Excellent goan fish curry. Naan nice and fluffy. Onion bhaji tasty. Unfortunately the rugby I went to see wasn’t so good

Hilltop restaurant offers delightful South Indian cuisine with impeccable taste. From dosa to puri masala and samosa, every dish was delicious. We also enjoyed the crispy papadum and flavorful chutneys. While the atmosphere lacked live music and was quiet with just us, it provided a relaxed dining experience. Overall, a great place for authentic South Indian flavors!

This is authentic South Indian food. My family absolutely love it !! A real taste of home. Masala Dosa made from rice flour comes with 2 sauces would recommend restaurant if you like proper Indian food.

Ordered takeout tonight. Can’t understand why they smother everything with 🌶️ Their vegetarian biriyani, fish, samosa, dosa were all full of chilli and made eating an unpleasant experience. Might be ok for those who’ve had a few beers but not for those trying to enjoy food at home.

The food is well cooked. Sauce is very tasty. Drinks are limited as a lot of beers in the list are not available. Also I'd be wary of the wine as our glass of rose came with a lot of sediment and although we had no measure looked short of that advertised so beware

Ordered online - had never used them before! Currently 6th in Indians in Gloucester no idea how! The curry was possibly the worst I’ve ever had strange taste & no texture! I won’t order from them again..

We had a table booked for 4 people. No one else in the restaurant. Since it has been taken over it’s gone down hill. Had to keep asking for drinks as the waiter service was non existent. Won’t be going back

The restaurant might not look like much from the outside with a shattered glass pane but it is quite spacious inside and is fairly clean. Not much of an ambience during lunch time. Good South Indian food choices with dosa, vada etc. we tried poori bhaji, masala dosa and plain dosa. Sambar was perfect and so were the chutneys but the potato masala could have done with a bit more spice and salt. Very reasonably priced and so close to the Cathedral too.

Had a takeaway and when I put the curry on the rice, about half a pint of water separated! Dreadful..

This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Gloucestershire. The menu isn't huge, but there are tasty south Indian dishes and vegetable side dishes at affordable prices. Portions are generous and it's always tasty. It's not usually busy early evening, there's parking, service is generally chilled, drinks are sensibly priced. I've been coming for 30 years, no need to consider going elsewhere.

I should have paid attention to Sudarshan Ganeshan review below. I ordered a mix platter takeaway, and it was so bad and that I had to bin most of it. The meat was rough, dry, had an off smell, and extremely unpleasant. Hilltop has changed management several times over the years, and this is the worst I've seen it.

I had a great time dining at Hilltop restaurant for my birthday and can't wait to go back again. Very kind and attentive staff and delicious food, the best Indian I've tasted in a long time. Some of the dishes are quite salty buy I really like that. Would recommend. Good vegetarian options.

I like this place. If you are craving Indian food then i must suggest this place. The hospitality was very nice. They serve us as per our taste and the good part is it will definitely fit into your budget. We ordered Dosa, samosa, mix vegetable sabji, butter naan, chilli paneer and jeera rice dal tadka and it cost us around 30 pounds which is much cheaper. Go and try it. Yesterday I visited this restaurant again and again its food was delicious. I got my food according to my test. it was like home food. I ordered mixed veg sabji and chapati and pillaw rice and lemonade. Everything was delicious. Thank you hilltop restaurant for serving good Indian style food.

Usually a really good restaurant but ... Upon ordering a takeaway I was told the wait time would be 25-30 mins as it was busy. No problem. I am then told it will be another 10-15 mins. The time kept ticking. They hadn't even started cooking it! I had to wait over an hour for my food! Clearly cannot deal with being busy. Even when I took the food home my partners Tikka Masala tasted as spicy as my jalfrezi, as if they double dipped the ladel. Will not be dining here again. Cannot run the restaurant business. Customers were even complaining to me about their wait times too.

Provide tasty food at affordable prices. But the space within is little crooked and the table is not enough to hold the items we buy. Definitely a great restaurant for take aways.

Delicious Indian food of the utmost quality, freshly prepared and with a wide-ranging menu. We always enjoy eating at Hilltop - probably the best restaurant in Gloucester city.

Highly NOT recommended, advertised as Sri Lankan restaurant but nowhere close to one , I ordered chicken kothu , devilled chicken and mutton rolls except for the mutton rolls which was average or closest to what was namesake Sri Lankan the other 2 dishes were below any standard restaurant quality - it was bland , tasted odd and I don’t think I got what I ordered kothu was not kothu and devilled chicken absolutely not devilled chicken. I wouldn’t never order from this place even if had no other choice. Absolute waste of money !!!

This place deserves five stars because the food was excellent, lovely clean setting and helpful friendly staff. I was visiting from Leicestershire. I regularly use the 100's of restaurants in Leicester. Trust me, the food here is very good and it has a slightly unusual menu. It was a Thursday evening and we were the only customers ! Come on Gloucester, use it or loose it.

