time we arrived at breakfast we had to wait for a table - there were plenty of tables empty, just insufficient staff to clear and lay them- every day at breakfast we had to ask to order tea and coffee, we then had to ask for sugar and milk, we had to ask for tea spoons. This should all be provided as standard. More and better trained staff needed. - each day at lunch despite arriving at the time requested, there were no tables ready. Just like at breakfast, tables were free, but not enough staff there to lay them. - we had to ask for water each lunch time too, at least twice. - by contrast, the service at dinner was excellent and attentive but breakfast and lunch was frustratingly bad and slow- the general repair of the hotel and spa was not the standard we'd expect of a luxury property. Peeling paint, chipped tiles, ripped wallpaper, scuffs and wear and tear everywhere. Just felt like none of the money guests are spending there is invested in the upkeep of the place. Really shoddy. After multiple first class experiences of Eden Hall we expected more. Hoar Cross hall really lets the Barons Eden group down. I'm really disappointed as we booked this to celebrate my birthday and I feel like we wasted our money.

We went to Hoar Cross for a spa day and really enjoyed it. It was busy but there’s plenty to do so it didn’t seem too crowded. Great facilities with something for everyone. The 3 course lunch was very nice and there was lots of it! The massage and facial were so relaxing. Will definitely be back. I would recommend booking all treatments in advance as on the day there was no availability to book additional treatments because they were full.

Stayed over for the weekend as a Christmas present to my wife. The service couldn't have been better. The food excellent and the accommodation perfect for us. The spa has been updated since I last visited a couple of years ago and is very relaxing. Storm Dennis caused some disruption, when some of the therapists struggled to get in. Management worked really hard to make thing right in a situation out of their control. Very impressed.

We have been eating here for several years now, being members of the health club. Initially, the quality of food and service was abysmal. However, I’m delighted to say that, under the new leadership of Chef, Tom Biddle, and Claire Kreigenfeld, the Food & Beverage Manager, everything has improved beyond measure. The quality of the food is outstanding. An imaginative, well-executed menu which actually delivers on promises made. Service which is just excellent, with staff who appear to actually care that you have a good time. Topped with a very nice wine menu. We found ourselves wondering why we don’t eat here more often! Rather than just eating here whenever we stay, we now plan to visit purely for the restaurant. We already have a future booking in place and cannot wait.

I love this place. We stayed here back in 2016 and I had been looking forward to coming back ever since. For a 1 night stay with full spa access and evening meal, breakfast and 3 course lunch it's around £440.The room we stated in 2016 was beautiful, the room this time round was underwhelming, none of the lamps worked, the remote for the tv also didnt work, the jacuzzi bath also didnt work, so I decided to call down to reception and unfortunately.... the phone didnt work. At the time I thought we were on candid camera.Reception were great though, the hotel was full and they refunded the upgrade price I paid as none of the upgrades worked, which was fair...The spa is great, loads of rooms and areas you can relax and unwind, it was very busy so a couple of times you walked in to a steam room only to walk back out.All in all a good stay, although part of me wished we had kept the flawless memories of 2016....

I’d read a mixture of great and very poor reviews prior to our stay, so was slightly apprehensive of what to expect, but overall it was a fantastic break. We got a great deal off Secret Escapes which included 3 course dinner, breakfast, lunch and use of the spa. We checked in very quickly and were given all the info we needed, included a map (which is very advisable). Our room was refurbished apart from a dodgy carpet and out of place wardrobe that didn’t suit the rest of the decor. The bed was huge and bathroom very well refurbed. There were a couple of minor issues in the room - wardrobe door broken (hinged had come off), the smoke alarm didn’t have a cover so looked unsightly and there were hairs on the robes, in the shower and quite thick dust on the towel radiator. These were all things we didn’t seem the need to complain about and just mentioned them when we left. One thing that did slightly irk us was that there was no hand soap or body wash. On the way to dinner we asked and the chap on reception said there was none in the whole hotel - I think hand soap is pretty integral and not something you’d think to bring so this is definitely something they need to sort out ASAP. We borrowed some from a communal bathroom for the rest of the stay. Onto the really positive points...Dinner was fantastic. We were given the time we’d requested on email and the service was excellent. Our 3 courses were all very good and we were stuffed afterwards. Breakfast the next morning was also excellent and we were first at breakfast so had the pick of the choice. Lunch on the day of departure was a real surprise - another 3 course meal. We used the spa on both days and really really loved it. It was busy, but we could access all the areas and had a lovely relax on the chill beds. It was clean and well cared for with water available at all times and plenty of towels and extra robes.

