The hotel itself is lovely - the staff, facilities, location, rooms, breakfast - i can't fault any of it. The restaurant however, is an embarrassment. Think Wetherspoons, but with worse customer service and meals at three times the price. We were sat at our table by the person on the front desk, which was all a bit flustered. A couple were also seated close to us. We took our order and the food eventually came which was just crap. It was crap. I can't even be bothered to go in to it it was that poor and boring. The waitresses were polite enough, i think their lacklustre approach is more a result of 0 training, they seemed confused and at a loss as to what to do with themselves. The couple on the table near to us did not have their order until after we had paid... that was awkward. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, giving little option for dinner locations and it's all too easy to stay on site. Order a dominoes.

The restaurant is very modern and clean. We arrived after booking and were shown to our table. We advised that we had a gift voucher but the restaurant manager didn't understand what was included. We had to ask for a jug of water and remind them after the 1st course. It was warm when it arrived as they were stored on a table in the middle of the restaurant. My wife chose ham egg and chips. She asked for vinegar which when it arrived was balsamic vinegar. When we asked for the bill but when it arrived there was no allowance for the voucher and the waitress didn't know what to do.Eventually we got the adjusted bill. The waitresses were very pleasant throughout but had obviously had no training and not what you expect in a 5 star hotel restaurant

Just back from teaching in SBA Episkopi and attending Remembrance Sunday. Wanted to have a few days of self-time and some rest. The restaurant was busy because of a football tournament, therefore Reception has already recommended booking first. It has a moderate a la carte menu of both healthy and not-so-healthy food, so I thought I would have healthy vegetarian mains both evenings, and they were very well executed and tasty. The three course meals each night was relaxing, filling, and served with very friendly staff who addressed me by name - not many hotel restaurant would take that much detail. The same happened in breakfast which has some really nice flavoursome bacon, sausage, and a moderately spiced black pudding which are all very nice. Love to come back, and may also ask about conference facilities for one of my affiliated organisations.

This is a lovely hotel, but it's let down by the food (at least in the evening). We ate in the bar and the service was pretty dire. We were ignored when we came in and then when we queried one of the items (a so-called platter of bread, which was supposed to come with pesto and balsamic, but had come just with butter), the waitress was really dismissive and treated us if we were asking for something extra! The bread was hard and impossible to eat. We complained and were given some rolls, but surely the item should have been taken off the bill? It was appallingly over priced, and not at all nice. There weren't many healthy options on the menu which was a shame and the service continued to be slow throughout. We ordered a pizza which was utterly tasteless. I don't know how that was possible, but it was. It may have been the tomato sauce on it, but really it was such a disappointment. This lets the hotel down in my opinion. We didn't stay for dessert

