We had a family meal here this evening. Service was excellent the lady who served us all evening was amazing.Also all the other staff were fab too.. Food we ordered was fantastic couldn’t fault it one bit.. Would deffo recommend you all to try..

We met with some of my husbands family that are visiting from Australia. As usual the food was great with good sized portions. The staff there are very friendly and welcoming and, although the place was packed, with two large parties, still smiled and chatted with everyone that was waiting to reassure them they hadn’t been forgotten. We were so busy chatting that we were reminded, very politely, that the kitchen would be closing shortly. The four of us each had something different to eat. I had Scampi & Chips, my husband had Gammon, Egg & Chips, his relatives had Steak & Chips and Lasagna & GarlicBread. The food was hot, the portions large and, I was told, the gammon and the steak were cooked perfectly. Although we weren’t the last out the door, at no time were we made to feel rushed or unwelcome. Our Aussie relatives loved it there.

Hi 4 of us had a good evening dinner here We all enjoyed our food and it was served well presented in reasonable time and staff attentive. Only minus was the longish wait to get to our table another personal at the bar would be useful.

Visited for a Charity dinner, a group of 25 people. The food was amazing and particularly enjoyed steak and ale pie. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Thanks, Zoe and staff

We met up with friends here that we hadn’t seen for years for drinks and a meal. We were warmly welcomed by the ladies working there and shown to our table. We ordered our food which was hot and delicious. My husband had the gammon and chips, our friend’s wife had fish and chips and myself and her husband had scampi and chips. The portions are very generous and set out perfectly. For pud, I had the sticky toffee pudding and custard and she had brownie and ice cream. The cost of it all including drinks came to around £120.00. We were the last ones leaving but in no way made to rush or have anyone hovering over us to make us go. We definitely recommend The Highwayman.

Staff were really friendly and accommodating. We had the fish and chips which were described as large and was told the portions were 8-10 ounce.We we’re disappointed to the size nothing like the pictures on their website.We must say that the batter was lovely .

Hi first time here since 2019 and a heap site better 3 of us had a good meal here 2 had beef and 1 pork all was tasty and piping hot.Saff here attentive will come again a bit sooner.

Drooped in with a friend for a catch up and a drink on a Monday night, which turned out to be quiz night so we had ago, found the pub warm and friendly not over bust but guess that was due to being a cold Monday night, but the log fire worked a treat, will be back in March as my mate and I want another crack at the quiz, as we havent laughed so much for years. But very friendly place and seems under new owners who were both friendly.........

We went for a carvery on Sunday for a birthday and it was lovely definitely somewhere to go for a nice relaxed meal. Lovely staff all very friendly and welcoming

Myself and my wife went here for a Sunday lunch, we are local to the area and this is our first time visiting. I will summarise below what we thought of the highwayman. The good points; - The pub itself is easy to find, has great parking and a good website. - The pub is generally clean, well laid out and has a fire going, which is nice. The bad points; - When we arrived we walked in, and could see another table being seated by a member of staff, we waited our turn, but unfortunately we had to stand in the center of the pub for at least 5 minutes, the staff seemed overwhelmed and unsure of how many bookings they were expecting. We pre booked a table over the phone, but they were unable to find this. They managed to seat us which was good. The pub is brandishing an "under new management" sign, so maybe they just need a moment to settle into their new system? - After we were seated, it wasn't explained to us that we were to order at the bar, we only found this out after we overheard another table being told so. When seated, our table was slightly sticky, but otherwise clean and in a good spot. - When ordering, we were told that I couldn't have a larger carvery, as there was an issue with the meat order. (Although, I have to say the meat portions given on the regular is substantial enough). - The carvery. Over all the food is average-mediocre, for £13.95 I'm not expecting Michelin star dining, but this could definitely be better. 1. When we were served, it was by a man in a plain T-shirt (I would expect serving staff to be in whites? Or at least dressed in the highwayman shirts the floor staff were wearing? This is a minor point but I feel it worth mentioning.) He also used tongs from the roast potatoes to handle pork crackling and then put them back, which for vegetarians could be problematic. 2. Meat. The pork ran out so only one of us could have any, it was tasty but a little dry. I had beef which was okay but again, well done. The chicken on the counter looked very dry and decided to avoid this. 3. Veg/sides. The vegetable selection is wide, although not cooked very well, big lumps in the swede, overcooked cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese, bad roasties, and sweetcorn? The Yorkshire puddings were good and so was the gravy. The stuffing was generic box stuffing. To summarise, the general feel is that this is very much a "locals" pub that happens to serve a carvery. The staff seem overwhelmed and I would say the management just needs to be stepped up a notch for this to be a good venue for people wanting more than just a full stomach.

