Overall good but overpriced. I bought 2 pots and soil to repot my indoor plants. I saw my usual German biscuit I buy from Waitrose for £1.50. Here it was double of that price. Why did I give 3 stars? Firstly, the entrance when you drive into the car park. Why is it for 1 car only? Surely if it is an entrance and exit, it can be enlarged for 2 cars. The second star off was for the atmosphere inside which is not the shop's fault: screaming kids everywhere, lots of families but not the educated ones if you get my meaning and dogs inside. Outside I get it but inside with screaming children? One shop assistant at the till, huge queues.

Visited today with family, having been several times before Hillier took over, but unfortunately all four of us left disappointed - we made a specific journey for the fabulous cake, and to look around the garden center. Whilst the center itself was lovely, the cafe was something to be desired. Nearly every single table had dirty cups, plates or trays on it, and those without had dirty surfaces. Customers were having to clear their own tables in order to sit down, and the till/barista station was also dirty and messy with piles of empty milk bottles in the sink and on surfaces. Coffee cups were only half filled, but having waited for some time for the order to be taken and the drinks to be made, it felt too painstaking to ask for a properly filled cup. I ordered a raspberry and white chocolate muffin, and having got 3/4’s of the way through it, I got up to check that I had actually picked up the right one as there wasn’t a single raspberry to be found within it. It tasted as if there was white chocolate flavouring but again none actually inside. When paying nearly £4 for a relatively small muffin, I do really expect there to be the ingredients inside that it says it has! It did still taste nice, and was clearly fresh, but such a shame that it essentially a plain muffin. As we left, the three members of staff were attending to one customer in the queue, with probably 90% of the tables still covered in dirty tableware. For context, we were sat at table 41 on the right hand side, and there was not one single clear table in that entire section, with only three actually occupied tables. It may just have been an off day, but for a garden centre cafe on the upper end of the price scale, I expect to be able to sit at a clean table at the very least. I walked past a number of people who’d clearly seen the state of it and not bothered to sit and eat, hearing similar comments about the cleanliness. Very disappointing as the centre is lovely, but I absolutely won’t be going back any time soon.

Great garden centre! The farm shop area is full of great produce at reasonable prices and the deli counter is good. They have a range of pastries, pies, cheese and cakes. The nursery part is full of a range of different plants and garden decorations, all at reasonable prices. The restaurant is lovely and reasonably priced, with a good selection of food. The staff we dealt with were also very friendly and helpful. The facilities are good too, including the toilets, and there's a decent sized car park. Will definitely be going back.

It is often quite crowded and would be good were it for the dreadful Muzak being piped through speakers all over the place. The food hall is very interesting. However, their prices are 59% or more than the exact same things available elsewhere. So, it's nice to get inspiration there and then buy the stuff elsewhere. Of course, some of it would be difficult to find elsewhere, but most of it is widely available. The people who work there are very nice. Friendly, helpful and courteous. Car parking is good, too. If you like garden centres and piped pop music, you'll like this place!

I like this garden centre, I like food, staff is always friendly and helpful. However, I had to stop ordering my favourite Hillier’s breakfast as today (15.09) was second time that I witnessed how staff handled toast. There were two girls with dark brown hair and one guy that didn’t use tongs provided when handling toast. I’ve seen the same guy later on clearing tables. I’ve seen in the past that some of your staff use tongs to get bread out of packaging, transfer to toaster, out of toaster, hold when cutting and transfer to plate and this is how I want my toast to be handled otherwise it’s disgusting. Please train your staff properly on handling food!

This is now a self service cafe. No menus anywhere, which is a pain with young children who you are trying to seat as it involves queuing for ages after photographing the menu. why no QR codes on the tables for ordering purposes? The food was so mediocre and unappetising. Child’s jacket potato had tuna plonked on half a potato with absolutely nothing on the side, the Welsh rarebit was basically some cheese on toast. All the food was lacking and the cost of decent pub food, which this definitely wasn’t. Where are the side salads for instance? Didn’t feel good value for money and the staff (if you can find any!) were unhelpful and I felt like an inconvenience. It was definitely much better when it was Rosebourne. It’s a shame our two local garden centres are now Hilliers. It would be interesting to know the new Google rating average since the changeover…

I'm really disappointed with our visit to the cafe today. We've been coming here for years and it was always a pleasure to visit as the quality of the food and service was great. Today we had one order of ham (processed and plastic like), egg and chips (cold) and one order of quiche (pastry thick and uncooked) and green salad (warm wilted leaves from leaving it under the heater for 10 mins - I could see it sitting there). What a shame that Hillers have taken the 'great' out of this place. We won't be returning.