I had booked afternoon tea for 6 of us for my mum and her best friends birthday. We had been back in May for afternoon tea and were impressed so thought we'd come back. We arrived at 2.15 to be told our table wasn't ready and to wait in the bar and they would come and get us. We were booked for 2.30 but there was only two tables in the restaurant with couples having afternoon tea. Just after half two we were directed to our table and told that due to the birthdays we were entitled to a glass of champagne which was a lovely touch. The lady left the box of teas at the top and said choose which you would want. Luckily we had been before so knew we could open and smell the teas if we wanted to etc. The serving players came out with the sandwiches and cakes ok and we were informed the scones would be bought out when we wanted them. We were waiting for an explanation of the sandwiches and cakes but nothing so we started to tuck in!! All three servings of us had different sandwiches none were the same. The bread was dry and crusts left on. The salmon was tinned and cheap and nasty. The egg mayonnaise was just egg white that must have been left over from breakfast. There was a cheese coleslaw which tasted disgusting. A bacon and onion mayonnaise which was clearly a sandwich filler! After about twenty minutes we were finally asked if we wanted to order our teas. We order our teas and eventually after another ten minutes or so our tea finally came. Considering there was only three tables in the restaurant they were struggling to cope. The restaurant must have a huge problem with flies as there was flies all around and landing on the food. We witnessed what was possibly a manager telling a waiter to put his sleeve down as his tattoo was on show not something I would have thought would have been done in public!! I go to eat the remaining sandwich before tucking into the cakes that looked lovely and I find a huge sticker on the bottom of one of the sandwiches, this made me aware that the sandwiches were pre prepared and bought in. I laughed about it to the waitress after eventually gaining someone's attention but still this label was bigger than the sandwich so would have easily have been seen when presenting the sandwiches. The young waitress who was very apologetic and was laughing about it said she's bring us some more sandwiches out to apologise. She bought us our six smoked salmon sandwiches on stale bread. Great if you like smoked salmon but two of us didn't!!! Why were we not given smoked salmon sandwiches first time round?! When we went back in may the sandwiches had by far a much better filling than these cheap and nasty ones we witnessed this time. The cakes had once again been changed and must have been cheaper as the standard and the quality just wasn't the same as in May. The scones were the only good thing as they were warm. The waitress bought out to chocolate tarts with happy birthday in for the birthday girls, which was a lovely gesture.but we found ourselves checking everything for labels!! We finished our pots of tea and wasn't asked if we'd like anymore. The waiter who had served us earlier had vanished and we had a different waitress who told us you only get one pot of tea no refills. So as two of the group had traveled from Sheffield we said we'd have a drink in the bar if we couldn't have another pot of tea. So we got the bill and she said they had took a afternoon tea of and only charged us for five. Great to be proactive but unfortunately this experience has put us off coming back. I wouldn't have paid £35 for packaged sandwiches and stale bread. Pre bought cakes with the only fresh thing I hope being the scones.Such a shame as the hotel and surroundings are lovely, and we did call it a nice hidden gem but not anymore. You can get a lot nicer afternoon teas in burton and Derby. Such a shame, however the young waitress who we dealt with first was very jolly and helpful! Shame about the flies, pre packed sandwiches with stickers on and the lack of fillings!

Note: Following a negative review about the Hilton at St George's Park, I was invited back to see if things had improved. Here is my review. As previously noted in my other review, the Hilton complex at St George's Park is absolutely huge. Down a long drive in the middle of the countryside, you will find the modern, but grand, Hilton Hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly handshake and welcoming smile of Paz, our host. We were seated on the terrace, overlooking the surrounding scenic countryside. Advising that I was gluten intolerant, Paz let us know about what treats we would be having to eat, and within five minutes, our afternoon tea stands were brought out, along with beverages. The host also kindly offered to take our photo!Moving onto the food - what a great improvement! On the previous visit, the waitress had forgotten about my gluten intolerance, and brought out four normal scones. Later I was given a muffin. Not today, though! Out came two warmed gluten-free scones, served with jam and clotted cream. I've got to say, they were incredibly tasty! Also on the stand was a variety of afternoon classics, such as salmon sandwiches, ham and mustard, and cucumber - all went down a treat. A deliciously moist slice of carrot cake, chocolate brownies, and two cupcakes, also. I'm glad we got bags to take the leftovers home!Hats off for the service - another wonderful improvement. Both Paz and the other waiter that served us were incredibly polite, courteous, and attentive - thank you both. From start to finish, this trip has more than made up for the previous visit. It was evident that they had taken the advice on board, and made necessary improvements. It was a top quality afternoon tea experience, exceeding the standards you would expect from a chain such as Hilton. Both myself and my Mum thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and I'm glad to say that I will now definitely recommend, and will definitely return.

Ate here during a 2-night stay with colleagues. We booked a table for 8 o'clock but it took an absolute age to get our food. The restaurant was reasonably busy although not fully opened up so not exactly packed to the rafters.Starters took almost an hour to arrive - most of them were soup! Those that didn't order starters had to endure an extraordinarily long wait so that mains came out together - after all that's the point of booking a table together! My main was ok but nothing special. It arrived at after 10pm so 2 hours after sitting down. I didn't actually get the second course of my set menu as I'd given up the ghost and went to my room after eating so ended up effectively paying over the odds for an average plate of food.Staff were extremely apologetic if not somewhat embarrassed by the ineptitude of kitchen staff. The restaurant manager brought extra drinks and wine out to compensate - which was ok but we were all starving and would have preferred just to eat within a reasonable time.I love SGP and stay several times a year but despite the quality and standard of the hotel it always finds a way to let itself down. No doubt the usually defensive hotel manager will try and find a way to justify the issue but the service from the kitchen was awful and led to tables of people waiting hours to eat which can't really be defended. The experience at the restaurant was disappointing Hope things have improved by the next time I stay - or I'll just stick to room service as that is usually excellent!