Despite twice asking for somebody to let me know what the veggie option was for the afternoon tea (once by email, once by phone call), nobody responded. I had booked through another website, and after booking needed to add an extra person on to the booking, making it five, not four. I specifically asked for a confirmation of this, as it was a bit vague when I called. Luckily I had this when we arrived! There was some discussion when we arrived, and it was obvious there was a problem (would have been nice not to see the annoyance of who I presume was the manager). Apparently the reservations department had not passed the message on, so we were told that they would have to add an extra chair, but the tables were quite small. On the website, it was said that the tea would be in the Long Gallery, but this is not the case, and it is held in the library, which is a lot smaller. A table was quickly laid for us in the Long Gallery. This might be picky, but we went on the 23rd December, for "Festive Afternoon Tea", but the music playing was just generic music. It was a present for my 82 year old mum, and I had taken my daughters, and to be honest, we all felt a bit let down by it all. The food was nice, and we struggled to finish the scones and fancies, as there were plenty. I understand it is a spa, but it was a bit odd being the only ones not in robes too! We had a young waitress with curly blonde hair who was lovely, but we will not be going back next year - shame, but we will be finding somewhere else, and spending our £125 somewhere a bit more festive and organised!

The queue on arrival was quite frankly ridiculous and then to expect us to queue again to check out despite having nothing to pay Is ludicrous. The lady on reception on checking out was rude and abrupt telling us we had to queue as we should have checked out at 5.30! We were actually not told this and we were advised by the coffee shop staff that we could enjoy a coffee in the bar upstairs which we did. The spa was gorgeous with lots of nice pools , aromatherapy room did not smell of anything and menthol in the steam room would have been a nice addition. The spa areas are not well sign posted. No slippers are given and no advice to bring own sandals/flip flops so we spent the day bare foot! Not ideal for health and safety especially in Hugo’s where glasses could easily be smashed. Food in Hugo’s was delicious. The ‘welcome’ drink was water or elderflower juice - I do think for £99 each a glass of Buck’s Fizz or prosecco would be more of a ‘welcome’!??

We (11 of us) came for a friends 40th birthday. Firstly, the spa itself was lovely. You are supplied with a robe, towel and locker, but you have to pay for slippers/flip flops so make sure you take your own. The facilities are very clean and we loved working our way through the Nordic heat and ice rooms. The reception staff were friendly as were the staff in the little coffee shop (can’t remember the name, but it’s in the spa reception).

My friend and I go to Hoar Cross Hall every November for a pre Christmas treat. The day is always brilliant with lots of activities available to fill the day. We mainly spend the morning in the jacuzzi and saunas and then the afternoon for treatments and shopping. The food is absolutely gorgeous with lots of choice. We found the shop to be well stocked this year in comparison to previous years when they had ran out of some items. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Our facial treatments were very relaxing and tailored to our requirements. Can’t wait to go again next year for our 10th consecutive year.

Overall we had a lovely day, but it was a real mixed bag in terms of customer service - either excellent or ‘couldn’t be bothered’. It was a similar picture with the facilities; some areas were modern and well kept, but the two pool areas need some TLC. A lovely day and a stunning setting.