Xmas get together, we are a group of 10 old work colleagues/friends who like to get together every couple of months I wanted to try somewhere we've not been before and The Highwayman did not disappoint, from the 1st email enquiring if it would be possible and the menu to the table decor and service. Food was really nice. We will be back.

Sorry I cannot agree with some of the negative reviews on here, rude & hostile definitely not. We are local and have always been met by friendly and helpful staff. We came for sunday lunch a few weekends ago and it was top notch, the large plate is massive, the regular plate is big enough but maybe the OAP'S plate needs to be more than a side plate, it does make you feel like a 2nd class citizen, but that aside it's a great experience, thanks to the staff.

Visited her today for a carvery, which was absolutely lovely. The staff are amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. By far the best local place for a roast. We'll done guys :)

The manager Dave was incredibly helpful and friendly. I came in yesterday for a Sunday roast, when I asked questions for my strict dietary requirements he was really accommodating and food was well presented. The atmosphere was cozy and everyone was like family. Looking forward to coming back again!!

We ate a carvery here on Sunday 22nd Oct and we were happy enough to return the following week. In comparison to the first visit, our second visit on Sunday 29th Oct the staff were very abrupt because we had arrived as a party of 6 not 5 but we had messaged. The food on this occasion was not as good as the previous week’s. The meat was poor quality and sparse. What my husband did not put on Trip adviser was that the carvery server had coughed over the counter whilst serving his food but the owner, Mr Seymore, was told via another medium. Mr Seymore retaliated writing a response to Peter Bs review on here. He said I’d poked the carvery server. I rang him and asked him why he had written such a lie he told me the carvery server had told him that. The carvery server, the man that is the core of much of the negative feed back on here, the man that coughs over food, the man that wipes his snotty nose on his sleeve whilst serving and is it’s claimed, generally not very hygienic. Mr Seymore has also since alleged we are connected to all his negative feedback, well we certainly are not, I’m afraid those reviews are experiences and opinions completely independent of us. Very badly managed, not professional at all.

Arrived, booked for 5, called and added one. Met by hostile staff and then a rude gent whom suggested I was aggressive. I was factual and even called the phone that was ‘diverted’ and it rang. A really bad experience booking in.. Eventually given a table that we are told was time limited. My call in the morning was at 1048. Proof available. After the tall slim chap had finished telling me I was aggressive.. not but factual. I was charged 103 for 6 basic drinks and a carvery. The food is great but I feel this time we were punished as we all had the medium but literally got 2 bacon sliced slices of meat. Our second and last visit. We were there last week and attended purely as it felt home cooked. Rude and confrontational greeting, not my fault if you don’t play your answer phone, and then let’s punish us with minimal where we can. Shocking and should be told… well here you are and I am quite vocal in public to all my local friends and work colleagues. I have never been addressed and never will accept being addressed as that man chose. Avoid the place until they learn service, standards and general communication. Also answer the phone, the one that rings but told diverted to looe yet ringing behind you. Good good, lack of meat as a punishment.

Average roast, meat was tough, and the guy that was serving the carvery kept wipeing his nose across back of his hand, disgusting, there were disposable gloves next to him but he didn't put any on when serving customers, would not go and eat here again

Nice friendly welcome. Good pub menu. Steak & ale pie full of big chunks, very filling, plenty of veg & chips to go with it. Good range of ales. Clean toilets. Will visit again when down here.

This is a real locals pub. We called in late in the evening, the staff were accommodating the lady was very friendly but for the bloke behind the bar everything seemed to be an effort. The food was real home made very tasty. If you plan to dine do not eat all day as the portions are huge. Excellent point of Guinness.

Being local, we hadn't visited here for a few years, so we thought we'd give it a try Well, what a mistake! The food was absolutely awful and easily the worst we've had in a long, long while. I'll spare you the details, and I'm sorry for having to write this bad review about a local business, but it really was that bad. It's going to be more than a few years before, if ever, we visit again

Lovely welcome by the staff, a selection of food ordered by our family, lots of choice which was all piping hot and really delicious. Fantastic atmosphere, great band played. We will be returning as soon as we can.

Called last minute to see if a table for four was available for a Sunday carvery. The person who answered the phone did her best to arrange this for us. Staff very friendly from the lady at the bar, the man on the carvery and the girl clearing the table. We were asked several times if our meal was ok. The food was the best we had eaten in a pub for a long time. A great selection of vegetables and piping hot. Would definitely recommend coming here and we will be returning.

Delicious homemade food, with a good friendly service (waitressing by Melissa). We were not rushed and enjoyed our meal across a couple of hours. The lasagne, steak and jam sponge with custard was brilliant. Would definitely recommend.