As a pre-birthday treat, my Mum took me to The Hilton at St George's Park for afternoon tea. On arrival, the complex is huge, and looks alright, with the large open reception lobby. We headed round for the restaurant, which had only one table of diners on a Sunday at 3:30pm, on a Bank Holiday weekend... Not a good sign. We were seated in the very corner of the room, right behind the other diners (which seemed ridiculous, considering the size of the restaurant). Behind me was a very messy till area with rubbish on the floor, and menus just chucked on the table.I had informed the waitress that I was gluten free, and she confirmed that the chef would be making alternatives for me, which was great. The tea was delicious. When the sandwiches and cakes arrived, they were presented on what can only be described as grotty, dusty, brown drawers (see picture). They didn't look like the cleanest of things, and far from the usual ceramic or metal serving stands you would expect to find at afternoon tea.In terms of the food, there were no egg mayonnaise, smoked salmon and cream cheese, or tuna and cucumber to be seen. Unfortunately it was cheap ham and salad, or cheap cheese and pickle. With crusts left on.Ten minutes later, we were served four scones, and the waitress left again, not letting us know which two were the gluten free options. I had jam and clotted cream on my brown serving drawer, so knew that two of them had to be gluten free. As this restaurant was completely desolate, it took another ten minutes to flag down a different waiter (literally, the place was empty, and completely lacking any remnant of atmosphere!). This waiter left, and our original waitress came back to say that they do not offer gluten free scones...Afternoon tea without scones is just tea and cake, in my opinion. I was instead served two chocolate chip muffins, a far cry from the scones with clotted cream and jam I was hoping for. Why put jam and cream on the gluten free platter if they don't have the scones to go with them? Strange.Food, drink, and service aside, there was a huge issue that both myself, my Mum, and the other table of lonely diners took annoyance with - the restaurant seems to have a problem with flies. They were hovering around the food, landing on us, buzzing around all over the place. For an establishment like the Hilton to have so many flies annoying everyone is a real disappointment. Maybe I should tone down the aftershave as well. Our waitress was nice, but the other staff didn't look like they wanted to be there. I had to shout over to a waiter the other side of the restaurant to ask for the bill as nobody had come over in a long while. We paid, and we left, and we will not be returning. This restaurant has so much potential, it's just a shame that they don't really seemed too bothered to want to meet it.

Visited on a Sunday for afternoon tea. Picked this location over quite a few as the website and photos looked great. Arrived at the restaurant with only two other diners seated, was greeted by a waitress within 5 minutes and ordered our tea. Cakes and sandwiches arrived but they were just 'plonked' on the table with no explanation. We were given jam and clotted cream but were curious as to where our scones were, had to work out for ourselves that they were being warmed up and coming out to us later. Waitresses busy setting up dinner service but had no interaction with us at all, no smiles, no 'check ins'. Had to ask for the bill after some time of waiting and no plates being cleared. Bill arrived but no one came over to check that we were paying by card. Had to go up and pay, no goodbye from any other staff member as we left. The cakes were lovely and so was the view but the service was absolutely terrible, for an establishment like this I expected so much better!

