Highway Garden Centre in South Norfolk

Waited 35 mins for carvery people queuing around the restaurant next to people eating guy doing carvery looking very stressed need another person to help him , We were in a queue of 40 people !!! Never again

BE AWRE .. If I could leave no stars I would had jacket potato for lunch and it was NOT cooked properly told a member off staff who bought another jacket out guess what that was the same MANGER came out and said I quote itS the make of potato she must have thought I was stupid I've been cooking spuds for years .NO REFUND OFFERED

Need to sort out the queues for the carvery snaking though the restaurant, with being leaning on and on tables of other people eating. People sneezing over you, it’s very unpleasant and doesn’t create a very nice or relaxing atmosphere. The queue needs to be well away form those eating. Jacket potatoes were dry and need butter adding to them, slow weight for food and tables to be cleared.

I organised a coach trip for the North Walsham Dementia Support Groups CAMEO Cafe guests and volunteers to the Highway Garden Centre. We arrived at 12.30pm and made our way to the Restaurant for Afternoon Tea at 1pm. Head chef, Sarah Hedington had prepared an exclusive area for all 54 of us and arranged for Judith to serve us throughout our stay. The tables were well set out; the Afternoon Tea sandwiches, fruit scones (with butter, jam and cream) and cakes excellent. Judith and Sarah kept up a never ending supply of tea/coffee. Afterwards there was plenty of time for a look around the garden centre, which is wheelchair accessible throughout, before we left at 3.30pm. If you are thinking of organising a trip out to include a meal/afternoon tea I highly recommend a visit to the Highway Garden Centre. Visited Highways for a look round and lunch. There were 5 in our party and we all had an excellent time and good, value for money meals. Of particular note are the staff. I must have interacted withat least10 staff and every single one of them was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their job. I will definitely visit again.

Have been to the carvery before and it’s lovely but we did arrive quite late in the day this time and it was awful. Everything was dried out, veg was grey. The beef was so dry I couldn’t swallow it. I’m a firm believer that a carvery should be as good quality at the beginning of the day as it is at the end. This time it was not a great experience and would actually put me off returning

Is there anyone there…? Who is in charge? Tuesday 6th August 2024 - our first and last visit. Chose this place as it was said to be ‚dog friendly‘. Actually one is restricted to a small area indoors with 6 tables. You are ‚not allowed‘ to go up to the counter to order food with your dog, a staff member informed me. ‚I‘ll come back and take your order‘….this never happened. I’d still be sitting there now if Imhof not given up! Dogs removed from premises, we ordered and paid for 2 paninis.at the counter. Again, they never came - we were sitting outside - waited about 1/2 hour. We had to go and remonstrate. The panini arrived. Hardly any filling, dry as dust and so not worth the price charged. A vast shopping area, wanting to be anything to any one….from food and drink to stationery, kitchenalia, shoes, clothes, patio and garden furniture, gardening supplies, ceramics, cosmetics, the list goes on. Not a shopper in sight, it’s like the Marie Celeste. Pal t outside over priced. The few staff in evidence had that disaffected, demoralised and resentful look of those who are badly managed, if at all. The ‚plant information‘ hut? Unstaffed and abandoned, of course. A depressing experience all round.

Waited over an hour for scampi and a sandwich. When spoken to staff, was met with a poor excuse. Very poor customer service, Will not be returning.

So once again another fab breakfast at Highways, always a great place to have a catch up with a friend over breakfast. All the staff are so friendly and warm (Cheryl) and it's a lovely place to spend time. Once you are full, you can then have a wander around at all the other things they have to offer, of which there are many. Just love this place!

