Balti King in Gloucester

2 hours late and I had to phone up and chase multiple times the food was stone cold

Consistently delicious food and friendly efficient service.

Food was lovely however I did ask for no onions and the rice and one of the dishes was full of onions so couldn’t eat it

First time ordering from here and enjoyed it will definitely order again

Soggy. Crushed. Cold. Over an hour late. The little bit we were able to eat tasted like jar sauce.

Food was nice but little cold, but that mite of been because the delivery was late. But still enjoyable food.

If I could leave zero stars I would. Took hours to arrive. Popadoms smelt like mould and damp, rest of the food smelt burnt grease and damp. Smell was so putrid I couldn’t eat it - to add insult to injury they forgot one of the main dishes, absolute shambles. Don’t even waste your time if you’re wanting a vegan/vegetarian curry. Do not waste your time or money

First impressions are that this is a fairly unassuming restaurant from the outside and similar inside. The the food however was excellent and the 'bring your own' policy for drinks meant the bill was far lower than it would otherwise have been. The service was very friendly too.

I got a takeaway last week and I usually have excellent food, however a asked for a korma sweetened and a sag paneer, the korma was tasteless and clearly not sweetened and the sag paneer clearly had all of the sugar, it was awful, it also didn't help it was cold which the delivery driver pretty much said it was my fault as I Jane ordered directly from them but just eat, I would say he was bordering on the aggressive, what a shame I loved their food but the attitude and taste was terrible 😔

Sent some of the wrong items from what we ordered. Curry was all over the bottom of the bags once delivered, other items soggy from condensation. After waiting an hr and a half for the delivery, Wasn't overly impressed with the food we had.

Incredible vegan selection, excellent value special offers on fantastic quality food. Best I’ve had in years, and will be going back. Hopefully often! If you’re vegetarian or vegan this is the place to go, they do things you won’t find at others and have probably missed. I’ve been told the non vegan dishes were also superb. Lovely people working there too.

We were in a horsebox in a field attending the Festival of British Eventing and they found us. Food quality and quantity also perfect

This was the most delicious food! We were a big group and ordered loads of different t dishes including prawns and veggie dishes and loads of different rices. Everything was fresh and delicious! Highly recommend!

Missing popodoms and food wasn’t hot

Avoid this place. Delivery driver called once and apparently left on my doorstep didnt want it left outside. paid over 20 for nothing and unwilling to sort it out. Will have to go through just eat to try get it refunded.

Didn't arrive. Tried to call back didn't answer. Tried to sort today and lied saying it was left outside but didn't want it left. No evidence it was left. Avoid!

Our order was supposed to arrive between 6:30-6:50 didn’t arrive till 7:30 By the time our food arrived the majority of it was cold The poppadoms were soggy The naan bread was practically solid and inedible

Balti King does the BEST curries. Their Vhicken Ceyloni and Garlic naans are favourites for us, plus the onion bhajis are always great

Great guys & consistently tasty and ethical, really wife selection particularly like the 'patra' side aka fried "colocosia" or "Taro Leaves" or "Elephant Ears" great for vegans also

First time trying this restaurant. The food arrived a bit cold, but popping it in the oven for a while was not an issue. Whilst we waited for mains to warm, we had the bhajis... these were quite poor... very small and overcooked; shame as we love a goid bhaji. The main meals were good, tasty, good depth of flavour, but the garlic chilli chicken could have been hotter( it was billed as a hot dish). Mushroom rice and cheese naan were excellent. The delivery man was very friendly and a good ambassador for the restaurant. I'd give them another try.

This review is for 2 separate visits. Visited July 4th 2022, the food was incredible, thrououghly enjoyed my meal which started with poppadoms, the yogurt and mint dip, just amazing, followed by a meat filled bread (the name escapes me) and finished with Korma as a main. I don't do spice very well so the Korma was a little hot however, nothing was taken away from the passion put into each dish. Great place to eat, just ignore the dated furniture. Visited again July 6th 2022, once again the food was absolutely fantastic. The waiter once again, super friendly and helpful happy to recommend options and this time I went with them, started with chicken wings an amazing flavour without the heat/hotness of the spices used, an excellent feat. Followed by Biriyani with egg mixed in with a cheese naan and a sweet chapati on the side. All of it was amazing though the chicken in the biriyani was a little spicey for me the taste was still just incredible, hard to stop eating its that good.

Very disappointing food quality. Runny madras, cold korma, partly cooked nans. Ruined our Friday evening.

I am not quite sure if they changed chefs or the recipes... It was all different and not in a good way, at least the driver was nice... Sorry but I had to throw the makhani and chips away... Had to find alternative food, it really was terrible...