I took a trip to Alton Towers on Friday and stayed here in the evening as it’s only about 40 mins away, absolutely perfect!I was very impressed with the Hotel, the staff and rooms are top level, very modern and clean. The Spa is great too, the changing rooms, pool, sauna, steam, jacuzzi are all really nice and clean, it was really nice to relax in the Spa before we started our long journey home. They have some really great facilities here for the England football teams and it’s really interesting to see the high quality pitches and a few players in and around the hotel. The breakfast in the restaurant was actually really good and there was a nice buzz in the morning with friendly staff and lovely food. The massive BUT is that we ate in the restaurant on the Friday evening which was a colossal mistake. I don’t know where to start, it was absolutely awful!!! Firstly the food is absolutely insanely over priced, I eat out in London very regularly and on the surface I didn’t think the price was too far off the mark, however the standard of the food when it arrived was WAY off point! The food wasn’t really much better than a pub food chain and the prices reflect a reasonably nice restaurant. The burgers are £18 a piece which is fine if the standard is good but they really weren’t, it was below average. I can cook better homemade burgers which is really disappointing when they are charging top money. The price aside, once we had finished our main course the plates sat on the table for over half an hour before they got cleared away. We also ordered two more drinks during dinner and they never arrived but they were on the bill, then to top it all off, one of the waitress’ came over to the table looked at the bill with a credit card on top on the table and said “Do you want deserts?” …Well not really love no… because we’ve asked for the bill and have already been sitting here for 45mins with no drinks!!! Then she walked off without taking payment and never returned! It was an absolutely shambles, it honestly felt like Faulty Towers. The restaurant was almost empty and the atmosphere was tragic, because of this we didn’t even bother having a drink in the bar after, we just went back to the room and watched TV (which is very rare for us).

The restaurant lacked atmosphere and was very cold to the point where it took the rest of the evening to warm up again. Staff attempted to resolve the problem, unsuccessfully. The food was disappointing, little meringue in the Eaton Mess, paper in one, it took a long time to be served with basics (rolls, water, salt) All in all a disappointing chilly evening.

The hotel is of a very high standard in the architecture department and the internal layout but acres of waste space!. Not very homely or comfortable but no doubt perfect for the business user. The coffee and light lunch tea etc was extremely good and of a very high standard - lunch was full of flavour and the coffe was excellent (Make?). Comment from a guest staying a few days was the rooms average to good but small. No doubt expensive (3rd hand). All in all a great place to stay if pockets allow and it is for a business type stay.

Expected quite a lot from the food at this Hotel, however left rather underwhelmed. We decided on dinner in the restaurant as we had arrived quite late having had a long tiring drive up from the Southwest. Firstly the wine list had a very poor choice and stock. No Rioja, so offered an alternative which quite frankly was cheap and nasty. The staff did do their best to find us something palatable, in the end, giving us free drink voucher for the bar.We both had Sea Bass, my partners arrived with the sauce tasting very burnt and had to be sent back. Not exactly impressed. Not really Hilton Standards here.Ps. Maybe someone could teach the Chef the difference between Shrimp and Prawns!!

First time dining at the hotel, and it's was far from good sadly...The not so good things:-Waitress seemed inexperienced, didn't engage with the group at all. She also forgot one of the mains so one of our party had to wait whilst the rest ate- Glasses were empty for a long time and we had to keep asking for service, no attention was paid to the table unless we asked- The food was very poor, most of the party were unhappy, my steak was full of gristle and not pleasant at all, the chips were hard and undercooked, vegetables were hard and undercooked - Basic tables service training is very much needed, the waitress repeatedly leaned across me to serve the person sat next to me when there was plenty of room to move around each person, her face was literally a millimetre from mine...very strange!! - I had to ask for the table to be cleared, dirty plates left for too long even after we had been given the dessert menu- Attention to detail isn't there at all, the waiting team seemed to be very inexperienced and lacked basic skills you would expect to see in such a placeThe okay things:- The dessert was nice, but you can't go wrong with a banana split topped with cream out of a can- The venue itself is niceIt could be so much better!! More attention to the quality of food and quality of service, the surroundings are beautiful so this experience has really let it down unfortunately. Customer experience isn't considered at all....you can't trade on the FA name and location forever, repeat custom is so important and I would go back or recommend based on this trip.

Not what I would have expected at a hotel of this type.We all had the buffet which was completely tasteless. The cauliflower cheese had skin so thick it needed a drill to get into it. The beef was very dry that gravy was desperately needed.Even though we requested some gravy, and the chef brought it out quickly, this is not the establishment that you would think the customer would need to ask for gravy. The Cod, wrapped in parma ham, while it had flavour, it was very dry, the accompanying butter beans in a tomato sauce was too small, making the dish dry and inedible.Dessert faired better, as there was flavour in each of the dishes, the Lemon Meringue Pie being a highlight, but a lack of variety and no hot pudding, a staple of many Hilton restaurants, was sorely lacking.Where this restaurant lacked was the attention to detail, that you would expect of this hotel and for the Hilton brand itself. If there was someone behind the counter to check the food, by stirring the cauliflower cheese, or checking there was still liquid in the beef and fish, then the end result would have been so much better. The staff, however, were excellent, polite and really helpful. The breakfast in the morning was a complete turnaround and was better than the night before, and on par with other Hilton's that I have stayed at.

Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful hotel with excellent staff. Unfortunately the food was not up to the same standard but was overpriced and there was a lack of variety on the menu.My starter was the English Rosary goats cheese with spiced apricots at £8.50. It was a very poor "cheese on toast"

Having received a gift of a three course dinner and cocktail at St Georges Park we were really looking forward to our evening. However, the food was such a disappointment as none of the courses had any flavour and not what one would have expected from a venue that is supposedly a high class restaurant. The staff were lovely so no complaints about the service we received but surely a chef of any calibre would know that the food being served in the restaurant is not of a standard that warrants the price being charged. Also, a bottle of mediocre wine at £29 a bottle is taking advantage of the customers.

Reviewed in more detail along with hotel, but briefly the menu could be more varied and have more choice. The food was fine but expensive in context to quality and other restaurants in the same bracket. 2 starters, 2 steak & chips and low end bottle of wine almost £100. Found the bar menu more varied and enjoyed the food more for a lot less.

Sadly then they failed to clear away our clearly finished with plates.. We waited for 10/15 minutes before deciding that it was too late to have desert and asked for the bill. There's loads of staff there but no one clearing away... Ice cream at home it was.. Bit of a shame really....

'Average' describes this experience very well. The food is OK, the service is OK, the venue is OK, but none of it is anything special. It is 'typical Hilton', the same standard fare you find in any Hilton across the globe. In the 'Crossbar' the prices are overly high - £17 for fish and chips which had no trimmings except a very small bowl of mushy peas (dip size) and prices for other food is similarly overpriced - I would normally have expected to pay half this for what was offered. My son, who ate with his futsal team in the restaurant at the same time said that 'it certainly wasn't worth £25'. Although the waiter was brilliant - speedy, pleasant and informative, the speed of the service overall was slow. Although there was a futsal tournament on, and all 500 tickets had been sold, it seemed we were one of very few people eating here, most preferring the basic catering van parked out the back of the futsal hall. Be warned - if average is OK for you, then this is fine! (NB there is nowhere else to eat on site, although there is a cheaper restaurant within a few hundred metres of the entrance to St George's Park heading east)

We hadn't been to St George's since it opened so meeting up for a family Mothers Day lunch seemed a good idea. Although I had only lived round the corner when it was being built I was amazed how big the site was. The Hilton Hotel was modern with a good sized car park outside. The whole hotel felt light and open and it was great to see the football memorabilia around the hotel. The restaurant itself matches the rest of the hotel - modern and light with some nice views of the complex through the large windows. All 3 courses were self service - a nice selection of seafood, pate and salads to begin with (and soup but we didn't see that as it was at the other end). The service throughout was very attentive and plates were cleared away promptly and drinks served quickly. The carvery had beef and pork plus chicken breast and salmon so a nice selection. The roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds and veg were all very good for a buffet. The meat was generally very good - the pork especially along with some nice crackling. The desserts were simple but really nice - I chose cheese and biscuits but most of my family went off the strawberry mousse which seemed to go down well with everyone.Had coffee out in hand bar area which was nice as we had room to talk after the meal and share our gifts.Food I thought was good value but the drinks are really expensive unfortunately.Overall a very nice afternoon.

I regularly eat here, both in the bar and restaurant, it's a very well run place, as I've said before the staff are brilliant. Unfortunately the prices seem to have gone up and the quantity of food gone down, although what you do get is lovely. For example, we nipped in one evening for a glass of wine and some nibbles, one of which was a bowl of fries, this is not accurate! There were possibly a dozen French fries for £5. Luckily the glass of wine had taken effect and we both saw the funny side!I'd love to see some promotions aimed at getting local people in to the restaurant on their quiet nights.