We booked diner for a group of 27 after watching a Rugby match. The staff was very polite, accommodating, efficient and though it took a bit longer to get our food than usual, it was all served at the same time and very good. Would go back without hesitation.

Disappointing meal! Told it was 15 min collection turned into over an hours wait! Food was mediocre, generally disappointed!

Really enjoyed the food and service here. They have a good selection of authentic beers and the Sri Lankan food is a devine addition to the Indian cuisine here.

My family has loved this place for years. This time we had lassis, popadoms & pickles, fish cutlets, samosas, vada, kothu, Goan fish curry, garlic naan, pilau rice. Good attentive service and tasty food. Parking is right opposite.

Great experience with both food quality and service from Hilltop yesterday. Deliveroo person conveniently decided to 'Not deliver' our food. Complaining to deliveroo customer service was useless and cold shouldered. (eventually they just issued a refund and were very indifferent to our bad experience). Called Hilltop and they were very sorry for the bad experience even though it was not their mistake. He offered to resend the food. I decided to collect it my self. Food was exceptional and we enjoyed the food. Very happy with the way Hilltop management treat our case and extra mile they went to service customer. They also gave a discount on my bill.

Wow what beautiful, flavoursome curries we had. The chef listened to our special requests and did the restaurant proud. Chilli chicken had a fab kick to it. Peshwari naan was mouthwatering and nourish We will be going back next week with our other halves for an evening meal. I visited the Hilltop on Monday evening and the service and food were fantastic. All the food was full of flavour and so tasty and it was served in a timely fashion and was all sizzling hot. The chef is superb and we were made to feel very welcome. It serves the best Indian food in Gloucester and I would never go anywhere else for a curry. I highly recommend you try it!

Fantastic food, wonderful venue and really welcoming staff that can't do enough for you. We had a large party of maybe 15-20 people. We had all pre ordered. Service was really good, food was tasty and hot, served on warm plates. We all enjoyed our evening here. I would certainly recommend this restaurant if you like Indian food full of flavour.

Not been here for a long time. Shall not be rushing back. The old place had a look of quality about it, heavy tablecloth and napkins. And a menu book. Not any more. Thin cotton and one sheet menus. I expect covid will get the blame. But food wasn't that good either.

We had a cracking family celebration here. The food was superb, and the service impeccable. For those who are getting a bit bored with 'standard' Indian restaurant fare, the Hilltop is a delight. For starters, the 4 of us shared Masala Dosa, Masala Veda, and Iddlis; and we followed up with both Sri Lankan and Southern Indian main courses. Heaven!

Have been going to this restaurant for over a decade thank good is excellent and never disappoints.

Good food reasonable price and good service

I just went here today and was treated so badly and rudely by the owner before i even ordered, im on a short break and unshaven so he made an assumption based on that and said i know pleople like you as i asked for a beer while waiting for my food. I obviously walked out by the way its 17.40pm. You make your own choices, but i left disgusted. How dare he make assumptions.

We live in South Wales but this is our second visit to this restaurant in Gloucester and it is always excellent. Food and service is great, one of the best and highly recommended.

We booked for of 25. The attitude of the staff/owner is appalling. Rude to customers and service is poor.

From the moment we stepped in , the tone of the staff was extremely rude. Extremely ordinary food - cold when served. Inflexible - the seating arrangements for our big group was fragmented. The drinks are on a ‘pay as you go’- which was extremely ridiculous considering that We were a big party. We were not running away and offered a card for the tab. Sticky tables - ordinary decor! Not coming back here again!

Not the poshest restraint in town, but we really love the food at the Hilltop. Especially good for vegetarians. A very friendly and helpful host too. We can usually park right outside. Very good Covid security as well. A regular for us.

Just had the most delicious takeaway from the Hilltop in Gloucester . The devilled prawns were wonderful so aromatic the chicken fry divine and the string hopper kotthu beautiful . Not forgetting the aromatic deliciously flavoured Goan fish curry. 5 star food indeed thank you

Food edible that's about all that can be said for it, wasn't very warm, totally different dishes to what we ordered, didn't really matter though as there was no difference in taste or appearance from the jafrazi, Rogan Josh and the malasa. Wouldn't eat it again even if it was without charge.

We have ordered from Hilltop restaurant a few times now and have never been disappointed. Food is amazing - and staff are very friendly and go out of their way for you. Thank you Hilltop restaurant, definitely recommend.

Excellent service and excellent food at reasonable prices.

Dosa = dry and rubbery Paratha = dry, rubbery and stringy Lamb Fry = not like Lamb Fry of old. Just put in gravy which we felt should’ve been thickened more (taste is okay, nothing better). Too many thick slices of onions. Chilli Chicken = not much flavour to the chicken, but the gravy was okay. Too many thick slices of onions. Owner/gentleman at the front was polite and nice, but the atmosphere felt very old school, and it felt like a restaurant not interested in improving much, just making it by. At £40 we feel hard done by, to put it mildly.