Bitterly disappointed. One friend asked for lasagna, jacket potato and soup none of which were available. She could have had soup but no sandwiches left as advertised and was told they couldn’t make one. Myself and another friend opted for the carvery. Are you ready for a long saga? At the till no one tried to take our order. A girl was standing right by the till but was intent on folding cardboard boxes and putting them into a trolley. Completely ignored us although we were only about 2 foot away. Another girl by the window saw us but carried on wiping a huge pile of trays. Finally another girl appeared and took our order. Moved to the carvery. No one serving. Waited waited…….. finally young boy came and said sorry to keep us waiting but he would be back soon. People behind us were getting impatient as were we. Boy went into kitchen came out carrying a jug which he delivered to a table. Yes we thought our turn but no he disappeared into the kitchen again. Came outwith tray of roast potatoes. Emptied it onto serving tray and took the one he was holding back into the kitchen! Finally came and served us. However it doesn’t end there. No parsnips and told none left at all. No stuffing and no gravy. Looked to ask boy for more gravy but he had disappeared again. Finally appeared and said he would get more gravy. Back into the kitchen he went. After waiting for several more minutes we gave up as the food we had on our plates was now cold. Asked for a refund but were told we could have a free drink which in actual fact would have cost us the price of the carvery we hadn’t had. Refused this and then had to wait for several more minutes before someone came from the kitchen. Most apologetic and we finally got our money back. Took our trolley loaded with purchases to the Way Out till. You guessed it no one serving. Person was restocking shelves She saw us but again we were ignored. Waited waited and finally gave up. So a sale was lost and we didn’t have the items we wanted. Appalling customer service or I should say complete lack of it. We visit regularly and have never before had treatment like this or reason to complain. Don’t know what has happened for this downfall in such a short space of time since our last visit. Very disappointing.

This is are fav garden centre, we love coming here for cup of tea & cake. We have gone to see Santa in his grotto and it was magical Going again this year :)

Wanted somewhere local for a breakfast, but we made the wrong choice..Egg shell in the fried egg, I had to look hard to select clean cutlery, if I hadn't ordered first we would have walked away...but the service was good and the food was a decent quality but its not cheap.. Went to the coffee shop on Sunday afternoon. Service was poor. It took 24 minutes to get 2 pieces of cake and 2 hot drinks. Many tables not cleared and a lot of rubbish on the floor. Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing.

The cafe is ok I won't say outstanding very slow service seemed to be only one person behind counter working rest of staff seemed lost in what to do . may have been just an off day food was ok for price

We enjoyed a nice meal in the Highway restaurant. The carvery was good and well cooked. Well done to everyone involved in making our meal nice. Of course we will return soon.

Hello Zoe, I would like to say a huge thank you to you and your lovely staff for the afternoon tea we had today. It was a special day as it was my other halfs 66th birthday, she had a lovely time. Slow, slow, slow. Waited well over half an hour for breakfast to arrive. Tea was weak and had no flavour.

Have been to Highway cafe loads of times but after today will not go again, the breakfast quality is really poor now and certainly not value for money, I ordered toast and persevere only to be given one small slice of toast which I then discovered cost £1.20 and the preserve cost another £1.20, the tea was very weak and we were given the milk in a teapot as apparently they had no clean milk jugs although it was only 10.30, we had to wait ages for our order and the girl on the till was absolutely useless and we had to repeat the order three times as she kept getting it wrong, terrible.

Slow service, after waiting 20 minutes for a coffee was given a cold Latte, pointed it out and was asked if I wanted a hot one. Better but not much. Indifferent and uncaring service. Dirty spoons and gritty water glasses. While waiting one of staff serving coffee was diverted to the carvery to give refunds, they had run out at 13 50 on a Sunday. Says it all. Real shame as garden furniture etc all good prices.

15 of us went for Afternoon Tea and snacks as last year great service great food and a very good atmosphere and the Store looks and runs very well

We have just left the restaurant where we had the the lasagna, we were very disappointed as it was awful all pasta and no mince. We both paid £10.99 and couldn't eat it. I certainly won't be returning there for food again

After buying ticket for a carvery meal, I had to wait until a member of staff had twice called for someone to serve me. The roast meat was placed on a stone cold plate, which I asked to be changed. There were just a few scraps of roast potatoes and cauliflower and I had to ask for hot vegetables to be made available from the hot cabinet. There were no knives in the cutlery tray and by the time they arrived, there were no forks. Yet another establishment let down by lack of staff and poor staff training.

We attended last Saturday for the Coronation afternoon tea and it was fantastic! The tables were set up with a coronation theme and looked outstanding. The food was beautifully presented and was very tasty you could see a lot of care had gone into the afternoon tea. We was looked after by a young lady who from the moment we entered the restaurant was very smiley and welcoming, she was very efficient in offering us more tea and making sure we had everything we needed, we ended up staying a little bit longer than expected as we got chatting to the lady all though she was busy with the other afternoon tea she still made the effort to have a conversation with us which you don’t tend to get anymore in other places. It was our first time visiting and we can definitely say we will be attending more because of the lovely experience we had.

Well, lived in Norfolk all my life and visited for the first time.. brilliant food , friendly service, lovely setting , great service.reasonable prices. Who coukd ask for more ?? We will be back..