First trip to St George's Park and we dined in the Cross Bar area - a vast and smartly furnished room which lends itself to both business working lunches and general informal dining by families, friends and couples etc. As a working/dining space it is perfect - lots of room around the tables and booths and plenty of sockets for today's plethora of electrical equipment always needing a charge! The huge TV screen did not intrude and the walls were interestingly adorned with iconic football heroes neatly framed and arranged. A very comfortable atmosphere with quite a buzz about it. The staff were extremely pleasant although things broke down a little in service. Drinks ordered, we studied the menu which contained a perfectly adequate selection of lite bites and larger plates. We chose a Burger at £15.50, a Chicken Sandwich at £10.50 and Lamb Skewers (which failed to materialise even after two prompts although when they finally appeared we were assured that we would not be charged which is a good thing because we had completely gone past the idea by then!). The burger was ok but at that price I would have expected them to treat it like steak and ask me how I wanted it cooking - my fault I know, I didn't think to ask - it was dry but a decent flavour. The Chicken Sandwich was good. I did think £3.50 for a Coke was a bit expensive. St George's Park is situated in a beautiful and peaceful location. Overall average for service, excellent for venue. We will definitely give it another try - with a bit of tweaking it could be really good.

My fiancé and I were staying overnight so it would have been rude not to visit the on site restaurant. We were celebrating a special occasion and after a good afternoon using the leisure facility, we had certainly worked up an appetite. The food was amazing. Service was exceptional. Really high class, relaxed surroundings. We had ordered a bottle of prosecco and after our first glass we realised it was in fact champagne. When we let the waitress know there was no fuss, she simply replied 'that was our fault - please accept it with our compliments'! How lovely. When I'm in really nice restaurants I tend to choose simple dishes to see how they have interpreted them, so I chose the fish and chips. The fish was incredible. But the chips tasted like frozen fries - I would have expected thick cut home made ones. I had the creme brûlée and it was lovely! But after the first two courses I couldn't finish it all. We retreated to the bar to finish our champagne.I'd highly recommend a visit to the restaurant. It was well priced and felt like a real treat.

We went with a couple of friends for a meal last night, thinking we would like a look at St Georges Park and what it had to offer. The venue is stunning and did not disappoint. We welcomed by a very friendly and professional restaurant manager, who obviously had her work cut out! We were waited on by a pleasant lad. The starters arrived after half an hour. We all had a shrimp and smoked salmon cocktail. It was delicious however there was no bread. We could not attract the 'dreamy' waiters attention so we carried on eating, when he collected the plates we asked about bread and he apologised and said he had forgotten to bring it!!It got worse, my husband's steak arrived very undercooked and tough!! The restaurant manager apologised profusely and we did not pay for that meal. The other meals were ok but very over priced!!Over all, this was a comparatively expensive evening and it was just not good value for money, particularly with very expensive drinks too.

This review is for the Cross Bar and not the restaurant. I took two suppliers to the Hilton Hotel complex at St. George's Park. We did not have time or the wish to visit the restaurant, as we only wanted a light and quick lunch. We were all interested to see what the place was like after all the hype. The location is stunning as is the building. The Cross Bar is an amazing space. The staff were most pleasant and helpful. The bar menu is very limited, we ordered three baguette's with chips. The Baguette's were c£9.95 each. We also ordered some chips which were £5 a portion, we were advised we would need two portions of chip for the three of us. My steak baguette and one of my guests chicken baguettes arrived with the said chips. The third baguette was absent and we were told it would arrive shortly. My baguette was pretty poor, arranged on a plate with a little salad garnish and some vegetable root crisps. The steak was tough although it tasted okay there was little of it. The £5 chips were minimal and were just normal frozen chips, I was expecting at the price hand cut chunky chips! The missing baguette was still not with us after 15 minutes and the staff were prompted twice. To their credit they offered the waiting guest an other drink FOC. The errant meal arrived and it had clearly been forgotten as it was no culinary masterpiece. Again the staff showed some initiative as on paying the bill and without me asking they said they would not charge for the late food. Even so I still felt I had a very poor experience and was disappointed. This is a stunning place and deserves imaginative and good food rather than expensive poor food.If in the Burton area you can do much better for lunch at a mass market chain pub or many of the excellent independent pubs.I will try the restaurant independently of this review.

