Hilltop Cafe in St Edmundsbury

My husband and I just had a delicious meal at Hilltop. Lovely ladies serving, piping hot food and plates, fast service, massive portions of food. Only wish we had, had room for a dessert. Great value for money. Superb choice of dishes.

Popped in today for a quick coffee tea and toast. Sat outside as we had our Border collie with us. The service was great with very friendly atmosphere and when I said we were outside because of the dog I was told I could bring her inside which we were really happy about as on a cold rainy day which we get alot now we wouldn't have to leave her in the car. And the lovely lady even gaveher a sausage. Very much appreciated. And wouldn't it be nice if everywhere was as welcoming .👍

First time here and won't be the last, great little cafe with ample free parking. Friendly staff. The only bad point is the outside loos which are disgusting.

Free parking and that's it, the toilet is not that special

Lovely, busy café located within the grounds of Whittington Castle. Offering a wide range of cakes, scones and lots of other lovely looking sweet treats. They also offer a breakfast menu and a range of other meals, too and, of course, hot and cold drinks. We visited twice during a short break, staying with friends in the village. First visit was just for coffee, which was delicious and piping-hot. Our party of 4 returned the following morning to try their breakfast "wobbler" (a huge toasted roll/bun/bap) full of sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown and cheese, served with a little tomato and cress on the side. Accompanied, of course, with more delightful coffees. Although I wasn't quite sure about the cheese, I must admit it blended perfectly with all the other ingredients and was absolutely gorgeous. The "wobblers" were very big, yet amazingly, all 4 of us left clean plates, including the 2 who, normally, don't have huge appetites. Other dishes we saw being served looked delicious, too. According to our friends, the café is staffed and run by locals (some volunteers, I think). The food on offer is all handmade and features local produce. The staff we met during our visits were all lovely, friendly and chatty, giving a really nice ambience to the place. Prices are decent too. Our 4 breakfasts and 4 large coffees came to less than £45. Oh, mustn't forget the 5th member of our party who was our friend's dog, Arthur. He and other well-behaved dogs are made very welcome, with drinking bowls of fresh water provided. A glass jar just inside the entrance also contains dog biscuits - a nice touch! We will definitely be back to the Hilltop Café and recommend that you try it too.

Free Truck stop attached. Great food worth loads to choose from at a great price. Also popped in for a "Big Boy Breakfast" With black pudding all washed down with a lovely mug of tea.

Cafe still one of the best stops off A14. Easy parking. Note that toilets are not part of cafe and are looked after by local council. So they aren't great.

Parked up here after a days work, decided to get something simple like burger and chips, and the guys in cafe were amazing. So very friendly, food was great, and not pricey at all. Definitely want to park here again, and would definitely 100 percent recommend 👍👍👍👍👍

Excellent breakfast for the price, friendly staff, well worth a visit

Place is tatty, grubby, tired, dirty and run down. It smelled of very old cooking oil and it permeated my clothes. This was evident when we got the food we ordered…the chips were definitely re-fried in old, carcinogenic oil which can cause cancer. Not one healthy dish on the menu, just microwaved and fried carbs and cheap ingredients. Bathrooms are disgusting and unusable. Place needs demolishing. This is one of the worst places I’ve ever been to eat and only stopped here for an emergency. Gross. No wonder truckers are so unhealthy! Why can’t they be offered healthier food options? Come here if you definitely want diabetes and gain more weight for your bad heart.

Totally rubbish food . I have given few chances that might be they are having a bad day but it seems like they are just not good enough . Today I ordered a bowl of fries and it was a total disaster.! Burnt , cold and swimming in oil .! I honestly think they served chips that they just didn’t want throw away .! What a waste of money .!

Good place to park up overnight nice and quiet food in cafe really nice and the prices are good! The only issue was the toilets something needs to be done honestly they are so dirty and outdated but I don’t think it’s anything to do with the cafe.

It was a Sunday afternoon and we pulled up with the caravan so on the plus side there was ample parking! However cafe closed and the toilets had about 3 inches of water - it hadn't been raining...

Cafe was fine, drivers shower and toilet facilities need attention though. Edit: Thanks for the response. Would be 5 stars as a cafe but as it's at a truck stop it really needs decent facilities. It's a shame highways can't match your standards.

Still very nice but I don't know if they have recently changed hands The portions are a lot smaller. But still a nice evening now After a hard day.

Avoid it if you can... browsed the pricey menu and went for “tuna mayonaise” in the “large roll” section at £4.80 each. Was pretty shocked when i got back to the lorri to see 2 floured burger baps with hardly any tuna at all in. For nearly a fiver each an absolute rip off. Toilets look like they have come out of Beirut as well. Lesson learned ... never again.

Dirty toilets, food expensive (£7.20 for basic breakfast with hot drink) and very greasy, wouldn’t recommend parking overnight as place turns into a race track with wannabe boy racers playing football off the side of trucks.