We visited today for afternoon tea and we were sadly disappointed. The service was extremely slow and the staff were inattentive and distracted. My teacup had lipstick on it. When the sandwiches finally arrived we were surprised by the portion size, certainly not generous and nothing special. We had to ask for more cream for our scones as only one tiny pot was provided for 3 people. Very poor compared to afternoon tea at other comparable establishments. I wouldn’t return.

Went with a friend to unwind and was left feeling as if I was afloat for the next few days after we left. They have great facilities including different pools, jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, salt room, aromatherapy, relaxation room, a gym and you can sign up for cycling around the grounds and some archery. Facilities are clean and there’s always water dotted about in different places. I also had a massage, which was perfect as you have a chat before of what you need from the session and they can point you to some products they sell without being pushy. The hotel room itself was designed well, it was really warm so we just kept the windows open the whole time. The food was tasty, but the only downside was the slow service.

Came here for a birthday gift and went home more stressed out than when I arrived. Poor communication from greeting staff, faulty lockers, people talking loud and giggling in quiet zones. The massage was uninspired, it was as if it was too much trouble to deliver a good massage. Very disappointed with the lunch as it seemed like it was in a school hall, I’ve had better meals at a travel lodge. We tried to raise our concerns with the reception staff who were very rude and dismissive, we then asked to see the duty manager who promised us a free spa day, she promised she would contact us a few days later but after a week has gone by she still hasn’t bothered making contact. Says it all about the ethos of this establishment. Very disappointed. We will not be returning.

I’ve been visiting Hoar Cross for the last 11 years but this week I visited with 5 friends who had never been before. The new refurbishments of the rooms were fantastic - clean, sharp and the dyson hairdryer a real added luxury. The spa was amazing with lots of places to sit and relax and unwind. Evening meal was ok but our time was 8pm and the restaurant had ran out of a few things which was disappointing. The waiter justin was Very abrupt but almost comical in his manner - this needs addressing. In fact, the next day lunch surpassed the evening dinner which was fantastic. Visited recently with some work colleagues and had a fantastic time. The spa has lots of facilities, you really are spoilt for choice. We had a 3 course lunch in the restaurant which was really nice, plenty of choice. I booked a 25 minute treatment - shoulder, neck and scalp massage. I wasn't made aware that the 25 minutes includes your consultation, getting ready etc. and this was the only disappointment so in hindsight I would have booked 55 mins. Will definitely be back!

Paid for an overnight spa package with two treatments, came to around £450, but absolutely worth the money. Hotel is set an a stunning ground which makes you feel very classy staying there alone. Room was comfortable and came equipped with a good hair dryer for the mrs and your normal amenities you would expect from a hotel. Shower was brilliant and the bed was comfortable, only downside that the rooms get stuffy in the summer months due to not much ventilation. Went for drinks at the bar which were lovely albeit a bit pricey, then had a 3 course meal with a bottle of wine. The food was simply magnificent, the small choice on the menu means they focus on the meal you choose with great detail. I chose the local steak which came with a surcharge and although delicious, felt like a pub steak. Asked for rare but unfortunately the steak was so thin it was nearly impossible for the chefs to do this, so as a recommendation I would avoid this and pick the fillet if you are after steak. The spa itself is probably the best I've ever been to and had plenty to do and lots of areas to relax in. The only bad points I would pick up on were that some of the facilities, namely the body jets room which had a semi rusty steel pipe through the middle of it which made the room feel a bit tacky, and the aromatherapy room, which simply didn't smell of anything at all and we completed the fire and ice part of the spa with slight disappointment. Nevertheless the whole experience is a classy affair and I would recommend it to anyone, particularly the massages given which were brilliant as well as the facials. With this hotel, the more you invest into it, the more you will get out of it, so don't be stingy on money. As a further recommendation to all, try your best to pick a mid week break if it is for a special occasion, as the weekends are often full of louder hen parties and there are more guests in general, which can give the impression that things are rushed. 4.5/5 for me, just minor improvements to bring it up to perfect!