Went for a birthday dinner last night. Restaurant was too dimly lit, I couldn't even read the menu! There was not much atmosphere, the background music was not working and it had a clinical feel. I had a voucher including 2 champagne cocktails and expected these once seated & therefore did not initially order a drink apart from water. We placed our food order & had our starter but still no cocktails. My husband ordered a lager & I ordered a glass of wine for the main course, they did not appear & we had to chase them up. The lager was well short of a pint & we had to get this topped up. We then chased the cocktails up again and they arrived. The food was very good and fresh but the whole experience did not live up to my expectations of a Hilton and the atmosphere was lacking.

My husband, children and i are health club members, and regularly pop in to The Crossbar for a drink or snack after swimming, i've always found the staff to be very attentive particularly Claire, who always goes out of her way to make sure we have everything we need and that our children are happy. For our anniversary, we decided last minute to try the restaurant and i'm genuinely glad we did. When we were shown to our table there was an anniversary card on the table and two complimentary glasses of wine were sent over which was a lovely surprise. The starters were super yummy, and the steaks were delicious, the only slight complaint i had was that there was only a few handcut chips with the steak (my saddo husband counted them-9 in total) and they were really soggy. I mentioned this to Nichola, who was looking after our table, and she assured us that the kitchen had advised her that this isn't how they normally are, so maybe we were just unlucky. The Hilton at St George's has a relaxed atmosphere, and it's best asset is definitely its staff who are brilliant, nothing is too much trouble and every request is met with a smile. As a member of the gym, we on quite a few occasions have had food in the crossbar. On 9 out of 10 times we have not been impressed. On one occasion the bar was virtually empty, we sat down for 20 minutes at a table, and not one member of staff approached us to take a drink order or a food order...eventhough there were plenty of staff around. On Saturday after going to the gym, we ordered a salt beef sandwich, when it came, there were no gherkins (as advertised) and the beef was plastic out of a packet. We didnt eat the sandwich and complained. The waitress took it away and explained that the chef had 'forgotten' to tell her that the salt beef is frozen, that's why we got packet beef. At nearly £8 for a sandwich, this is totally unacceptable, they should have just said that the beef was off the menu. On another occasion, the food was greasy and cold and half of our order was missing as the waiter had forgotten to write down the order. My parents took friends there for a meal in the restaurant, the bill came to approx £250, and they complained that the food was unacceptable. As new members it is very difficult to want to promote this venue to family and friends. Very disappointed in nearly every time we have been there. Such a shame, as the place is lovely, but the basics are just not there!

They were very well cooked and nicely presented. The bar itself is impressive but perhaps lacking in atmosphere as it's so large. The wall of football prints is certainly something special if you're into football. The Pedigree was excellent I'm told. A review of Hilton Hotel, Saint George's Park, Burton upon Trent -opened on August 15th. I took three friends for a special lunch at the new Saint George's Park Hilton Hotel, near Burton upon Trent which is part of the National Football Centre. This venue opened during August. The impressive hotel stands in a vast countryside setting. We were given most courteous and friendly attention. The a la carte menu had a wide and interesting selection with many vegetarian options. Our main course for three of us was lamb cutlets with mushroom sauce, tomatoes, field mushroom and a tower of chips. This was cooked and presented to perfection. There was a slight delay for the apple and blackberry crumble as it was prepared individually. We did not mind , we were able to admire the beautiful light and airy restaurant where the chiefs could be seen through a glass at the far end and we had a short walk on the terrace. We took coffee in sumptuous lounge bar where again we were served with relaxing attention. This a new spot for the area, the hotel has 250 bedrooms and I am sure it will not be long before it is very busy with guests alongside well known footballers enjoying the ambiance. There are many facilities including a health club with gym, spa and swimming pool. We live near, so we will soon be returning. perhaps to the try the bar menu with included afternoon tea, or breakfast which is served from 7.30a.m.to 11a.m each morning. !!!