Had a meal at the Balti King last night, The decor and the furniture are from the 70’s, it was very dark, and how you can rate this place a 4.5 stars is beyond me. There was only 2 other people in the restaurant, which should have been an idea of what was to come. I have learnt my lesson, I shall never be returning to this restaurant ever again.

Our food was supposedly delivered at 20:20 - we received a text stating food was on route, however our food did not turn up at our house until 21:13. This meant that some food items were cold (poppadom, Naan breads & rice).

The worst attempt at Indian cuisine we have ever tasted. It didn't even look or smell presentable. After a sample taste it went straight in the bin. Please do not order from this place. Avoid avoid avoid.

Hot wings were weird but the rest tasted amazing as always... I guess I should have said the ice cream is alright... But I like to decide what I get...?

My boyfriend eats here regularly and took me there recently to share how wonderful the food is with me ....he is a big time curry lover and I was very pleasantly surprised at how yummy the food was too.....Will defo go back again and recommend to anyone who asks where they would suggest for an Indian.

Absolutely lovely meal with lots of flavour. Onion bhaji were the best I've ever had. Home cooked taste and good portions. Chips were lush too.

Considering I spent 50 pound on a takeaway no popadoms no mago and chutney and the korma was below average at the least . as a hole very disappointing

I came here on a date with my boyfriend, as a vegetarian it’s my go to Indian for their amazing options which you can’t get anywhere else, but even for my omnivorous boyfriend this is the nicest place we have been too! The flavours are incredible and the staff are really nice, I highly recommend!

Very disappointing flavour, bland

We were so happy with our order. First Indian takeaway I have found that properly caters for vegans. I had so much to choose from and felt reassured that food was detailed ‘suitable for vegans’. Food was fresh, hot a delicious! We will definitely be treating ourselves to this again.

Amazing vegan menu 💚 We had the meal for two people £25 3 poppadoms with yogurt dip 2 starters Garlic mushroom bhaji Vhicken Tikka 2 mains Tatul Masala Vhicken Garlic chilli Vhicken 3 sides Mushroom rice Rosey nan bread French beans bhaji Extra - bombay potatoes All the food tasted incredible, flavours were amazing, portion size was just right. The boss said the food doesn't have colouring so it's a more natural look and I personally prefer it, looked authentic. Very helpful with answering questions about vegan options. Highly recommend. We will definitely visit here again.

Visited here on Thursday evening after a few beers in Gloucester; attentive, friendly staff, excellent food, brilliant service, excellent value for money too. A lovely little place and very homely. Will be back for sure next time I am in the area. Thank you Nunu. Top guy :-)

Unfortunately the wait time was really long... We were estimated 7.05-7.25pm arrival time but the food didn't arrive till 8.03pm. Obviously by then some of the food wasn't that hot / poppadoms had gone soft. I spoke to a man at the restaurant who apologised and was friendly but was just a shame as we ordered as a treat after a long day of work. All the curries were tasty, especially the veggie stuff but the lamb was really over cooked and chewy which was disappointing. Can recommend the Bombay potatoes, aubergine balaji & sag planner though... All delicious.

Food is amazing I may have left a review before but after tonight it deserves another. Food is like no other. I have tried a variety of curry houses in Gloucester but nothing comes close to Balti King. Yes the decor could be improved but the food is second to none. You must try..

Great to have vegan options, but VERY boring food. I've never eaten such dreary Bombay aloo and tasteless chana bhaji! Not worth the two-hour wait. Relatively expensive too.

Had Tandoori Chicken Vindaloo, great flavour, expected amount of spiciness, only criticism is it was a little too heavy on the ghee/oil. Pilau Rice was perfect & the Cheese & Onion Nan was absolutely delicious.

I cannot fault this in any way. 100% will be ordering again.

S. Indian fish dish was very strongly flavoured (with cloves/bay leaves?) with something that didn't totally agree with me, so wouldn't recommend it unless you know it well, but good sized portions and nice cauli starter.

Most dishes were dreadful, Naan breads were stale. Rogan Josh was terrible. Chicken tikka masala’s were actually ok, Pilau rice tasted like perfume. Onion Bhaji’s were stale and again tasted like perfume. Meal for 12 people. And overall the worst curry most of us have had unfortunately. I don’t like to give poor reviews, but feel they need to do a lot better.

Food great but came out bit by bit think they struggle with large groups everything else great but had to go to shop to get ice for outselves

The best vegan Indian food I have ever day, an amazing selection, if you go you must try the vegan korma with chicken pieces and the vegan mango lassi

Great service great food rang up for delivery to where I was parked in truck the guy who took my order was very helpful the food was absolutely delish and the delivery driver was also very helpful thanks guys will be sure to order again!