I must start by noting this is the only spa my husband and I have ever visited so cannot compare to others. We booked an overnight stay for our wedding anniversary and were upgraded to a suite which was huge with it's own lounge and terrace, it was slightly frayed around the edges but the bed was super comfy, the pillows were amazing and the complimentary Elemis toiletries appreciated, they do need to improve the showers as the over bath shower was rubbish. Our package included dinner and breakfast, full use of the spa facilities and lunch during our time in the spa. The bar and restaurant area are lovely and the grounds are beautiful and quiet. The three course dinner was delicious, note you pay extra for Steak, the trio of puddings amazing, breakfast was also fantastic, loved the pancake machine and the freshly cooked eggs in particular. If you order room service from Henry's there is a tray charge but we did not find the bar prices overly unreasonable so didn't mind too much. Spa facilities are varied an brilliant, we both had a treatment too which was great and lunch in the spa was also fab. Hubby and I partook in Archery before we left which was good fun. Really hope we get the chance to go again soon!

I was given two Serene Spa day vouchers as well as additional gift vouchers as a leaving present. I rang to book a spa day and treatments for my daughter and myself. The staff on the ‘phones were most helpful and guided me through the booking process and suggested weekdays would be quieter than the weekend. We booked a Thursday. We arrived at 8.30am and received a warm welcome. After completing a medical form we were booked in and given a map and robes and towels together with the times of our treatments and lunch. They arranged our treatments for the same times. We both had a skin solutions facial with Elemis products and it was incredibly relaxing. At the end of the treatment we received a personalised treatment plan showing which products were recommended. We then went into the Sanctum and just laid down on the beds and relaxed, practically fell asleep. Lunch was three courses and was delicious. We then made use of the hydrotherapy pool and salt water vitality pool. At 4pm it was time for my deluxe pedicure and my daughter’s harmonising full body massage. Again both treatments were fabulous. We made use of the relaxation area until the polish on my toes dried (takes 45 mins but were happy to just chill out whilst it dried). We had no desire to leave!

Very poor meal, Ham salad looked like someone put a bag of lettuce from the supermarket and a bit of very cheap ham. Bread roll inedible. When I mentioned to server, got a blank look and “do you want another roll” No I wanted a decent ham salad. Clearly no qualified chef or staff with any responsibility. Don’t bother eating here. Waste of money.

We visited Willows (previously Tutbury Tearooms) for lunch. There was a good selection of meals, snacks and drinks on the menu, although there didn’t seem to be a children’s menu. The cafe was comfortable and nicely decorated. The food was nice, but very expensive. £9.75 for a jacket potato with cheese (plus £1.50 for each additional topping) is far too much!!! My son had two potato waffles with grated cheese and baked beans, which cost £9.99!!! We left feeling negative due to this and are unlikely to return.

Being back in Burton for another pub crawl we thought we would look this place up again for probably the last time as it is due to close at the end of October in an act of complete vandalism by Molson Coors, showing a total lack of respect for brewing history by planning to redevelop the site for offices. Have these people no morals or respect? Clearly not. As for the tap room and restaurant itself, it’s a fairly sterile corporate affair but at least the hanging pub signs in the restaurant section does try and give it a bit of character. And in my experience the bar staff serving behind the bar have always given the impression that they are suffering for their profession and would rather be somewhere else. Although cannot comment on the food as we have never eaten here and again were only here for the tap bar bit, but can certainly pass judgement on the ale and in that respect the beer was very good, but then you would expect it to be as it is the official tap bar for the Heritage Brewery, embedded in the National Brewery Centre next door, and they don’t have to travel very far. The Tap bar has six hand pumps and for our visit these were dispensing the Heritage Brewery Masterpiece IPA, Heritage Gold, Charrington IPA and Oatmeal Stout as well as Draught Bass and Elgood black dog on as a guest. I went for the Oatmeal Stout. It is not one of the best tap rooms I have ever visited, but it is probably one of the most famous, so I will be very sad to see it go, if this act of vandalism is allowed to proceed by the local council and the local MP. If it is then the very soul of Burton on Trent will go with it.