Went for the first time since the changeover from Rosebourne and ordered the fish finger sandwich. There was quite a long wait (in fairness it was peak time) but when it did arrive, it came with very thick, somewhat unappealing white bread, and was slavered in tartar sauce. The fish was probably quite nice but totally overpowered. On the positive side, the plants and accessories are well laid out and extensive.

We made a special effort to visit our local garden centre cafe, we’d been many times previously and had a pleasant experience. Sadly, the cafe had changed since our last visit. It’s now a self service cafe, no longer offering waitress service or the invaluable mobile phone ordering service online. I am in a wheelchair and this was one of the reasons we used the cafe regularly. My husband went off to order, he’d been gone some considerable time, if he wasn’t in sight I’d have thought he’d left me there! He returned shaking his head carrying a tray with coffees and muffins. The coffee was tepid at best and the muffins were not as described (raspberry and white chocolate, my husbands was devoid of raspberries!) I’m afraid this has put us off returning. We loved our occasional visits, enjoying these facilities. We won’t be returning.

Oh dear ! The new refurbished restaurant is a definite backward step and now considering somewhere else to have Sunday breakfast and seeing the empty tables at 10:30 it might seem others are voting with their feet. Now there is only the menu on the board as you enter and you can only order at the till no online ordering any more. This new way meant a waited for 10mins in a queue to order and then 30mins for the breakfast which came with white toast not the brown we asked for. The sausages in the breakfast were quite small. This is not the only change, not for the good, I noticed a while back they had stopped selling the patisserie style cakes which is a great shame as there isn’t anywhere else in the area that sell those.

Having always been very impressed with the food when it was a 'Rosebourne' sad to say that the quality of food and care has gone downhill big time. My daughter had to return her £12.99 ploughman's today for several reasons, the pickles looked like they'd been thrown in the ramekin dishes all mucky on the outside. Half a slice of fatty ham, cheddar looked unappetising with a white mould like substance on it, celery looked limp all for the grand price of £12.99. She returned it and asked for just a quick bowl of chips as now we were running out of time for her to wait for another meal. The waiter we spoke to was very apologetic and offered for her to take home a cake of her choosing, lovely polite lad called Michael. As for my £8.99 jacket potato with tuna 'lemon mayonnaise' I reckon there must have been all of teaspoon in a mound of tuna, jacket potato was tough, so prices have gone up and quality way down. What a shame.

After previously giving a 5* review only a year ago, I am now updating with 2* review after having a very unpleasant visit to the Café today. I understand that they are under new management and they have ruined what was a great local resource. The shop was absolutely fine and is the only reason that I did not give a 1* review. I visited today with my partner and daughter who was back from Uni for the weekend, so we were going out for what we thought would be a nice treat. We were expected to queue to be seated right next to some automatic doors that kept opening and closing behind us. There were 4 people in front us when we arrived and after about 5 minutes they were seated after which the staff member went and stood behind the till despite having seen us and with no one to serve. I then had to ask to be seated after waiting for another 10 minutes. With now around 10 people queuing behind us through the doors in the cold. Previously you were professionally greeted at the door inside the store and if there was a small queue it would be in the warmth of the garden centre. After finally being seated, we were told not to use the app to place the order as we have done on every previous occasion and so had to queue (again) at the till to order. The food came out fairly quickly after only 10 minutes and the food was good quality. Another 20 minutes later after the drinks had failed to arrive, I had to ask for assistance once again. The drinks order appeared to be lost. After 23 minutes a tray arrived but the drinks were wrong and had 2 pots of tea rather than tea and filter coffee that had been ordered. We were asked if we had used the app to order, as if we had caused the problem. The drinks were fine but as they arrived after the food had been consumed it was very unsatisfactory. I feel really sorry for the staff who were keeping busy despite being less than half capacity. The issue here appears to be a management problem and an overall lack of direction. My previous feedback from a year ago was quite a contast: This is a great local resource. We often pop in just to buy some freshly baked bread. We also love the potatoes from here as are very good quality and as they are unwashed they stay fresh for weeks. The cafe serves excellent food and makes an occasional treat. Not to mention the butchers, frozen foods, gift shop and garden centre.