Food was aweful, the menu sounds fantastic so was expecting something quite traditional, instead recieved something that was worse than the usual western indian style slop. Fish tasted toxic as in its been in the market a day too long, had 10 cubes of paneer in the curry which seems like a strong way reducing cost of production. Fried rice was decent but lets be honest thats not a difficult dish. Ended up apologising to my to freinds for suggesting it.

If you want to taste authentic SOUTH Indian food in Gloucester, this is the place to visit. For those who have never tried south Indian food before, let me say it is very different from the North Indian stuff served by 99% of the Indian takeaways in the UK. The prices are reasonable too. I ordered masala dosa and vada which was really good. I'll be visiting again to explore some Sri-Lankan dishes.

Mi hija quería algo que no estaba en el menú y estaban más que felices de cocinarlo para ella. El servicio fue muy amable y solo esperamos unos 20 minutos para que salieran los entrantes. La comida estaba recién hecha y el socio de mi hija es un snob de curry e incluso él también quedó impresionado, nada demasiado grasoso. Visitaré de nuevo. ¡gracias! !

We stopped in at this curry house on our way through Gloucester. We chose it based on its rating and the food did not disappoint. The owner is really friendly and the food is full of flavour. They also do takeaway.

That is for all varieties I.e. south Indian, Sri lankan gujerati etc. The cook catered to all our liking and taste. Hats off to the chef 100% and owner Antonio 100%. My uncle owns this restaurant , the food was really delicious and cooked really well. I went to this special restaurant because it’s owned by uncle. It was the first time that I went to Hilltop in Gloucester. I went on Wednesday 9th September 2020 with my parents and my relations. My relations who came to the restaurant live In Gloucester. We celebrated my mum’s early birthday and one of my relations birthday there too. It’s was fun to be there, I certainly enjoyed the food and the company too.

After waiting so long for our food order to be taken we all left, we were ignored by the short tempered rude staff members because we had dared to complain about the poor quality of the drinks.

Left waiting for 80 minutes before even a whiff of a starter. The drinks had arrived though, 3 pints of flat coke and a sparkling water( no ice in sight) Asked where the food was, no hint of an apology. We all left

I asked the front worker guy why there was hair and onion peel in the biryani and I don't know if he was drunk or something but for some reason he just lost his temper and told me to "F**k off".

Hilltop was our choice to break the seal since locking down in March and we weren't disappointed. Idli. Sambar. Fabulous and memorable. Thank you.

Splendid south Asian restaurant in the heart of Gloucester, amazing service and mouth watering food. I honestly recommend this restaurant, it’s seriously the best I’ve ever had. Went for a family meal and was so impressed with the delicious and authentic Asian food. Highly recommend the sizzling mixed platter, lamb jalfrezi, garlic nan bread and fantastic vegetable curries. The service was also fantastic, food was served very quickly and such great value for money. Will definitely be back soon!!!

Sri Lankan curry house offering all the firm favourites plus more. Dosa’s die for coupled with Goan curry amazing veg sides and gorgeous naan bread. Wash this all down with a Sri Lankan cold beer - apply the eat out scheme discount (if you can get a table Mon-Weds!) and this is a 9/10 in anyone’s book!! Great spices - tasty food and easy service.

Always delicious food, and friendly service from Anton. We enjoyed several lovely take-aways during lockdown, and now it's lovely to be able to go back and eat in. Try the chilli paneer, or order in advance for the 'proper' version of their biryani!

Delicious Sri Lankan food. Normally one has to go London to find such food so we are fortunate that in Gloucestershire we have a few Sri Lankan restaurants including the Hilltop. Try the different types of Kothu or mutton rolls. Divine biryani. Also more traditional curries available and great but be adventurous and try those dishes new to you. You won’t regret it.

I am of Sri Lankan origin and wife is English but loves Asian food. The Sri lankan food is delicious especially the kothu and biryani. Try the string hopper kothu. Divine. The fish fry is also typically Sri Lankan too. Normally one would have to go London to get similar food and we are very fortunate to have such opportunity on our doorstep in Gloucester. The usual item to be found on a similar menu are also delicious but be adventurous. You won’t regret it.

I organised a large takeaway order for my staff and colleagues all of us are front line NHS workers and Anton was amazing. Despite the difficult times for the restaurant business, he offered an NHS discount and the food which was already good value was made even more affordable. He helped pack the food and even provided some of his own implements to transport the food to work. Everyone was bowled away by how tasty the food was. Some of us haven't eaten food this good since last visiting the Indian subcontinent. 25 people have said they are definitely going to get their Indian takeaways from Hilltop in future.

We ordered a takeaway, with a number of Sri Lankan specialties. Everything was absolutely delicious and was still piping hot when we ate. Clearly difficult times with the lockdown, but Anton remains friendly and welcoming, serving great quality food.