Not your typical Balti house. Some very different items on the menu. Our cauliflower starter was superb. As was my wife's fish for main. Mine was very spicy but the chef toned it down for me. Bring your own bottle (Aldi quite close). What's not to like? We were the only eat in customers so not much atmosphere, hence 4 stars.

Very disappointed unfortunately was looking forward to this as we eat in and is amazing but today the curry’s were like water with what looked like red sauce floating on top I assume where it wasn’t mixed properly. The curry’s had leaked all over the rice, chips and nan breads making them soggy and unedable. Especially with kids liking it completely plain. I managed to save one bag of chips and tasted like yesterday chips warmed up. Was tough. Extremely disappointed and won’t be back.

The food arrived piping hot and absolutely delicious!!! Plentiful amounts too!! Driver brought it all the way to my pitch on the campsite!

Fabulous authentic Indian food. They have an excellent, separate and in-depth vegan menu. Balti king is also a 'bring your own booze' restaurant - without corkage charge. Highly recommended..........

Not like anything we’ve tasted before. No, on every level. My husband being a chef feels that it’s out of a jar and they haven’t bothered to cook out the sauce which means no base curry sauce in this at all. Lamb tasted like old mutton. Korma very strange taste to it.

We have ordered from here a few times Last time one of the main dishes was missing This time my daughter had ordered a vegan mini meal but there was egg in her rice and the Vegan chicken substitute was in fact chicken. Definitely will not order again There should be rules, if someone wants vegan food they should be able to trust that’s what they are getting - very disappointed

I ordered a takeaway for collection. The vegan offerings on the menu are extensive, with vegetable, vegan quorn, vegan chicken and even vegan prawn options. There are vegan naan breads too!I had: Vegan chicken tandoori starter Vegan chicken balti Vegan chicken pakora Onion bhaji Garlic & coriander naan Poppadom It was all absolutely delicious, I particularly loved the tandoori starter, it was amazing. So happy to be able to get fully vegan Indian food, there aren't many places like this! Friendly, and decent prices too.

This restaurant is unassuming from the outside, but the takeaway just enjoyed was simply superb. Really superb! We can sometimes be critical when we suspect food has just been 'knocked out' but this was anything but. We were so impressed. M&K.

Forget those sloppy, samey sauces from lesser establishments - the food from Balti King tastes as though someone has cooked it from scratch, with love. Every dish is fresh and distinct, and there are heaps of vegan options. The only reason I haven't given it five stars is that a couple of times we have ordered, they have missed off minor items such as samosas and poppadums. It's still our number one favourite. In fact, I am feeling hungry right now...

Really enjoyed the food and the prices are great for the mini meals which are still generous portions. Loads of options even for veggies and vegans. Will be ordering again!

Absolutely amazing takeaway and great for vegans 10/10

Food arrived half an hour early which was fine for us but might have been an issue for some. Good value and tasty curries, especially the lamb dansak so would order that again. Shame about the garlic nan bread though - never in my life have I seen so many garlic cloves - it contained hundreds! Tried picking them out but there were just too many hence it was inedible.

Ordered shortly after 6pm and estimated delivery was 8:35pm. It was 30 minutes late and didn't arrive until 9:08pm. I've ordered from here countless times before and the food has usually been amazing, however this time it was awful. Portion sizes were less than half what they usually are for the madras (usually in a large container, arrived in a small/medium one) and sag aloo (usually in a medium container, arrived in a tiny one), pakoras were tiny and overcooked. All the food was bland and there was barely any heat to my madras. There was a layer of oil on top of everything that I had to drain off before eating. I understand times are hard so I tried to give the benefit of the doubt but I'm really disappointed. This is usually my favourite vegan takeaway but I'm reluctant to order again after this.

I ordered the food at 18:18 and it arrived at 20:25, not happy!

Nearly 3 hrs late, option choice was confusing for chutneys etc and ended up paying £12 for a selection chutney!! Asexual communication with just eat. Luckily the restaurant had their heads on.

Food was stone cold by the time it got to us and was not enjoyable. Such as shame as we’ve ordered from them a few times before and it’s always been really nice food, unfortunately not this time.

Although the delivery was on time, that's not an achievement at 1 hour 40 minutes wait, now for the food... A layer of solid grease on each menu item, bland bland bland, did you honestly use spices? I'm actually depressed as that cost me £50 and for half the price rogan josh would have provided quality professional food and double the quantity.

Showed up on time and had to wait nearly half an hour. The food was very average, to be honest it tasted like jarred sauce from the supermarket. I love that they do vegan options but the curry itself was pedestrian.

Food was great and on time. I live in a quiet close and the driver drove away really erratically and at way too fast, this has put me off ordering again.