To be honest we were disappointed. I took my parents for lunch. The place was busy, first impression a good sign. We were showed to our seat, given menus and explained how to order, at the counter or via app. We chose via app which was easy to follow. Drinks followed with a little wait. The food was very disappointing, my parents both had the soup which was French Onion. The didn’t really enjoy it saying some of the onions were tough like outside. The artisan bread it was served with however was excellent they both said that with a chunk of pate would have been better. I had a chicken and bacon wrap which was quite dry and the chicken tasted like it had been frozen. It came with slaw that was just plopped on the plate. I am sorry to say that I won’t be recommending or returning there is an independent one a little further a field but it is if much higher standard and also cheaper.

So disappointed with Hillier’s Christmas display and variety today. For years I have chosen Rosebourne Garden Centre as my first call for buying Christmas decorations, their display has been amazing year on year. This year, with Hillier’s buying out Rosebourne, their display was reduced by 2/3’s, boring, uninspiring and lacked its magical groto feeling. Went to Henry Street Garden Centre afterwards where much more effort was put into purchasing, displays and variety. Please bring back the display model of former year’s Hillier’s.

Plenty of parking and reasonably priced and good selection serving hot food, hot and cold drinks and a small selection of alcohol. Sunday morning was very busy with breakfasts taking over an hour. The full breakfast look great any low cost but unfortunately my breakfast roll was very poor quality with one dried skinny piece of bacon, egg and low quality sausage. Maybe the breakfast next time. The layout hasn’t changed too much, but the changes they have made means it no longer flows very well, twice we were blocked in (once by the Restaurant and then again through the Christmas decorations) which felt a bit odd. The Christmas displays also felt a lot smaller this year, although it’s still early in the season so that may well change. It’s still a lovely visit, and if you’d never seen it as ‘Rosebourne’ you’d probably not think any different but we both agreed we’d not rush back this time.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Restaurant is a good place to visit too. Shop decor gives a good festive atmosphere. It's always a joy to visit whatever the season.

Dropped in for a coffee/cake after hospital appointment. Welcomed and asked if we had any allergies before being shown to our seats. Ordering and paying was very straightforward. Excellent coffee, decaf tea and a good size portion of carrot cake. Will be back for sure.

I like a bargain and quality when I shop.I expected Hilliers to have both but I came out of my local Hilliers feeling shellshocked.I have never been in such a dear Garden Centre.I don't go to Garden Centres to dine, just to stock up on plants. For my needs I'll stick to B&Q and Homebase.

New owners and management ruined this place. They force you in via the garden centre and then make you go through a set course like a rat. Everything you go in to find is hard to get to now.

We went on Saturday afternoon, it took ages to be seated, the service was slow at the till, it wasn't busy but everything seemed to be so slow we got our coffees eventually but my husband's had a fly in it, this was changed immediately. Not as slick as when I went before.

Big selection of plants, but pretty expensive. Purchased from the cafe though which has very pleasant staff and it is quite roomy

Always the same here, a franchise that’s ran badly. The drinks machine is missing 90% of the options shown, charging you for sauces but don’t have the bare minimum options. These can be seen as a one-off on occasion but it’s ALWAYS like this. Chances it, yet again. Horrible service.

Nice hotel as always with Premier Inn. The chef cooked very good quality food with no issues but the restaurant staff are slow to take your order and look at the floor when walking around to avoid you catching their attention. I’ve stayed here 4 times now and it has been the same each time. Also this time I stayed there was no one on reception when I arrived and after pressing the button for assistance multiple times over a few minutes someone from the restaurant noticed and came out. Much better service in the other town centre Premier Inn but I prefer this hotel due to the large car park.
